Background Art

[0003] Wireless communication devices are becoming more common and more complex. For example, mobile telecommunication devices have evolved from simple phones to devices with multiple communication capabilities (e.g., multiple cellular communication protocols, Wi-Fi, and other short-range communication protocols) smartphones, supercomputing processors, cameras, etc. Wireless communication devices have antennas that support various functionalities such as communication within a certain frequency range, receiving Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals (also called satellite positioning signals (SPS signals)), etc.

[0004] In the case where several antennas are provided in a single wireless communication device, coupling between antennas may degrade performance. For example, power in a transmitted communication signal may be received and dissipated by another antenna in the device (e.g., an antenna for receiving GNSS signals, an antenna for receiving and transmitting other communication signals, etc.). Summary of the invention

[0005] An example antenna connection / terminal device includes: a first antenna port configured to be communicatively coupled to a first antenna; a first switch communicatively coupled to the first antenna port; a transceiver circuit communicatively coupled to the first switch and including a transmit circuit and a first receive circuit, wherein the first switch is configured to selectively communicatively couple the first antenna port to the transmit circuit or the first receive circuit; a second antenna port configured to be communicatively coupled to a second antenna; a second switch communicatively coupled to the second antenna port; a second receive circuit communicatively coupled to the second switch; one or more terminals having corresponding one or more different impedances, wherein the second switch is configured to selectively communicatively couple the second antenna port to the transmit circuit or the first receive circuit a processor, the processor being communicatively coupled to the transceiver circuit, the second receiving circuit, the first switch, and the second switch, and being configured to provide one or more indications of transceiver operation, the transceiver operation including time division multiplexing between the operation of the transmitting circuit transmitting a transmit signal and the operation of the first receiving circuit, and the first switch correspondingly selectively communicatively coupling the first antenna port to the transmitting circuit or the first receiving circuit; and a hardware switch controller, the hardware switch controller being communicatively coupled to the processor and the second switch, and being configured to control the second switch to communicatively couple the second antenna port to a selected terminal among the one or more terminals based on the one or more indications of transceiver operation according to the time division multiplexing between the operation of the transmitting circuit and the operation of the first receiving circuit.

[0006] An example antenna detuning method includes: performing time domain duplexing on signal transmission and signal reception of a first antenna of a wireless communication device; providing one or more first indications of time domain duplexing and one or more second indications of signal transmission to a semi-autonomous hardware controller of the wireless communication device; and responding to the one or more first indications of time domain duplexing and the one or more second indications of signal transmission at the semi-autonomous hardware controller of the wireless communication device by coupling a second antenna of the wireless communication device to a receiving circuit during signal reception of the first antenna and coupling the second antenna of the wireless communication device to a terminal during signal transmission of the first antenna.

[0007] An example wireless communication device includes: a component for time domain duplexing signal transmission and signal reception of a first antenna of the wireless communication device; a component for providing one or more first indications of time domain duplexing and one or more second indications of signal transmission to a semi-autonomous hardware controller of the wireless communication device; and a component for coupling a second antenna of the wireless communication device to a receiving circuit during signal reception of the first antenna and coupling the second antenna of the wireless communication device to a terminal during signal transmission of the first antenna in response to the one or more first indications of time domain duplexing and the one or more second indications of signal transmission.

[0010] Another example antenna detuning method includes selectively switching an antenna between connecting to a receive circuit or one of several impedance terminals based on whether the other antenna is being used for transmission or reception. The switching may be controlled by a hardware controller that does not receive explicit instructions for switching, but rather switches semi-autonomously based on a control (e.g., disable) signal provided to a circuit associated with the other antenna. [0025] This article discusses the technology for suppressing the power dissipation of the signal sent from the first antenna of the electronic device by the second antenna of the electronic device. The transmission parameters (e.g., the first antenna, the frequency and timing of the transmission signal) of the transmission signal can be provided to the detuning controller of the electronic device. The detuning controller can use the transmission parameters and one or more other indications (e.g., detuning enable indication and / or detuning trigger) to selectively detune the second antenna by connecting the second antenna to the terminal, which will provide input impedance at the second antenna, thereby suppressing the reception of the transmission signal by the second antenna (and thus suppressing the power dissipation of one or more components downstream of the second antenna). Different terminals can be connected to the second antenna based on different transmission parameter values. For example, when the first antenna is not transmitting, the second antenna can be connected to the receiving circuit. Over time, the connection of the second antenna to one or more terminals can be coordinated with the signal transmission of the first antenna, so that the terminal connection is aligned in time with the transmission time of, for example, a time division duplex time slot. However, other configurations can be used.

[0026] The items and / or techniques described herein may provide one or more of the following capabilities, as well as other capabilities not mentioned. The gain and / or TRP (total radiated power) of the first antenna when transmitting a signal may be improved, for example, by changing the input impedance at the second antenna to suppress the power dissipation of the signal in the receiving path (including the second antenna and possibly one or more other components), which may reduce the power dissipation in the receiving path compared to not changing the input impedance (e.g., provided by a receiving chain connected to the second antenna). The suppression of power dissipation in the receiving path may be time-aligned with the time division multiplexing of the first antenna (e.g., between transmission and reception). Other capabilities may be provided, and not every specific implementation according to the present disclosure must provide any of the capabilities discussed, let alone all of the capabilities. In addition, it is also possible to achieve the above effects in ways other than those described, and the items / techniques described may not necessarily produce the described effects.

