Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] Various aspects of the invention relate generally to wireless communications and the like. Background Art
[0002] Wireless communication systems have evolved over several generations, including first generation analog wireless telephone service (1G), second generation (2G) digital wireless telephone service (including temporary 2.5G networks), third generation (3G) high speed data, Internet-enabled wireless services, and fourth generation (4G) services (e.g., Long Term Evolution (LTE), WiMax). There are many different types of wireless communication systems in use today, including cellular and personal communications service (PCS) systems. Examples of known cellular systems include the cellular analog Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS) and digital cellular systems based on code division multiple access (CDMA), frequency division multiple access (FDMA), time division multiple access (TDMA), global system for mobile access (GSM) variants of TDMA, and the like.
[0003] The fifth generation (5G) mobile standard calls for higher data speeds, a greater number of connections, and better coverage, among other improvements. According to the Next Generation Mobile Networks Alliance, the 5G standard (also called "new radio" or "NR") is designed to provide data rates of tens of megabits per second to each of tens of thousands of users and 1 gigabit per second to dozens of workers in an office building. To support large sensor deployments, hundreds of thousands of connections should be supported simultaneously. As a result, the spectral efficiency of 5G mobile communications should be significantly improved compared to the current 4G / LTE standards. In addition, signaling efficiency should be improved and latency should be significantly reduced compared to current standards. Summary of the invention
[0004] A user equipment (UE) generates a positioning state information (PSI) report that is sent to a network entity in a lower layer channel container, such as in a physical channel or a medium access control channel, to reduce latency. The PSI report may be generated based on multiple PSI report elements determined from uplink (UL), downlink (DL), or UL and DL positioning measurements performed by the UE. Each PSI report element includes information related to the positioning measurements performed by the UE. One or more PSI report elements may be compressed based on a compression configuration to reduce overhead. If, after compressing one or more PSI report elements, the size of the PSI report element is larger than the lower layer channel container, one or more PSI reports may be omitted from the PSI report. [0035] As used herein, the terms "user equipment" (UE) and "base station" are not specific to or limited to any particular radio access technology (RAT), unless otherwise specified. In general, a UE can be any wireless communication device used by a user to communicate over a wireless communication network (e.g., a mobile phone, a router, a tablet, a laptop, a tracking device, a wearable device (e.g., a smart watch, glasses, augmented reality (AR) / virtual reality (VR) headsets, etc.), a vehicle (e.g., a car, a motorcycle, a bicycle, etc.), an Internet of Things (IoT) device, etc.). A UE can be mobile or can be stationary (e.g., at certain times) and can communicate with a radio access network (RAN). As used herein, the term "UE" can be interchangeably referred to as an "access terminal" or "AT", "client device", "wireless device", "user equipment", "user terminal", "user station", "user terminal" or UT, "mobile terminal", "mobile station" or variants thereof. Typically, a UE can communicate with a core network through a RAN, and through the core network the UE can connect to an external network (e.g., the Internet) and other UEs. Of course, other mechanisms for connecting to the core network and / or the Internet are also possible for the UE, such as a wired access network, a wireless local area network (WLAN) network (eg, based on IEEE 802.11, etc.), and the like.
[0036] A base station may operate according to one of multiple RATs for communicating with a UE, depending on the network in which it is deployed, and may also be referred to as an access point (AP), a network node, a Node B, an evolved Node B (eNB), a new radio (NR) Node B (also referred to as a gNB or gNodeB), etc. In addition, in some systems, a base station may provide pure edge node signaling functions, while in other systems it may provide additional control and / or network management functions. The communication link through which a UE may send a signal to a base station is referred to as an uplink (UL) channel (e.g., a reverse traffic channel, a reverse control channel, an access channel, etc.). The communication link through which a base station may send a signal to a UE is referred to as a downlink (DL) or forward link channel (e.g., a paging channel, a control channel, a broadcast channel, a forward traffic channel, etc.). As used herein, the term traffic channel (TCH) may refer to a UL / reverse or DL / forward traffic channel.
[0037] The term "base station" may refer to a single physical transmission point or multiple physical transmission points that may or may not be co-located. For example, where the term "base station" refers to a single physical transmission point, the physical transmission point may be an antenna of the base station corresponding to a cell of the base station. Where the term "base station" refers to multiple co-located physical transmission points, the physical transmission point may be an antenna array of the base station (e.g., in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system, or the base station employs beamforming). Where the term "base station" refers to multiple non-co-located physical transmission points, the physical transmission point may be a distributed antenna system (DAS) (a network of spatially separated antennas connected to a common source via a transmission medium) or a remote radio head (RRH) (a remote base station connected to a serving base station). Optionally, the non-co-located physical transmission points may be a serving base station that receives measurement reports from the UE and a neighbor base station whose reference RF signal the UE is measuring.
[0038] Figure 1 An exemplary wireless communication system 100 is shown. The wireless communication system 100 (which may also be referred to as a wireless wide area network (WWAN)) may include various base stations 102 and various UEs 104. The base stations 102 may include macrocell base stations (high-power cellular base stations) and / or small cell base stations (low-power cellular base stations). In one aspect, the macrocell base station may include an eNB in which the wireless communication system 100 corresponds to an LTE network, or a gNB in which the wireless communication system 100 corresponds to a 5G network, or a combination of both, and the small cell base station may include a femtocell, a picocell, a microcell, etc.
[0039] The base stations 102 may form a RAN and interface with a core network 170 (e.g., an evolved packet core (EPC) or a next generation core (NGC)) via a backhaul link 122 and with one or more location servers 172 via a core network 170. The base stations 102 may perform, among other functions, functions related to transmission of user data, wireless channel encryption and decryption, integrity protection, header compression, mobility control functions (e.g., handover, dual connectivity), inter-cell interference coordination, connection establishment and release / load balancing, distribution of non-access stratum (NAS) messages, NAS node selection, synchronization, RAN sharing, multimedia broadcast multicast service (MBMS), subscriber and device tracking, RAN information management (RIM), paging, positioning, and delivery of warning messages. The base stations 102 may communicate with each other directly or indirectly (e.g., via an EPC / NGC) via a backhaul link 134, which may be wired or wireless.
[0040] The base station 102 can communicate wirelessly with the UE 104. Each base station 102 can provide communication coverage for a corresponding geographic coverage area 110. In one aspect, the base station 102 in each coverage area 110 can support one or more cells. A "cell" is a logical communication entity used to communicate with a base station (e.g., through some frequency resources, called carrier frequency, component carrier, carrier, frequency band, etc.), and can be associated with an identifier (e.g., a physical cell identifier (PCID), a virtual cell identifier (VCID)) to distinguish cells operating via the same or different carrier frequencies. In some cases, different cells can be configured according to different protocol types (e.g., machine type communication (MTC), narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT), enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) or others), which can provide access for different types of UEs. In some cases, the term "cell" can also refer to a geographic coverage area (e.g., a sector) of a base station, as long as the carrier frequency can be detected and used for communication within certain parts of the geographic coverage area 110.
[0041] Although the geographic coverage areas 110 of adjacent macrocell base stations 102 may partially overlap (e.g., in a handoff region), some geographic coverage areas may substantially overlap with the larger geographic coverage area 110. For example, a small cell base station 102′ may have a coverage area 100′ that substantially overlaps with the coverage area 110 of one or more macrocell base stations 102. A network including small cell and macrocell base stations may be referred to as a heterogeneous network. A heterogeneous network may also include a home eNB (HeNB), which may provide services to a restricted group called a closed subscriber group (CSG).
[0042] The communication link 120 between the base station 102 and the UE 104 may include UL (also referred to as a reverse link) transmissions from the UE 104 to the base station 102 and / or downlink (DL) (also referred to as a forward link) transmissions from the base station 102 to the UE 104. The communication link 120 may use MIMO antenna technology, including spatial multiplexing, beamforming, and / or transmit diversity. The communication link 120 may be over one or more carrier frequencies. The allocation of carriers may be asymmetric with respect to DL and UL (e.g., more or fewer carriers may be allocated for DL than for UL).
[0043] The wireless communication system 100 may also include a wireless local area network (WLAN) access point (AP) 150 that communicates with a WLAN station (STA) 152 via a communication link 154 in an unlicensed spectrum (e.g., 5 GHz). When communicating in the unlicensed spectrum, the WLAN STA 152 and / or the WLAN AP 150 may perform a clear channel assessment (CCA) prior to communication to determine whether the channel is available.
[0044] The small cell base station 102' can operate in a licensed and / or unlicensed spectrum. When operating in an unlicensed spectrum, the small cell base station 102' can adopt LTE or 5G technology and use the same 5GHz unlicensed spectrum used by the WLAN AP 150. The small cell base station 102' adopting LTE / 5G in the unlicensed spectrum can improve the coverage and / or increase the capacity of the access network. LTE in the unlicensed spectrum can be referred to as LTE Unlicensed (LTE-U), License Assisted Access (LAA), or MulteFire.
[0045] The wireless communication system 100 may further include a millimeter wave (mmW) base station 180, which can operate at millimeter wave frequencies and / or near millimeter wave frequencies for communicating with UE 182. Ultra-high frequency (EHF) is a part of radio frequency in the electromagnetic spectrum. EHF has a range of 30GHz to 300GHz and a wavelength between 1 mm and 10 mm. The radio waves in this band can be called millimeter waves. Near millimeter waves can extend down to a frequency of 3GHz with a wavelength of 100 mm. The ultra-high frequency (SHF) band extends between 3GHz and 30GHz and is also called centimeter waves. Communications using millimeter wave / near millimeter wave radio frequency bands have high path loss and relatively short distances. The mmW base station 180 and the UE 182 can utilize beamforming (transmitting and / or receiving) on the mmW communication link 184 to compensate for the extremely high path loss and short distance. In addition, it should be understood that in an alternative configuration, one or more base stations 102 can also transmit using millimeter waves or near millimeter waves and beamforming. Therefore, it should be understood that the foregoing diagrams are merely examples and should not be construed as limiting the various aspects disclosed herein.
