Technical Field
[0003] The following relates generally to wireless communications, and more particularly to resource reselection triggering with beamforming. Background Art
[0004] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content, such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcasting, etc. These systems can support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power). Examples of such multiple access systems include fourth generation (4G) systems, such as long term evolution (LTE) systems, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) systems, or LTE-A Pro systems, and fifth generation (5G) systems (which may be referred to as new radio (NR) systems). These systems may employ techniques such as code division multiple access (CDMA), time division multiple access (TDMA), frequency division multiple access (FDMA), orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA), or discrete Fourier transform spread spectrum orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM). A wireless multiple access communication system may include one or more base stations or one or more network access nodes, each base station or network access node simultaneously supporting communication for multiple communication devices, which may be further referred to as user equipment (UE).
[0005] Some wireless communication systems may support sidelink communications. Sidelink communications may support communications within a group of UEs. For example, sidelink communications may include communications between a UE and other UEs within a coverage area that includes the group of UEs. Sidelink communications may be improved so that the UEs may communicate with high reliability. Summary of the invention
[0006] The described technology relates to improved methods, systems, devices and apparatuses for supporting resource reselection triggering using beamforming. [0048] A wireless communication system may support both access links and sidelinks for communication between one or more communication devices. An access link may refer to a communication link between a user equipment (UE) and a network entity (such as a base station). For example, an access link may support uplink signaling, downlink signaling, a connection process, or a combination thereof. A sidelink may refer to any communication link between similar wireless devices (e.g., a communication link between UEs or a backhaul communication link between base stations). Note that although various examples provided herein are discussed for UE sidelink devices, such sidelink technologies may be used for any type of wireless device using sidelink communication. For example, a sidelink may support one or more of the following: device-to-device (D2D) communication, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) or vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication, message relay, discovery signaling, beacon signaling, or other signals sent from one UE to one or more other UEs over the air.
[0049] Sidelink communication may support communication within a group of UEs. For example, sidelink communication may include communication between a UE and other UEs within a coverage area including the UE group (e.g., a coverage area provided by a base station, a coverage area outside the coverage area provided by a base station, or a combination thereof). One or more UEs in the UE group may initiate sidelink communication with other UEs in the UE group. For example, a UE may have information to be sent to the UE group (e.g., detection of objects or obstacles on the road in a V2X system, scheduling information, etc.), and the UE may initiate sidelink communication including information to other UEs. Other UEs may monitor a sidelink resource pool for sidelink communication. In some examples, the base station may not participate in the sidelink communication because multiple UEs on the sidelink may receive data transmissions from a single UE, or a single UE may receive data transmissions from multiple UEs. In some examples, V2X communication may support two resource allocation modes. In a first mode (e.g., mode 1), resources may be scheduled by a base station, and in a second mode (e.g., mode 2), the UE may perform autonomous resource selection.
[0050] Some wireless communication systems supporting sidelink communications may employ beamforming in order to overcome communication range limitations caused by relatively high path losses associated with frequencies in the system. In some cases, a transmitter of the sidelink communication may perform a resource reselection process. For wireless communication systems operating with transmit beamforming, conditions may be triggered to perform resource reselection when a beam in the wireless communication system changes.
[0051] One or more aspects of the present disclosure provide a wireless communication system supporting V2X transmission, wherein the transmit beam changes due to one or more conditions (such as changing when a time window expires to improve efficiency, etc.). In some cases, a transmitting device (e.g., a UE) may receive a resource allocation for a sidelink channel. For example, a UE may receive an indication of a resource allocation for sidelink communication on a directional beam set. As described herein, a sidelink channel may be associated with an unlicensed spectrum or a licensed spectrum. In some cases, a UE may identify a beam change condition for a directional beam set based on a beam change condition configuration. For example, a UE may identify a resource reselection process trigger that indicates a beam change condition as a trigger for performing a resource reselection process. In one example, a UE may identify a time window associated with a resource allocation for sidelink communication. Additionally or alternatively, a UE may identify a change in the direction of a directional beam set, and may determine whether the change in the direction of the directional beam set meets a threshold based on a metric. Upon identifying the beam changing condition and the beam changing trigger, the UE may perform a resource reselection procedure to update resource allocation for sidelink communication based on the beam changing condition and the beam changing condition configuration.
[0052] UEs capable of sidelink communications can utilize the techniques described herein to experience power savings, such as reduced power consumption and extended battery life, while ensuring reliable and efficient communications within a group of UEs. Certain aspects of the subject matter described in the present disclosure may be implemented to achieve one or more of the following potential advantages. The techniques employed by the described UE may provide benefits and enhancements to the operation of the UE. For example, the operations performed by the UE may provide improvements to wireless operations. In some examples, according to various aspects of the present disclosure, the UE may support high reliability and low latency communications, among other things. Thus, the described techniques may include features for improvements in power consumption, spectral efficiency, higher data rates, and in some examples, may promote enhanced efficiency for high reliability and low latency operations, as well as other benefits.
[0053] Aspects of the present disclosure are initially described in the context of wireless communication systems. Aspects of the present disclosure are further described in the context of additional wireless communication systems and process flows. Aspects of the present disclosure are further illustrated by and described with reference to schematic diagrams and flow charts related to resource reselection triggering with beamforming.
[0054] Figure 1 An example of a wireless communication system 100 supporting resource reselection triggering with beamforming according to various aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. The wireless communication system 100 may include one or more base stations 105, one or more UEs 115, and a core network 130. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may be an LTE network, an LTE-A network, an LTE-A Pro network, or an NR network. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may support enhanced broadband communications, ultra-reliable (i.e., mission-critical) communications, low-latency communications, communications with low-cost and low-complexity devices, or any combination thereof.
[0055] The base stations 105 may be dispersed throughout a geographic area to form the wireless communication system 100, and may be devices of different forms or capabilities. The base stations 105 and the UEs 115 may communicate wirelessly via one or more communication links 125. Each base station 105 may provide a coverage area 110 over which the UEs 115 and the base stations 105 may establish one or more communication links 125. The coverage area 110 may be an example of a geographic area over which the base stations 105 and the UEs 115 may support communication of signals according to one or more radio access technologies.
[0056] The UEs 115 may be dispersed throughout the coverage area 110 of the wireless communication system 100, and each UE 115 may be stationary, mobile, or both at different times. The UEs 115 may be different forms of devices or devices with different capabilities. Figure 1 Some example UEs 115 are illustrated in FIG. 1 . The UEs 115 described herein can communicate with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115, base stations 105, or network devices (e.g., core network nodes, relay devices, integrated access and backhaul (IAB) nodes, or other network devices), such as Figure 1 shown.
[0057] Base stations 105 may communicate with core network 130, or with each other, or both. For example, base stations 105 may interface with core network 130 via one or more backhaul links 120 (e.g., via S1, N2, N3, or other interfaces). Base stations 105 may communicate with each other on backhaul links 120 (e.g., via X2, Xn, or other interfaces) either directly (e.g., directly between base stations 105), or indirectly (e.g., via core network 130), or both. In some examples, backhaul links 120 may be or may include one or more wireless links.
[0058] The one or more base stations 105 described herein may include or may be referred to by a person of ordinary skill in the art as a base transceiver station, a radio base station, an access point, a radio transceiver, a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB), a next generation NodeB or a giga NodeB (any of which may be referred to as a gNB), a Home NodeB, a Home eNodeB, or other suitable terminology.
