Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a packaging for containers for the safe transport of goods. More specifically, the present invention relates to a packaging for pallets equipped with an alarm system capable of reporting and locating possible intrusion attempts, even repeated intrusion attempts, that may occur during the transport of goods. Background Art
[0002] It is well known that various products may be transported for a short or long time before reaching the end user's point of use or retail store. Items placed in special containers or pallets may be transported on often long, repetitive routes through multiple delivery stages. During these stages, the items cannot be continuously inspected.
[0003] In general, the items that logistics companies transport on a daily basis are subject to constant theft attempts during their movement through the transport chain before reaching their final destination. These theft attempts concern in particular the fashion, pharmaceutical and technology sectors, and in general any other type of medium to high value items.
[0004] Theft not only results in financial losses due to removal, but also has a huge impact from a business standpoint, from the perspective of the party entrusting the transport, the end retailer has to face the problem of no product available, while from the perspective of the carrier, its customer trust will be eroded.
[0005] In addition to the difficulty for logistics operators to continuously protect the safety of the goods entrusted to them, they also have difficulty in identifying the link in the transport chain where the pallets have been tampered with and, if necessary, in trying to recover the stolen items in a timely manner and thus find the perpetrators.
[0006] In the prior art, there are many solutions for securing transported items, the most effective of which include packaging used to wrap pallets. The packaging is a bag made of raffia fibers woven in flexible polypropylene (PLP) to which an outer polyethylene (PE) film is applied, forming a single layer.
[0007] This bag consists of two distinct parts, the hood and the base, which are joined by two zippers arranged on their periphery. The raffia material in the bag makes the packaging resistant to mechanical pulling, just as PE prevents liquid penetration. In addition, a numbered security seal can be applied on the zipper pull to ensure effective closure of the pallet. At the production stage, the bag is provided in panels to be assembled by sewing by the overlock method, thus forming the two parts (hood and base), and then the two zippers are applied around the entire periphery of the two parts.
[0008] This packaging can only be checked visually for attempts at intrusion. In fact, once applied to the pallet, the packaging completely encloses it and the only way to gain access to the contents is to damage the packaging or to damage the numbered seal that closes the zipper, thus making the intrusion attempt visible.
[0009] In the common case of transport involving multiple delivery lanes, in order for this solution to be effective, i.e. to allow detection of intrusion attempts during the passage of the transport chain, a visual inspection by an operator is required to ensure and determine its integrity. This step requires the operator to carefully inspect each part of the pallet cover.
[0010] However, in some cases, integrity defects of packaging go unreported due to disguise of the packaging, negligence of inspectors, or, in some cases, collusion to conceal tampering. This makes it impossible to trace back to the point or passage in the logistics chain where an unauthorized attempt to access the contents of the pallet may have occurred, which is only determined when it is finally opened. In addition, it is not possible to find out whether additional intrusions have been carried out since the first one, as the packaging is permanently damaged after the first intrusion.
[0011] It should also be noted that the known solutions have low heat reflection technical parameters and low UV shielding. Furthermore, the thin thickness of the covering material is not suitable for cushioning external impacts, and the seams used to join the modules forming the base and the hood may sometimes not be effective in keeping out water from the outside, which is necessary in the case where the pallet is exposed to heavy and continuous rain.
[0012] US2019 / 0269268A1 describes a system for protecting the safety of a package including a tear-resistant bag. In some embodiments, the system is provided with an alarm system, wherein the bag includes a first conductive sheet and a second conductive sheet, and a layer of tear-resistant material is placed between the first conductive sheet and the second conductive sheet. When a conductive tool such as a blade or a screwdriver is used to tear the bag, electrical contact is generated between the conductive sheets, causing the alarm system to emit an audible signal through a speaker.
[0013] To ensure the safety of the contents, the system also envisages the use of anchoring means to attach the bag to a base plate, which is usually a rigid panel formed of wood, stone or concrete, and is therefore suitable for the transport of packages of significantly reduced size. Given its structure and composition, it is not possible to extend its application also to containers of the size of pallets for the transport of goods.