[0027] refer to Figure 1, the communication system 100 includes a mobile device 112, a network 114, a server 116, and access points (APs) 118, 120. The communication system 100 is a wireless communication system because the components of the communication system 100 can communicate with each other (at least sometimes using wireless connections) directly or indirectly (e.g., via one or more of the network 114 and / or access points 118, 120 (and / or one or more other devices not shown, such as one or more base transceiver stations)). For indirect communication, the communication can be changed during transmission from one entity to another, for example, to change header information of a data packet, change the format, etc. The mobile device 112 shown is a mobile wireless communication device (although they are capable of communicating wirelessly as well as via a wired connection), including mobile phones (including smart phones), laptop computers, and tablet computers. Other mobile devices, whether currently existing or developed in the future, may also be used. In addition, other wireless devices (whether mobile or not) may be implemented within the communication system 100 and may communicate with each other and / or with the mobile device 112, the network 114, the server 116, and / or the APs 118, 120. For example, such other devices may include Internet of Things (IoT) devices, medical devices, home entertainment and / or automation devices, automotive devices, etc. The mobile device 112 or other devices may be configured to communicate in different networks and / or for different purposes (e.g., 5G, Wi-Fi communications, Wi-Fi communications at multiple frequencies, satellite communications and / or positioning, one or more types of cellular communications (e.g., GSM (Global System for Mobile), CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access), LTE (Long Term Evolution), etc.), communications, etc.).

[0028] Reference Figure 2 , mobile device 200( Figure 11. The example of one of the mobile devices 112 shown in the figure includes a top cover 210, a display layer 220, a printed circuit board (PCB) layer 230, and a bottom cover 240. The mobile device 200 as shown can be a smart phone or a tablet computer, but the embodiments described herein are not limited to such devices (for example, in other specific implementations of the concepts described herein, the device can be a router or a customer premises equipment (CPE)). The top cover 210 includes a screen 214. The bottom cover 240 has a bottom surface 244. The sides 212, 242 of the top cover 210 and the bottom cover 240 provide edge surfaces. The top cover 210 and the bottom cover 240 constitute a housing that holds the display layer 220, the PCB layer 230, and other components of the mobile device 200 that may or may not be located on the PCB layer 230. For example, the housing can hold (for example, accommodate, contain) the antenna system, front-end circuit, intermediate frequency circuit, and processor discussed below, or be integrated with them. The housing can be substantially rectangular, have two sets of parallel edges in the illustrated embodiment, and can be configured to be bent or folded. In this example, the housing has rounded corners, but the housing can be substantially rectangular with corners of other shapes (e.g., corners at straight angles (e.g., 45°), 90°, other non-straight corners, etc.). In addition, the size and / or shape of the PCB layer 230 may be disproportionate to the size and / or shape of either the top cover or the bottom cover, or otherwise disproportionate to the periphery of the device. For example, the PCB layer 230 may have a cutout to accommodate a battery. In addition, the PCB layer 230 may include a sandwich board and / or a PCB daughter board. The daughter board may be selected to facilitate the design and / or manufacturing process, for example, to enhance functional separation or better utilize the space within the housing. Embodiments of the PCB layer 230 other than the illustrated embodiments may be implemented.

[0029] See also Figure 3, PCB layer 300 (an example of PCB layer 230) includes a main portion 310 and a portion including antenna systems 320, 330. In the example shown, antenna systems 320, 330 are disposed at opposite ends 301, 302 of PCB layer 300, but one or both of antenna systems 320, 330 may be disposed elsewhere, for example, along a side edge of PCB layer 300. Antenna system 320 includes antennas 322, 323 each having one or more antenna elements, and may include energy couplers 324, 325, which are coupled to antennas 322, 323, respectively, and are configured to transfer energy from main portion 310 to antennas 322, 323 and / or from antennas 322, 323 to main portion 310. Energy couplers 324, 325 may be specific or even custom components that transfer energy to / from antennas 322, 323, and / or may be transmission lines or portions thereof. The antenna system 330 includes an antenna 332 having one or more antenna elements and one or more energy couplers 334, which are coupled to the antenna 332 and are configured to transfer energy from the main part 310 to the antenna 332 and / or transfer energy from the antenna 332 to the main part 310. The antenna 322, the antenna 323 and / or the antenna 332 may include an array of antenna elements that can be configured for beamforming. The main part 310 includes a PCB 311, which includes front-end circuits 312, 313 (also known as radio frequency (RF) circuits), a transceiver 314 and a processor 315, which includes a memory 316. The memory 316 can be a non-transitory processor-readable storage medium, which includes software with processor-readable instructions, which are configured to cause the processor 315 to perform functions (for example, possibly after compiling the instructions). The processor 315 can be implemented as a modem or a part thereof. The front-end circuits 312, 313 may be configured to provide signals to be radiated by the antenna systems 320, 330, and / or to receive and process signals received by the antenna systems 320, 330 and provided to the front-end circuits 312, 313 from these antenna systems. One or more of the front-end circuits 312, 313 include one or more switches (e.g., as part of one or more multiplexers) for selectively coupling the corresponding energy couplers 324, 325, 334 to the desired terminals (of the desired impedance), as further discussed herein. The front-end circuits 312, 313 may be configured to process (e.g., amplify, route, filter, etc.) RF signals received from the transceiver 314 or antennas 322, 323, 332, for example without significantly adjusting their frequencies. In some examples, the antennas 322, 323, 332 are configured to operate at frequencies below 6 GHz (or below 7 GHz), for example, in the range of 1.8 GHz to 5 GHz.However, in some examples, the front-end circuits 312, 313 may be configured to convert IF signals received from the transceiver 314 to RF (radio frequency) signals (e.g., appropriately amplified using a power amplifier and / or phase shifted signals when coupled to an antenna array), and provide the RF signals to the antenna systems 320, 330 for radiation. Similarly, the front-end circuits 312, 313 may be configured to convert RF signals received by the antenna systems 320, 330 to IF signals (e.g., using a low noise amplifier and a mixer), and transmit the IF signals to the transceiver 314. In these examples, the transceiver 314 may be configured to convert IF signals received from the front-end circuits 312, 313 to baseband signals, and provide the baseband signals to the processor 315. The transceiver 314 may also be configured to convert baseband signals provided by the processor 315 to IF signals, and provide the IF signals to the front-end circuits 312, 313. The processor 315 is communicatively coupled to the transceiver 314, which is communicatively coupled to the front end circuits 312, 313, which are communicatively coupled to the antenna systems 320, 330, respectively.