[0059] UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable term, where a "device" may also be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, etc. UE 115 may also include or may be referred to as a personal electronic device, such as a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a tablet computer, a laptop computer, or a personal computer. In some examples, UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a wireless local loop (WLL) station, an Internet of Things (IoT) device, an Internet of Everything (IoE) device, or a machine type communication (MTC) device, etc., which may be implemented in various objects such as appliances or vehicles, meters, etc.
[0060] The UE 115 described herein is capable of communicating with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115 that may sometimes act as relays, as well as base stations 105 and network devices, including macro eNBs or gNBs, small cell eNBs or gNBs, or relay base stations, etc. Figure 1 shown.
[0061] The UE 115 and the base station 105 can communicate with each other wirelessly via one or more communication links 125 on one or more carriers. The term "carrier" may refer to a set of radio spectrum resources having a defined physical layer structure for supporting the communication link 125. For example, a carrier for the communication link 125 may include a portion (e.g., bandwidth portion (BWP)) of a radio spectrum band operating according to one or more physical layer channels for a given radio access technology (e.g., LTE, LTE-A, LTE-A Pro, NR). Each physical layer channel may carry acquisition signaling (e.g., synchronization signals, system information), control signaling for coordinating carrier operations, user data, or other signaling. The wireless communication system 100 may support communication with the UE 115 using carrier aggregation or multi-carrier operation. The UE 115 may be configured with multiple downlink component carriers and one or more uplink component carriers according to the carrier aggregation configuration. Carrier aggregation may be used with frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD) component carriers.
[0062] In some examples (e.g., in a carrier aggregation configuration), a carrier may also have acquisition signaling or control signaling to coordinate operations for other carriers. A carrier may be associated with a frequency channel (e.g., an Evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunications System Terrestrial Radio Access (E-UTRA) Absolute Radio Frequency Channel Number (EARFCN)) and may be located according to a channel raster for discovery by a UE 115. A carrier may operate in a standalone mode, where a UE 115 may perform initial acquisition and connection via the carrier, or the carrier may operate in a non-standalone mode, where a different carrier (e.g., of the same or different radio access technology) is used to anchor the connection.
[0063] The communication link 125 shown in the wireless communication system 100 may include an uplink transmission from the UE 115 to the base station 105, or a downlink transmission from the base station 105 to the UE 115. A carrier may carry downlink or uplink communications (e.g., in FDD mode), or may be configured to carry both downlink and uplink communications (e.g., in TDD mode).
[0064] A carrier may be associated with a particular bandwidth of a radio frequency spectrum, and in some examples, the carrier bandwidth may be referred to as a "system bandwidth" of a carrier or wireless communication system 100. For example, a carrier bandwidth may be one of a plurality of determined bandwidths (e.g., 1.4, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 40, or 80 megahertz (MHz)) of a carrier for a particular radio access technology. A device (e.g., a base station 105, a UE 115, or both) of the wireless communication system 100 may have a hardware configuration that supports communication on a particular carrier bandwidth, or may be configured to support communication on one of a set of carrier bandwidths. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may include a base station 105 or a UE 115 that supports simultaneous communication via carriers associated with a plurality of carrier bandwidths. In some examples, each served UE 115 may be configured to operate on a portion (e.g., a subband, a BWP) or all of a carrier bandwidth.
[0065] The signal waveform transmitted on the carrier may be composed of multiple subcarriers (e.g., using multi-carrier modulation (MCM) techniques, such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or DFT-S-OFDM). In a system employing MCM techniques, a resource element may be composed of one symbol period (e.g., the duration of one modulation symbol) and one subcarrier, where the symbol period and the subcarrier spacing are inversely related. The number of bits carried by each resource element may depend on the modulation scheme (e.g., the order of the modulation scheme, the coding rate of the modulation scheme, or both). Therefore, the more resource elements received by UE 115 and the higher the order of the modulation scheme, the higher the data rate for UE 115 may be. Wireless communication resources may refer to a combination of radio spectrum resources, time resources, and spatial resources (e.g., spatial layers or beams), and the use of multiple spatial layers may further improve the data rate or data integrity of communications with UE 115.
[0066] One or more digital schemes for a carrier may be supported, where the digital scheme may include a subcarrier spacing (Δf) and a cyclic prefix. A carrier may be divided into one or more BWPs with the same or different digital schemes. In some examples, a UE 115 may be configured with multiple BWPs. In some examples, a single BWP of a carrier may be active at a given time, and communications of a UE 115 may be restricted to the one or more active BWPs.
[0067] The time interval of the base station 105 or the UE 115 may be expressed as a multiple of a basic time unit, which may be, for example, T s =1 / (Δf max ·N f ) seconds sampling period, where Δf maxIt can represent the maximum subcarrier spacing supported, and N f The maximum supported discrete Fourier transform (DFT) size may be indicated. The time intervals of the communication resources may be organized according to radio frames, each having a specified duration (e.g., 10 milliseconds (ms)). Each radio frame may be identified by a system frame number (SFN) (e.g., ranging from 0 to 1023).
[0068] Each frame may include a plurality of consecutively numbered subframes or time slots, and each subframe or time slot may have the same duration. In some examples, a frame may be divided into (e.g., in the time domain) subframes, and each subframe may be further divided into a number of time slots. Alternatively, each frame may include a variable number of time slots, and the number of time slots may depend on the subcarrier spacing. Each time slot may include a number of symbol periods (e.g., depending on the length of the cyclic prefix preceding each symbol period). In some wireless communication systems 100, a time slot may be further divided into a plurality of small time slots containing one or more symbols. In addition to the cyclic prefix, each symbol period may contain one or more (e.g., N f The duration of a symbol period may depend on the subcarrier spacing or the operating frequency band.
[0069] A subframe, a time slot, a mini-slot, or a symbol may be the smallest scheduling unit (e.g., in the time domain) of the wireless communication system 100 and may be referred to as a transmission time interval (TTI). In some cases, the TTI duration (e.g., the number of symbol periods in a TTI) may be variable. Additionally or alternatively, the smallest scheduling unit of the wireless communication system 100 may be dynamically selected (e.g., in a burst of a shortened TTI (sTTI)).
[0070] Physical channels may be multiplexed on a carrier according to various techniques. Physical control channels and physical data channels may be multiplexed on a downlink carrier, for example, using one or more of a time division multiplexing (TDM) technique, a frequency division multiplexing (FDM) technique, or a hybrid TDM-FDM technique. A control region (e.g., a control resource set (CORESET)) of a physical control channel may be defined by a number of symbol periods and may be extended over a system bandwidth or a subset of a system bandwidth of a carrier. One or more control regions (e.g., CORESETs) may be configured for a set of UEs 115. For example, one or more of the UEs 115 may monitor or search a control region for control information according to one or more search space sets, and each search space set may include one or more control channel candidates in one or more aggregation levels arranged in a cascaded manner. The aggregation level for a control channel candidate may refer to the number of control channel resources (e.g., control channel elements (CCEs)) associated with coding information for a control information format having a given payload size. The search space sets may include a common search space set configured for transmitting control information to a plurality of UEs 115 and a UE-specific search space set for transmitting control information to a specific UE 115 .