[0014] WO2008 / 043955A2 describes a protective sheet, typically for vehicles, formed of a multilayer material comprising two layers of conductive material separated by an insulating layer. Such a sheet is made for covering a vehicle such as a car and also comprises means for detecting a tear by means of conductive means connected to an alarm control system for emitting a warning signal.
[0015] The bag according to US2019 / 0269268A1 and the sheet described in WO2008 / 043955A2 are solutions capable of detecting a tear by activating an alarm signal, which is usually an acoustic signal, but is not well suited to detecting more than one tear. More specifically, the multilayer structure of WO2008 / 043955A2 does not guarantee sufficient adhesion between the layers, and once torn, the sheet is actually peeled off, with the risk that the conductive layers are damaged and come into contact with each other.
[0016] Furthermore, neither solution is suitable for adequately protecting containers of goods such as pallets, since the containers are formed by a single continuous layer which does not allow the insertion or complete envelopment of the contents to be transported of such dimensions inside them.
[0017] In summary, the disadvantages of protective packaging applied to article containers such as pallets are obvious, they are not particularly suitable for preventing and detecting intrusion attempts, unauthorized entry attempts, impacts and generally possible damage to the transported articles. In addition, known systems are not able to adequately detect and signal multiple intrusion attempts, i.e. intrusion attempts occurring on the same package during the same transport phase. Summary of the invention
[0018] It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a transport pallet package which overcomes the disadvantages of the prior art.
[0019] More specifically, it is an object of the present invention to provide an alarming package for a container of articles, such as a pallet, which is capable of detecting multiple intrusion attempts as well as possible tampering.
[0020] Another object of the invention is to provide a packaging for a pallet that allows detecting, also in real time, where and when such an intrusion attempt occurs, in order to identify the responsible party in the transport chain.
[0021] Yet another object is to provide a packaging for pallets which has improved characteristics with respect to known products, is also improved in terms of impact and weather protection, and is easy to apply.
[0022] These and other objects are achieved by a warning package for pallets according to the invention having the features set out in the attached independent claim 1 .
[0023] Advantageous embodiments of the invention are disclosed by the dependent claims.
[0024] In essence, the invention relates to a closable alarm packaging suitable for a container of goods such as a pallet, the packaging being made of at least two parts, the edges of which are provided with closure elements and which completely wrap around and seal the container of goods once in contact, wherein the parts are formed in multiple layers, including at least a first conductive layer, a second conductive layer and an electrically insulating layer placed between the two conductive layers, the electrically insulating layer having such a composition that it can recover its thickness after being squeezed, wherein in addition to each of the parts, a support is used which comprises at least two conductive attachments, at least one of the conductive attachments being connected to a first of the conductive layers and at least one of the conductive attachments being connected to a second of the conductive layers; An electronic device with a low voltage power supply and at least two electrodes is applied to each of the components of the enclosed package with the aid of the support, at least one of the electrodes being in contact with at least one of the conductive attachments of the support so as to generate a continuous low voltage on the first conductive layer of each component, and at least one of the electrodes being in contact with at least one of the conductive attachments of the support so as to generate a continuous low voltage on the second conductive layer of each component; the electronic device also serves as a transmitter for transmitting signals to a receiver and is capable of recording voltage changes within the multilayer component in response to an impact or tear in the enclosed package or in response to an unauthorized removal of the electronic device from its support, and notifying the receiver of the event. [0040] A preferred embodiment of the closable alarm package according to the present invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
[0041] The warning packaging is characterized by the multi-layer composition of the components constituting its surface, these components in particular having at least a first conductive layer and a second conductive layer, the first conductive layer and the second conductive layer being separated by a layer of insulating material interposed between them. More specifically, these components can be considered as a series of connected plastic and metal films, wherein the conductive layers remain insulated from each other.