[0030] exist Figure 3 , the dashed lines separating the antenna systems 320, 330 from the PCB 311 indicate the functional separation of the antenna systems 320, 330 (and their components) from the rest of the PCB layer 300. Portions of the antenna systems 320, 330 may be integral with the PCB 311, thereby forming an integral component of the PCB 311. One or more components of the antenna systems 320, 330 may be integrally formed with the PCB 311, and one or more other components may be formed separately from the PCB 311 and mounted to the PCB 311, or otherwise made part of the PCB layer 300 (e.g., on a PCB daughterboard). Alternatively, the antenna systems 320, 330 may be formed separately from the PCB 311 and coupled to the front-end circuits 312, 313. In some examples, one or more components of either of the antenna systems 320, 330 may be integrated with the front-end circuits 312, 313, for example, in a single module or on a single circuit board separate from the PCB 311. For example, the front end circuits 312, 313 may be physically attached to the antenna systems 320, 330, e.g., to the backside of the respective ground planes of the antenna systems 320, 330. An antenna of the antenna systems 320, 330 may have the front end circuits electrically (conductively) coupled and physically attached to the antenna, while another antenna may have the front end circuits physically separated but electrically coupled to the other antenna.

[0031] When one of the antennas 322, 323, 332 is transmitting (e.g., in the transmit portion of a TDD (time division duplex) mode), the transmit (Tx) power absorption of each coupled receive (Rx) antenna can be reduced or avoided by detuning the receive antenna (e.g., in a terminating impedance such as an LNA (low noise amplifier)). The receive antenna can be detuned by, for example, providing a detuned impedance (e.g., a high reflective impedance) to the receive antenna. The detuned impedance can be provided, for example, by shorting the receive antenna to ground to obtain a short-circuit impedance, or disconnecting the receive antenna or connecting the antenna to an open-circuit impedance, or connecting the antenna to a detuned impedance of an intermediate impedance (e.g., -50j or +50j) between the short-circuit impedance and the open-circuit impedance. To detune the antenna in TDD mode, when isolation mode or short circuit is supported, for example, an SRS (sounding reference signal) switch, an ASDiv (antenna switch diversity) switch, a DRx (diversity reception) module (the switch in), an ASM (antenna switch module) (the switch in) and / or an integrated antenna switch (IAS) can be used.

[0032] What detuned impedance is effective (or most effective) may vary for a particular transmission (e.g., a transmission by one or more particular antennas having one or more particular parameters (e.g., transmit frequency, which antenna(s) are detuned, etc.). Because the impedance of the connected terminal is transformed due to the path length of the transmit line between the terminal and the corresponding antenna and due to any components between the terminal and the antenna, it may be difficult to know the resulting input impedance of the antenna without measurement. The desired antenna terminal (e.g., a detuned impedance of a short circuit impedance, an open circuit impedance, or an intermediate impedance (e.g., -50j or +50j)) for one or more antennas under various transmit conditions (transmitting antenna, transmit signal frequency, transmit technology, etc.) may be determined by varying the transmit parameters, connecting different terminals with different detuned impedances to the one or more antennas, and measuring the gain and / or TRP (total radiated power) of the transmission for each terminal for different combinations of transmit parameters. The desired terminal for each antenna that may be coupled to the transmit antenna for each transmit parameter combination may be stored in a lookup table (LUT), for example, in the memory 316 of the processor 315. For example, a detuning framework for TDM (time division multiplexing, such as TDD) may be stored in the memory 316 for use with various RF front-end architectures.

