Description

Container unit and specimen cooling device including same

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a container unit and a specimen cooling device including the same.

[0002] Typically, hospital pathology departments and clinical pathology laboratories prepare tissue slides for tissue observation. Tissue slides are prepared by embedding tissue samples in wax, such as paraffin, to create a specimen block. This block is then sliced thinly (i.e., sectioned) into sections. These sections are then placed on slides and the wax is melted.

[0003] A specimen block may refer to a wax block in which a tissue specimen is embedded in a wax-like medium. For example, a wax-like medium such as paraffin or celloidin may be injected into the interior of a cassette containing a tissue specimen and hardened to prepare a wax block. During the manufacture of the wax block, the wax block and cassette may be combined, and thus, the specimen block may also include a cassette equipped with a wax block.

[0004] Meanwhile, during tissue slide preparation, a cooling process may be required before sectioning the specimen block. Typically, a cold plate is used for this cooling process. However, using a cold plate to cool the specimen block can result in the specimen block becoming excessively rigid or parts of the specimen block sticking to the cold plate. This can result in damage to the specimen block or the production of poor-quality sections during sectioning.

[0005] For example, Korean Patent Publication No. 10-2199430 (Prior Document 1) discloses a tissue cooling device. However, the tissue cooling device described in Prior Document 1 does not clearly address the above-mentioned problem.

[0035] FIG. 10 is a block diagram according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0036] Hereinafter, the present disclosure will be described in detail with reference to FIGS. 1 to 10. However, these are merely exemplary and the present disclosure is not limited to the specific embodiments described as examples.

[0037] FIG. 1 is a drawing showing a container unit according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0038] Referring to FIG. 1, a specimen cooling device (10) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure may include a container unit (100). The container unit (100) may contain a fluid (e.g., water, etc.). That is, the container unit (100) may be configured to contain a fluid. When the container unit (100) is cooled, the temperature of a specimen contained in the fluid may be maintained low. For example, the specimen may include a specimen block in which tissue is embedded.

[0039] A container unit (100) may include a container bottom (110). The container bottom (110) may form the bottom of the container unit (100). The upper face of the container bottom (110) may be flat.

[0040] The container bottom (110) may have a plate or board shape. For example, the container bottom (110) may have a square or rectangular shape.

[0041] The container unit (100) may include a container wall (120). The container wall (120) may be connected, coupled, or fastened to the container bottom (110). For example, the container wall (120) may form a shape extending upward from the container bottom (110). The container wall (120) may be formed, for example, to extend upward from the perimeter of the container bottom (110).

[0042] The container wall (120) may include a front container wall (121). The front container wall (121) may form the front face of the container unit (100). The front container wall (121) may extend upward from the front edge of the container bottom (110).

[0043] The container wall (120) may include a rear container wall (122). The rear container wall (122) may form the rear face of the container unit (100). The rear container wall (122) may extend upward from the rear edge of the container bottom (110).

[0044] The container wall (120) may include a left container wall (123). The left container wall (123) may form the left face of the container unit (100). The left container wall (123) may extend upward from the left edge of the container bottom (110). The left container wall (123) may extend backward from the left edge of the front container wall (121) and connect to the left edge of the rear container wall (122).

[0045] The container wall (120) may include a right container wall (124). The right container wall (124) may form the right face of the container unit (100). The right container wall (124) may extend upward from the right edge of the container bottom (110). The right container wall (124) may extend backward from the right edge of the front container wall (121) and connect to the right edge of the rear container wall (122).

[0046] The front container wall (121) and the rear container wall (122) are positioned opposite each other and can face each other. The left container wall (123) and the right container wall (124) are positioned opposite each other and can face each other.

[0047] Fig. 2 is a drawing showing a container unit composed of a first container part and a second container part. Fig. 3 is a drawing showing a cross-section of the first container part shown in Fig. 2 taken along line A1-A2.

[0048] Referring to FIGS. 2 and 3, the container unit (100) may include a first container part (100a) and a second container part (100b). The first container part (100a) and the second container part (100b) may be coupled or connected to each other.

[0049] The first container part (100a) may include a front container wall (121), a first left container wall (123a), a first right container wall (124a), a first container bottom (110a), and a front container coupler (150a). The first container part (100a) may be opened upward and backward.

[0050] The second container part (100b) may include a rear container wall (122), a second left container wall (123b), a second right container wall (124b), and a second container bottom (110b). The second container part (100b) may be opened upward and forward.

[0051] The first container bottom (110a) may form a step. For example, a step may be formed at the rear end of the first container bottom (110a). For example, the thickness of the rear end of the first container bottom (110a) may be smaller than the thickness of the front end of the first container bottom (110a).

[0052] Each of the first left container wall (123a) and the first right container wall (124a) may form a step. For example, a step may be formed at the rear end of the first left container wall (123a), and a step may be formed at the rear end of the first right container wall (124a).

[0053] For example, the thickness of the rear end of the first left container wall (123a) may be smaller than the thickness of the front end of the first left container wall (123a). For example, the thickness of the rear end of the first right container wall (124a) may be smaller than the thickness of the front end of the first right container wall (124a).