[0042] Advantageously, the conductive layer is an aluminum film and the non-conductive layer is a polymer film made of EPE (polyethylene foam). In a preferred embodiment, these components are made of material layers placed in the following order, starting from the outermost layer: PET (polyethylene terephthalate) - aluminum - woven raffia - EPE - woven raffia - aluminum - PET. With such an arrangement, the aluminum conductive layers remain insulated from each other.
[0043] A further feature of the package is the fact that, in use, a low voltage is constantly applied to the conductive layers. If these conductive layers come into contact with each other, also by means of a traversal of a cutting object such as a blade, the voltage changes which are immediately recorded by the electronic equipment associated with the package.
[0044] The electronic device is an integral part of the alarm package and can also be used as a transmitter, capable of transmitting information about the status of various components of the package to a receiving platform or generally to a user remotely connected to the electronic device. The electronic device also contains a power source designed to apply a low voltage to the conductive layer by means of a suitable conductive attachment. Typically, the low voltage source is a lithium battery.
[0045] Once the package 1 has been applied to the container to be protected, the system can signal multiple intrusion attempts or accidental damages in real time, and repeatedly in time, so that the subject of the transmission chain responsible for the event can also be identified in real time. In fact, intrusion attempts due to tearing and multiple accidents involving violent impacts in particular will lead to the extrusion of multilayer sections, thus generating contact points between the conductive layers. More specifically, in the case of a tear in the package caused by an object provided with a metal blade, the blade itself will establish a connection between the conductive layers without them actually being in contact.
[0046] The insulating material placed between the two conductive layers plays an important role in the functioning of the alarm package, notably in ensuring the possibility of tracing further intrusion or tampering events after a first one. In fact, the insulating material is preferably made of a material that returns to its original thickness after being squeezed, thus avoiding that continuous contact is maintained between the two conductive layers after a first intrusion attempt, thus avoiding that the signal is disturbed relative to the standard signal.
[0047] A preferred embodiment of the alarm package is shown in the accompanying drawings. Figure 1 In the embodiment, an alarm package, indicated as a whole by the reference numeral 1, is shown, which is applied to a pallet in the shape of a parallelepiped, to which an electronic device 50 is associated. In this embodiment, the package 1 consists of two separate parts 10 and 20, which can be connected to each other directly on the container to be protected by means of suitable connection and closing means. Usually, the parts 10 and 20 have elements of a zipper or zipper 30 on their edges to make it easy for authorized users to access and check the contents.
[0048] Although an embodiment formed from two separable parts will be described below, the package may also be made from more than two distinct parts connected by a zipper to allow access to the container or pallet.
[0049] Conveniently, the two components 10 and 20 present similar Figure 2 The "C"-shaped configuration schematically shown in Figure 1 is particularly suitable for application on pallets of cubic or parallelepiped shape. The figure shows a first part 10 formed by a top or upper surface 12 and two side surfaces 14, 16, which are placed on two opposite edges thereof in a manner substantially perpendicular to the top surface. The second part 20 is constructed in a manner completely similar to the first C-shaped part 10, with surfaces defining only a bottom surface 22 and two side surfaces 24, 26 by convention.
[0050] Obviously, in such an embodiment, the top 10 and the base 20 have the same shape; similarly, the sides 14, 16 and the sides 24, 26 also have the same shape, which can be similar to the shape of the bottom 10 and the top 20 in the case of a cubic packaging.
[0051] The closure of the package 1 is thus achieved by coupling the parts 10 and 20 by means of the aforementioned closing element or zipper 30 so as to form a box-like body, so that the free edge of one part coincides with the free edge of the other part. Preferably, the two zippers constituting the zipper fastener 30 terminate at the same position of the package.
[0052] The structure made in this way, besides being easy to apply and suitable for access to the internal contents, makes it possible to reduce to a minimum the use of welds or seams that could be placed in the contact layer of conductive material, while keeping the number of parts that compose it limited.