[0071] Each base station 105 may provide communication coverage via one or more cells (e.g., macro cells, small cells, hot spots, or other types of cells, or any combination thereof). The term "cell" may refer to a logical communication entity used to communicate with the base station 105 (e.g., via a carrier), and may be associated with an identifier (e.g., a physical cell identifier (PCID), a virtual cell identifier (VCID), or other identifier) used to distinguish adjacent cells. In some examples, a cell may also refer to a geographic coverage area 110 or a portion of a geographic coverage area 110 (e.g., a sector) on which a logical communication entity operates. Depending on various factors such as the capabilities of the base station 105, these cells may range from smaller areas (e.g., structures, subsets of structures) to larger areas. For example, a cell may be or may include a building, a subset of a building, an external space between geographic coverage areas 110, or an external space overlapping with geographic coverage areas 110, and the like.
[0072] A macro cell typically covers a relatively large geographic area (e.g., a radius of several kilometers) and may allow unrestricted access to a UE 115 with a service subscription to a network provider that supports the macro cell. A small cell may be associated with a lower power base station 105 than a macro cell, and the small cell may operate in the same or different (e.g., licensed, unlicensed) frequency band as the macro cell. A small cell may provide unrestricted access to a UE 115 with a service subscription to a network provider, or may provide restricted access to a UE 115 associated with a small cell (e.g., a UE 115 in a closed subscriber group (CSG), a UE 115 associated with a user in a home or office). A base station 105 may support one or more cells, and may also support communication on one or more cells using one or more component carriers.
[0073] In some examples, a carrier may support multiple cells, and different cells may be configured according to different protocol types (e.g., MTC, narrowband IoT (NB-IoT), enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB)) that may provide access to different types of devices.
[0074] In some examples, base stations 105 may be mobile and, therefore, provide communication coverage for mobile geographic coverage areas 110. In some examples, different geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas 110 may be supported by the same base station 105. In other examples, overlapping geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may be supported by different base stations 105. The wireless communication system 100 may include, for example, a heterogeneous network in which different types of base stations 105 provide coverage for various geographic coverage areas 110 using the same or different radio access technologies.
[0075] The wireless communication system 100 may support synchronous or asynchronous operation. For synchronous operation, the base stations 105 may have similar frame timing, and transmissions from different base stations 105 may be approximately aligned in time. For asynchronous operation, the base stations 105 may have different frame timing, and in some examples, transmissions from different base stations 105 may not be aligned in time. The techniques described herein may be used for synchronous or asynchronous operation.
[0076] Some UEs 115, such as MTC or IoT devices, may be low-cost or low-complexity devices and may provide automated communication between machines (e.g., via machine-to-machine (M2M) communication). M2M communication or MTC may refer to data communication technology that allows devices to communicate with each other or with a base station 105 without human intervention. In some examples, M2M communication or MTC may include communications from devices that integrate sensors or meters to measure or capture information and relay such information to a central server or application that utilizes the information or presents the information to a person interacting with the application. Some UEs 115 may be designed to collect information or implement automated behavior of machines or other devices. Examples of applications for MTC devices include smart metering, inventory monitoring, water level monitoring, equipment monitoring, healthcare monitoring, wildlife monitoring, weather and geological event monitoring, fleet management and tracking, remote security sensing, physical access control, and transaction-based commercial charging.
[0077] Some UEs 115 may be configured to employ a reduced power consumption mode of operation, such as half-duplex communication (e.g., a mode supporting unidirectional communication via transmission or reception but not simultaneous transmission and reception). In some examples, half-duplex communication may be performed at a reduced peak rate. Other power saving techniques for UE 115 include entering a power saving deep sleep mode when not engaged in active communications, operating over a limited bandwidth (e.g., according to narrowband communications), or a combination of these techniques. For example, some UEs 115 may be configured to operate using a narrowband protocol type associated with a defined portion or range (e.g., a set of subcarriers or resource blocks (RBs)) within a carrier, within a guard band of a carrier, or outside a carrier.
[0078] The wireless communication system 100 can be configured to support ultra-reliable communication or low-latency communication or various combinations thereof. For example, the wireless communication system 100 can be configured to support ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) or mission-critical communication. UE115 can be designed to support ultra-reliable, low-latency or critical functions (e.g., mission-critical functions). Ultra-reliable communication can include private communication or group communication, and can be supported by one or more mission-critical services such as mission-critical push-to-talk (MCPTT), mission-critical video (MCVideo), or mission-critical data (MCData). Support for mission-critical functions can include service prioritization, and mission-critical services can be used for public safety or general commercial applications. The terms ultra-reliable, low-latency, mission-critical, and ultra-reliable low-latency are used interchangeably herein.
[0079] In some examples, the UE 115 is also able to communicate directly with other UEs 115 via a D2D communication link 135 (e.g., using a peer-to-peer (P2P) or D2D protocol). One or more UEs 115 utilizing D2D communication may be within a geographic coverage area 110 of a base station 105. Other UEs 115 in such a group may be outside the geographic coverage area 110 of the base station 105, or may not be able to receive transmissions from the base station 105 for other reasons. In some examples, the group of UEs 115 communicating via D2D communication may utilize a one-to-many (1:M) system, in which each UE 115 transmits to each other UE 115 in the group. In some examples, the base station 105 facilitates the scheduling of resources for D2D communication. In other cases, D2D communication is performed between UEs 115 without involving the base station 105.
[0080] In some systems, the D2D communication link 135 can be an example of a communication channel (e.g., a sidelink communication channel) between vehicles (e.g., UE 115). In some examples, vehicles can communicate using V2X communication, V2V communication, or some combination of these. Vehicles can signal information related to traffic conditions, signal scheduling, weather, safety, emergency situations, or any other information related to the V2X system. In some examples, vehicles in a V2X system can communicate with roadside infrastructure (e.g., roadside units), or communicate with a network via one or more network nodes (e.g., base station 105) using vehicle-to-network (V2N) communication, or both.
[0081] The core network 130 may provide user authentication, access authorization, tracking, Internet Protocol (IP) connection and other access, routing or mobility functions. The core network 130 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) or a 5G core (5GC), which may include: at least one control plane entity (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME), an access and mobility management function (AMF)) for managing access and mobility, and at least one user plane entity (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW), a packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW), or a user plane function (UPF)) for routing packets or interconnecting to an external network. The control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication and bearer management for UE 115 served by a base station 105 associated with the core network 130. User IP packets may be delivered through a user plane entity, which may provide IP address allocation and other functions. The user plane entity may be connected to a network operator IP service 150. The operator IP service 150 may include access to the Internet, an intranet, an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) or a packet-switched streaming service.
[0082] Some network devices (e.g., base stations 105) may include subcomponents, such as access network entities 140, which may be examples of access node controllers (ANCs). Each access network entity 140 may communicate with UE 115 through one or more other access network transport entities 145, which may be referred to as radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmit / receive points (TRPs). Each access network transport entity 145 may include one or more antenna panels. In some configurations, the various functions of each access network entity 140 or base station 105 may be distributed across various network devices (e.g., radio heads and ANCs), or merged into a single network device (e.g., base station 105).
