Description
5 Lid with integrated seal and retention mechanism for sustainability and convenience. Technical Field
[001] This utility model falls within the field of packaging technology, more specifically in the segment of closure devices for containers. Its scope covers functional improvements for caps made of any injectable materials, applicable to containers of various shapes and purposes. State of the art
[002] Currently, most packaging, notably beverage bottles and other products, uses screw-on or snap-on caps with a tamper-evident seal that breaks and detaches completely from the cap body after the first opening. Although this configuration is effective in indicating tamper-evidentness, it frequently results in the loss or individual disposal of the cap, contributing to environmental pollution, especially in aquatic ecosystems.
[003] Furthermore, the loss of the cap can compromise the hygiene of the remaining product and the user's convenience. Recent efforts in the industry have sought solutions for tethered caps, but many existing proposals still face challenges in terms of manufacturing simplicity, cost-effectiveness, ergonomic functionality, robustness of the connecting links, and consumer acceptance. Brief description of the drawings
[004] The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, given by way of illustrative and non-limiting example, in which: Figure 1 represents a top perspective view of the closed lid; Figure 2 shows a front view highlighting the break line of the seal; Figure 3 illustrates a flat top view; Figure 4 shows a bottom view revealing the sealing ring; Figure 5 shows a cross-section of the lid attached to the neck; Figure 6 shows Petition 870260050373, dated 05 / 26 / 2026, page 4 / 10 / 5 enlarged detail of the shear bridges and flexible arms; Figure 7 represents the cover in the open position and attached by the links; Figure 8 illustrates a detail of the articulation and the stop lug; and Figure 9 shows the cover in the maximum open position (parked) on the neck. Detailed description of the utility model
[005] The proposed utility model, as illustrated in Figure 1, refers to an injected cap, preferably made of food-grade thermoplastic polymers, such as Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Polypropylene (PP), or other polymeric materials suitable for the specific application. Manufacturing by high-precision injection molding ensures dimensional conformity, repeatability, and surface finish, essential characteristics for patent registration. Compatibility with Bottleneck Standards and Diverse Applications
[006] This utility model is inherently adaptable to a wide range of bottleneck patterns existing in the market, allowing its application in various industries and products. This is made possible by the ability to adjust the dimensions and thread profile (visible in Figure 5) or the cap fitting system for compatibility with conventional and non-conventional standards.
[007] Regarding conventional standards, the following stand out: PCO 1881 (28mm Short Thread), widely used in water and soft drinks; PCO 1810 (28mm Long Thread) for carbonated beverages; PCO 30 / 25 (30mm) common in mineral water; the Bericap 38mm standard for juices and dairy products; and nozzles of 48mm or larger for gallons and oils.
[008] As for non-conventional patterns, the system can be adapted to lids of varying designs, including flip-top lids, lids with integrated dispensers, lids for carton packaging, plastic or glass jars. The adaptability lies in the ability to integrate the connecting arms and the stop lug into the design of any type of injection-molded closure. Petition 870260050373, dated 05 / 26 / 2026, page 5 / 10 / 5 Sealing Mechanism
[009] The lid incorporates an internal sealing ring, detailed in Figure 4, designed to create an airtight seal against the container's sealing surface, preventing leaks and the ingress of contaminants. The ring's geometry ensures uniform and effective compression under the specified closing torque or pressure. Security and Tamper-Evident Seal with Integrated Clip Function
[010] The main difference and the core of the present utility model lies in the functional integration of the security seal with an ingenious retention mechanism. The seal is initially attached to the base of the cap by shear bridges or plastic micro-links, as detailed in Figure 6, meticulously designed to break with a predetermined torque.
[011] When the seal breaks, it detaches from the main body of the cap at its predefined rupture area. However, the seal remains connected to the base of the cap by two or more articulated flexible arms, shown in Figure 7. These arms are formed by the controlled division of the seal ring itself into segments that function as connecting links, ensuring that the cap remains physically attached to the seal ring fastened to the neck.
[012] The robustness of these connecting links is a critical and balanced attribute: they are designed to be strong enough to withstand the repeated opening and closing of the lid without fatigue fracture. Simultaneously, their strength is optimized so as not to hinder the maneuverability of the lid during use or transmit unwanted stresses to the neck of the container.
[013] In addition to retention, the lid has an internal or lateral ridge (a stop or halt), illustrated in Figure 8, precisely molded. This ridge interacts with the neck of the container or with the sealing ring itself in the maximum open position, allowing the lid to be parked in an ergonomic and non-obstructive position (see Figure 9), preventing it from falling backward during consumption. Petition 870260050373, dated 05 / 26 / 2026, page 6 / 10 / 5 Advantages of the utility model
[014] The advantages of this utility model are multifaceted and detailed below.
[015] Enhanced Convenience: The model eliminates the worry of losing the cap, and the stop system optimizes the user experience.
[016] Reduced Environmental Impact: The system reduces plastic pollution by keeping the lid attached to the container, facilitating the joint recycling of the components.
[017] Security: The model maintains the primary function of the security seal, offering unmistakable visual indication of tampering.
[018] Versatility: The solution is adaptable to numerous bottleneck patterns and industry sectors, including beverages, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, among others.
[019] Industrial Optimization: The design is focused on the efficiency and scalability of injection molding production, without compromising functional integrity. Testing and validation
[020] Validation of the utility model will involve rigorous testing to verify its characteristics. Seal breakage torque and opening and closing torque analyses will be performed to ensure usability.
[021] Seal integrity tests will be conducted, including internal pressure and vacuum tests. Additionally, fatigue cycle tests of the clamp will be performed to evaluate the durability of the articulated arms, as well as impact, vibration and chemical compatibility tests with the packaged product. Conclusion
[022] This utility model for a lid with integrated seal and post-opening retention represents a significant advance in packaging technology. Petition 870260050373, dated 05 / 26 / 2026, page 7 / 10 / 5
[023] By combining safety, convenience and sustainability, the innovation offers a practical and universally applicable solution, meeting the requirements of novelty, industrial application and functional improvement needed for registration. Petition 870260050373, dated 05 / 26 / 2026, page 8 / 10