[0053] It is necessary to avoid contact between the conductive layers during the sewing or bonding of the zipper 30 along all the edges of the parts 10 and 20, preferably using zippers coated with rubber and therefore non-conductive, their supports inserted in the thickness of the insulating material placed at the two layers of conductive material.
[0054] The electronic device 50 is applied to the package 1 by means of one or more supports 40, 40', which are applied to, for example, Figures 5 to 8 The single support 40 comprises, besides the function of mechanical coupling between the electronic device 50 and the package 1 , four conductive attachments 41 , 42 , 43 , 44 for tensioning the conductive layers of said components 10 and 20 .
[0055] More specifically, after the support 50 is applied to the multilayer component, two attachments 41 and 42 are connected to the first of the two conductive layers and two other attachments 43 and 44 are connected to the second of the two conductive layers in order to tension the respective component of the package. From what has just been said, it is clear that each individual component requires its own support for tensioning.
[0056] In this preferred embodiment, two supports 40, 40' are applied to the components 10 and 20, respectively. The parallelepiped configuration of the package 1 allows the two supports 40, 40' to be Figure 5 , i.e., close to the edges of two faces perpendicular to each other, such as faces 16 and 26 (see also Figure 2 ). More specifically, the support 40, 40' consists essentially of a plate 45 made of non-conductive material applied to these faces 16 and 26 at the end of the travel of the zipper 30. In this way, once the two parts 10 and 20 have been coupled together and the package 1 has been closed, the two plates are positioned perpendicular to each other and close to the end of the travel of the zipper 30, where the two sliders / slides 31 and 32 are located in the closed state of the package 1.
[0057] Each plate 45 of the support 40, 40' preferably has two vertical edges 46 and 48 and a lower edge 47, which define a seat open at the top. The vertical edges 46 and 48 advantageously have slide rails, allowing the sliding insertion of electronic devices that will engage with the conductive links 41, 42, 43, 44 and are able to generate a low voltage on the multilayer component, record the changes in the voltage signal and transmit information to a receiver.
[0058] The support 40 just described represents a preferred solution from the point of view of safety and signal quality. However, in certain cases, it is possible to adopt a support comprising only two attachments, each of which is able to tension one of the two conductive layers.
[0059] From a structural point of view, a configuration such as that shown in the various figures has considerable advantages, in that a single electronic device 50 of an angular shape can be applied to a package 1 formed by two parts 10 and 20, and the appearance of the electronic device 50 is presented as Figure 3 Schematic diagram of the front view and Figure 4 The angular electronic device 50 has such a configuration that it can simultaneously power and communicate with two components 10 and 20, which would need to be powered by two corresponding power supplies if separated from each other.
[0060] The electronic device 50 is in an "L" shape, having a first section 56 and a second section 58 that are identical to each other, the inner portions of the first section and the second section, that is, the portions directly applied to the package 1, are Fig.10 and 11. Each of the sections 56, 58 has internally a seat 60 delimited by two vertical edges 62, 64 and an upper edge 63. Four fixed electrodes 51, 52, 53, 54 are formed in these seats 60, each of these electrodes being connected to a low voltage source. Thus, when the electronic device 50 is applied to the package, the electrodes are suitable for contacting the conductive attachments 41, 42, 43, 44 of the supports 40, 40' so as to generate a low voltage in the multilayer components 10 and 20.
[0061] The vertical edges 62 and 64 of the seat 60 are shaped to allow sliding along the tracks formed on the vertical edges 46 and 48 of the supports 40, 40'. Thus, the electronic device 50 is hooked onto the package 1 by simply sliding it onto the supports 40, 40' from above. Fig. 9 A bottom view of the device 50 is shown when it is applied to a package 1 , wherein the lower edge 47 of the support 40 , 40 ′ is visible.
