AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Conventional fertilizers contaminate the environment, have low utilization efficiency, and disrupt nutrient balance, leading to excessive application, harmful microbial activity, and environmental degradation, while existing superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) with incorporated fertilizers suffer from impaired water absorption and impractical fertilizer:SAP ratios.

Method used

A foliar coating composition comprising a superabsorbent polymer nanostructure capable of swelling up to 2000 times its weight, releasing divalent micro- and macronutrients, and providing controlled water release for 50 days, with a biodegradable nanocomposite mixture containing 0.5-5% nanocomposite by weight, including biopolymers and biodegradable polymers, to enhance water retention and nutrient delivery.

Benefits of technology

The composition offers protection against temperature variations, ensures sustained nutrient release, improves biodegradability, and maintains water retention for prolonged periods, addressing environmental contamination and nutrient imbalance issues.

Abstract

The present application relates to an aqueous mixture comprising a superabsorbent-based nanocomposite for use as an agricultural foliar coating or foliar fertilizer, its production method and use. The nanocomposite comprises a polymer in which one or more water soluble and ionizable monomers are graft copolymerized onto one or more biopolymers and / or copolymerized with one or more biodegradable polymers; a combined amount of the one or more biopolymers and one or more biodegradable polymers is within the range between 5 % wt. and 50 % wt. on the basis of a dry weight of the nanocomposite; the aqueous mixture comprising the nanocomposite at an amount within the range between 0.5 % wt. and 5.0 % wt. on the basis of the total weight of the mixture.