[0083] The wireless communication system 100 may operate using one or more frequency bands, which are typically in the range of 300 megahertz (MHz) to 300 gigahertz (GHz). Typically, the region from 300 MHz to 3 GHz is referred to as the ultra-high frequency (UHF) region or decimeter band, because the length of the wavelength ranges from about 1 decimeter to 1 meter. Buildings and environmental features may block or redirect UHF waves, but these waves may be sufficient to penetrate the structure to allow a macro cell to provide service to a UE 115 located indoors. Transmission of UHF waves may be associated with smaller antennas and a shorter range (e.g., less than 100 kilometers) than transmission of smaller frequencies and longer waves using the high frequency (HF) or very high frequency (VHF) portion of the spectrum below 300 MHz.
[0084] The wireless communication system 100 may also operate in a super high frequency (SHF) region (also known as a centimeter band) using a frequency band from 3 GHz to 30 GHz, or in an extremely high frequency (EHF) region of the spectrum (e.g., from 30 GHz to 300 GHz) (also known as a millimeter band). In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may support millimeter wave (mmW) communications between the UE 115 and the base station 105, and the EHF antennas of the corresponding devices may be smaller and more closely spaced than UHF antennas. In some examples, this may facilitate the use of antenna arrays within the device. However, the propagation of EHF transmissions may be subject to even greater atmospheric attenuation and shorter distances than SHF or UHF transmissions. The technology disclosed herein may be used across transmissions using one or more different frequency regions, and the designated use of frequency bands across these frequency regions may vary from country to country or regulatory agency.
[0085] The wireless communication system 100 can utilize both licensed and unlicensed radio spectrum bands. For example, the wireless communication system 100 can employ license assisted access (LAA), unlicensed LTE (LTE-U) radio access technology, or NR technology in an unlicensed band such as the 5 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band. When operating in an unlicensed radio spectrum band, devices such as base stations 105 and UEs 115 can employ carrier sensing for conflict detection and avoidance. In some examples, operations in an unlicensed band can be based on a carrier aggregation configuration (e.g., LAA) in conjunction with component carriers operating in a licensed band. Operations in an unlicensed spectrum can include downlink transmissions, uplink transmissions, P2P transmissions, or D2D transmissions, and the like.
[0086] The base station 105 or UE 115 may be equipped with multiple antennas, which may be used to employ technologies such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, or beamforming. The antennas of the base station 105 or UE 115 may be located within one or more antenna arrays or antenna panels, which may support MIMO operations or transmit beamforming or receive beamforming. For example, one or more base station antennas or antenna arrays may be co-located at an antenna assembly, such as an antenna tower. In some examples, the antennas or antenna arrays associated with the base station 105 may be located at different geographic locations. The base station 105 may have an antenna array having multiple rows and columns of antenna ports that the base station 105 may use to support beamforming for communications with the UE 115. Similarly, the UE 115 may have one or more antenna arrays that may support various MIMO or beamforming operations. Additionally or alternatively, the antenna panel may support radio frequency beamforming for signals sent via the antenna ports.
[0087] Base station 105 or UE 115 can use MIMO communication to take advantage of multipath signal propagation and improve spectral efficiency by sending or receiving multiple signals via different spatial layers. Such a technology may be referred to as spatial multiplexing. For example, multiple signals may be sent by a transmitting device via different antennas or different antenna combinations. Similarly, multiple signals may be received by a receiving device via different antennas or different antenna combinations. Each of the multiple signals may be referred to as a separate spatial stream and may carry bits associated with the same data stream (e.g., the same codeword) or different data streams (e.g., different codewords). Different spatial layers may be associated with different antenna ports for channel measurement and reporting. MIMO technology includes single-user MIMO (SU-MIMO) and multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO), in which multiple spatial layers are sent to the same receiving device and in which multiple spatial layers are sent to multiple devices.
[0088] Beamforming (which may also be referred to as spatial filtering, directional transmission, or directional reception) is a signal processing technique that may be used at a transmitting device or a receiving device (e.g., a base station 105, a UE 115) to shape or direct an antenna beam (e.g., a transmit beam, a receive beam) along a spatial path between the transmitting device and the receiving device. Beamforming may be achieved by combining signals transmitted via antenna elements of an antenna array so that signals propagating in a particular direction relative to the antenna array experience constructive interference, while other signals experience destructive interference. Adjustments to signals transmitted via antenna elements may include the transmitting device or the receiving device applying an amplitude offset, a phase offset, or both to signals carried via antenna elements associated with the device. Adjustments associated with each antenna element may be defined by a set of beamforming weights associated with a particular direction (e.g., relative to the antenna array of the transmitting device or the receiving device, or relative to some other direction).
[0089] The base station 105 or the UE 115 may use beam scanning techniques as part of a beamforming operation. For example, the base station 105 may use multiple antennas or antenna arrays (e.g., antenna panels) to perform beamforming operations for directional communication with the UE 115. Some signals (e.g., synchronization signals, reference signals, beam selection signals, or other control signals) may be sent multiple times by the base station 105 in different directions. For example, the base station 105 may send signals based on different sets of beamforming weights associated with different transmission directions. Transmissions in different beam directions may be used to identify the beam direction (e.g., by a transmitting device such as the base station 105 or by a receiving device such as the UE 115) for subsequent transmission or reception by the base station 105.
[0090] Base station 105 may transmit some signals (such as data signals associated with a particular receiving device) in a single beam direction (e.g., a direction associated with a receiving device such as UE 115). In some examples, the beam direction associated with transmissions along the single beam direction may be determined based on signals transmitted in one or more beam directions. For example, UE 115 may receive one or more of the signals transmitted by base station 105 in different directions and may report to base station 105 an indication of the signal received by UE 115 with the highest signal quality or otherwise acceptable signal quality.
[0091] In some examples, transmissions by a device (e.g., a base station 105 or a UE 115) may be performed using multiple beam directions, and the device may generate a combined beam for transmission (e.g., from the base station 105 to the UE 115) using a combination of digital precoding or radio frequency beamforming. The UE 115 may report feedback indicating precoding weights for one or more beam directions, and the feedback may correspond to a configured number of beams across the system bandwidth or across one or more subbands. The base station 105 may send a reference signal (e.g., a cell-specific reference signal (CRS), a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS)), which may be precoded or unprecoded. The UE 115 may provide feedback for beam selection, which may be a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) or codebook-based feedback (e.g., a multi-panel type codebook, a linear combination type codebook, a port selection type codebook). Although these techniques are described with reference to signals sent by base station 105 in one or more directions, UE 115 may employ similar techniques to send signals multiple times in different directions (e.g., for identifying a beam direction for subsequent transmission or reception by UE 115) or to send signals in a single direction (e.g., for sending data to a receiving device).
[0092] A receiving device (e.g., UE 115) may try multiple reception configurations (e.g., directional listening) when receiving various signals such as synchronization signals, reference signals, beam selection signals, or other control signals from a base station 105. For example, a receiving device may try multiple reception directions by receiving via different antenna subarrays, by processing received signals according to different antenna subarrays, by receiving according to different receive beamforming weight sets (e.g., different directional listening weight sets) applied to signals received at multiple antenna elements of an antenna array, or by processing received signals according to different receive beamforming weight sets applied to signals received at multiple antenna elements of an antenna array, any of which may be referred to as "listening" according to different reception configurations or reception directions. In some examples, a receiving device may use a single reception configuration to receive along a single beam direction (e.g., when receiving a data signal). The single reception configuration may be aligned in a beam direction determined based on listening according to different reception configuration directions (e.g., a beam direction determined to have the highest signal strength, the highest signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), or otherwise acceptable signal quality based on listening according to multiple beam directions).