[0046] Transmit beamforming is a technique for focusing a radio frequency signal into a specific direction. Traditionally, when a network node (e.g., a base station) broadcasts an RF signal, it broadcasts that signal in all directions (omnidirectional). With transmit beamforming, the network node determines where a given target device (e.g., a UE) is located (relative to the transmitting network node) and projects a stronger downlink RF signal in that specific direction, thereby providing a faster (in terms of data rate) and stronger RF signal to the receiving device. In order to change the directionality of an RF signal when transmitting, the network node can control the phase and relative amplitude of the RF signal at each of the one or more transmitters that broadcast the RF signal. For example, a network node may use an antenna array (referred to as a "phased array" or "antenna array") that can create an RF wave beam that can be "steered" to point in different directions without actually moving the antenna. Specifically, the radio frequency current from the transmitter is fed to the individual antennas in the correct phase relationship so that the radio waves from the separate antennas add to increase the radiation in the desired direction while canceling to suppress radiation in undesired directions.
[0047] In receive beamforming, a receiver uses a receive beam to amplify an RF signal detected on a given channel. For example, a receiver may increase the gain setting and / or adjust the phase setting of an antenna array in a particular direction to amplify (e.g., increase the gain level) the RF signal received from that direction. Thus, when a receiver is said to be beamforming in a certain direction, it means that the beam gain in that direction is high relative to the beam gain along other directions, or the beam gain in that direction is the highest compared to the beam gain in that direction of all other receive beams available to the receiver. This results in the RF signal received from that direction having a stronger received signal strength (e.g., reference signal received power (RSRP), reference signal received quality (RSRQ), signal-to-noise ratio (SINR), etc.).
[0048] In 5G, the spectrum in which wireless nodes (e.g., base stations 102 / 180, UEs 104 / 182) operate is divided into multiple frequency ranges, FR1 (450 to 6000 MHz), FR2 (24250 to 52600 MHz), FR3 (above 52600 MHz), and FR4 (between FR1 and FR2). In a multi-carrier system (such as 5G), one of the carrier frequencies is called the "primary carrier" or "anchor carrier", or "primary serving cell" or "PCell", and the remaining carrier frequencies are called "secondary carriers" or "secondary serving cells" or "SCELLs". In carrier aggregation, the anchor carrier is a carrier operating on the primary frequency (e.g., FR1) used by the UE 104 / 182, and is the cell in which the UE 104 / 182 performs an initial radio resource control (RRC) connection establishment procedure or initiates an RRC connection reestablishment procedure. The primary carrier carries all common and UE-specific control channels. A secondary carrier is a carrier operating on a second frequency (e.g., FR2) that can be configured once an RRC connection is established between the UE 104 and the anchor carrier. The secondary carrier may contain only necessary signaling information and signals, for example, since both the primary uplink and downlink carriers are typically UE-specific, UE-specific signals may not be present in the secondary carrier. This means that different UEs 104 / 182 in a cell may have different downlink primary carriers. The same is true for the uplink primary carrier. The network is able to change the primary carrier of any UE 104 / 182 at any time. For example, this is done to balance the load on different carriers. Since a "serving cell" (whether a PCell or SCell) corresponds to a carrier frequency / component carrier on which a base station is communicating, the terms "cell", "serving cell", "component carrier", "carrier frequency", etc. can be used interchangeably.
[0049] For example, still refer to Figure 1 , one of the frequencies used by macrocell base station 102 may be an anchor carrier (or "PCell"), and the other frequencies used by macrocell base station 101 and / or mmW base station 180 may be supplementary carriers ("SCells"). Simultaneous transmission and / or reception of multiple carriers enables UE 104 / 182 to significantly increase its data transmission and / or reception rate. For example, two 20 MHz aggregated carriers in a multi-carrier system theoretically result in a two-fold increase in data rate (i.e., 40 MHz) compared to a single 20 MHz carrier.
[0050] The wireless communication system 100 may also include one or more UEs, such as UE 190, which are indirectly connected to one or more communication networks via one or more device-to-device (D2D) or peer-to-peer (P2P) links. Figure 1In the example of FIG. 1 , UE 190 has a D2D P2P link 192, in which one UE 104 is connected to a base station 102 (e.g., through which UE 190 can indirectly obtain a cellular connection), and a D2D P2P link 194, in which a WLAN STA 152 is connected to a WLAN AP 150 (through which UE 190 can indirectly obtain a WLAN-based Internet connection). In an example, D2D P2P links 192 and 194 can be supported by any known D2D RAT, such as LTE Direct (LTE-D), WiFi Direct (WiFi-D), etc.
[0051] The wireless communication system 100 may also include a UE 164, which may communicate with the macrocell base station 102 via a communication link 120 and / or communicate with the mmW base station 180 via a mmW communication link 184. For example, the macrocell base station 102 may support a PCell and one or more SCells for the UE 164, and the mmW base station 180 may support one or more SCells for the UE 164. In one aspect, the UE 164 may include a PSI manager 166, which may enable the UE 164 to perform the UE operations described herein. Note that although Figure 1 Only one UE is shown as having a PSI manager 166, but Figure 1 Any UE in the may be configured to perform the UE operations described herein.
[0052] Figure 2A An example wireless network architecture 200 is shown. For example, the NGC 210 (also referred to as a "5GC") can be functionally viewed as a control plane function 214 (e.g., UE registration, authentication, network access, gateway selection, etc.) and a user plane function 212, (e.g., UE gateway function, access to data networks, IP routing, etc.), which operate in conjunction to form a core network. A user plane interface (NG-U) 213 and a control plane interface (NG-C) 215 connect the gNB 222 to the NGC 210, specifically to the control plane function 214 and the user plane function 212. In an additional configuration, the eNB 224 can also be connected to the NGC 210 via the NG-C 215 to the control plane function 214 and the NG-U 213 to the user plane function 212. In addition, the eNB 224 can communicate directly with the gNB 222 via the backhaul connection 223. In some configurations, the new RAN 220 may have only one or more gNBs 222, while other configurations include one or more of the eNBs 224 and the gNBs 222. The gNB 222 or the eNB 224 may communicate with the UE 204 (e.g., Figure 1Another optional aspect may include one or more location servers 230a, 230b (sometimes collectively referred to as location servers 230) (which may correspond to location server 172), which may communicate with control plane function 214 and user plane function 212 to provide location assistance to UE 204. Location servers 230 may be implemented as multiple separate servers (e.g., physically separate servers, different software modules on a single server, other software modules distributed across multiple physical servers, etc.), or alternatively may each correspond to a single server. Location servers 230 may be configured to support one or more location services for UE 204, which may be connected to location servers 230 via the core network, NGC 210, and / or via the Internet (not shown). In addition, location servers 230 may be integrated into a component of the core network, or alternatively may be external to the core network, such as in a new RAN 220.
[0053] Figure 2B Another example of a wireless network structure 250 is shown. For example, NGC 260 (also referred to as "5GC") can be functionally considered as a control plane function, provided by access and mobility management function (AMF) 264, user plane function (UPF) 262, session management function (SMF) 266, SLP 268, and LMF 270, which operate in collaboration to form a core network (i.e., NGC 260). The user plane interface 263 and the control plane interface 265 connect the ng-eNB 224 to the NGC 260, in particular to the UPF 262 and the AMF 264. In an additional configuration, the gNB 222 can also be connected to the NGC 260 via the control plane interface 265 to the AMF 264 and the user plane interface 263 to the UPF 262. In addition, the eNB 224 can communicate directly with the gNB 222 via the backhaul connection 223, whether or not there is a gNB direct connection to the NGC 260. In some configurations, the new RAN 220 may have only one or more GNBs 222, while other configurations include one or more of ng-eNB 224 and gNB 222. The ng-gNB 222 or eNB 224 may communicate with the UE 204 (e.g. Figure 1 The base stations of the new RAN 220 communicate with the AMF 264 via the N2 interface and communicate with the UPF 262 via the N3 interface.
[0054] The functions of AMF include registration management, connection management, reachability management, mobility management, lawful interception, session management (SM) message transmission between UE 204 and SMF 266, transparent proxy service for routing SM messages, access authentication and access authorization, short message service (SMS) message transmission between UE 204 and short message service function (SMSF) (not shown), and security anchor function (SEF). AMF also interacts with authentication server function (AUSF) (not shown) and UE 204, and receives intermediate keys established as a result of the UE 204 authentication process. In the case of authentication based on UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) User Identity Module (USIM), AMF retrieves security materials from AUSF. The functions of AMF also include security context management (SCM). SCM receives keys from SEF, which are used to derive access network specific keys. The functions of the AMF also include location service management of regulatory services, location service message transmission between the UE 204 and the location management function (LMF) 270 (which may correspond to the location server 172) and between the new RAN 220 and the LMF 270, allocation of an evolved packet system (EPS) bearer identifier for interworking with the EPS, and notification of mobility events of the UE 204. In addition, the AMF also supports the functions of non-3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) access networks.
[0055] The functions of the UPF include acting as an anchor point for intra-RAT / inter-RAT mobility (if applicable), acting as an external protocol data unit (PDU) session point for interconnection with a data network (not shown), providing packet routing and forwarding, packet inspection, user plane policy rule enforcement (e.g., gateway, redirection, flow control), lawful interception (user plane collection), traffic usage reporting, quality of service (QoS) processing in the user plane (e.g., UL / DL rate enforcement, reflective QoS marking in DL), UL traffic verification (service data flow (SDF) to QoS flow mapping), transport level packet marking in UL and DL, DL packet buffering and DL data notification triggering, and sending and forwarding one or more "end markers" to the source RAN node.