[0054] For example, the container bottom coupler (151a) may be coupled to a step formed in the first container bottom (110a). An attractive force may be formed between the container bottom coupler (151a) and the second container bottom (110b). For example, the attractive force formed between the container bottom coupler (151a) and the second container bottom (110b) may include a magnetic force, etc.

[0055] For example, the left container wall coupler (153a) may be coupled to a step formed at the rear end of the first left container wall (123a). An attractive force may be formed between the left container wall coupler (153a) and the second left container wall (123b). For example, the attractive force formed between the left container wall coupler (153a) and the second left container wall (123b) may be a magnetic force.

[0056] For example, the right container wall coupler (154a) may be coupled to a step formed at the rear end of the first right container wall (124a). An attractive force may be formed between the right container wall coupler (154a) and the second right container wall (124b). For example, the attractive force formed between the right container wall coupler (154a) and the second right container wall (124b) may include a magnetic force, etc.

[0057] The front container coupler (150a) may include or mean at least one of a container bottom coupler (150a), a left container wall coupler (153a), and a right container wall coupler (154a).

[0058] The first container bottom (110a) and the second container bottom (110b) can be coupled. For example, the first container bottom (110a) and the second container bottom (110b) can be brought into close contact with each other by the attractive force formed between the container bottom coupler (151a) and the second container bottom (110b).

[0059] The first left container wall (123a) and the second left container wall (123b) can be coupled. For example, the first left container wall (123a) and the second left container wall (123b) can be brought into close contact with each other by the attractive force formed between the left container wall coupler (153a) and the second left container wall (123b).

[0060] The first right container wall (124a) and the second right container wall (124b) can be coupled. For example, the first right container wall (124a) and the second right container wall (124b) can be brought into close contact with each other by the attractive force formed between the right container wall coupler (154a) and the second right container wall (124b).

[0061] Through the above process, the first container part (100a) and the second container part (100b) can be tightly coupled to each other. Therefore, even if fluid is contained in the container unit (100) while the first container part (100a) and the second container part (100b) are coupled to each other, leakage can be prevented.

[0062] The front container coupler (150a) may include a permanent magnet. The rear end of the second container part (100b) may be formed of a material including a paramagnetic or ferromagnetic substance.

[0063] For another example, the front container coupler (150a) may be formed of a material including a paramagnetic or ferromagnetic material. The rear end of the second container part (100b) may include a permanent magnet.

[0064] Fig. 4 is a drawing showing the first container part and the second container part shown in Fig. 2 combined with each other. Fig. 5 is a drawing showing a cross-section of the container unit shown in Fig. 4 taken along line B1-B2. Fig. 6 is a drawing showing a cross-section of the container unit shown in Fig. 4 taken along line C1-C2.

[0065] Referring to FIGS. 4 to 6, the container unit (100) may include a first container part (100a) and a second container part (100b). The first container part (100a) and the second container part (100b) may be coupled to each other. For example, the rear end of the first container part (100a) and the front end of the second container part (100b) may be coupled to each other.

[0066] For example, the front end of the second container part (100b) can surround the rear end of the first container part (100a). For example, the inner surface of the front end of the second container part (100b) can be in contact with the outer surface of the rear end of the first container part (100a).

[0067] For example, the rear end of the first container bottom (110a) and the front end of the second container bottom (110b) may overlap. For example, the outer surface of the rear end of the first container bottom (110a) may be in contact with the inner surface of the front end of the second container bottom (110b).

[0068] For example, the rear end of the first left container wall (123a) and the front end of the second left container wall (123b) may overlap. For example, the outer surface of the rear end of the first left container wall (123a) may be in contact with the inner surface of the front end of the second left container wall (123b).

[0069] For example, the rear end of the first right container wall (124a) and the front end of the second right container wall (124b) may overlap. For example, the outer surface of the rear end of the first right container wall (124a) may be in contact with the inner surface of the front end of the second right container wall (124b).

[0070] For example, the first container part (100a) and the second container part (100b) can move relative to each other. For example, the first container part (100a) can be movably coupled to the second container part (100b).

[0071] In other words, the first container part (100a) can move relative to the second container part (100b). Accordingly, the longitudinal length of the container unit (100) can be adjusted. That is, the amount of fluid that the container unit (100) can contain can be changed.

[0072] Fig. 7 is a drawing showing a container unit having a container partition. Fig. 8 is a drawing showing a cross-section of the container unit shown in Fig. 7 taken along line D1-D2.

[0073] Referring to FIGS. 7 and 8, the container wall (120) may include or mean at least one of a front container wall (121), a rear container wall (122), a left container wall (123), and a right container wall (124).

[0074] For example, a container wall (120) may mean a front container wall (121), a left container wall (123), a rear container wall (122), and a right container wall (124) that are connected in series.

[0075] A container unit (100) may include a container partition (130). The container partition (130) may be surrounded by a container wall (120). The container partition (130) may form a shape extending upward from the container bottom (110).