[0093] The wireless communication system 100 can be a packet-based network operated according to a layered protocol stack. In the user plane, the communication at the bearer or packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer can be based on IP. The radio link control (RLC) layer can perform packet segmentation and reorganization to communicate through logical channels. The medium access control (MAC) layer can perform priority processing and multiplex logical channels into transport channels. The MAC layer can also use error detection technology, error correction technology or both to support retransmission at the MAC layer to improve link efficiency. In the control plane, the radio resource control (RRC) protocol layer can provide the establishment, configuration and maintenance of the RRC connection supporting the radio bearer for user plane data between UE 115 and base station 105 or core network 130. At the physical layer, the transport channel can be mapped to the physical channel.
[0094] UE 115 and base station 105 can support retransmission of data to increase the possibility of successfully receiving data. Hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback is a technology for increasing the possibility of correctly receiving data through communication link 125. HARQ can include a combination of error detection (e.g., using cyclic redundancy check (CRC)), forward error correction (FEC) and retransmission (e.g., automatic repeat request (ARQ)). HARQ can improve the throughput at the MAC layer under poor radio conditions (e.g., low signal-to-noise ratio conditions). In some examples, the device can support simultaneous slot HARQ feedback, wherein the device can provide HARQ feedback for data received in previous symbols in a particular time slot in the time slot. In other cases, the device can provide HARQ feedback in subsequent time slots or according to some other time interval.
[0095] Some wireless communication systems may support both access links and sidelinks for communication between one or more communication devices. An access link may refer to a communication link between a UE 115 and a base station 105. A sidelink may refer to any communication link between similar wireless devices (e.g., a communication link between UEs 115 or a backhaul communication link between base stations 105). In some examples, certain wireless communication systems may support two modes for resource allocation. In mode 1, a base station 105 may allocate resources to a UE 115 participating in sidelink communication. In mode 2, a UE 115 may perform autonomous resource selection. In some cases, a UE 115 participating in sidelink communication may perform a transmission resource reselection process. In a wireless communication system supporting V2X transmission, one or more conditions for triggering resource reselection may be defined. A wireless communication system may typically employ transmit beamforming to efficiently send and receive information. It may be desirable to introduce trigger conditions for resource reselection when a beam changes in a wireless communication system. Reselecting resources when determining a transmit beam change may result in high reliability and low latency.
[0096] According to one or more aspects of the present disclosure, the wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support resource reselection associated with beamforming. UE 115 may receive an indication of resource allocation for sidelink communication on a set of directional beams. In some examples, UE 115 may perform sidelink communication using at least one transmit beam. UE 115 may identify a beam change condition for a set of directional beams based on a beam change condition configuration. In some examples, the beam change condition configuration may be based on the ability of UE 115 to support beam changes. According to some examples, UE 115 may perform a resource reselection process to update resource allocation for sidelink communication based on the beam change condition and the beam change condition configuration.
[0097] Figure 2 An example of a wireless communication system 200 supporting resource reselection triggering with beamforming according to various aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the wireless communication system 200 can implement various aspects of the wireless communication system 100. The wireless communication system 200 includes a base station 105-a, a geographic coverage area 110-a, and one or more UEs 115. In some cases, the wireless communication system 200 may utilize control signaling including authorization to schedule resources for UE 115 to perform sidelink communications. In addition or alternatively, the UE 115 in the wireless communication system 200 may utilize shared information to enhance scheduling, inter-UE coordination, and communication flexibility. In some examples, a group of UEs 115 (e.g., UE 115-a and UE 115-b) can communicate with each other (e.g., within a V2X system, a D2D system, etc.), and sidelink transmissions can be used to save power, reduce latency, and ensure reliable communication. In some examples, vehicles can communicate using various V2X resource allocation modes. As described in more detail below, UE 115-a and UE 115-b can identify beam change conditions and can perform a resource reselection process to update resource allocation for sidelink communication based on the beam change conditions and the beam change condition configuration.
[0098] The wireless communication system 200 can support both access links and sidelinks for communication between one or more communication devices. The access link can refer to a communication link between a UE 115 (such as a UE 115-a or a UE 115-b) and a base station 105-a. A sidelink can refer to any communication link between similar wireless devices (e.g., a communication link between UEs 115 or a backhaul communication link between base stations 105). Note that although various examples provided herein are discussed for UE sidelink devices, such sidelink technologies can be used for any type of wireless device using sidelink communication. For example, a sidelink can support one or more of the following: D2D communication, V2X or V2V communication, message relay, discovery signaling, beacon signaling, or other signals sent from one UE 115 to one or more other UEs 115 over the air. In some examples, a base station 105 (such as a base station 105-a) can include one or more panels and / or multiple transmission and / or reception points. Additionally or alternatively, one or more UEs 115 (eg, UE 115-a and UE 115-b) may include one or more panels or subarrays for performing wireless communications.
[0099] Base station 105-a may communicate with one or more UEs 115 (e.g., UEs 115-a and 115-b) that may be included in UE group 210. For example, base station 105-a may send control information to UE 115-a or UE 115-b. Figure 2 As shown in the example of , UE 115-a and UE 115-b can communicate with each other (or with another group of UEs 115) via sidelink communications (e.g., using a P2P or D2D protocol). In some cases, UE 115-a can send a sidelink transmission to UE 115-b. In some examples, UE 115-a or UE 115-b can monitor a resource pool for sidelink communications from other UEs 115 in the group or indications of sidelink communications (e.g., resource reservations, control channel transmissions, etc.). Additionally or alternatively, UE 115 can have data to be sent to (or received from) one or more UEs 115 in the group, and the data can be sent using sidelink communications. In some examples, the group of UEs 115 can utilize a sidelink in addition to an access link with base station 105-a.
[0100] In some examples, sidelink communications may support communications within a group of UEs 115 (e.g., UE group 210). For example, sidelink communications may include communications between a UE 115 (such as UE 115-a or UE 115-b) and other UEs 115 within a coverage area (e.g., a coverage area provided by a base station 105, a coverage area outside of a coverage area provided by a base station 105, or a combination thereof) that includes the group of UEs 115. One or more UEs 115 in the group of UEs 115 may initiate sidelink communications with other UEs 115 in the group of UEs 115. For example, one or more UEs 115 may be within a coverage area 110-a (e.g., referenced to FIG. 1 ) of a base station 105-a. Figure 1 In such an example, the UE 115 may communicate with the base station 105-a via a Uu interface (e.g., the base station 105-a may send downlink communications to one or more UEs 115 via an access link). In some other examples, the group of UEs 115 may not be within the coverage area or may not communicate with the base station 105-a using an access link.
