[0176] The mounting element 22 extends from the main element 20 transversely to the main element 20, such as extending at right angles to the main element 20. In the illustrated embodiment, the mounting element 22 defines a mounting hole 24 through which a fastener (such as a screw) can be inserted to mount the hanging article 14 on the raised structure.

[0177] The main element 20 has a main axis XX extending longitudinally. An elongated inner region 26 of the main element 20 extends along the main axis XX. The inner region 26 of the main element 20 is curved around the main axis XX.

[0178] The main element 20 has opposing elongated edge regions 28 extending along the inner region 26. Each of the opposing edge regions 28 of the main element 20 is folded up to form a hem 27, thereby providing a hem-folded edge region 28. The combination of the curved main element 20 and the hem-folded edge region 28 provides stability and strength to the hanging article 14.

[0179] The suspension article 14 defines a plurality of fixing openings in the form of fixing grooves 30, each of which extends over the inner region 26 of the main element 20. The fixing grooves 30 are arranged one after another along the inner region 26. The purpose of the fixing grooves 30 in the inner region 26 of the main element 20 is explained below.

[0180] refer to Figure 8 , Fig. 9 and Fig.10 , the support member 12 includes a substantially planar central member 32 having opposite end regions 34 and opposite side edges 36. Each end region 34 of the central member 32 defines a respective first aperture 38.

[0181] The first aperture 38 is in the form of a slot and can receive therethrough the primary element 20 of a respective one of the hanging articles 14, as described below.

[0182] The support member 12 also includes two opposing side members 40, each side member 40 extending from a respective one of the side edges 36. Each side member 40 has opposing end regions 44A, 44B and a free side edge 50.

[0183] The support member 12 may be manufactured by a metal forming process that involves bending the side members 40 relative to the center member 32 to form the edges 36 between the center member 32 and the side members 40. The side members 40 are bent relative to the center member 32 to a position where they extend at right angles to the center member 32.

[0184] Each end region 44 of the two side members 40 defines a corresponding second aperture 46 in the form of a slot. The second apertures 46 at the end region 44A of each side member 40 are arranged opposite and aligned with each other. Similarly, the second apertures 46 at the opposite end region 44B of each side member 40 are arranged opposite and aligned with each other.

[0185] Each side member 40 is integrally attached along a corresponding one of the side edges 36 of the central member 32. The opposite free side edges 50 of each side member 40 are deformed inwardly into fold-back moldings 52. The fold-back moldings 52 extend along the corresponding side edge 50 of each side member 40.

[0186] The side members 40 extend from the center member 32 in the same direction as each other, thereby forming a generally U-shaped component.

[0187] The hanging article 14 can be suspended from the support member 12 in a first orientation (e.g. Figure 1 , Figure 2 , Figure 4 , Figure 5 and Figure 8 ), wherein the central member 32 faces upward. In the first orientation of the support member 12, the hanging article 14 is received through the first aperture 38 in the central member 32 and secured to the central member 32 by the securing device 16, as explained below.

[0188] The suspended article 14 may be suspended from the support member 12 in a second orientation (e.g. Figure 3 and Fig. 9 ), wherein one of the side members 40 faces upward to support an item thereon. In the second orientation of the support member 12, the hanging article 14 is received by the second apertures 46 in the two side members 40 and secured to the support member 12 by the securing device 16, also as explained below.

[0189] refer to Figures 11 to 18 Each fixture 16 includes an attachment device in the form of a housing 54. The housing 54 of each fixture 16 is received in a respective one of the ends 18 of the support member 12. The housing 54 is received between the center member 32 and the return profile 52 of the side member 40, thereby attaching the fixture 16 to the support member 12.

[0190] Each housing 54 includes an elastically deformable detent formation 56 that is received in a receiving opening 58 defined in the end region 34 of the central member 32 (see FIG. Figure 8 ).

