This invention is based upon the discovery that rubbery polymers having a high vinyl content and a low degree of branching can be synthesized with an initiator system that is comprised of (a) a lithium initiator selected from the group consisting of allylic lithium compounds and benzylic lithium compounds, (b) a Group I metal alkoxide, and (c) a polar modifier; wherein the molar ratio of the Group I metal alkoxide to the polar modifier is within the range of about 0.1:1 to about 10:1; and wherein the molar ratio of the Group I metal alkoxide to the lithium initiator is within the range of about 0.01:1 to about 20:1. These high vinyl polymers offer reduced levels of hysteresis and better functionalization efficiency.

Method for separating biological material from a fluid using magnetic particles

Magnetic particles are prepared containing a magnetic core coated with a glass layer having a substantially pore-free glass surface or having pores with a diameter of less than 10 nm. The particles are used for separating biological material such as nucleic acids. A preferred process of preparing the particles is by forming a mixture of magnetic cores with a sol formed from an alcohol and a metal alkoxide, spray-drying the mixture to coat the cores with a layer of gelled sol, and heating the coated cores to obtain the magnetic glass particles. Preferably, the particles have an average particle size of less than 100 μm. The magnetic core may be a composite material containing a mica core and magnetite particles immobilized on the mica core, and the glass layer may contain boron oxide. Magnetic core materials include magnetite (Fe3O4) and Fe2O3.

The present invention relates generally to a method of synthesising a metal alkoxide polymer involving the following general steps: 1. acidolysis; 2. condensation; and 3. subsequent processing. The acidolysis step is preferably performed without addition of water, in the presence of a mutual solvent. The acidolysis step involves acidolysis of a metal alkoxide compound with an acid to produce an intermediate acidolysed solution. The condensation step involves condensation of the intermediate solution in the presence of a metal alkoxide compound to produce the metal alkoxide polymer.

The invention discloses a tubular and tube-in-tube structure organic oxide and a preparation method thereof. The organic oxide has a caliber from 100 nanometers to 1 micron and a tube wall of a porous structure. The preparation method utilizes various organic salts and comprises the following steps: using metal alkoxide and nitrate as raw materials; fully mixing salt solutions with an alcoholic solution of PVP to be electrically spun into fibers under a high-pressure electrostatic field; and treating the fibers at a high temperature to form the tubular and tube-in-tube structure organic oxide. The method is used to prepare the tubular and tube-in-tube structure organic oxide comprising Ti, Si, Zr, V, In, Sn, B, Fe and Co. The invention adopts a traditional single-tube nozzle electrostatic spinning technology to prepare a tubular and tube-in-tube nanometer material, is different from a traditional hydrothermal method, an electrochemic method and a coaxial nozzle electric spinning method for preparing organic tubes, only needs the simplest electric spinning process and the roasting process, has convenient and rapid operation, simple method, novel product structure and strong universality and is suitable for mass production.