[0101] In some cases, UE 115 (e.g., UE 115-a and UE 115-b) may have information to send to the group of UEs 115 (e.g., detection of objects or obstacles on the road in the V2X system, scheduling information, etc.), and UE 115 may initiate sidelink communications that include information to other UEs 115. In such cases, the UE 115 that initiates the sidelink communication may be referred to as a transmitting UE 115, and the UE 115 that receives the sidelink communication may be referred to as a receiving UE 115. In some examples, base station 105-a may configure sidelink communication resources for the group of UEs 115 using a configuration message (e.g., a semi-persistent scheduling configuration message). In one example, base station 105-a may send control signaling 215 indicating resource allocation for one or more UEs 115 included in the group of UEs 115. Additionally or alternatively, the base station 105 - a may send control signaling 215 indicating resource allocations for sidelink communications on a set of directional beams (eg, beams 220 , 225 , etc.).
[0102] In some wireless communication systems, a UE 115 from the group of UEs 115 may be allowed to select sidelink transmission resources. In some examples, NR V2X communication may support two resource allocation modes: Mode 1 (in which resources are scheduled by the base station) and Mode 2 (in which the UE 115 performs autonomous resource selection). In the wireless communication system 200, a transmitter (e.g., a base station 105-a) and a receiver (e.g., a UE 115-a) may perform beam management operations. Additionally or alternatively, a UE 115 within the UE group 210 may perform sidelink communications using one or more directional beams. In some examples, a transmitter (e.g., a base station 105-a or a UE 115-a) may engage in a beam scanning operation to establish an active transmit beam with a receiver (e.g., a UE 115-b), or engage in a beam tracking operation to maintain a connection with a receiver (e.g., a UE 115-b).
[0103] In some examples, the wireless communication system 200 may operate in the mmW frequency range. Such a frequency range may be associated with beamforming transmissions between the base station 105-a and the UE 115. Additionally, sidelink communications between the UE 115-a and the UE 115-b may be performed using beamforming transmissions. For example, the wireless communication system 200 may use signal processing techniques such as beamforming to coherently combine energy and overcome path loss.
[0104] like Figure 2As described in the example of , UE 115-a may include multiple antennas. In some cases, each antenna may send a phase-shifted version of a signal so that the phase-shifted versions interfere constructively in some areas and destructively in other areas. In some cases, weights may be applied to various phase-shifted versions (e.g., to direct the transmission in a desired direction). Such techniques may be used to increase the strength of a signal sent by UE 115-a or otherwise benefit the wireless communication system 200. Transmit beams 220-a, 220-b, 225-a, and 225-b represent examples of beams on which information may be sent. In some cases, transmit beams 220-a, 220-b, 225-a, and 225-b may also be referred to as transmitter beams. According to one or more aspects of the present disclosure, each transmit beam (e.g., transmit beams 220-a, 220-b, 225-a, and 225-b) can be directed from UE 115-a to a different area of coverage area 110-a, and in some cases, two or more beams (e.g., transmit beams 220-a, 220-b, 225-a, and 225-b) can overlap. Transmit beams 220-a, 220-b, 225-a, and 225-b can be transmitted simultaneously or at different times. In either case, UE 115-b can be able to receive one or more of transmit beams 220-a, 220-b, 225-a, and 225-b via corresponding receive beams 230-a and 230-b. In some examples, receive beams 230-a and 230-b can also be referred to as receiver beams. According to one example, UE 115-b may use receiver beams 230-a and 230-b to measure one or more of transmitter beams 220-a, 220-b, 225-a, and 225-b.
[0105] In one example, UE 115-b can form one or more receive beams 230-a, 230-b (which can also be referred to as receiver beams). Similar to UE 115-a, UE 115-b can also include multiple antennas. Receiver beams 230-a and 230-b can each correspond to one of transmitter beams 220-a, 220-b, 225-a, and 225-b (for example, UE 115-b can be located within the wireless communication system 200 so that UE 115-b receives the beamformed transmit beam). In some cases, UE 115-b can receive a subset of transmit beams 220-a, 220-b, 225-a, and 225-b. In some cases, UE 115-b can receive a single transmit beam (for example, using a receive beam) (for example, one of transmit beams 220-a, 220-b, 225-a, and 225-b). In some examples, UE 115-b can receive one or more transmit beams that include various path losses and multipath effects. That is, each antenna of UE 115-b can receive a transmit beam that has experienced different path losses or phase shifts (for example, the different phase shifts may be due to different path lengths between the corresponding antennas of UE 115-a and UE 115-b), and appropriately combine the received signals represented by the receive beams. In some examples, UE 115-a can participate in a beam scanning operation to establish an active transmit beam with UE 115-b. In some examples, UE 115-a can also participate in a beam tracking process to maintain a connection with UE 115-b. In some examples, UE 115-a and UE 115-b can perform beam management operations, which may include beam selection (including beam scanning and beam tracking), beam refinement, beam establishment, or a combination thereof. Additionally or alternatively, UE 115 (e.g., UE 115-a and UE 115-b) may participate in beam management operations with base station 105-a.
[0106] In some examples, UE 115-a may perform transmission resource reselection when communicating with UE 115-b. In some cases, UE 115-a may perform resource reselection if one or more conditions are triggered. That is, the condition list may trigger resource selection or reselection by transmitter UE 115 performing sidelink communication. In some examples, the condition list may include: determining that the resource pool is configured or reconfigured by an upper layer, determining that there is no configured sidelink grant to be used by transmitter UE 115, determining that the MAC entity has neither performed a transmission nor a retransmission on any resource indicated in a configured sidelink grant during a previous time period (e.g., the last second), or any combination thereof.
[0107] According to one or more aspects, a transmitter UE 115 (e.g., UE 115-a) may identify various parameters (e.g., sl-ReselectAfter, sl-MaxMCS-PSSCH, etc.). In one example, if sl-ReselectAfter is configured and the number of consecutive unused transmission opportunities on the resources indicated in the configured sidelink grant is equal to sl-ReselectAfter, the UE 115-a may perform resource reselection. Additionally or alternatively, if the configured sidelink grant cannot accommodate the RLC service data unit by using the maximum allowed modulation and coding scheme configured by the upper layer in sl-MaxMCS-PSSCH, and if the MAC entity chooses not to segment the RLC service data unit, the UE 115-a may perform resource reselection. Additionally or alternatively, if one (or more) transmissions with the configured sidelink grant cannot meet the delay requirements of the data in the logical channel according to the associated priority, the UE 115-a may perform a resource reselection process. In these cases, UE 115-a can determine that the MAC entity has chosen not to perform one (or more) transmissions corresponding to a single MAC protocol data unit.
[0108] A wireless communication system that operates with transmit beamforming may include digital beamforming, analog beamforming, hybrid beamforming, or a combination thereof. In some cases, transmission may affect system usage or interference levels in a specific direction, which is different from non-beamforming-based transmission. In some cases, there may be a beam change between a transmitter and a receiver pair (e.g., between UE 115-a and UE 115-b). For example, a transmitter and a receiver pair (e.g., between UE 115-a and UE 115-b) may experience a transmitter beam change, a receiver beam change, or both. In some examples, a transmitter and a receiver pair (e.g., between UE 115-a and UE 115-b) may also experience a change in direction for a given transmit beam and receive beam pair. For example, a transmit beam and a receive beam pair may refine a transmit beam or a receive beam or both beams within a wider beam. In order to cope with these beam changes, it is necessary to introduce a trigger condition for resource reselection when the beam changes in a wireless communication system (eg, the wireless communication system 200).