[0033] TDM detuning switching can be aligned in time with communication units (e.g., frames and uplink / downlink (UL / DL) subframes such as LTE (Long Term Evolution)). LTE frames are 10ms long and UL / DL subframes are 1ms long, and the switching time between transmission and reception is about 25μs (microseconds). Using an ASDiv switch or an ASM (antenna switch module) switch can provide sufficiently fast switching (e.g., about 2μs) to detune the receive antenna, thereby avoiding or reducing power dissipation of the receive antenna (and downstream receive circuitry). For antennas that are selectively coupled to a transmitter or receiver through a duplexer, a detuning switch can be provided "behind" the duplexer (i.e., between the duplexer and the receiver) to provide detuning without affecting other paths that share the antenna (e.g., for SCC1 (Secondary Component Carrier 1), SCC2, EN-DC (E-UTRAN (Evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunications System Terrestrial Radio Access Network) New Radio - Dual Connectivity), GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System, etc.). Detuning using ASDiv and / or ASM switches after the duplexer is fast enough for TDD detuning.

[0034] Detuning antennas not used for transmission (e.g., antennas not currently transmitting or antennas used for receive-only functions such as receiving GNSS signals) can be used to reduce or avoid absorbing power of transmit signals in the unused antennas (and other circuits). Detuning can provide impedances at the unused antennas that reflect incoming transmit signals and / or inhibit reception / absorption of transmit signals. To inhibit power absorption, the input impedance presented by the receive antenna should be away from the complex conjugate of the impedance of the receive antenna. Detuning can be performed by terminating the receive path anywhere downstream of the receive antenna, but terminating the receive path closer to the receive antenna helps reduce power losses (e.g., due to transmit line resistance and losses in any intervening components (e.g., circuits)).

[0035] Also refer to Figure 4, the wireless communication device 400 includes a housing 410, antennas 420, 430, and an antenna connection / terminal device 440. The antennas 420, 430 may be, for example, examples of antennas 322, 332, and the intermediate circuits 422, 432 may be examples of energy couplers 324, 334 and / or other components. The antenna connection / terminal device 440 may be an example of front-end circuits 312, 313, transceivers 314, and processors 315 (including memory 316). For example, in some examples, the transceiver 450 and the receiving circuit 460 may be parts of the transceiver 314; the processor 470 may be an example of the processor 315; and the switches 471, 472, the hardware switch controller 480, and the first terminal 461 and the second terminal 462 may be examples of at least parts of the front-end circuits 312, 313. The components of the device 440 may be physically separated and spaced apart from each other, such as in different physical modules. For example, the hardware switch controller 480, the switch 472, and the terminals 461, 462 may be provided in a module (e.g., ASM) separate from the processor 470 and the receiving circuit 460. For another example, the switch 471 may be provided in a module (e.g., ASM) separate from the transceiver 450. In yet other examples, the transceiver 450, the receiving circuit 460, and / or portions thereof may be provided in a module having the switches 471, 472. For example, the receiving circuit 454 and / or the receiving circuit 460 may include an LNA implemented separately from the transceiver 314, for example, implemented in a module having the switch 471 and / or the switch 472, respectively. The device 440 includes antenna ports 441, 442 configured to be communicatively coupled to the antennas 420, 430, for example, through intermediate circuits 422, 432 (e.g., one or more filters, etc.), respectively. Ports 441, 442 may be physical connectors (e.g., if device 440 is a separate unit or module, or switches 471, 472 are components of one or more modules) or may be virtual ports, such as any point along a transmission line connecting device 440 to antennas 420, 430 (or to intermediate circuits 422, 432). Wireless communication device 400 may be, for example, a smartphone, a tablet computer, a portion of a portable computer (e.g., a display portion or a base portion of a foldable laptop computer), a router, a CPE, etc.

[0036] Device 400 is an example, and other configurations may be used. For example, one or more additional antennas may be included in device 400. Each of antennas 420, 430 and / or any other antenna may represent one or more antenna elements (e.g., antenna arrays). Each of antennas 420, 430 may be part of a corresponding antenna module including a feeding structure (e.g., one or more energy couplers) and / or an additional antenna. Each of antennas 420, 430 includes one or more antenna elements configured to convert a wireless signal into another form of signal (e.g., from free space wireless to guided wireless, or from wireless to wired, etc.). Antennas 420, 430 may each be any one of a variety of antennas, having one or more antenna elements of any one of a variety of types of antenna elements, such as PIFA (planar inverted F antenna), patch, horn, open waveguide, substrate integrated waveguide, wired element, monopole, dipole, ring, spiral, lens, microstrip with resonant branches, slot line with resonant branches, etc. Although antennas 420, 430 are communicatively coupled to respective switches 471, 472 and transceiver 450 and receive circuit 460, respectively, one or more of antennas 420, 430 may be coupled to more than one transceiver, more than one transmit circuit, or more than one receive circuit, or a combination thereof. Similarly, a single transceiver, a single transmit circuit, and / or a single receive circuit may be communicatively coupled to multiple antennas. The wireless communication device 400 may be referred to by other terms, such as access terminal (AT), client device, wireless device, subscriber device, subscriber terminal, subscriber station, user terminal (UT), user equipment (UE), mobile terminal, mobile station (MS), mobile device, etc.