[0062] The solution adopted, in which the fixed electrodes 51, 52, 53, 54 are means for applying a low voltage to the package 1, also allows the device 50 to register when it has been removed from its support, without having to apply an additional sensor for this purpose, thus sending a signal when the operation seems unauthorized. Moreover, conveniently, the electronic device 50 is applied to the position / point at the end of the travel of the zipper 30, the sliders 31, 32 of which are then placed in a special locking housing and covered by the same device 50 once mounted on the package 1. In this case, the zipper 30 cannot be opened without removing the electronic device 50; therefore, the unauthorized removal of the electronic device will be immediately reported. Optionally, a numbered security seal can also be used.
[0063] An additional level of security can be achieved by providing at least one printed circuit to be inserted in a non-visible part of the packaging, independently powered and provided with a system for communicating with the device 50 . Fig.12 A pair of printed circuits 70, 70' are shown which have not yet been applied to a package. The printed circuits 70, 70' are provided with respective conductor cables 71, 71' which are bonded together.
[0064] In a preferred manner, in use, the printed circuit 70, 70' is arranged at the plate 45 of the support 40, 40' and optionally integrated therein, wherein the conductor cables 71, 71' protrude towards the edge of the part of the package where the closing element is arranged, such as Fig.13 Once the contents to be transported have been placed in the package and the components joined together by means of the zipper 30, one or more cables 71, 71' may be passed through the eyelets of the zipper pull to ensure a further level of control.
[0065] Fig.14 An alarm package formed of two parts and provided with two printed circuits placed at the plates 40, 40' from which two connection cables 71, 71' protrude. In this figure, the cable 71 passes through the eye of the slider 32 and the cable 71' passes through the eye of the other slider 31, thus establishing electrical continuity. Thus, it is not possible to open the zipper 30 without disconnecting the cables. If this operation is not authorized, the electronic device is immediately signaled that the connection has been interrupted.
[0066] A similar level of safety can be achieved by providing a single cable 71 from the circuit 70 which passes through the eyelets of both sliders and plugs into a socket provided in the other circuit 70', thereby ensuring continuity of the connection before the sliders are moved.
[0067] Alternatively, only one printed circuit 70 may be provided, and the cable 71 thereof will be inserted into a socket provided in the same printed circuit 70 after passing through the holes of the pull heads 31 and 32 .
[0068] In all three of the described approaches, the cables 71 , 71 ′ passing through the eyelets of the sliders 31 , 32 ensure that the package cannot be opened without interrupting the electrical continuity with the electronic equipment which will be alerted in the event of an unauthorized opening.
[0069] In summary, the alarm packaging according to the invention is formed by one or more multilayer components comprising two conductive layers separated from each other, which are directly connected to an electronic device that applies a low voltage and detects its changes. The electronic device is preferably provided with a GSM transmitter for transmitting the changes in the voltage signal (and therefore possible damage to the packaging) to a data collection platform, which, thanks to the use of a GPS system, is able to obtain other information in real time, such as the time and precise location of the damage. The transmission of the signal of the intrusion attempt and / or damage can occur multiple times, because the inserted insulating layer recovers its thickness after the first squeezing, thereby keeping the conductive layers separated and thus recovering to supply a standard signal. If access to the contents is attempted again, a new alarm signal will notify the user of a further tear in the packaging.
[0070] This aspect is a great advantage for users, who are also able to more easily identify damaged parts of the packaging with the help of a function in the electronics that distinguishes at which point in the various components the alarm was triggered, making it easier and faster to detect the affected part by visual inspection.