[0056] The functions of SMF 266 include session management, UE Internet Protocol (IP) address allocation and management, selection and control of user plane functions, flow control configuration at UPF to route traffic to the correct destination, partial policy enforcement and QoS control, and downlink data notification. The interface through which SMF 266 communicates with AMF 264 is called the N11 interface.
[0057] Another optional aspect may include LMF 270, which may communicate with NGC 260 to provide location assistance to UE 204. LMF 270 may be implemented as multiple independent servers (e.g., physically independent servers, different software modules on a single server, different software modules distributed across multiple physical servers, etc.), or may each correspond to a single server. LMF 270 may be configured to support one or more location services for UE 204, which may be connected to LMF 270 via a core network and / or connected to NGC 260 via the Internet (not shown).
[0058] Figure 3 A block diagram of a design 300 of a base station 102 and a UE 104 is shown, which may be Figure 1 The base station 102 may be equipped with T antennas 334a through 334t, and the UE 104 may be equipped with R antennas 352a through 352t, where r≥1 and R≥1.
[0059] At the base station 102, the transmit processor 320 may receive data from a data source 312 for one or more UEs, select one or more modulation and coding schemes (MCS) for each UE based at least in part on a channel quality indicator (CQI) received from the UE, process (e.g., encode and modulate) data for each UE based at least in part on the MCS selected for the UE, and provide data symbols for all UEs. The transmit processor 320 may also process system information (e.g., semi-static resource partitioning information (SRPI), etc.) and control information (e.g., CQI requests, grants, upper layer signaling, etc.), and provide overhead symbols and control symbols. The transmit processor 320 may also generate reference symbols for reference signals (e.g., cell-specific reference signals (CRS)) and synchronization signals (e.g., primary synchronization signals (PSS) and secondary synchronization signals (SSS)). The transmit (TX) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) processor 330 may perform spatial processing (e.g., precoding) on data symbols, control symbols, overhead symbols, and / or reference symbols (if applicable), and may provide T output symbol streams to T modulators (MOD) 332a to 332t. Each modulator 332 may process a corresponding output symbol stream (e.g., for OFDM and / or the like) to obtain an output sample stream. Each modulator 332 may further process (e.g., convert to analog, amplify, filter, and up-convert) the output sample stream to obtain a downlink signal. The T downlink signals from modulators 332a to 332t may be transmitted via T antennas 334a to 334t, respectively. According to various aspects described in more detail below, position coding may be used to generate synchronization signals to convey additional information.
[0060] At the UE 104, antennas 352a to 352r may receive downlink signals from the base station 102 and / or other base stations and may provide received signals to demodulators (demodulators) 354a to 354r, respectively. Each demodulator 354 may condition (e.g., filter, amplify, downconvert, and digitize) the received signal to obtain input samples. Each demodulator 354 may further process the input samples (e.g., for OFDM and / or similar techniques) to obtain received symbols. A MIMO detector 356 may obtain received symbols from all R demodulators 354a to 354r, perform MIMO detection on the received symbols where applicable, and provide detected symbols. A receive processor 358 may process (e.g., demodulate and decode) the detected symbols, provide decoded data for the UE 104 to a data sink 360, and provide decoded control information and system information to a controller / processor 380. The channel processor may determine reference signal received power (RSRP), received signal strength indicator (RSSI), reference signal received quality (RSRQ), channel quality indicator (CQI), etc. In some aspects, one or more components of the UE 104 may be included in a housing.
[0061] On the uplink, at the UE 104, a transmit processor 364 may receive and process data from a data source 362 and control information from a controller / processor 380 (e.g., for reports including RSRP, RSSI, RSRQ, CQI, etc.). The transmit processor 364 may also generate reference symbols for one or more reference signals. The symbols from the transmit processor 364 may be precoded by a TX MIMO processor 366 (if applicable), further processed by modulators 354a through 354r (e.g., for DFT-s-OFDM, CP-OFDM, etc.), and transmitted to the base station 102. At the base station 102, uplink signals from the UE 104 and other UEs may be received by antennas 334, processed by demodulators 332, detected by MIMO detectors 336 (if applicable), and further processed by receive processors 338 to obtain decoded data and control information sent by the UE 104. The receive processor 338 may provide decoded data to a data sink 339 and decoded control information to the controller / processor 340. The base station 102 may include a communication unit 344 and communicate with the location server 172 via the communication unit 343. The location server 172 may include a communication unit 394, a controller / processor 390, and a memory 392.
[0062] The controller / processor 340 of the base station 102, the controller / processor 380 of the UE 104, the controller / processor 390 of the location server 172, and / or Figure 3Any other component of the controller / processor 340 of the base station 102, the controller / server 380 of the UE 104, the controller / controller 390 of the location server 172, and / or Figure 3 Any other component of the can perform or direct e.g. Fig. 9 The process of 900 Fig.10 The process of 1000 Fig.13 Process 1300, Fig.14 1400 and / or other processes described herein. Memories 342, 382, and 392 may store data and program codes for base station 102, UE 104, and location server 172, respectively. In some aspects, memory 342, memory 382, and memory 392 may include non-transitory computer-readable media storing one or more instructions for wireless communication. For example, when executed by one or more processors of base station 102, UE 104, or location server 172, the one or more instructions may perform or direct, for example, Fig. 9 The process of 900 Fig.10 The process of 1000 Fig.13 Process 1300, Fig.14 The scheduler 346 may schedule UEs for data transmission on the downlink and / or uplink.
[0063] As mentioned above, providing Figure 3 As an example. Other examples may differ from Figure 3 An example of description.
[0064] Figure 4 The structure of an exemplary subframe sequence 400 with positioning reference signal (PRS) positioning opportunities according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. The subframe sequence 400 may be applicable to the broadcast of PRS signals from a base station (such as any base station described herein) or other network nodes. The subframe sequence 400 may be used in an LTE system, and the same or similar subframe sequences may be used in other communication technologies / protocols, such as 5G NR. Figure 4 In , time is represented horizontally (e.g., on the X-axis), with time increasing from left to right, and frequency is represented vertically (e.g., on the Y-axis), with frequency increasing (or decreasing) from bottom to top. Figure 4As shown, the downlink and uplink radio frames 410 may each have a duration of 10 milliseconds (ms). For a downlink frequency division duplex (FDD) mode, in the example shown, the radio frame 410 is organized into 10 subframes 412, each of which has a duration of 1 ms. Each subframe 412 includes two time slots 414, each of which has a duration of, for example, 0.5 ms.
[0065] In the frequency domain, the available bandwidth may be divided into evenly spaced orthogonal subcarriers 416 (also referred to as "tones" or "bins"). For example, for a normal length cyclic prefix (CP) using, for example, 15 kHz spacing, the subcarriers 416 may be grouped into groups of twelve (12) subcarriers. A resource (represented as a block of subframes 412) of one OFDM symbol length in the time domain and one subcarrier in the frequency domain is referred to as a resource element (RE). Each grouping of 12 subcarriers 416 and 14 OFDM symbols is referred to as a resource block (RB), and in the example above, the number of subcarriers in a resource block may be written as For a given channel bandwidth, the number of available resource blocks on each channel 422 (also referred to as transmission bandwidth configuration 422) is expressed as For example, for the 3 MHz channel bandwidth in the above example, the number of available resource blocks on each channel 422 is given by Note that the frequency components of a resource block (e.g., 12 subcarriers) are called physical resource blocks (PRBs).
[0066] The base station can Figure 4 A frame configuration similar to or identical to the frame configuration shown transmits a radio frame (e.g., radio frame 410) or other physical layer signaling sequence supporting a PRS signal (i.e., a downlink (DL) PRS) that can be measured and used for UE (e.g., any UE described herein) position estimation. Other types of wireless nodes in a wireless communication network (e.g., a distributed antenna system (DAS), a remote radio head (RRH), a UE, an AP, etc.) can also be configured to transmit similar to (or identical to) Figure 4 The PRS signal is configured in the manner shown.
[0067] A set of resource elements used to transmit a PRS signal is called a "PRS resource". A set of resource elements may span multiple PRBs in the frequency domain and N (e.g., 1 or more) consecutive symbols within a time slot 414 in the time domain. For example, the cross-hatched resource elements in a time slot 414 may be examples of two PRS resources. A "PRS resource set" is a set of PRS resources used to transmit a PRS signal, where each PRS resource has a PRS resource identifier (ID). In addition, the PRS resources in a PRS resource set are associated with the same transmission reception point (TRP). The PRS resource ID in a PRS resource set is associated with a single beam transmitted from a single TRP (where a TRP may transmit one or more beams). Note that this has no effect on whether the UE knows the TRP and beam from which the signal is transmitted.
[0068] PRS can be sent in special positioning subframes grouped into positioning opportunities. A PRS opportunity is an instance of a periodically repeating time window (e.g., consecutive time slots) in which PRS is expected to be sent. Each periodically repeating time window may include a group of one or more consecutive PRS opportunities. Each PRS opportunity may include a number N PRS The PRS positioning opportunities of the cells supported by the base station can be T PRS The interval of milliseconds or subframes occurs periodically. As an example, Figure 4 Shows N PRS Equal to 4418 and T PRS A periodicity of positioning occasions greater than or equal to 20420. In some aspects, T may be measured based on the number of subframes between the start of consecutive positioning occasions. PRS Multiple PRS opportunities may be associated with the same PRS resource configuration, in which case each such opportunity is referred to as a "PRS resource opportunity" or the like.