[0037] The antenna connection / terminal device 440 is configured to selectively couple the antenna 420 to the transmission circuit 452 or the reception circuit 454 of the transceiver 450, and to selectively couple the antenna 430 to the reception circuit 460 or the first terminal 461 or the second terminal 462. The switch 471 is configured to selectively couple the antenna 420 to the transmission circuit 452 or the reception circuit 454 under the control of the processor 470. The switch 472 is configured to selectively couple the antenna 430 to the reception circuit 460 or one of the terminals 461, 462 under the control of the processor 470. Although there is no transmission circuit available for the antenna 430 in the example of the wireless communication device 400 shown, other example configurations are possible, including a configuration in which the transmission circuit can be connected to the antenna 430. Additionally or alternatively, one or more additional antennas other than those shown may be present in the device 400, and one or more of the one or more additional antennas may be selectively coupled to the reception circuit or the terminal, or may be selectively coupled to the reception circuit, the transmission circuit, or the terminal. Additionally or alternatively, although multiple terminals are shown, a single terminal, such as terminal 461, may be used. Terminals 461, 462 have different impedances and different impedances from receive circuit 460, such that coupling receive circuit 460 or one of terminals 461, 462 to antenna 430 will present a different input impedance from free space into antenna 430, which will result in different coupling from antenna 420 to antenna 430 during transmission by antenna 420. Although not illustrated, more than one transmit circuit may be included (e.g., where another transmit circuit is coupled to antenna 430 or coupled to Figure 4 In some such examples, switch 471, under the control of processor 470, may be further configured to selectively couple antenna 420 to one or more terminals (not illustrated).

[0038] The processor 470 is communicatively coupled to the transceiver 450 and is configured to provide transmit signals to the transceiver 450, receive receive signals from the transceiver 450, and provide one or more indications of transceiver operation. The indications of transceiver operation include one or more transmit control signals 474 and one or more TDD control signals 476 (time division duplex control signals). The transmit control signal 474 provides one or more indications of transceiver operation (i.e., one or more indications of signal transmission), such as one or more transmit parameters, such as which transmit circuit is operational (e.g., if there are more than one possible transmit circuit) and therefore one or more transmit antennas (e.g., where separate transmit antennas correspond to separate transmit circuits), transmit frequency and / or transmit timing (e.g., for time division multiplexed (TDM) transmissions, such as TDD transmissions). The transmit control signal 474 may indicate a decoded transmit parameter (i.e., parameter value), for example, with different transmit parameter sets corresponding to the decoded values (e.g., a four-bit code represents up to 16 different transmit parameter sets (one of which may consist of a single transmit parameter)). Alternatively, the processor 470 may analyze transceiver operation (e.g., indications of transceiver operation) to determine the terminal to be used by one or more antennas, and the transmit control signal 474 may indicate the terminal to be used (e.g., in the absence of one or more indications of transceiver operation). For example, the processor 470 may take into account operations such as multi-SIM (multiple subscriber identity module) operation, DSDA (dual SIM dual active) operation, multi-RAT (e.g., WiFi and ) operation, etc. to select what information to provide in the control signal 474. The control signal 474 may provide less information than the full transceiver operation, and the hardware switch controller 480 may use a mapping of such information to the terminal to be used (e.g., loaded at call setup) to couple the antenna port 442 to the receive circuit or one of the terminals 461, 462. In some examples, the control signal 474 includes (only) an indication of which of the terminals 461, 462 to use when triggered; this value or indication may be stored in a register of the hardware switch controller 480 and used to connect the antenna 430 to the appropriate terminal in response to the trigger, without the hardware switch controller 480 needing to know or perform any determination about the frequency being used, which other antennas are active, etc. In some examples, the control signal 474 may include an indication that the switch 472 should remain open and / or that the operation of the switch 472 should not be changed in response to the trigger. In some examples, the control signal 474 may fully describe the transceiver operation, but is transmitted less frequently than if less information is included in the control signal 474. The control signal 474 may provide different amounts of information at different times. For example, the control signal 474 may include a comprehensive (e.g., complete) description of transceiver operation at a first time and provide less transceiver operation information at another time (e.g., the less information may be provided multiple times between transmissions of the comprehensive description of transceiver operation). The TDD control signal 476 indicates the timing of switching between transmit and receive operations of the transceiver 450 and, therefore, the antenna 420. The TDD control signal 476 causes the switch 471 to switch between coupling the antenna port 441 (and, therefore, the antenna 420) to the transmit circuit 452 and coupling the antenna port 441 to the receive circuit 454.

