Jar products have a significantly higher viscosity and a higher yield point than tube or bottle products. Unlike these, they are not meant to flow out of the jar simply due to gravity. For this purpose, thickening agents are added to the preparations (usually emulsions). In the past, these were often acrylate-based polymers (e.g., polyacrylamides, polyacrylates, acrylate copolymers), the use of which is now to be avoided due to their synthetic origin and the associated slow biodegradability.