[0069] PRS can be transmitted at constant power. PRS can also be transmitted at zero power (i.e., muted). When PRS signals between different cells overlap due to simultaneous or nearly simultaneous occurrence, it may be useful to turn off muting of regularly scheduled PRS transmissions. In this case, PRS signals from certain cells may be muted, while PRS signals from other cells are sent (e.g., at constant power). Muting can help UEs perform signal acquisition and arrival time (TOA) and reference signal time difference (RSTD) measurements on unmuted PRS signals (by avoiding interference from muted PRS signals). Muting can be regarded as non-transmission of PRS for a given positioning occasion of a particular cell. A muting mode (also called a muting sequence) can be signaled to the UE using a bit string (e.g., using the LTE Positioning Protocol (LPP)). For example, in signaling a bit string to indicate a muting mode, if the bit at position j is set to "0", the UE can infer that the PRS is muted at the jth positioning occasion.
[0070] To further improve the audibility of the PRS, the positioning subframe can be a low-interference subframe sent without a user data channel. Therefore, in an ideal synchronized network, the PRS may be interfered by the PRS of other cells with the same PRS pattern index (i.e., with the same frequency shift), but will not be interfered by data transmission. The frequency shift can be defined as a function of the PRS ID of the cell or other transmission point (TP) (expressed as ), or if no PRS ID is assigned, it is defined as the physical cell identifier (PCI) (denoted as ), which results in an effective frequency reuse factor of six (6).
[0071] To improve the audibility of the PRS (e.g., when the PRS bandwidth is limited, such as only six resource blocks corresponding to a 1.4 MHz bandwidth), the frequency band of consecutive PRS positioning occasions (or consecutive PRS subframes) can be changed in a known and predictable manner by frequency hopping. In addition, a cell supported by a base station may support more than one PRS configuration, where each PRS configuration may include a different frequency offset (vshift), a different carrier frequency, a different bandwidth, a different code sequence, and / or a subframe with a specific number of subframes per positioning occasion (N PRS ) and specific periodicity (T PRS ). In some implementations, one or more PRS configurations supported in a cell may be used for directional PRS, which may then have additional different characteristics, such as different transmission directions, different horizontal angle ranges, and / or different vertical angle ranges.
[0072] The PRS configuration as described above (including the PRS transmission / muting schedule) is signaled to the UE to enable the UE to perform PRS positioning measurements. It is not expected that the UE blindly performs detection of the PRS configuration.
[0073] Note that the terms "positioning reference signal" and "PRS" may sometimes refer to a specific reference signal used for positioning in an LTE system. However, as used herein, unless otherwise specified, the terms "positioning reference signal" and "PRS" refer to any type of reference signal that can be used for positioning, such as but not limited to PRS signals in LTE, navigation reference signals (NRS), transmitter reference signals (TRS), cell-specific reference signals (CRS), channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS), primary synchronization signals (PSS), secondary synchronization signals (SSS), etc.
[0074] Similar to the DL PRS sent by the above-mentioned base station, the UE can send UL PRS for positioning. The UL PRS can be, for example, a sounding reference signal (SRS) used for positioning. Using the DL PRS received from the base station and / or the UL PRS sent to the base station, the UE can perform various positioning methods, such as time of arrival (TOA), reference signal time difference (RSTD), time difference of arrival (TDOA), reference signal received power (RSRP), time difference between signal reception and transmission (Rx-Tx), angle of arrival (AoA) or angle of departure (AoD), etc. In some implementations, DL-PRS and UL-PRS are jointly received and sent to perform multi-cell positioning measurements, such as multiple round trip times (RTT).
[0075] Various positioning techniques rely on DL-PRS or UL-PRS (or SRS for positioning). For example, positioning techniques using reference signals include downlink-based positioning, uplink-based positioning, and combined downlink and uplink-based positioning. For example, downlink-based positioning includes positioning methods such as DL-TDOA and DL-AoD. Uplink-based positioning includes positioning methods such as UL-TDOA and UL-AoA. Downlink- and uplink-based positioning includes positioning methods such as RTT (multi-RTT) with one or more neighboring base stations. There are other positioning methods, including methods that do not rely on PRS. For example, enhanced cell ID (E-CID) based on radio resource management (RRM) measurements.
[0076] 3GPP Release 16 introduced high-precision positioning techniques, such as the use of large bandwidth, beam scanning in frequency range 2 (FR2), which includes the band from 24.25 GHz to 52.6 GHz, angle-based positioning methods such as AoA and AoD, and multi-RTT. However, latency was not addressed in depth in Release 16. For example, in Release 16, it was agreed that "UE-based positioning", such as DL-based positioning, can save latency. However, reporting in Release 16 is done through LPP or RRC using mechanisms similar to LTE, and low-latency reporting is not provided. For example, LPP and RRC share physical resources and contain redundancy, which is beneficial in many ways, but inherently increases latency.
[0077] However, positioning requires low latency. For example, in certain Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) scenarios, a latency of less than 100ms or less than 10ms may be desirable. To reduce positioning latency, reporting can be performed using lower layer channels, for example, Layer 1 (L1) as a physical (PHY) layer or Layer 2 (L2) as a medium access control (MAC) layer, instead of using higher latency LPP or RRC. For example, lower layer reports can be used for on-demand positioning using special physical random access channel (PRACH) sequences. Using lower layer (L1 / L2) reports to reduce latency is beneficial for communications between UE 104 and base station 102. The latency issue between UE 104 and LMF270 can be addressed using additional mechanisms, such as "LMF in RAN". With LMF in RAN, the positioning server is located within the same Technical Specification Group (TSG) Radio Access Network (RAN). For example, the location server may be an internal function of a NG-RAN node, the location server may be a logical node within a split gNB, or the location server may be a logical node in the NG-RAN, connected to the NG-RAN nodes (gNB and / or NG-eNB) through an interface so that it can still receive reports from the UE.
[0078] However, positioning measurements are currently reported via higher layer signaling (e.g., via Layer 3 (L3), i.e., RRC or LPP). For example, measurement reports that may be provided via higher layer signaling include, for example, one or more of TOA, TDOA, RSRP, Rx-Tx, AoA / AoD, multipath reports (e.g., for TOA, RSRP, and AoA / AoD), motion state (e.g., walking, driving, etc.) and trajectory, and reporting quality indications.
[0079] It may be desirable to report positioning measurements, sometimes referred to herein as positioning state information (PSI) in lower layers (e.g., L1 / L2), to reduce latency. Positioning state information may alternatively be referred to as CSI report for positioning, CSI report with positioning measurements, measured location report, positioning measurement report, positioning information report, location information report, CSI report with location information. When PSI is reported using lower layer signaling, latency may be advantageously reduced. However, it is also desirable to reduce the overhead associated with reporting PSI using lower layer signaling.
[0080] In NR, the UE can report channel state information (CSI). CSI is not related to positioning, but provides a mechanism by which the UE reports various measured radio channel quality parameters to the network (e.g., gNB). For example, a CSI report can include several different radio channel parameters, such as channel quality indicator (CQI), precoding matrix indicator (PMI), rank indicator (RI), layer indicator (LI), L1-RSRP.
[0081] The parameters of the CSI report are encoded in the uplink control information (UCI) and mapped to the physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) or the physical uplink channel control channel (PUCCH). Depending on the physical channel used and the frequency granularity of the CSI report, the coding format used for the reported parameters may be different. Different coding schemes can be used, for example, because the payload size of the CSI can vary based on the UE's selection of CRI and RI. For example, the codebook size of the PMI report is different for different ranks, and in particular, its size may vary dramatically for type IICSI reports and subband PMI reports. Similarly, since one codeword is used up to rank 4 and two codewords are used for higher ranks, the number of CQI parameters included in the CSI report (given per codeword) may vary depending on the choice of rank.
[0082] For PUCCH-based CSI reporting with wideband frequency granularity, the variation of the PMI / CQI payload size depending on the selected rank is not too large, and therefore, a single group encoding of all CSI parameters in the UCI is used. However, the receiving base station needs to know the payload size of the UCI in order to decode the transmission. Therefore, for the CSI, the UCI is filled with a number of dummy bits corresponding to the difference between the maximum UCI payload size (i.e., corresponding to the RI that causes the maximum PMI / CQI overhead) and the actual payload size of the CSI report. By filling the UCI with dummy bits, the payload size is fixed regardless of the UE's RI selection. If the UCI is not filled with dummy bits, the base station does not know the UCI payload size and will have to try to decode CSI report transmissions of all possible UCI payload sizes, which is not feasible.
[0083] However, for PUCCH-based CSI with subband frequency granularity as well as PUSCH-based CSI reporting, the resulting overhead would be too large if the CSI report was always filled to the worst-case UCI payload size. For these cases, the CSI content is instead partitioned into two CSI parts, referred to as CSI part 1 and CSI part 2. CSI part 1 has a fixed payload size (and can be decoded by the gNB without a priori information), while CSI part 2 has a variable payload size. Information about the payload size of CSI part 2 can be derived from the CSI parameters included in CSI part 1. Therefore, the base station can first decode CSI part 1 to obtain a subset of the CSI parameters, and based on these CSI parameters the payload size of CSI part 2 can be inferred. The base station can then decode CSI part 2 to obtain the remaining CSI parameters.
[0084] Additionally, for Type II CSI feedback on PUSCH, CSI Part 2 may contain an indication of the number of "non-zero wideband amplitude coefficients" per layer. Wideband amplitude coefficients are part of the Type II codebook, and depending on whether the coefficient is zero, the PMI payload size will vary. Therefore, CSI Part 1 may include an indication of the number of non-zero coefficients.
[0085] For beam reporting of L1-RSRP, since the payload size remains unchanged, CSI can also use single-part coding.
[0086] Positioning State Information (PSI) differs from CSI in that the type of positioning measurement information included in a PSI report may vary widely depending on the type of positioning measurements performed, the number of positioning measurements, the types of positioning methods supported, etc. For example, the number of TRPs that a UE can detect or report for positioning depends on the UE's choice, the availability of PRSs for measurement, etc.