[0071] Additionally, a variety of security measures can be applied to each electronic device to easily prevent direct tampering, including:
[0072] - already mentioned, signalling the unauthorised removal of an electronic device by sending an alarm message;
[0073] - Anti-interference equipment, which allows to emit a warning message before using the radio wave blocking device; the electronic device will continue to record various environmental data and intrusion events in any case;
[0074] - A defense system against magnets or electric shocks, which includes special internal resistors that enable electronic devices to prevent deliberate attempts at electric shocks aimed at destroying their CPUs before magnetic shielding is possible, thus signaling problems to the user in real time;
[0075] - Finally, in the rare event that the electronics are successfully shielded, removed from their holder on the package and their battery pack destroyed, an emergency battery is installed directly behind the CPU that will send a final alarm signal to the platform before the system shuts down.
[0076] The alarm package according to the present invention also allows for the detection of multiple information and updates on the status of the transported item and has several advantageous applications which will be summarized here.
[0077] Signal notification of successful electronic device engagement
[0078] Once the protective part of the packaging has been placed around the container of the item to be transported and the electronic device has been correctly applied to the corresponding support, the electronic device will enter "transport mode" and signal this mode to the user through a message confirming successful engagement. In the absence of this message, the corresponding transport phase will be considered not to have started.
[0079] Real-time route and default route settings
[0080] During land transport, the GPS will track all roads to the destination and it is also possible to select a mandatory transport route, where stops and any unplanned route changes will be recorded and reported to prevent dangerous situations for the safety of the item. Speed can also be monitored thanks to the use of gyroscopes and accelerometers.
[0081] Unauthorized Move mode
[0082] If for some reason it is decided not to move and / or the packaging applied to the item container is placed in a precise location where it does not need to be moved (for example a secure area), then once the "unauthorized movement" mode is activated, it will signal any movement from the specified point after obtaining the geo-coordinates, thereby alerting the controlling user with the help of a real-time message.
[0083] Automatically shut down in an airplane
[0084] Designed primarily for air transport, the alarm package identifies the airport area with the help of geographical coordinates and will automatically activate flight mode at the beginning of take-off, with the relevant activation message, so that the travel can be carried out in accordance with the regulations.
[0085] Working without signal
[0086] If communication with the platform is temporarily interrupted, for example in the absence of a signal due to sea transport, tunnel crossing, underground passage, etc., the electronics will continue to record environmental data (temperature, data from gyroscope and altimeter, acceleration, pressure, external and internal temperature, light inside the package) and send a complete transport report, including possible intrusion / theft attempts, as soon as the connection is reestablished.
[0087] Mechanical and physical characteristics
[0088] The warning package according to the invention is also arranged to signal in real time by means of warning messages the maximum / minimum reaching of certain settable parameters, such as internal and external temperature and gyro speed.
[0089] The special plastic and metal multilayers of packaging 1 have been tested by measuring the following parameters (ASTM E903-12 and ASTM C518-17):
[0090] -92.29% solar reflectivity,
[0091] -0.029W / (m*K) thermal conductivity and
[0092] -0.352(m 2 *K) / W thermal resistance.
[0093] The strong and flexible multilayer composition has excellent mechanical tensile strength and impact resistance.
[0094] With reference to the specific embodiment shown in the drawings, the two C-shaped members 10, 20 and the applied rubber zipper 30 make the alarm package 1 liquid-proof and allow for a simple and quick assembly operation.
[0095] A smart packaging suitable for application on article containers and the like has just been described, which is capable of sending an alarm signal whenever it experiences a potentially destructive event. The invention has been described with particular reference to a preferred embodiment of the invention, which consists of two C-shaped components that can be connected together by means of a zipper. However, it is obvious that the invention can also be applied to packaging with components of different shapes or more than two components, it being understood that these components must have a multilayer structure and that there must be at least one electronic device suitable for generating a low voltage and transmitting information. For example, the illustrated embodiment has the special feature of providing a single electronic device capable of powering two components; however, in a less convenient manner, two separate electronic devices can be applied to the two components.
[0096] Thus, the present invention is not limited to the particular embodiments described hereinabove and shown in the drawings, but many details may be modified therein within the ability of a person skilled in the art without thereby departing from the scope of the present invention as defined in the appended claims.