[0191] The housing 54 has an end edge provided with an outwardly extending stop member in the form of a flange 60. When the fixture 16 is received in the end of the support member 12, the flange 60 of each housing 54 engages the corresponding end 18 of the support member 12, thereby ensuring that the housing 54 is correctly inserted into the support member 12.

[0192] The housing 54 includes an outer wall arrangement 61 including a central wall portion 62 and two opposing side wall portions 63. The central wall portion 62 extends between the side wall portions 63. The central wall portion 62 defines an aperture 64. When the two housings 54 are inserted into the support member 12, the aperture 64 in the central wall portion 62 of each housing 54 is aligned with the first aperture 38 defined by the central member 32.

[0193] The housing 54 also includes a further wall member 65 opposite the central wall portion 62. The further wall member defines a further aperture 66 aligned with the aperture 64.

[0194] This alignment allows the primary element 20 of the hanging article 14 to be received through the hole 64 in the central wall portion 62 and through another hole 66 of the other wall member 65 when the support member 12 is in the first orientation and the primary element 20 is received in the first aperture 38 defined by the central member 32 .

[0195] The side wall portion 63 of each housing 54 defines a corresponding side aperture 70. The side apertures 70 in the side wall portions 63 are arranged to be opposite and aligned with each other.

[0196] When housing 54 is inserted into support member 12, side holes 70 in side wall portion 63 are arranged to align with second apertures 46 in both side members 40. This alignment allows primary element 20 of hanging article 14 to be received through side holes 70 in both side wall portions 63.

[0197] The fixing device 16 also includes an integrated latching element 74, which includes a first fixing member 68 and a second fixing member 72 in the form of a first latching member and a second latching member. The latching element 74 includes two second fixing members 72 arranged opposite each other, with the first fixing member 68 located between the two second fixing members 72. The first fixing member 68 is offset from the second fixing member 72 and is arranged at right angles to the second fixing member 72.

[0198] The second fixing members 72 are attached to the first fixing members 68 by attachment elements 73. Each of the second fixing members 72 is arranged at a right angle to the first fixing members 68. The second fixing members 72 extend from the attachment elements in the same direction as each other and as the first fixing members 68.

[0199] The latch element 74 is movable between a locked state, in which the first and second fixing members 68 and 72 are in their respective fixed positions, and an unlocked state, in which the first and second fixing members 68 and 72 are in their respective unfixed positions. The fixed and unfixed positions of the first and second fixing members 68 and 72 are discussed below.

[0200] The latch element 74 has an upper region 75 defining an aperture 77. The first securing member 68 extends into the aperture 77 at the center of the aperture 77. The latch element 74 also includes a release tab 76 connected to the first securing member 68 by a pair of connectors 79. The connectors 79 define the aperture 77 therebetween.

[0201] The release tab 76 is substantially planar and extends at right angles relative to the first and second securing members 68 and 72. Figure 1 and Figure 2 As shown in FIG. 1 , the visible latch element 74 is in a locked state.

[0202] The release tab 76 can be pressed toward the interior of the support member 12, i.e., Figure 1 and Figure 2 In the case of the latch element 74 visible in FIG. Figure 1 and Figure 3 The release tab 76 is pressed in the direction indicated by the arrow A in FIG. When the release tab 76 is pressed in this way, the latch element 74 moves to the unlocked state.

[0203] A spring-shaped push member 78 extends between the latch element 74 and the housing 54. The push member 78 pushes the first fixing member 68 and the second fixing member 72 to their respective fixing positions, i.e., Figure 1 and Figure 2 In the case of the latch element 74 visible in FIG. 1 , the push member 78 pushes the latch element 74 in the direction respectively opposite to the direction indicated by the arrow A into the locked state.

[0204] The housing 54 further comprises an inner device 80 comprising a first inner portion in the form of a guide portion 82 for guiding the latch element 74 between the securing position and the unsecuring position of the first and second securing members 68 and 72 .

[0205] The internal device 80 also includes a reaction portion 84 (see Fig.18 ) in the form of a second inner portion to provide a reaction force to the pushing member 78.