[0109] According to one or more aspects of the present disclosure, UE 115-a may receive an indication of resource allocation for sidelink communications on a set of directional beams (e.g., control signaling 215). In some examples, the sidelink communications may be associated with a licensed spectrum or an unlicensed spectrum. Figure 2As shown in the example of , the directional beam set may include transmit beams 220-a and 220-b. In some cases, UE 115-a may send the UE's ability to support beam changes to base station 105-a. In some cases, the beam change condition configuration may be based on the capabilities of UE 115-a. In some examples, UE 115-a may identify beam change conditions for the directional beam set based on the beam change condition configuration. The beam change condition may include one or more of the following: receiving an instruction from base station 105-a to change the beams in the directional beam set, autonomously changing the beams in the directional beam set, or a combination thereof. Then, UE 115-a may perform a resource reselection process based on the beam change condition and the beam change condition configuration for updating resource allocation for sidelink communication. According to some aspects, UE 115-a may identify a resource reselection process trigger that indicates a beam change condition as a trigger for performing a resource reselection process.
[0110] In some examples, UE 115-a may initially select transmit beam 220-a to perform sidelink communications with UE 115-b. UE 115-a may then identify a time window associated with a resource allocation for the sidelink communication. For example, the time window may be predefined or configured by base station 105-a. That is, UE 115-a may receive signaling indicating a time window configuration associated with the time window. At the beginning of the time window, a beam set (which is associated with a transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state or spatial relationship) may be used for resource selection or used as a reference beam set. Figure 2 In the example of , UE 115-a may select a beam set (including transmit beams 220-a and 220-b) at the beginning of a time window. Although multiple beams are included in the beam set, it is understood that the beam set may include one beam. That is, some devices (e.g., UE 115-a) may use only a single beam for a given transmit and receive pair to transmit at a given time. On the other hand, some devices may support more than one beam for a given transmit and receive pair. In some examples, UE 115-a may perform a resource reselection process when the time window expires. For example, UE 115-a may determine that the time window has expired, and upon determining that the time window has expired, UE 115-a may select a new transmit beam (e.g., transmit beam 225-a) or otherwise trigger a resource reselection process. In some cases, resource reselection may be triggered when a transmitter (e.g., UE 115-a) intends to change the transmit beam direction, beam width, or both after the time window expires.
[0111] According to one or more aspects, UE 115-a can identify a metric associated with a beam change condition configuration. In some examples, UE 115-a can receive signaling indicating a configuration associated with the metric. In one example, the metric can quantify at least one of: a change in direction relative to a beam in a set of directional beams, a change in direction between a center of a beam in a set of directional beams and a transmission direction, a set of directional beam subsets, or a combination thereof. In some cases, the metric can be defined or configured to quantify a change in direction relative to one or more existing beams (e.g., using a beam at the beginning of a time window or a reference beam set). In some examples, UE 115-a can identify a change in direction of a set of directional beams. UE 115-a can also determine whether the change in direction of the set of directional beams satisfies a threshold based on the metric. As Figure 2 As described in the example of , UE 115-a can determine that the transmit beam has changed from transmit beam 220-a to transmit beam 225-a. In some examples, UE 115-a can determine whether the change in direction between transmit beam 220-a and transmit beam 225-a satisfies a threshold. In some examples, UE 115-a can determine whether the center of the beam between the original transmission direction and the desired new transmission direction is greater than a threshold. The threshold can be predefined or configured based on a set of directional beams. In some cases, UE 115-a can perform a resource reselection process upon determining that the change in direction of the set of directional beams satisfies a threshold.
[0112] In some examples, UE 115-a may identify a set of directional beam subsets based on the metric. Figure 2 In the example of , transmit beams 220-a and 220-b may be included in a first directional beam subset, and transmit beams 225-a and 225-b may be included in a second directional beam subset. According to some aspects, UE 115-a may perform a resource reselection process upon determining that a beam in a set of directional beams has changed from a first subset in a set of directional beam subsets to a second subset. For example, UE 115-a may determine that the transmit beam has changed from transmit beam 220-a to transmit beam 225-a. UE 115-a may determine that transmit beam 220-a and transmit beam 225-a belong to different subsets. In this case, UE 115-a may choose to perform a resource reselection process based on switching the beam from transmit beam 220-a to transmit beam 225-a. Therefore, one or more aspects of the present disclosure provide one or more trigger conditions for resource reselection when a beam changes in a wireless communication system.
[0113] In some examples, one or more beam subsets may be configured by UE 115-a or recommended by UE 115-a to another device (e.g., base station 105-a or scheduling UE 115). In some examples, base station 105-a or scheduling UE 115 may then configure subsets for UE 115-a, e.g., as part of an initial beam and resource assignment, immediately following the recommendation of scheduling UE 115 or based on additional input (e.g., reports from other UEs 115). In some examples, all beams within a subset may be associated with a similar set of beam directions, while different subsets may have different directions. Thus, an effect similar to triggering resource reselection when a transmit beam direction changes by more than a certain threshold may be achieved by configuring subsets accordingly, without UE 115-a having to report the precise beam direction. Resource selection (reselection) may be performed in an unlicensed or shared spectrum as a form of contention resolution. It may be performed in licensed spectrum, for example, between UEs 115 that are out of coverage or experiencing poor coverage (eg, due to temporary blocks or gaps in coverage).
[0114] In some cases, a change in the direction of a transmit beam (e.g., for transmission to different receiver UEs 115) may cause different sets of UEs 115 to be affected by interference from the transmit beam, and therefore different resources may be selected to minimize the interference. Resource reselection can also avoid occupying resources that are being used by another UE. In a beamforming system, multiple UEs 115 can occupy the same resources for transmission as long as their beams are spatially separable at their respective receiver UEs 115 (receivers may be the same or different). When the transmit beam changes, the spatial separation condition can be re-evaluated. In some cases, when the transmit beam changes, the receiver beam to be used to sense whether the resource is occupied by other UEs 115 can also be changed. Therefore, a resource reselection trigger based on a beam change allows such a re-evaluation and leads to an improvement in overall system efficiency, such as lower resource conflicts, lower interference, and higher throughput, as well as other benefits. In the example of beam change, or in addition to beam change, such reselection can also be triggered based on a change in the transmit power level exceeding a threshold. The change in transmit power may be measured over consecutive transmissions, regardless of whether the transmissions are associated with the same transmit beam. Alternatively, the change in transmit power may be measured across a current instance and a previous (e.g., most recent previous) instance of the same transmit beam. In some examples, a threshold may be considered to have been exceeded if the same transmit beam has not been used previously, or if the time between the previous use and the current use exceeds the threshold.
[0115] Figure 3An example of a process flow 300 for supporting resource reselection triggering with beamforming according to aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the process flow 300 may implement the respective references to Figure 1 and 2 The process flow 300 may be based on one or more rules for triggering resource reselection when a beam changes in a wireless communication system. The process flow 300 may be implemented by a UE 115-c, a UE 115-d, and a base station 105-b to reduce power consumption and may facilitate low latency and low interference for wireless communications supporting high priority channels, among other benefits. The base station 105-b, the UE 115-c, and the UE 115-d may be as described in reference Figure 1 and 2 Examples of base station 105 and UE 115 are described.
[0116] In the following description of process flow 300, operations between base station 105-b, UE 115-c, and UE 115-d may be sent in a different order than the example order shown, or operations performed by base station 105-b, UE 115-c, and UE 115-d may be performed in a different order or at a different time. Some operations may also be omitted from process flow 300, and other operations may be added to process flow 300.
