An image feature extraction device and method

Abstract

This invention provides an image feature extraction apparatus and method. The apparatus includes a field-programmable gate array (FPGA), which comprises an image acquisition unit, multiple first-in-first-out (FIFO) queue units, and a feature extraction unit. The image acquisition unit acquires an image to be extracted, which includes multiple rows of data to be extracted. The image acquisition unit also inputs the multiple rows of data to be extracted line by line into the multiple FIFO queue units. The multiple FIFO queue units store the multiple rows of data to be extracted. The feature extraction unit performs feature extraction on the multiple rows of data to be extracted stored in the multiple FIFO queue units when all of the multiple FIFO queue units store data to be extracted, thereby obtaining image features. This invention can perform image feature extraction simultaneously with image acquisition, reducing the time consumption of image feature extraction and improving the efficiency of image feature extraction.