[0039] The processor 470 is communicatively coupled to the receive circuit 460 and the hardware switch controller 480 for controlling the switch 472. The transmit control signal 474 may act as a detuning enable to enable the controller 480 to actuate the switch 472 to selectively couple the antenna port 442 (and therefore the antenna 430) to one of the terminals 461, 462. The hardware switch controller 480 is communicatively coupled to the processor 470 and the switch 472 and is configured to control the switch 472 to selectively couple the antenna port 442 to the receive circuit 460 or one of the terminals 461, 462 based on one or more indications of transceiver operation provided by the transmit control signal 474. The hardware switch controller 480 may use information from the transmit control signal 474 to determine the operation of the switch 472, such as determining which of the terminals 461, 462 is to be coupled to the antenna port 442. The processor 470 may provide one or more receive control signals 478 to the receive circuit 460 and the hardware switch controller 480. The reception control signal 478 may include a disable signal, such as an LNA disable signal for disabling an LNA of the reception circuit or an ASM disable signal for disabling the entire ASM (antenna switch module) including the reception circuit 460. The disable signal of the reception control signal 478 may be used as a trigger by the hardware switch controller 480 to cause the switch 472 to decouple the reception circuit 460 from the antenna port 442, for example, and couple the antenna port 442 to one of the terminals 461, 462.

[0040] The hardware switch controller 480 and the switch 472 are configured to provide switching fast enough to be time-aligned or time-synchronized with the TDM switching of the transceiver 450 and the switch 471. The controller 480 includes hardware logic configured to respond to the transmit control signal 474 (e.g., an indication of which antenna will transmit, transmit timing and / or transmit frequency, etc.) by determining which terminal is coupled to the antenna port 442 and actuate the switch 472 to achieve the determined coupling. The controller 480 may determine the desired coupling and achieve the desired coupling in response to a trigger, such as an indication to disable the receive path corresponding to the antenna port 442, such as a disable LNA indication of the receive control signal 478, or a disable ASM signal indicating to disable the entire ASM containing the receive circuit 460 (and may include switches 471, 472 and possibly one or more other switches). The ASM may include some or all of the receive circuit 460 (e.g., the LNA of the receive circuit 460). The controller 480 may cause the switch 472 to couple the terminal to the antenna port 442 (only) if detuning is currently enabled (e.g., by a dedicated detuning enable signal from the processor 470, or based on one or more of the transmit control signals 474, etc.). The controller 480 may be configured to implement detuning semi-autonomously, such as in response to a trigger by determining and implementing the desired detuning. For example, if detuning is enabled, the controller 480 may respond to a disable receive chain indication (e.g., disable LNA) by accessing a lookup table and determining the desired detuned terminal based on one or more transmit parameters (e.g., indicated by the transmit control signal 474) and by causing the switch 472 to couple the antenna port 442 to the desired detuned terminal. Selecting the best available detuned terminal may improve the gain and / or TRP of the transmit antenna, wherein the amount of gain and / or TRP improvement depends on the amount of coupling between the transmit antenna and the receive antenna without detuning and the mismatch of the impedance of the transmit antenna and the receive antenna when detuning is implemented. For example, experimental results have shown that for antennas with coupling (S21) of -8 dB, -10 dB, and -12 dB, the gain can be increased by up to 0.8 dB, up to 0.4 dB, and up to 0.25 dB relative to a 50Ω termination, respectively. Based on the design of the device and / or testing using one or more example devices, the lookup table with the desired detuned termination can be the same for similarly designed wireless communication devices, or can be based on measurements during the manufacture of each wireless communication device. The desired termination can be a specific termination (with a specific impedance value), or can be an indication that the current termination is not changed. This may occur, for example, when a short transmit burst is implemented, for example, for measurement, such as during a special subframe.

[0041] Other configurations of the wireless communication device 400 are possible. For example, a transmit circuit may be provided for the antenna 430, and the switch 472 may be operated to selectively couple the antenna port 442 to the receive circuit 460, the transmit circuit of the antenna 430, or one of the terminals 461, 462. For another example, one or more additional antennas may be provided, each selectively connected to a corresponding receive circuit or (possibly) a corresponding transmit circuit or one or more corresponding terminals. Other numbers of terminals may be used to couple to the antenna (e.g., Figure 5 As shown). Still other configurations are possible. As another example, in some scenarios (e.g., UL-MIMO (uplink multiple input multiple output) or EN-DC), multiple transmit antennas may, for example, concurrently transmit signals from corresponding transmit circuits. The gain of one or more of these transmit antennas may benefit from the detuning of one or more coupled antennas. As another example, one or more frequency bands (e.g., PCC (primary component carrier) and / or SCC (secondary component carrier)) and one or more receive / antenna paths may be determined for implementing a call. The selection of which component carrier(s) and / or which receive / antenna path(s) may affect which terminal(s) are connected to one or more corresponding antennas. As another example, there may be exceptions when detuning is implemented on the first antenna while a transmit signal is being transmitted by the second antenna (e.g., when there is little or no coupling between the antennas (e.g., due to the transmit frequency and the frequency range for which the first antenna is designed)). For example, processor 470 may determine that an exception exists and therefore not transmit any of control signals 474 to cause detuning of any antenna, or may transmit control signal 474 to disable or turn off detuning, or may transmit control signal 474 indicating that switch operation should remain constant (e.g., remain open) in response to a trigger. For another example, hardware switch controller 480 may determine not to detune in response to one or more exceptions to detuning as indicated by control signal 474 (e.g., based on a mapping of transceiver conditions to detuning actions, if any).