[0206] A gap 86 is defined between the guide portion 82 and the reaction portion 84. The gap 86 is aligned with the central aperture 64 in the central wall portion 62 and is also aligned with the side apertures 70 defined by the side wall portions 63. When the fixture 16 is attached to the support member 12 at each end 18 thereof, the gap 86 is aligned with the first aperture 38 in the central member 32 and with the second aperture 46 in the side member 40.

[0207] The guide portion 82 has a central surface 88 adjacent the central wall portion 62. The central surface 88 is spaced apart from the central wall portion 62 a distance sufficient to receive the central securing member 68 therebetween. The central aperture 64 defined by the central wall portion 62 extends through the central surface 88.

[0208] The guide portion 82 has a pair of opposing side surfaces 90 extending perpendicularly to the central surface 88. The side surfaces 90 are disposed adjacent to the corresponding side wall portions 63. Each side surface 90 is spaced apart from the side wall portion 63 by a distance sufficient to receive the corresponding second fixing member 72 between the side wall portion 63 and the adjacent side surface 90. Each side hole 70 defined by the side wall portion 63 extends on the corresponding side surface 90.

[0209] The latch element 74 is retained within the housing 54 in a position where the first securing member 68 is disposed between the central wall portion 62 and the first surface 88 and each second securing member 72 is disposed between the side wall portion 63 and a corresponding second surface 90 .

[0210] Each side surface 90 also includes a protruding catch 92. When the latch element 74 is retained within the housing 54, the catch 92 engages the attachment member 73, thereby preventing the latch element 74 from being accidentally removed from the housing 54.

[0211] When the latch element 74 is in the locked state, the first securing member 68 and the second securing member 72 extend through the gap 86 and can be received in the selected securing slot 30 in the main element 20 of the hanging article 14. When the latch element 74 is in the unlocked state, the first securing member 68 and the second securing member 72 are retracted and do not extend through the gap 86.

[0212] When the support member 12 is in the first orientation (see Figure 1 and Figure 2 ), the main element 20 of the hanging article 14 can be received through the first aperture 38 and through the gap 86 between the guide portion 82 and the reaction portion 84. The latch element 74 of each fixing device 16 can be moved to a locked state so that the first fixing member 68 extends through a selected one of the fixing slots 30 in the main element 20. This fixes the support member 12 in its first orientation to the hanging article 14.

[0213] Alternatively, the support member 12 may be arranged in a second orientation (see Figure 3 ). The main element 20 of the hanging article 14 can be received through the second aperture 46 and through the gap 86. The latch element 74 can be moved to a locked state so that the opposing second securing member 72 extends through the selected two securing slots 30 in the main element 20. This secures the support member 12 to the hanging article 14 in its second orientation.

[0214] The reaction portion 84 defines a recess 94 facing the release tab 76. The push member 78 is located in the recess 94 and extends from the recess to engage the release tab 76, thereby locking the latch element 74 in the position in which the latch element 74 is engaged. Figure 1 and Figure 3 Push it in the direction opposite to the direction indicated by the arrow A to lock it.

[0215] To install the suspension assembly 10, the fixture 16 is inserted into the end of the support member 12. Each suspension article 14 is mounted on the raised structure by passing a fastener, such as a screw, through the mounting hole 24 into the raised structure.

[0216] The support member 12 may be Figure 1 The user then pushes the release tab 76 of each fixing device 16 toward the interior of the support member 12 to push the latch element 74 to the unlocked state.

[0217] Pushing the latch element 74 in this manner moves the first fixing member 68 and the second fixing member 72 to their respective unfixed positions. The main element 20 of the hanging article 14 can then be inserted through the first aperture 38 in the central member 32 and through the central hole 64 in the central reinforcement portion 62 of the fixing device 16.

[0218] The position of the support member 12 along the hanging article 14 can be adjusted. When the desired position of the support member 12 is reached, the user releases the release tab 76 so that the latch element 74 is pushed by the corresponding push member 78 to its locked state.