[0087] The types of positioning measurements or information that may be included in the PSI report may include, for example, timing measurements such as RSTD, UERx Tx, TOA, etc., energy or power measurements such as RSRP, angle measurements such as RSRP, quality metrics, speed and / or trajectory measurements, reference TRP, multipath information, line of sight (LOS) or non-line of sight (NLOS) factors, signal-to-noise ratio (SINR), and timestamps. It should be understood that this list is not exhaustive and other types of positioning measurements or information may need to be included in the PSI report. Each positioning measurement report can be reported as one or more vectors, for example, each vector is one or more measurement sets associated with at least one of the same time, the same TRP, the same beam, the same frequency band, the same antenna, or a combination thereof. So for example, the RSTD vector can be indicated as: {RSTD1, RSTD2...RSTDN), which are all associated with timestamp 1 and can come from the same or different TRPs, because there are cases where the UE reports multiple RSTDs for the same TRP. Therefore, the PSI report may include various different types of positioning measurement vectors, which may include: RSTD vector and timestamp, UE Rx-Tx vector and timestamp, RSRP vector and timestamp, quality metric vector and timestamp, velocity vector and timestamp, TOA vector and timestamp, multi-radial quantity and timestamp, line-of-sight / non-line-of-sight vector and timestamp, SINR vector and timestamp.
[0088] Figure 5 5 is a block diagram 500 illustrating a UE 104 and a network entity 510 configured to send and receive a PSI report 502 having one or more PSI report elements including positioning measurements on a lower layer channel, respectively, according to aspects of the present disclosure. Figure 5 As shown, UE 104 may send a prepared PSI report 502 to a network entity 510. The network entity 510 receiving the PSI report may be, for example, a base station (such as base station 102) or a location server (such as location server 172 or LMF 270) or a sidelink UE. The PSI report 502 is transmitted in a lower layer channel container and may contain one or more PSI report elements, each of which includes information related to positioning measurements performed by the UE.
[0089] As shown, PSI report 502 may be divided into two or more parts, where at least one part has a constant size and the remaining parts have variable sizes. Figure 5As shown, the first portion 504 of the PSI report 502 includes PSI reporting elements or information having a fixed size, and the second portion 506 of the PSI report 502 includes PSI reporting elements that may have a variable size. In some implementations, the UE 104 may include reporting information in the first portion 504 of the PSI report 502 whose size does not vary with the content of the UE report, such as the reporting configuration of the content included in portion 2. For example, the first portion 504 may include an indication of the type of positioning measurement vectors included in the second portion 506, and may also indicate the size of each positioning measurement vector. For example, the first portion 504 may indicate the type of positioning measurement vector included as a bit string of X bits, where each bit corresponds to a specific type of positioning measurement vector, and may indicate inclusion as "1" and exclusion as "0". In addition, X numbers may also be reported in the first portion 504, where each number corresponds to the size of each X positioning measurement vector.
[0090] The PSI report may be sent on a lower layer (L1 / L2) uplink channel, such as on the physical layer (PUSCH or PUCCH), the MAC layer (Medium Access Control - Control Element (MAC-CE) block), or the Physical Sidelink Shared Control Channel (PSSCH). The size of the PSI report may vary depending on many factors, such as the type of positioning measurement vector, the number of positioning measurements, the number of TRPs selected or available, etc. Since at least a portion of the PSI report may vary in size, the PSI payload may not fit into a channel container scheduled for the PSI report, such as a channel container in PUSCH, PUCCH, PSSCH, or MAC-CE, i.e., the code rate will be too large, or even uncoded systematic bits will not fit.
[0091] Thus, one or more PSI report elements may be compressed so that the PSI report may fit within a channel container. Some or all positioning measurement information of a PSI report (e.g., a PSI report element) may be compressed using different compression configurations, for example, by reducing the bit width, scaling, or changing the granularity, maximum value, minimum value, or combination thereof of the reported positioning measurements.
[0092] In one implementation, compression of one or more PSI reporting elements (including positioning measurement information) can be achieved by increasing the granularity or step size of the positioning measurement information. For example, positioning measurement information with a granularity of 1 can use 8 bits (which can represent 256 values) to report values between 0 and 255 (e.g., 1=256 / 256). By increasing the granularity of the reported positioning measurement data to, for example, 16, 4 bits (which can represent 16 values) can be used to report the same value between 0 and 225 (e.g., 16=256 / 16). Therefore, by increasing the granularity of the positioning measurement information in the PSI reporting element, the PSI reporting element can be compressed.
[0093] In one embodiment, compression of one or more PSI report elements (including positioning measurement information) can be achieved by reducing the maximum value of the positioning measurement information that can be reported. For example, for certain types of positioning measurements, larger positioning measurement values are unlikely or not required. For example, when using RSTD, the time difference between the received signals may be small, and therefore the maximum value of RSTD may be reduced. For example, (as described above, assuming a granularity of 1), positioning measurement information with possible values between 0 and 255 can be represented by 8 bits (which can represent 256 values). By reducing the maximum value of the positioning measurement information to 15, for example, so that the possible values reported are between 0 and 15, 4 bits (which can represent 16 values) can be used.
[0094] Similarly, in one implementation, compression of one or more PSI report elements including positioning measurement information may be achieved by increasing the minimum value of the positioning measurement information that may be reported. For certain types of positioning measurements, small positioning measurement values are unlikely or not required. For example, (as described above, assuming a granularity of 1), positioning measurement information with possible values between 0 and 255 may be represented by 8 bits (which may represent 256 values). By increasing the minimum value of the positioning measurement information to between 239 and 255, 4 bits (which may represent 16 values) may be used. Therefore, increasing the minimum value of the positioning measurement information in the PSI report element may compress the PSI report element.
[0095] Figure 6Examples of different ways to compress positioning measurement information 602 are illustrated. Positioning measurement information 602 generally represents any type of positioning information that one may wish to include in a PSI report. As indicated by the white circles, positioning measurement information 602 has a granularity or step size between data points. The granularity can be increased, for example, as indicated by the black squares on positioning measurement information 602′, which reduces the data points to be reported. Thus, positioning measurement information 602′ can be represented with less overhead than positioning measurement information 602. Additionally or alternatively, as indicated by arrow 604, the maximum value of positioning measurement information 602 or 602′ can be reduced, and / or as indicated by arrow 606, the minimum value of positioning measurement information 602 or 602′ can be increased to reduce the overhead of positioning measurement information 602 or 602′.
[0096] In one embodiment, compression of one or more PSI report elements including positioning measurement information may be achieved by scaling the reportable positioning measurement information. For example, linear scaling may be used, similar to increasing granularity, to reduce the number of data points in the positioning measurement information in the PSI report element, thereby compressing the PSI report element. Similarly, logarithmic scaling may be used to reduce the number of data points in the positioning measurement information in the PSI report element, thereby compressing the PSI report element. While various forms of logarithmic scaling are possible and may be used, examples of logarithmic scaling may use:
[0097]
[0098] K max =2 numbits -1; Equation 2
[0099]
[0100] Among them, numbits represents the number of bits to be used for reporting positioning measurement information, that is, overhead, C is the minimum value to be reported, such as 0.01m, and D is the maximum value to be reported, such as 1000m. Figure 7 is a semi-logarithmic plot showing an example of the effect of logarithmic scaling on the measured values (shown on the Y-axis) with the K value shown on the X-axis which can be used to compress the PSI reporting element.
[0101] The configuration for compressing positioning measurements in the PSI report, including the type of compression and the amount of compression, may be provided by a network entity (e.g., a serving base station or a location server) to the UE 104. In some implementations, the configuration for compressing positioning measurements in the PSI report, including the type of compression and the amount of compression, may be selected by the UE 104 and may be provided by the UE 104 in the PSI report (e.g., Figure 5 The first part 504 of the PSI report 502 is shown as provided to the network entity.
[0102] The compression configuration may include, for example, the type of compression used, such as increasing granularity, linear or logarithmic scaling, reducing maximum values, increasing minimum values, combinations thereof, or different compression schemes, and the amount of compression. In addition, the compression configuration may be based on the positioning measurement information to be reported. For example, in one implementation, a compression configuration may be selected for each type of positioning measurement. For example, a first compression configuration may be selected for RSTD positioning measurements, while a second (different) compression configuration may be selected for TOA positioning measurements.
[0103] In another embodiment, compression configurations may be selected for different categories of positioning measurements. For example, a first compression configuration may be selected for all timing-related positioning measurements, a second compression configuration may be selected for all angle-related positioning measurements, and a third compression configuration may be selected for all power-based positioning measurements (i.e., any energy-based measurements, such as RSRP, SINR, RSSI, etc.).
[0104] In another implementation, the compression configuration set may be preconfigured. For example, the compression configuration set may be preconfigured to provide high compression, i.e., a large amount of compression, and the compression configuration set may be preconfigured to provide low compression, i.e., less compression than the high compression configuration. For example, the compression configuration sets may be stored in tables that may be stored in a memory of the UE and accessed, or may be sent to the UE by a network entity. The UE or the network entity may select a compression configuration set for each type of positioning measurement or each category of positioning measurement.
[0105] In some implementations, the compression configuration to be used, including the type of compression and the amount of compression, may be based on the type of lower layer channel on which the PSI report is to be sent. For example, if the PSI report is to be sent on a physical layer channel such as PUCCH, a high level of compression may be used, e.g., higher than if the PSI report is to be sent using PUSCH or PSSCH. In addition, the compression configuration to be used, including the type of compression and the amount of compression, may be based on the format of the lower layer channel on which the PSI report is to be sent. For example, for a short format PUCCH, a higher level of compression may be used than for a long format PUCCH because the short format PUCCH has fewer bits than the long format.