[0042] Also refer to Figure 5, another example wireless communication device 500 includes a MUX 510 (multiplexer) configured to selectively couple antennas 521, 522, 523, 524 to corresponding transceivers 531, 533 and receivers 532, 534. Antenna 521 can be selectively coupled to a transmitter or a receiver of transceiver 531, or to any of three terminals 540 via MUX 560 and switch 511. For example, when antenna 523 is used to transmit a signal, antenna 521 can be coupled to one of the terminals 540. Antenna 522 can be selectively coupled to receiver 532, or to any of three terminals 550 via MUX 560 and switch 512. Terminal 550 may include, for example, a short circuit, an open circuit, and an intermediate impedance between the impedance of the short circuit and the impedance of the open circuit. Each of the antennas 521 to 524 may be coupled to a corresponding one of the transceivers 531, 533 or the receivers 532, 534, or to a corresponding terminal, such as when another antenna is transmitting, via the MUX 560 and the corresponding switches 511, 512, 513, 514. The combination of the MUX 560 and one or more switches of the switches 511 to 514 (when appropriate) may couple any of the antennas 521 to 524 to one or more transceivers of the transceivers 531, 533 and / or one or more receivers of the receivers 532, 534. Similarly, the combination of the MUX 560 and one or more switches of the switches 511 to 514 (when appropriate) may couple any of the transceivers 531, 533 or any of the receivers 532, 534 to one or more of the antennas 521 to 524. MUX 560 is optional, for example, antennas 521 to 524 (or corresponding intermediate circuits) may be respectively coupled to switches 511, 514. MUX 510 and possible portions of one or more of transceivers 531, 533 and / or possible portions of one or more of receivers 532, 534 may be provided in an ASM.

[0043] Apart from Figure 5 Configurations of wireless communication devices other than those shown are possible. For example, different antennas may have different terminal impedances that can be used for coupling. Figure 5 In the embodiment, antennas 521 and 522 both have available terminals T1, T2, T3, but in other configurations, different antennas may share some but not all terminal values (e.g., antenna 521 has available terminals T1, T2, T3 and antenna 522 has available terminals T1, T2, T4), or may not share terminal values (e.g., antenna 521 has available terminals T1, T2, T3 and antenna 522 has available terminals T4, T5).

[0044] Also refer to Figure 6, antennas 521 to 524 may be selectively coupled to corresponding circuits or terminals as shown in timing diagram 600. In this example, during time slots 1 and 3, all antennas are receiving and are therefore connected to corresponding receivers. During time slot 2, antenna 521 is transmitting, and antennas 522 to 524 are connected to terminals T1, T2, T2, respectively. During time slot 4, antenna 521 is transmitting, and antennas 522 to 524 are coupled to terminals T2, T2, and T3, respectively. When antenna 521 transmits in time slots 2 and 4, antennas 522, 524 are coupled to different terminals. This may be due to, for example, antenna 521 transmitting signals of different frequencies in these two time slots, so that different terminals provide better reflected input impedance at antennas 522, 524 during different transmissions of antenna 521. Other configurations of wireless communication devices may also be used.

[0045] Also refer to Figure 7 , timing diagram 700 shows that the switching of the terminal of the coupled antenna is aligned in time with the TDM time slot (here, the TDD transmit / receive time slot of the other antenna). The terminal can be switched during the time protection 710 of the time slot (such as during the cyclic prefix that appears at the beginning of each LTE / 5G NR time slot). For example, for antenna 521, the time protection extends from time t1 to time t4. Antenna 522 transitions from being coupled to the receiving circuit to being coupled to terminal T1 between time t2 and t3. Time protection 710 is completed at time t4 after time t3, so that antenna 522 is connected to the terminal before the transmission of the transmit signal, and remains connected to the terminal during the entire time when the transmit signal is transmitted (at least before antenna 521 is used for another purpose such as reception) (here from time t4 until the end of time slot 2). The switching of antenna terminals in response to the TDM time slot is aligned in time because the transition of antenna 522 to the terminal corresponding to the new mode is completed (here at time t3) before the time protection 710 and the transmission of the transmit signal (here Tx mode at time t4) are completed, so that there is no connection of the antenna to the LNA during the transmission of the transmit signal.

[0046] Also refer to Figure 8 , the wireless communication device 800, which is an example of the wireless communication device 400, includes elements for implementing TDM detuning (in this example, TDD detuning). These elements include a TDD framework transmission system 810, a software algorithm 820, N detunable receivers 830, a module register 840, and a switch implementation 850. The TDD framework transmission system 810 includes one or more components for implementing TDD corresponding to the TDD network in which the wireless communication device 800 operates (e.g., the switch 471 and the control thereof by the processor 470). The following is relative to Fig.10The software algorithm is further discussed and is configured to determine whether to detune the receiver and to detune the receiver appropriately. The software algorithm 820 is an example implementation and is not intended to be limiting; similar functionality may be implemented in firmware, hardware / circuitry, etc., or in combination thereof. The N detunable receivers 830 include one or more receivers, each corresponding to a corresponding antenna for signal reception, or corresponding to a desired terminal for providing an input impedance at the antenna to suppress absorption of a transmit signal from a transmit antenna. For example, the N detunable receivers 830 may be a receiving circuit 460, or a receiver of a receiver 532, 534, and a transceiver 533. The module register 840 stores settings for implementing desired antenna connections. The switch implementation 850 is a physical implementation of a switch for implementing TDD and for selectively coupling a receive antenna to a receive circuit or a desired terminal.