[0219] The pushing of the latch element 74 by the pushing member 78 will move the first fixing member 68 and the second fixing member 72 to their respective fixing positions. The first fixing member 68 moves through the fixing slot 30 in the main element 20 of the hanging product 14, thereby fixing the support member 12 to the hanging product 14.

[0220] Alternatively, the support member 12 may be Figure 2The second orientation arrangement shown in . Then, the release tabs 76 of the two fixing devices 16 are pressed inwardly by the user. As a result, the latch element 74 moves to the unlocked state, thereby moving the two second fixing members 72 to their unlocked positions.

[0221] The main element 20 of the hanging article 14 can then be inserted through the two opposing second apertures 46 at each end of the two side members 40 and through the side holes 70 in the side wall portions 63 of the fixture 16. The support member 12 can be positioned along the main element 20 of the hanging article 14 to the desired location.

[0222] The user may then release the release tab 76 so that the push member 78 moves the latch elements 74 to their locked positions, thereby moving the two second securing members 72 of each latch element 74 to their respective securing positions.

[0223] When so moved, the second securing member 72 extends through the securing slot 30 in the primary element 20 of the hanging article 14 , thereby securing the support member 12 to the hanging article 14 .

[0224] Thus, a suspension assembly 10 is described wherein a support member 12 may be suspended by a suspension article 14 in a first orientation or a second orientation.

[0225] In the first orientation, the primary element 20 of the hanging article 14 extends through an aperture in the central member 32. In the second orientation, the primary element 20 of the hanging article 14 extends through apertures in both side members 40.

[0226] The above-described embodiment provides the advantage that a single securing device 16 secures the hanging article 14 to the support member 12 in either the first orientation or the second orientation.

[0227] Various modifications may be made without departing from the scope of the invention.

[0228] Fig.19 and Fig. 20 A modified fixture is shown, generally indicated at 116. The fixture 116 is substantially identical to the fixture 16 and includes all of the features of the fixture 16. Fig.19 and Fig. 20 The positions of the features of the fixture 116 can be seen in the figure, which features are used to Figures 11 to 18 Corresponding features shown in FIG. 1 are denoted by the same reference numerals.

[0229] Fixture 116 may be used in place of Figures 1 to 5 The fixing device 16 in the suspension assembly 10 is shown in FIG.

[0230] The fixture 116 differs from the fixture 16 in that the fixture 116 includes a generally U-shaped reinforcement member 118 extending around the housing 54. The reinforcement member 118 includes an elongated central reinforcement portion 120 extending through the central wall portion 62 and two opposing elongated side reinforcement portions 122 extending from opposite ends of the central reinforcement portion through the side wall portions 63.

[0231] The reinforcement member 118 is arranged on the outer wall device 61 in alignment with the gap 86 between the guide portion 82 and the reaction portion 84 .

[0232] The central wall portion 62 defines an elongated central aperture 124 that passes through the gap 86. The central reinforcement portion 120 of the reinforcement member 118 is received in the central aperture 124. Each side wall portion 63 defines a respective elongated side aperture 126 that passes through the gap 86. A respective one of the side reinforcement portions 122 is received in each side aperture 126.

[0233] The central reinforcing portion 120 defines an entry slot 128 for receiving the primary element 20 of the hanging article 14 through the entry slot 128 when the support member 12 is in the first orientation (see Figure 1 and Figure 2 Each side reinforcing portion 122 defines a slot 130 for receiving a primary element 20 of a hanging article 14 therethrough when the support member 12 is in the second orientation (see Figure 3 ).

[0234] In the embodiments described herein, the reinforcement member 118 provides the advantage that it helps prevent the first and second securing members 68 and 72 from being pulled through the center member 32 or the side members 40 when a load is applied to the support member 12 .

[0235] Figure 21 to Figure 23 A modification is shown in , which includes another suspension assembly 210, which includes an elongated support member 212, two elongated suspension articles 14, and two fixing devices 216.