[0117] At 305, base station 105-b may identify a configuration for sidelink communications for UE 115-c. In some examples, the configuration may be for a set of opportunities for sidelink communications configured for UE 115-c. In some examples, the configuration may be associated with a resource grant. The resource grant may include a resource allocation for sidelink communications on a set of directional beams. In some examples, the sidelink communications may be associated with a licensed spectrum or an unlicensed spectrum. In some examples, the set of directional beams may include one or more directional beams.
[0118] The base station 105-b may transmit the identified configuration to the UE 115-c at 310. For example, the base station 105-b may transmit an indication of resource allocation for sidelink communications on a set of directional beams.
[0119] At 315, UE 115-c may send to base station 105-b the capability of UE 115-c to support beam changing.
[0120] At 320, the base station 105-b may determine a beam change condition configuration. In some examples, the beam change condition configuration may be based on the capabilities of the UE. The beam change condition configuration may include one or more thresholds, metrics, or other parameters for indicating to the UE conditions associated with a beam change that triggers a resource reselection process.
[0121] At 325, the base station 105-b may send signaling indicating the beam changing condition. Although shown as sending a signal, it is understood that the base station 105-b may otherwise configure the UE 115-c to identify the beam changing condition for the set of directional beams based on the beam changing condition configuration.
[0122] At 330, the UE 115-c may identify a beam changing condition for the set of directional beams based on the beam changing condition configuration. Figure 2 As described, the beam change condition may include a change associated with transmitting on one or more beams initiated by a UE 115-c, a base station 105-b, or some other entity (e.g., changing the beam direction, changing the beam size, selecting a new beam, etc.). In one example, the UE 115-c may identify a resource reselection process trigger that indicates the beam change condition as a trigger for performing a resource reselection process. In some cases, the beam change condition signal at 325 may indicate a time window configuration associated with a time window. Based on the configuration, the UE 115-c may identify a time window associated with a resource allocation for sidelink communication. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 115-c may identify a metric associated with the beam change condition configuration. In some examples, the metric may quantify at least one of: a change in direction relative to a beam in a set of directional beams, a change in direction between a center of a beam in a set of directional beams and a transmission direction, a set of directional beam subsets, or a combination thereof.
[0123] In some examples, UE 115-c can identify a change in the direction of a set of directional beams and can determine whether the change in the direction of the set of directional beams meets a threshold based on the metric. Additionally or alternatively, UE 115-c can identify a set of directional beam subsets based on the metric (e.g., a metric indicated by base station 105-b).
[0124] At 335, UE 115-c may perform a resource reselection process for updating resource allocation for sidelink communication based on the beam change condition and the beam change condition configuration. For example, UE 115-c may perform a resource reselection process when the time window determined at 330 expires. Additionally or alternatively, UE 115-c may perform a resource reselection process when it is determined that the change in the direction of the directional beam set satisfies a threshold. In some cases, UE 115-c may perform a resource reselection process when it is determined that the beam in the directional beam set changes from a first subset in a set of directional beam subsets to a second subset. At 340, UE 115-c may perform sidelink communication with UE 115-d. For example, UE 115-c may perform sidelink communication with UE 115-d on a resource set selected based on a resource reselection process triggered by the beam change condition.

The processor may also be implemented as a combination of computing devices (e.g., a combination of a digital signal processor (DSP) and a microprocessor, a plurality of microprocessors, one or more microprocessors in conjunction with a DSP core, or any other such configuration).
[0243] The functions described herein can be implemented in hardware, software executed by a processor, firmware, or any combination thereof. If implemented in software executed by a processor, the functions can be stored or sent as one or more instructions or codes on a computer-readable medium. Other examples and embodiments are within the scope and spirit of the present disclosure and the appended claims. For example, due to the nature of software, the functions described herein can be implemented using software executed by a processor, hardware, firmware, hard wiring, or any combination of these. The features of the implementation functions can also be physically located in multiple locations, including being distributed so that the parts of the functions are implemented in different physical locations. As used herein (including the claims), when the term "and / or" is used in a list of two or more items, it means that any one of the listed items can be used alone, or any combination of two or more of the listed items can be used. For example, if a composition is described as comprising components A, B, and / or C, the composition can include: only A; only B; only C; a combination of A and B; a combination of A and C; a combination of B and C; or a combination of A, B, and C. Additionally, as used herein (including the claims), "or" as used in a list of items (e.g., a list of items ending with a phrase such as "at least one of" or "one or more of") indicates a disjunctive list so that, for example, a list of "at least one of A, B, or C" means A or B or C or AB or AC or BC or ABC (i.e., A and B and C).
[0244] Computer-readable media include non-transitory computer storage media and communication media, including any media that helps to transfer a computer program from one place to another.Non-transitory storage media can be any available media that can be accessed by a general or special computer.Exemplarily and not limitingly, non-transitory computer-readable media can include RAM, ROM, electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM), flash memory, compact disc (CD) ROM or other optical disc storage, disk storage or other magnetic storage devices or can be used to carry or store required program code units in the form of instructions or data structures and can be accessed by a general or special computer or a general or special processor. Any other non-transitory medium. In addition, any connection is appropriately referred to as a computer-readable medium. For example, if a coaxial cable, fiber optic cable, twisted pair, digital subscriber line (DSL) or wireless technologies such as infrared, radio and microwaves are used to send software from a website, server or other remote source, coaxial cable, fiber optic cable, twisted pair, DSL or wireless technologies such as infrared, radio and microwaves are included in the definition of computer-readable media. Disk and disc, as used herein, includes CD, laser disc, optical disc, digital versatile disc (DVD), floppy disk and Blu-ray disc, where disks usually reproduce data magnetically, while discs reproduce data optically with lasers. Combinations of the above are also included within the scope of computer-readable media.
[0245] As used herein, the phrase "based on" should not be interpreted as a reference to a closed set of conditions. For example, an exemplary step described as "based on condition A" can be based on condition A and condition B without departing from the scope of the present disclosure. That is, as used herein, the phrase "based on" is to be interpreted in the same manner as the phrase "based at least in part on".
[0246] In the drawings, similar components or features may have the same reference number. In addition, multiple components of the same type may be distinguished by following the reference number with a dash and a second reference that distinguishes the similar components. If only the first reference number is used in the specification, the description applies to any one of the similar components having the same first reference number, regardless of the second or other subsequent reference numbers.
[0247] The descriptions set forth herein in conjunction with the accompanying drawings describe exemplary configurations, but do not represent all examples that may be implemented or within the scope of the claims. The term "example" as used herein means "used as an example, instance, or illustration," rather than "preferred" or "superior to other examples." The detailed description includes specific details to provide an understanding of the described techniques. However, these techniques may be implemented without these specific details. In some cases, known structures and devices are illustrated in schematic form to avoid obscuring the concepts of the described examples.
[0248] The description herein is provided to enable one of ordinary skill in the art to practice or use the present disclosure. Various modifications to the present disclosure will be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art, and the general principles defined herein may be applied to other variations without departing from the scope of the present disclosure. Therefore, the present disclosure is not limited to the examples and designs described herein, but should be given the widest scope consistent with the principles and novel features disclosed herein.
