AI Technical Summary
Turbines, particularly gas turbines, experience increased oxidation due to higher operating temperatures, affecting both the hot gas duct and adjacent areas, necessitating improved sealing solutions to mitigate oxidation.
A corrugated seal with openings is designed to be inserted into a guide vane carrier, allowing airflow to maintain cooling even when partially covered, thereby reducing oxidation exposure.
The corrugated seal with openings effectively reduces oxidation by ensuring continuous airflow, thus protecting turbine components from excessive heat exposure.

Abstract
Description
[0001] 2024PF00602 Foreign version

[0003] Description
[0004] Corrugated seal with opening and arrangement with corrugated seal
[0005] The invention relates to a corrugated seal with at least one opening and the arrangement in a guide vane in a guide vane carrier with the corrugated seal.
[0006] To increase efficiency, turbines like gas turbines are always operated at higher temperatures. However, these higher temperatures also mean that oxidation can occur more frequently. This affects both the hot gas duct itself and the directly adjacent areas further out.
[0007] EP 3,755,886 Bl discloses a corrugated seal for use in gas turbines.
[0008] It is therefore the purpose of the invention to solve the problem mentioned above.
[0009] The problem is solved by a corrugated seal according to claim 1 and an arrangement according to claim 8.
[0010] The dependent claims list further advantageous measures which can be combined arbitrarily to achieve further advantages.
[0011] They show
[0012] Figures 1 to 4 show a ribbed seal.
[0013] Figure 5 shows the arrangement of a guide loop in a guide loop carrier.
[0014] Figure 6 shows the arrangement of a corrugated seal according to Figure 5. Figure 7 shows another view according to Figure 6.
[0015] The figures and description represent only exemplary embodiments of the invention. 2024PF00602 Foreign version
[0016] 2
[0017] Figure 1 shows an example of a corrugated seal 20 in cross-section.
[0018] The corrugated seal 20 is preferably elongated and has two planar surfaces 19.
[0019] The corrugated design of the corrugated seal 20 is not shown in detail. It can be shaped in various ways, such as waves or other configurations.
[0020] The corrugated seal 20 has at least one opening 21 perpendicular to its thickness or on its surface 19.
[0021] Figure 2 shows an exemplary top view of the ribbed seal 20 according to Figure 1.
[0022] The corrugated seal 20 has at least one opening 21. The opening 21 is preferably circular.
[0023] Figure 3 shows a corrugated seal 20' in which at least one opening 21' is oval. The longer axis of the oval is transverse to the longitudinal direction of the corrugated seal 20.
[0024] Other shapes for the openings 21, 21' are possible. Possible shapes include other forms with or without corners: square, rectangular, diamond-shaped, etc.
[0025] Figure 4 shows a further embodiment of a corrugated seal 20'' with two openings 21, 22.
[0026] The openings 21, 22 are arranged slightly offset from each other along a longitudinal direction (vertical from top to bottom in the drawing) of the corrugated seal 20''.
[0027] The holes can have a circular shape (Fig. 2) and / or an oval shape (Fig. 3), i.e. the same or different shapes.
[0028] Figure 5 shows a section of a suspension 6 of a guide vane 4 in the hot gas path of a turbine 1.
[0029] The guide vane 4 with its blade head with its outer radial end 5 is in a guide vane carrier 7 in a 2024PF00602 foreign version
[0030] 3 corresponding recesses 8 arranged and, if necessary, additionally secured (not shown in detail).
[0031] Viewed in the direction of flow 9 of the hot gas inside the turbine 1, there may be an exposed area 10 (5-15% of the sealing plate area) outside the recess 8, which is exposed to increased temperatures and thus to increased oxidation.
[0032] These need to be cooled.
[0033] Figure 6 schematically indicates where the corrugated seal 20, 20', 20'' is arranged or inserted, namely in a slot 13 (Fig. 7) on the end face 11 of the suspension 6 of the guide vane 4.
[0034] Figure 7 schematically shows a top view of a corrugated seal 20, 20', 20'', preferably the 3 examples from Figures 2 to 4 together.
[0035] The seal 20, 20', 20'' is inserted into a slot 13 with at least one opening 21.
[0036] In this case, the opening 21 (located below; Fig. 2) is circular.
[0037] Since the corrugated seal 20' ' can move back and forth in the slot 13, the upper arrangement in Figure 7 with the embodiment according to Figure 4 always ensures that air can flow through the corrugated seal 20' ', even if an opening 21 is partially covered.
[0038] The same applies if there is only one opening 21, in which case the diameter is / is designed to be correspondingly large or oval.
[0039] Or the opening 21' is oval in shape (Figure 7 in the middle, corresponding to Figure 3) and can then also be covered in the middle without losing its function.