[0236] Figure 21 to Figure 23 The hanging product 14 shown in FIG. Figure 6 and Figure 7 The hanging article 14 shown in FIG. 1 is the same as that shown in FIG. 1 and has the same features. These features are used in conjunction with Figure 6 and Figure 7 Corresponding features are denoted by the same reference numerals.

[0237] The support member 212 includes an elongated substantially planar central member 216 and opposing elongated substantially planar side members 218 extending downwardly from the central member 216 .

[0238] The support member 212 defines two apertures in the form of slots 220 in the central member 216. A spaced region 217 of the support member 212 extends between the slots 220. A respective end region 222 extends from each slot 220 to support an article in the form of a cable tray 225, such as Fig.23 as shown in .

[0239] Each slot 220 is capable of receiving a corresponding one of the hanging articles 14 therethrough. The support member 212 has a longitudinal main axis YY. Each slot 220 extends parallel to the longitudinal main axis YY (see Fig. 22 ).

[0240] Two fixtures 215 are mounted on the support member 212 below the slots 220 so that each slot 220 is aligned with a corresponding one of the fixtures 215 .

[0241] refer to Fig. 22 , each fixing device 215 includes a fixing member 230 in the form of a latching member to engage the hanging article 14 and fix the hanging article 14 to the support member 212.

[0242] Each fixing arrangement 215 further includes a mounting assembly 232 for mounting the fixing arrangement 215 on the support member 212. The mounting assembly 232 includes a retaining member 234 for retaining the fixing member 230. The fixing arrangement 215 further includes a cover member 240 for covering the retaining member 234.

[0243] The mounting assembly 232 also includes two elongated fasteners 236 to fasten the fixture 215 to the support member 212. The fasteners 236 are in the form of metal fasteners, such as bolts or rivets. The fasteners 236 fasten the cover member 240 to the support member 212. The fasteners 236 also fasten the retaining member 234 to the support member 212.

[0244] The retaining component 234 includes two fastening moldings 238 through which the fasteners 236 extend to fasten the retaining component 234 to the support member 212 .

[0245] The cover member 240 includes a lower portion 242 which defines a further slot 244 through which the main part 20 of the hanging article 14 can extend.

[0246] The cover member 240 includes a positioning molding portion 246 for positioning the cover member 240 above the holding part 234. The positioning molding portion 246 includes a rear positioning molding portion 248 extending upward and at the rear of the lower portion 242.

[0247] The locating molding 246 also includes a pair of front locating moldings 250 extending upward at the front corners of the lower portion 242. The fastener 236 extends through the locating apertures 252 defined in the front locating moldings 248 and the rear locating moldings 250 of the cover member 240 to fasten the cover member 240 through the retaining member 234.

[0248] The fixing member 230 is slidably movable between a fixing position and an unfixing position.

[0249] In the secured position, the securing member 230 engages the hanging article 14 via receipt through a selected one of the securing slots 30 in the primary element 20. When so received, the support member 212 is secured to the hanging article 14 by the securing member 230 at the desired location of the support member 212 along the hanging article 14.

[0250] The fixing member 230 includes a load-bearing portion 254 and an insert portion 256 on the load-bearing portion 254. The load-bearing portion 254 defines a central opening 258 into which the insert portion 256 extends.

[0251] When the securing member 230 is in the unsecured position, the central opening 258 of each securing device 215 is aligned with the slot 220 defined by the support member 212 , thereby allowing the suspension member 14 to be inserted through the slot 220 and through the securing member 30 .

[0252] The insert portion 256 may be inserted through a selected securing slot 30 in the suspension member 14 to secure the suspension member 14 to the support member 212 .

[0253] Each fixing device 215 further comprises two elastic urging members 260 in the form of compression springs for urging the fixing member 30 to the fixing position.

[0254] The securing member 230 also includes a release portion 262 to allow a user to move the securing member 230 to an unsecured position. The release portion 262 is attached to the load-bearing portion 254 and extends transversely thereto.

[0255] The support member 212 includes an access formation 263 to allow a user to access the release portion 262. The access formation 263 is an opening defined in one of the side members 218.