[0076] A container partition (130) can divide a space formed in a container unit (100). For example, the container partition (130) can divide a space formed by a container wall (120) and a container bottom (110).

[0077] For example, a container partition (130) may divide a container unit (100) into a first container part (100a) and a second container part (100b). The first container part (100a) and the second container part (100b) may be physically separated by the container partition (130).

[0078] The first container part (100a) may include a first container bottom (110a). The second container part (100b) may include a second container bottom (110b). The container bottoms (110a, 110b) may be formed of a material including metal, plastic, or the like.

[0079] For example, the first container bottom (110a) may include a first metal, a first plastic, etc., and the second container bottom (110b) may include a second metal, a second plastic, etc. The thermal conductivity of the first metal may be different from the thermal conductivity of the second metal. The thermal conductivity of the first plastic may be different from the thermal conductivity of the second plastic.

[0080] For example, the thermal conductivity of the first container bottom (110a) may be higher than the thermal conductivity of the second container bottom (110b). In this case, under the same conditions, the cooling rate of the first container part (100a) may be higher than the cooling rate of the second container part (100b). In other words, the first container part (100a) may be cooled faster than the second container part (100b).

[0081] Fig. 9 is a drawing showing a container unit illustrated in Fig. 8 with a container leg and a cooling unit added.

[0082] Referring to FIG. 9, the container unit (100) may include a container leg (140). The container leg (140) may support a first container part (100a) and a second container part (100b).

[0083] The container leg (140) may have a shape extending downward from at least one of the first container part (100a) and the second container part (100b). The container leg (140) may be positioned on a table (TBL).

[0084] The length of the container leg (140) can be adjusted. For example, the control unit (400, see FIG. 10) can control the length of the container leg (140). Depending on the length of the container leg (140), the distance between the container bottom (110a, 110b, see FIG. 8) and the table (TBL) can vary.

[0085] The specimen cooling device (10) may include a cooling unit (200). The cooling unit (200) may include a cooling body (210). The cooling body (210) may be cooled. For example, the temperature of the cooling body (210) may be lower than room temperature.

[0086] For example, the temperature of the container unit (100) can be lowered by the cooling unit (200). As described above, the container unit (100) can accommodate a fluid. A specimen (e.g., a specimen block) can be accommodated in the container unit (100) together with the fluid, i.e., at least partially immersed in the fluid. The temperature of the fluid can be lowered by the cooling unit (200), and the specimen block can be cooled. Accordingly, the specimen block can be softened by the fluid, and a high-quality specimen section can be produced when the specimen block is sectioned.

[0087] The cooling body (210) may include a first cooling body (210a) and a second cooling body (210b). The first cooling body (210a) and the second cooling body (210b) may be spaced apart from each other.

[0088] The temperature of the first cooling body (210a) and the temperature of the second cooling body (210b) may be different. That is, the temperature of the first cooling body (210a) and the temperature of the second cooling body (210b) may be controlled to be the same or different. For example, the temperature of the first cooling body (210a) may be lower than the temperature of the second cooling body (210b).

[0089] The first cooling body (210a) may be positioned below the first container bottom (110a, see FIG. 8). The upper face of the first cooling body (210a) may face the lower surface of the first container bottom (110a, see FIG. 8).

[0090] The second cooling body (210b) may be positioned below the second container bottom (110b, see FIG. 8). The upper face of the second cooling body (210b) may face the lower surface of the second container bottom (110b, see FIG. 8).

[0091] The cooling unit (200) may include a cooling housing (220). The cooling housing (220) may support a cooling body (210). For example, the cooling body (210) may be coupled, connected, or mounted to the cooling housing (220).

[0092] The cooling unit (200) may include cooling legs (230). The cooling legs (230) may have a shape extending downward from the cooling housing (220). The cooling legs (230) may be provided in multiples. The cooling legs (230) may be positioned on the table (TBL).

[0093] The length of the cooling leg (230) can be adjusted. For example, the control unit (400, see FIG. 10) can control the length of the cooling leg (230). Depending on the length of the cooling leg (230), the distance between the cooling body (210) and the container bottom (110a, 110b, see FIG. 8) can vary.

[0094] For example, the cooling body (210) and the container bottom (110a, 110b, see FIG. 8) may be in contact with each other.

[0095] For example, the cooling body (210) and the container bottom (110a, 110b, see FIG. 8) may be spaced apart from each other to form a gap. In this case, the specimen block can be prevented from sticking to the cooling plate and being damaged, as in the past.

[0096] In one embodiment, the straight-line distance between the cooling body (210) and the container bottom (110a, 110b, see FIG. 8) can be adjusted to 0.5 to 5 mm, preferably 1 to 5 mm, and more preferably 1 to 3 mm. In this case, cooling efficiency can be maintained and damage to the specimen block can be prevented.

[0097] FIG. 10 is a block diagram according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0098] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 10, the specimen cooling device (10) may include an input unit (500). The input unit (500) may obtain input from a user or the like. The input obtained by the input unit (500) may be related to the operation of the specimen cooling device (10).