[0106] In some implementations, even after compression of one or more PSI report elements, the PSI report may not fit into the channel container scheduled for the PSI report. In such an instance, one or more PSI report elements may be omitted from the PSI report so that the PSI report fits into the channel container. For example, the PSI report elements may be sorted in a predetermined manner, for example, according to a rule based on a predetermined priority, so that the low-priority PSI elements in the variable size portion or report are omitted from the PSI report before the high-priority element. For example, the sorting of the PSI report elements may be based on the priority given to different types or categories of positioning measurements. For example, the PSI report elements may be mapped to the channel container according to one or more predetermined priority rules, wherein the PSI report elements of higher priority are first mapped, and then the PSI report elements of lower priority are sequentially mapped. If the resulting code rate of the PSI report is higher than a threshold, for example, based on the size of the channel container, the PSI report element of the lowest priority is ignored. In some implementations, the sorting of the PSI report elements may be performed based on, for example, a predetermined priority-based rule before compressing the PSI report elements.
[0107] Figure 8 800 is a block diagram illustrating a UE 104 according to one aspect of the present disclosure, wherein the UE 104 is configured to sort and omit low priority PSI report elements in a PSI report to be transmitted on a lower layer channel. As shown, the UE 104 may determine a plurality of PSI report elements 802. For example, each PSI report element includes information related to a positioning measurement performed by the UE 104. As described above, the PSI report element may include, for example, an RSTD vector, a UE Rx-Tx vector, an RSRP vector, a positioning measurement quality metric, a speed vector, a reference TRP, a TOA vector, a multipath vector, a LOS / NLOS factor, a SINR vector, or a timestamp. In addition, as described above, one or more PSI report elements may be compressed. As shown by arrow 804, the UE 104 sorts the PSI report elements according to a predetermined priority-based rule, thereby generating sorted PSI elements 806, wherein the highest priority PSI report element is displayed on the left and the lowest priority PSI report element is displayed on the right. In some implementations, one or more PSI report elements may be compressed before or after the ordering of the PSI report elements as indicated by arrow 804 .
[0108] In this example, even if one or more PSI report elements are compressed, the size of the ordered PSI report elements is larger than the lower layer channel container in which the PSI report is to be sent, such as PUSCH, PUCCH or PSSCH, or MAC-CE. Therefore, the UE 104 generates a PSI report 808 including higher priority PSI report elements (one or more of which are compressed) and omits 810 lower priority PSI elements, such as PSI element 4, from the PSI report. When omitting a PSI report element, the UE 104 may omit all positioning measurement information in the PSI report element. The PSI report elements may be mapped to the channel container according to one or more priority rules, wherein the higher priority PSI report elements are mapped first, and then the lower priority PSI report elements are mapped in sequence. If the resulting size of the PSI report is larger than the size of the channel container, the lowest priority PSI report element may be omitted.
[0109] Thus, in one implementation, UE 104 may compress one or more PSI report elements and determine that the size of the resulting PSI report is larger than the lower layer channel container. UE 104 may then omit at least one PSI report element from the PSI report so that the remaining PSI report elements fit within the container.
[0110] Fig. 9 9 is a flow chart illustrating a process in which a UE may compress and omit one or more PSI report elements so that the resulting PSI report fits within a lower layer channel container. As shown, at block 910, the UE may generate a PSI report using multiple PSI report elements. For example, each PSI report element includes information related to positioning measurements performed by the UE. In some implementations, the UE may generate a report by sorting the PSI report elements according to a predetermined priority order.
[0111] At block 920, the UE determines whether the PSI report fits within a lower layer channel container. For example, if the resulting code rate of the PSI report is below a threshold, e.g., based on the size of the channel container, then it is determined that the PSI report fits within the container and the process flow proceeds to block 960. On the other hand, if the resulting code rate of the PSI report is above a threshold, e.g., based on the size of the channel container, the PSI report is not within the container and the process flow proceeds to block 930.
[0112] In box 930, one or more PSI report elements are compressed, for example, based on a compression configuration provided by a network entity or a compression configuration selected by a UE. For example, the positioning measurement information within one or more PSI report elements can be compressed by increasing granularity, linear or logarithmic scaling, reducing the maximum value, increasing the minimum value, a combination thereof, or different compression schemes. In some implementations, all PSI report elements can be compressed. In other implementations, if the PSI report elements have been sorted based on a predetermined priority ranking, a subset of the PSI report elements can be compressed, such as all PSI report elements except the highest priority report element. In another embodiment, a subset of the PSI report elements can be compressed with a first compression level, wherein the remaining subset of the PSI report elements can be compressed with a different compression level, for example, the highest priority report element can have a lower compression than the remaining PSI report elements.
[0113] At block 940, the UE determines whether the PSI report with one or more compressed PSI report elements fits in a lower layer channel container. For example, if the resulting code rate of the PSI report is below a threshold, e.g., based on the size of the channel container, then it is determined that the PSI report fits within the container, and the process flow proceeds to block 960. On the other hand, if the resulting code rate of the PSI report is above a threshold, e.g., based on the size of the channel container, then the PSI report does not fit within the container, and the process flow proceeds to block 950.
[0114] At block 950, one or more PSI reporting elements are omitted from the PSI report. For example, if the PSI reporting elements have not been ordered, the UE may order the PSI reporting elements according to a predetermined priority order, and as described above, the lowest priority PSI reporting elements may be omitted from the PSI report. After omitting the PSI reporting elements, the process flow returns to block 940, where the UE determines whether the PSI report with one or more compressed PSI reporting elements (and one or more PSI reporting elements omitted) fits in the lower layer channel container. The process repeats until the PSI report fits within the lower layer channel container, and at block 960, the UE sends the resulting PSI report to the network entity in the lower layer channel container.
[0115] In another implementation, the UE 104 may iteratively compress and omit PSI report elements until the resulting PSI report is larger than the lower layer channel container.
[0116] Fig.101 is a flow chart illustrating a process in which a UE may iteratively compress and omit one or more PSI report elements so that the resulting PSI report fits within a lower layer channel container. As shown, at block 1010, the UE may generate a PSI report using multiple PSI report elements. For example, each PSI report element includes information related to positioning measurements performed by the UE. In some implementations, the UE may generate a report by sorting the PSI report elements according to a predetermined priority order.
[0117] At block 1020, the UE determines whether the PSI report fits within a lower layer channel container. For example, if the resulting code rate of the PSI report is below a threshold, e.g., based on the size of the channel container, then it is determined that the PSI report fits within the container, and process flow proceeds to block 1060. On the other hand, if the resulting code rate of the PSI report is above a threshold, e.g., based on the size of the channel container, then the PSI report is not within the container, and process flow proceeds to block 1030.
[0118] In box 1030, if the PSI report elements have not been sorted, the UE may sort the PSI report elements according to a predetermined priority order and, for example, based on a compression configuration provided by a network entity or a compression configuration selected by the UE, compress the lowest priority PSI report element. For example, the positioning measurement information within the lowest priority PSI report element may be compressed by increasing granularity, linear or logarithmic scaling, reducing the maximum value, increasing the minimum value, a combination thereof, or a different compression scheme. In some implementations, more than one lowest priority PSI report element may be compressed, for example, two lowest priority PSI report elements may be compressed. In another implementation, the lowest priority PSI report element may be compressed with a first compression level and the second lowest priority PSI report may be compressed with a different compression level. For example, the lowest priority report element may have a higher compression than the second lowest priority PSI report element.
[0119] At block 1040, the UE determines whether the PSI report with one or more compressed PSI report elements fits in a lower layer channel container. For example, if the resulting code rate of the PSI report is below a threshold value, e.g., based on the size of the channel container, then it is determined that the PSI report fits within the container, and the process flow proceeds to block 1060. On the other hand, if the resulting code rate of the PSI report is above a threshold value, e.g., based on the size of the channel container, then the PSI report is not within the container, and the process flow proceeds to block 1050.
[0120] At block 1050, the lowest PSI reporting element is omitted from the PSI report. For example, the PSI reporting elements may be mapped to the channel container according to a predetermined one or more priority rules, where higher priority PSI reporting elements are mapped first, followed by lower priority PSI reporting elements. The lowest priority PSI reporting element is ignored if the resulting code rate of the PSI report is above a threshold, for example, based on the size of the channel container.
[0121] At block 1055, the UE determines whether the PSI report with one or more compressed PSI report elements (and omitting the lowest PSI report element) fits in the lower layer channel container. For example, if the resulting code rate of the PSI report is below a threshold, e.g., based on the size of the channel container, then it is determined that the PSI report fits within the container, and the process flow proceeds to block 1060. On the other hand, if the resulting code rate of the PSI report is above a threshold, e.g., based on the size of the channel container, then the PSI report is not within the container, and the process flow proceeds to block 1030, where the lowest priority PSI report element among the remaining PSI report elements is compressed. The process repeats blocks 1040, 1050, and 1055 until the PSI report fits within the lower layer channel container, and at block 1060, the UE sends the resulting PSI report to the network entity in the lower layer channel container.
[0122] In some implementations, the UE may be configured to compress all PSI report elements, regardless of whether the PSI report elements fit within a lower layer channel container. For example, the UE may use a high level of compression for all PSI report elements, a low level of compression for all PSI report elements, or different compression levels for different types of positioning measurements, for different categories of positioning measurements, or for PSI report elements of different priority levels.