[0256] The release portion 262 constitutes a button, and when the button is pressed, the fixing member 230 is removed from the fixing groove 30, thereby moving the fixing member 230 to the non-fixed position. This allows the support member 212 to be removed from the hanging product 14 or repositioned along the hanging product 14.

[0257] Each securing device 215 further includes a locking member 278 located on the retaining component 234 to lock the securing member 230 in a secured position.

[0258] The support member 212 includes installation indicators in the form of corresponding notches 280 defined adjacent each slot 220. The user provides the support member 212 to the ceiling prior to installing the suspension assembly 210. The user can then mark the ceiling through the notches to identify the exact locations to drill the fixing holes.

[0259] refer to Figures 24 to 31 , a suspension assembly 10 is shown having a second type of suspension article. Figures 24 to 31 In the drawings, each suspended article is generally indicated by 314.

[0260] Figures 24 to 31 The suspension assembly 10 shown in FIG. 1 includes Figures 1 to 20 Many features of the suspension assembly 10 shown in FIG. Figures 24 to 31 Chinese Figures 1 to 20 Corresponding features in the drawings are denoted by the same reference numerals.

[0261] The inner region 26 of the hanging article 314 is curved in the same manner as the inner region 26 of the hanging article 14. The hanging article 314 differs from the hanging article 14 in that the hanging article 314 has a generally U-shaped end profile and includes opposite elongated flanges 316 instead of the hems at the edge regions 28. A respective elongated flange 316 extends along each edge region 28 of the inner region 26 of the hanging article 314. The flanges 316 strengthen the hanging article 314.

[0262] The flange 316 extends from the interior region 26 transversely to the interior region 26. The flange 316 extends from the interior region 26 in the same direction as the mounting element 22.

[0263] Each flange 316 defines a plurality of formations in the form of auxiliary slots 318 arranged successively along the length of the respective flange 316. Each auxiliary slot 318 is arranged adjacent to and aligned with a respective one of the fixing slots 30.

[0264] The central member 32 of the support member 12 defines two first apertures 320 at respective opposite end regions 34 of the support member 12. Each first aperture 320 is substantially U-shaped, such as Fig.26 As shown in , it corresponds to the shape of the end contour of the hanging product 314.

[0265] The hanging article 314 is inserted through the first aperture 320 into a fixing device 116 mounted at each end region 34 of the support member 12. The fixing device 116 comprises a respective latching element 74.

[0266] Fig. 27 4 shows the locked state of the latch element 74 and the fixed position of the first fixing member 68. Fig. 27 As shown in FIG. 1 , the first fixing member 68 is received in the interior region 26 of the hanging article 314 through a selected one of the fixing slots 30 , thereby fixing the support member 12 to the hanging article 314 .

[0267] Fig.28 1 and 2 show the unlocked state of the latch element 74 and the unlocked position of the first fixing member 68. Fig.28 As shown in FIG. 1 , the first fixing member 68 is not received in any of the fixing slots 30 , thereby allowing the support member 12 to be moved along the hanging article 314 , or removed from the hanging article 314 .

[0268] Figure 29 to Figure 31 The lower end region 20A of the hanging article 314 is shown deformed to a stowed state. Fig.29 In the embodiment, the free edge of each flange 316 is cut adjacent to one of the auxiliary slots 318. The cut is made adjacent to an auxiliary slot aligned with one of the fixing slots 30. The inner region 26 of the main element 20 can then be deformed into a stowed state by folding the inner region 26 around the fixing slot 30 adjacent to the auxiliary slot 318 where the flange 316 is cut.

[0269] Fig.31 The lower end regions of two suspended articles 314 are shown deformed into their stowed state and stowed within the support member 12 between the side members 40 .

[0270] Although not shown in the drawings, the hanging article 314 can be used with the support member 12 in the second orientation, such as Fig.12 Two second apertures having a U-shaped configuration similar to the first aperture 320 are defined in each side member 40 .
