AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Conventional square wave voltammetry (SWV) measurements are susceptible to interference from AC power lines, especially in unshielded environments such as heavy industry or field measurement applications, which limits the range of SWV settings and affects measurement accuracy.

Method used

The implementation of repeated cycles square wave voltammetry (RCSWV) involves replacing a single cycle of conventional SWV voltage excitation with a shorter cycle of an integer number of repetitions, ensuring that the total time of these repetitive cycles equals the period of the original single cycle, ideally aligned with the power line period. This approach allows for higher modulation frequencies while minimizing AC line interference.

Benefits of technology

RCSWV effectively reduces the impact of AC power line interference, enabling the use of higher modulation frequencies and improving the robustness and accuracy of SWV measurements in challenging environments, while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards regarding AC line resistance.

Abstract

One embodiment provides a method of measuring components of an aqueous sample using square wave voltammetry, comprising: introducing the aqueous sample into a chamber of a square wave voltammetry apparatus; applying a step of a stimulus voltage comprising a staircase voltage to the aqueous sample, each step of the staircase voltage defining a group and having two or more repeating square wave modulations of equal voltage amplitude; measuring the resulting composite current output from the stimulus voltage by a measurement comprising square wave voltammetry; and averaging the composite current output over at least two or more cycles of each of the groups.