[0123] In some implementations, the UE may be configured to compress the positioning measurement information in the PSI report element based on the positioning method or the type of positioning session for which the positioning measurements were obtained. For example, the UE may use a high compression level for some positioning measurements and a low compression level for other positioning measurements based on the positioning method being performed. For example, for the TDOA positioning method, the information of the RSTD positioning measurement may be compressed at a low compression level, while the information of the RSRP may be compressed at a higher level because the RSTD measurement is more relevant to TDOA than the RSRP measurement. Conversely, for the AoD positioning method, the information of the RSRP positioning measurement may be compressed at a low compression level, while the RSTD information may be compressed at a higher compression level because the RSRP measurement is more relevant to AoD than the RSTD measurement. For the multi-RTT positioning method, the information of the Rx-Tx positioning measurement may be compressed at a low compression level, while the information of the RSRP may be compressed at a higher compression level because the Rx-Tx measurement is more relevant to multi-RTT than the RSRP measurement. For hybrid positioning measurements, multiple types of positioning measurements may be handled similarly. For example, for TDOA and multi-RTT positioning methods, information of Rx-Tx and RSTD positioning measurements may be compressed at a lower compression level, while information of RSRP may be compressed at a higher level because Rx-Tx and RSTD measurements are more relevant to multi-RTT and TDOA than RSRP measurements.
[0124] In addition, if one or more PSI reporting elements include a positioning fix determined by the UE, for example, in a UE-based positioning method, the PSI reporting elements can be compressed by reporting the positioning fix with distance, direction and / or coordinates relative to a reference or serving TRP or base station (which has a known location).
[0125] For example, the UE may report its position using polar coordinates relative to a reference or serving base station. Fig.11A UE 104 and serving base station 102 are shown, where the position fix of UE 104 is provided using polar coordinates. As shown, the position P of UE 104 relative to the position O of serving base station 102 can be reported as the distance p between O and P, the azimuth angle θ relative to a known axis 1102 (e.g., north) and the line segment defined by the projection of point P on the plane (point Q) and point O, and the elevation angle φ between the Z axis and the line segment from point O to P. Thus, the position fix of UE 104 can be provided as the distance p, the azimuth angle θ, and the elevation angle φ relative to the known position of base station 102. In some embodiments, the position fix can be reported as a trigonometric function of the angles θ, φ; for example, cos or sin of the angles or another function, such as cosθ' and sinθ'sinφ'.
[0126] Fig. 11BUE 104 and serving base station 102 are shown, where a position fix of UE 104 is provided using Cartesian coordinates. As shown, the position (x2, y2) of UE 104 can be provided as a difference in x, y (and z) from the known position (x1, y1) of serving base station 102, for example, the position can be (x2-x1, y2-y1). In some implementations, a maximum possible value can be configured to control overhead. For example, the position fix can be compressed by reducing the number of bits used for distance values greater than the maximum value.
[0127] Fig.12 Is in Figure 1 The message flow 1200 of various messages sent between components of the communication system 100 is shown, illustrating reducing overhead by compressing PSI report elements in PSI reports sent on lower layer channels in accordance with the present disclosure. The location server 1202 can be, for example, Figure 1 The location server 172 shown in FIG. 2 or the LMF 270 shown in FIG. 2 . The serving base station 102-1 and other base stations 102-2, 102-3 are sometimes collectively referred to as base stations 102. UE 1204 may be a UE that performs sidelink communication with UE 104. UE 104 may be configured to perform UE-assisted positioning or UE-based positioning using downlink-based positioning, uplink-based positioning, or a combination of downlink and uplink-based positioning. In the message flow 1200, unless otherwise stated, it is assumed that UE 104 and location server 1202 may communicate using lower layer channels and other mechanisms (such as the LMF in the RAN described above) to reduce latency. For example, the location server 1202 may be located within the RAN 1201, for example, as an internal function of a NG-RAN node (e.g., serving base station 102-1), the location server 120 may be a logical node within a split gNB (e.g., serving base station 102-1), or the location server may be a logical node in the NG-RAN 1201 connected to the NG-RAN node (e.g., connected to base station 102-1 and neighboring base stations 102-2 and 102-3 via an interface) so that it can still receive reports from UEs. It should be understood that the location server 1202 may be implemented Fig.12 Preliminary or additional conventional stages not shown in , such as capability request and response, request and provision of assistance data, etc.
[0128] In phase 1, UE 104 may receive a configuration compression of positioning measurement information in a PSI report element. The configuration may be provided by serving base station 102-1, location server 1202, or sidelink UE 1204, for example.
[0129] In phase 2 and phase 3, UE 104 receives DL PRS from serving base station 102-1 and neighboring base stations 102-2 and 102-3.
[0130] In stage 4, UE 104 may selectively send UL PRS or SRS to base station 102 for positioning.
[0131] In stage 5, the UE 104 may perform DL positioning measurements for one or more positioning methods based on the DL PRS received in stages 2 and 3, perform UL positioning measurements for one or several positioning methods based on the UL PRS sent in stage 4, or perform DL and UL positioning measurements for one or more positioning methods based on the DL PRS received in stages 2 and 3 and the UL PRS sent in stage 4. In some embodiments, the UE 104 may perform multiple positioning measurements, for example, performing the same type of positioning measurements at different times and / or performing different types of positioning measurements at the same time or at different times. For example, the positioning information obtained by the UE 104 from the positioning measurements includes one or more timing measurements (such as RSTD, UE Rx Tx, TOA, etc.), angle measurements (such as RSRP), power or energy measurements (such as RSRP), quality metrics, speed and / or trajectory measurements, reference TRP, multipath information, LOS / NLOS factors, SINR, and timestamps. The positioning measurements may be used for one or more positioning methods configured by the UE 104, such as TDOA, AoD, multi-RTT, hybrid positioning methods, etc.
[0132] At stage 6, UE 104 may receive a schedule or grant, for example from serving base station 102-1, for a lower layer container in which a PSI report is to be sent by UE 104.
[0133] In stage 7, UE 104 generates multiple PSI report elements based on the positioning measurements from stage 5. For example, as described above, each PSI report element may include information from the positioning measurements as one or more vectors, which may include, for example, RSTD vector and timestamp, UE Rx Tx vector and timestamp, RSRP vector and timestamp, RSRP vector and timestamp, quality metric vector and timestamp, velocity vector and timestamp, TOA vector and timestamp, multi-radial quantity and timestamp, line-of-sight / non-line-of-sight vector and timestamp, SINR vector and timestamp. UE 104 may sort the PSI report elements, for example, according to a predetermined priority-based rule.
[0134] In stage 8, as described herein, UE 104 may compress one or more PSI report elements, for example, by increasing granularity, linear or logarithmic scaling, reducing maximum values, increasing minimum values, combinations thereof, or different compression schemes. For example, UE 104 may compress all PSI report elements, regardless of whether the PSI report elements fit within a lower layer channel container. In other implementations, UE 104 may determine whether a PSI report fits within a lower layer channel container, and if not, compress one or more PSI report elements. UE 104 may omit one or more PSI report elements, for example, the lowest priority PSI report element, in addition to compressing one or more PSI report elements. For example, once UE 104 determines that a PSI report does not fit within a lower layer channel container, UE 104 may compress one or more PSI report elements, and if the PSI report still does not fit within a lower layer channel container, one or more PSI report elements may be omitted until the PSI report fits within a lower layer channel container. In another example, PSI report elements may be iteratively compressed and omitted until the PSI report fits within a lower layer channel container. For example, once the UE 104 determines that the PSI report does not fit into the lower layer channel container, the UE 104 may compress the PSI report element, and if the PSI report still does not fit into the lower layer channel container, the UE 104 may omit the PSI report element. If the PSI report still does not fit into the PSI report in the lower layer channel container, the UE 104 may iteratively repeat compressing and omitting the PSI report element until the PSI report fits into the lower layer channel container. The PSI report element with a position fix may be compressed by providing a position relative to a known position of a reference or serving base station.
[0135] At stage 9, UE 104 generates a PSI report based on the compressed and remaining PSI report elements. In some implementations, the PSI report may include an indication of whether the PSI report element is compressed or whether the PSI report element is omitted in a first portion having a fixed size. In addition, in instances where UE 104 determines a compression configuration, the PSI report may include a compression configuration, such as a compression type and compression level used by UE 104, for example, in a first portion having a fixed size.
[0136] In stage 10, the UE 104 sends a PSI report in a lower layer channel container, such as on an uplink lower layer (e.g., L1 or L2) channel to a sidelink UE 1204, a serving base station 102, or a location server 1202. For example, the UE 104 may send the PSI report using a PHY layer (e.g., using PUSCH, PUCCH, PSSCH) or at a MAC layer using a MAC-CE block. Transmitting the PSI report on a lower layer channel advantageously reduces latency compared to transmission (e.g., on an RRC channel), while compressing the location measurement information contained in the PSI report reduces overhead.
[0137] In one of stages 11a, 11b, and 11c, the PSI report is processed by the sidelink UE 704, the serving base station 102-1, or the location server 702, respectively, using the compression configuration used, such as provided in stage 1 or received in stage 10. In some implementations, the sidelink UE 704 may forward the PSI report to one of the serving base station 102-1 or the location server 702 for processing.
[0138] According to the disclosure of this article, Fig.13 A flow chart is shown of an example method 1300 for wireless communication by a UE (eg, UE 104) that may be performed by the UE to reduce overhead, for example, by compressing PSI reporting elements in a PSI report sent on a lower layer channel.
[0139] At block 1302, the UE determines a plurality of positioning state information (PSI) reporting elements, wherein each PSI reporting element includes information related to positioning measurements performed by the UE, such as Fig.12 At block 1304, one or more PSI report elements are compressed, e.g., as Figure 6 , 7 , 9, 10, 11A, 11B and Fig.12 At block 1306, a PSI report is generated using a plurality of PSI report elements, wherein one or more of the PSI report elements are compressed, e.g., Fig.12 In block 1308, the PSI report is sent in a lower layer channel container to a network entity, such as another UE, a serving base station, or a location server, such as Fig.12 This is discussed in Stage 10 of the .
