Abstract
A frequency synthesizer system (200) and method therein for operating the frequency synthesizer system (200). The frequency synthesizer system (200) comprises a phase locked loop, PLL (210) comprising a phase detector (211), a loop filter (212), a digitally controlled oscillator, DCO (213) and a frequency divider (214). The frequency synthesizer system (200) comprises further comprises a reference oscillator (220) and a control circuitry (230). The control circuitry (230) is configured to apply a tuning signal to the reference oscillator (220), based on a frequency tuning characteristic of the reference oscillator (220) obtained through measurements using the PLL (210), to tune an oscillating frequency of the reference oscillator (220) enabling the frequency divider (214) to operate with an integer division ratio or a fractional division ratio having the fractional part outside exclusion zones (R31, R32), and the PLL (210) tuning the DCO (213) towards a target operating frequency. The exclusion zones (R31, R32) are determined based on a tuning range of the reference oscillator (220).