[0140] In one embodiment, one or more PSI report elements may be compressed using one or more compression configurations to compress one or more PSI report elements, e.g. Figure 6 and Figure 7For example, one or more compression configurations may include increasing the granularity of information, increasing the minimum value of information, reducing the maximum value of information, applying linear scaling, logarithmic scaling, or a combination thereof, such as Figure 6 and Figure 7 In one example, the UE may receive one or more compression configurations from a network entity to compress one or more PSI report elements, such as Fig.12 The PSI report may be divided into a plurality of parts, wherein at least one part has a constant size and the remaining parts have a variable size, and one or more compression configurations for compressing one or more PSI report elements may be reported to the network entity in at least one part having a constant size, for example, as Figure 5 and Fig.12 In one embodiment, one or more compression configurations may be selected separately for information associated with each type of positioning measurement. In another embodiment, a first compression configuration may be selected for information associated with all timing-based positioning measurements, a second compression configuration may be selected for information associated with all angle-based positioning measurements, and a third compression configuration may be selected for information associated with all power-based positioning measurements (i.e., any energy-based measurements, such as RSRP, SINR, RSSI, etc.). In another embodiment, compression configurations may be selected separately from a set of preconfigured compression configurations with different compression levels.
[0141] In one embodiment, the UE may determine that the size of the multiple PSI reporting elements with the compressed one or more PSI reporting elements is larger than the lower layer channel container, and may omit at least one PSI reporting element from the PSI report so that the remaining PSI reporting elements fit within the lower layer channel container, e.g. Figure 8 , 9 and Fig.12 This is discussed in stage 8.
[0142] In one implementation, the UE may order the PSI report elements according to one or more priority rules, wherein compressing one or more PSI report elements includes compressing the lowest priority PSI report element, e.g. Figure 8 The UE may determine that the size of the multiple PSI reporting units with the compressed lowest priority PSI reporting element is larger than the lower layer channel container, and may omit the lowest priority PSI reporting element from the PSI report so that the remaining PSI reporting elements fit in the lower layer channel container, for example, as Figure 8 and Fig.10 as well as Fig.12For example, the UE may iteratively repeat compressing the lowest priority PSI reporting element in the remaining PSI reporting elements and omitting the lowest priority PSI reporting element from the remaining PSI reporting elements until the remaining PSI reporting elements fit into a position within a lower layer channel container, e.g., as Figure 8 , 10 and Fig.12 as described in Stage 8.
[0143] In one embodiment, compressing one or more PSI report elements may include compressing all PSI report elements.
[0144] In one embodiment, the compression level of information related to each type of positioning measurement may be based on the positioning method performed by the UE.

[0190] Fig.16 A schematic block diagram is shown illustrating certain exemplary features of a network entity 1600 in a wireless network capable of supporting wireless communications with a UE (e.g., UE 104) to reduce the overhead of PSI reports sent on lower layer channels by compressing PSI report elements in accordance with the disclosure herein. For example, the network entity 1600 may be Figure 1 and 2BThe serving base station 102 or location server 172 or LMF 270 in the SL that communicates with the UE, or another UE in the SL. The network entity 1600 may include, for example, one or more processors 1602, a memory 1604, and an external interface (for example, if the network entity 1600 is a serving base station or a sidelink UE), the external interface may include a wireless transceiver 1610 (for example, a wireless network interface), and / or a communication interface 1616 (for example, a wired or wireless network interface to other network entities and / or a core network) that may be operatively coupled to one or more connections 1606 (for example, a bus, line, optical fiber, link, etc.) to a non-transitory computer-readable medium 1620 and the memory 1604. In some embodiments, the network entity 1600 may further include additional items (these items are not shown, such as a user interface, which may include, for example, a display, a keyboard or other input device, such as a virtual keyboard on a display), for example, if the network entity is a sidelink, the UE user may interface with the network entity through the user interface. In certain exemplary embodiments, all or part of the network entity 1600 may take the form of a chipset, etc. The wireless transceiver 1610 (if present) may include, for example, a transmitter 1612 capable of transmitting one or more signals on one or more types of wireless communication networks and a receiver 1614 capable of receiving one or more signals sent on one or more types of wireless communication networks. The communication interface 1616 may be a wired or wireless interface capable of connecting to, for example, a RAN or a network entity (e.g., Figure 1 Other base stations in the location server 172 shown in FIG.
[0191] In some embodiments, the network entity 1600 may include an antenna 1611, which may be internal or external. The antenna 1611 may be used to send and / or receive signals processed by the wireless transceiver 1610. In some embodiments, the antenna 1611 may be coupled to the wireless transceiver 1610. In some embodiments, the measurement of the signal received (sent) by the network entity 1600 may be performed at the connection point of the antenna 1611 and the wireless transceiver 1610. For example, the measurement reference point for receiving (transmitting) RF signal measurement may be the input (output) port of the receiver 1614 (transmitter 1612) and the output (input) port of the antenna 1611. In a network entity 1600 having multiple antennas 1611 or an antenna array, the antenna connector may be considered as a virtual point representing the total output (input) of the multiple antennas. In some embodiments, the network entity 1600 may measure the received signal, (e.g., UL PRS or SRS for positioning) including signal strength and TOA measurements, and the raw measurements may be processed by one or more processors 1602.
[0192] The one or more processors 1602 may be implemented using a combination of hardware, firmware, and software. For example, the one or more processors 1602 may be configured to perform the functions discussed herein by implementing one or more instructions or program codes 1608 on a non-transitory computer-readable medium such as the medium 1620 and / or the memory 1604. In some embodiments, the one or more processors 1602 may represent one or more circuits that may be configured to perform at least a portion of a data signal computation flow or process associated with the operation of the network entity 1600.
[0193] The medium 1620 and / or the memory 1604 may store instructions or program code 1608 containing executable code or software instructions, which, when executed by the one or more processors 1602, cause the one or more processors 1602 to operate as a special purpose computer programmed to perform the techniques disclosed herein. As shown in the network entity 1600, the medium 1620 and / or the memory 1604 may include one or more components or modules that may be implemented by the one or more processors 1602 to perform the methods described herein. Although the components or modules are illustrated as software in the medium 1620 that may be executed by the one or more processors 1602, it should be understood that the components or modules may be stored in the memory 1604 or may be dedicated hardware in or outside of the one or more processors 1602.
[0194] A number of software modules and data tables may reside in the medium 1620 and / or memory 1604 and be utilized by the one or more processors 1602 to manage communications and the functionality described herein. It should be understood that the organization of the contents of the medium 1620 and / or memory 1604 shown in the network entity 1600 is merely exemplary, and thus, depending on the implementation of the network entity 1600, the functionality of the modules and / or data structures may be combined, separated, and / or structured in a different manner.
[0195] For example, if the network entity 1600 is a serving base station, the medium 1620 and / or the memory 1604 may include a UL PRS transmission module 1622, which, when implemented by one or more processors 1602, configures the one or more processors 1602 to receive a UL PRS or SRS for positioning from the UE 164 through the wireless transceiver 1610.
[0196] For example, if the network entity 1600 is a serving base station, the medium 1620 and / or memory 1604 may include a DLPRS module 1624 which, when implemented by the one or more processors 1602 , configures the one or more processors 1602 to send a DL PRS to the UE 164 via the wireless transceiver 1610 .
[0197] For example, if the network entity 1600 is a serving base station, the medium 1620 and / or the memory 1604 may include a scheduling module 1626, which, when implemented by the one or more processors 1602, configures the one or more processors 1602 to schedule a lower layer channel container in which a PSI report is to be sent by the UE 104, and sends the schedule or grant to the UE 104 via a wireless transmitter.
[0198] The medium 1620 and / or the memory 1604 may include a receive PSI report module 1628, which, when implemented by the one or more processors 1602, configures the one or more processors 1602 to perform the following operations: For example, if the network entity 1600 is a sidelink UE or a serving base station, the PSI report in the lower layer channel container is received from the UE 104 through the wireless transceiver 1610, or if the network entity 1600 is a location server, the PSI report in the lower layer channel container is received from the UE 104 through the communication interface 1616. For example, if the network entity 1600 is another UE, the lower layer channel container can be a SL channel, or if the network entity 1600 is a serving base station or a location server, the lower layer channel container can be a UL channel. For example, the PSI report can be received at the PHY layer, for example, using PUSCH, PUCCH, PSSCH, or at the MAC layer using MAC-CE. The PSI report may include information related to the positioning measurements performed by the UE 104, wherein one or more PSI report elements in the PSI report may be compressed based on a compression configuration. For example, the one or more PSI report elements may be compressed by increasing the granularity of the information, increasing the minimum value of the information, reducing the maximum value of the information, applying linear scaling, logarithmic scaling, or a combination thereof. Different types or levels of compression may be used for different types or categories of positioning measurements. In another embodiment, the compression configuration may be selected from a pre-configured set of compression configurations with different compression levels. In addition, one or more PSI report elements may have been omitted from the PSI report. The PSI report may be divided into a plurality of parts, wherein at least one part may have a constant size, and the remaining part may have a variable size, and the remaining PSI report elements, some or all of which may be compressed, are placed in the part of the PSI report having a variable size. The first part having a fixed size may indicate whether the PSI report element is compressed or whether the PSI report element is omitted. In addition, in an instance where the UE determines the compression configuration, a compression configuration such as the type of compression used and the compression level may be included in the first part of the PSI report having a fixed size.
[0199] The medium 1620 and / or the memory 1604 may include a compression configuration module 1630 that, when implemented by the one or more processors 1602, configures the one or more processors 1602 to determine a compression configuration to be used by the UE for sorting the PSI report elements. For example, the compression configuration may be sent to the UE, for example, via the wireless transceiver 1610 or the communication interface 1616. If the UE 104 generates the compression configuration, the one or more processors 1602 may be configured to receive the compression configuration from the UE, for example, in a PSI report. In some embodiments, the compression configuration may be static and stored in the medium 1620 and / or the memory 1604.