[0047] refer to Fig. 9 And further reference Figure 4 and Figure 5 , the switch implementation 900 is an example of selective coupling of an antenna to a desired circuit or desired terminal. In this example, the switch implementation 900 is configured to connect the antenna 910 to any of four detuned terminals having different detuned impedances (here, open circuit impedance, short circuit impedance, first intermediate impedance, or second intermediate impedance). For the open state, switches 920, 930 are set to be open (as shown). For the short circuit state, switch 920 is closed (to connect the antenna 910 to ground 940) and switch 930 is open, or switch 920 is open, switch 930 is closed, and switches 950, 960 are closed. For the first intermediate impedance state, switches 920, 960 are open, switch 970 is open, and switches 930, 950 are closed, thereby connecting the antenna 910 to ground through resistor 980. For the second intermediate impedance state, switches 920, 950 are open, and switches 930, 970 are closed, thereby connecting the antenna 910 to ground through capacitor 990.

[0048] refer to Fig.10 And further reference Figure 4 and Figure 5, method 1000 of semi-autonomous detuning (e.g., by hardware switch controller 480) includes the stages shown. However, method 1000 is an example and not a limitation. Method 1000 may be modified, for example, by adding, removing, rearranging, combining, executing concurrently, and / or splitting a single stage into multiple stages. At stage 1010, module initialization is performed, where antenna connection settings are set to values stored in memory. For example, hardware switch controller 480 may receive settings from a modem and store the settings in a memory of hardware switch controller 480 (e.g., in a register set, etc.). Hardware switch controller 480 may set the connection of switch 472 to an initial connection based on the settings. At stage 1020, an inquiry is made as to whether there is any signal transmission from any antenna other than the antenna that may be detuned (e.g., from antenna 420 of device 400). If not, method 1000 proceeds to stage 1030, where any detuning connections are removed, after which method 1000 returns to stage 1010. If there is (or will be) a signal to transmit (possibly indicated by disabling a receive state), method 1000 proceeds to stage 1040, where a query is made as to whether detuning is currently enabled and triggered. If not, method 1000 returns to stage 1020. If detuning is enabled and triggered, method 1000 proceeds to stage 1050, where detuning is achieved, for example, by controller 480 actuating switch 472 to couple antenna port 442 to a desired terminal of terminals 461, 462 (according to the register settings established at stage 1010). Method 1000 returns to stage 1020 so that detuning can continue until the transmission is terminated. Other methods of operation according to the various configurations described above are also possible. For example, in some examples, stages 1020 and / or 1030 may be removed or incorporated into stage 1040. In some such examples, the hardware switch controller 480 simply monitors for a trigger (e.g., by determining whether a specific LNA disable or module disable signal has been received or asserted), and applies the appropriate detuning (starting at stage 1010). When the trigger is no longer met (e.g., enabling the LNA or module), the hardware switch controller 480 removes the detuning.

[0049] refer to Fig.11 And further reference Figures 1 to 10 , the method 1100 for antenna detuning includes the stages shown. However, the method 1100 is an example and not a limitation. The method 1100 can be modified, for example, by adding, removing, rearranging, combining, performing concurrently, and / or splitting a single stage into multiple stages.

[0050] At stage 1110, method 1100 includes time domain duplexing of signal transmission and signal reception of a first antenna of a wireless communication device. For example, transceiver 450 performs time domain duplexing of signal transmission from transmission circuit 452 through switch 471, antenna port 441, intermediate circuit 422, and antenna 420, and signal reception in reception circuit 454 from switch 471, antenna port 441, intermediate circuit 422, and antenna 420. Transceiver 450 in combination with switch 471 may include means for time domain duplexing of signal transmission and signal reception of a first antenna.

[0051] At stage 1120, method 1100 includes providing one or more first indications of time domain duplexing and one or more second indications of signal transmission to a semi-autonomous hardware controller of the wireless communication device. For example, processor 470 provides a transmit control signal 474 and a receive control signal 478 instructing the operation of receive circuit 460, which corresponds to the timing of signal transmission of transceiver 450 and transmit parameters (e.g., frequency, antenna), transmit parameters of decoding, etc. Processor 470 (e.g., processor 315, possibly combined with memory 316) may include means for providing one or more first indications of time domain duplexing and one or more second indications of signal transmission.

[0052] At stage 1130, method 1100 includes, at a semi-autonomous hardware controller of the wireless communication device, responding to one or more first indications of time domain duplexing and one or more second indications of signal transmission by coupling a second antenna of the wireless communication device to a receiving circuit during signal reception of the first antenna and coupling the second antenna of the wireless communication device to a terminal during signal transmission of the first antenna. For example, hardware switch controller 480 uses the timing of signal transmission and possibly one or more transmission parameters (decoded parameters or actual parameters, such as frequency and / or transmit antenna) to (e.g., optimally) reflect (from among possible terminals) a transmit signal incident on antenna 430 by coupling antenna port 442 to receiving circuit 460 or a terminal (here, one of terminals 461, 462).

[0053] Implementations of method 1100 may include one or more of the following features. In an example implementation, coupling of the second antenna to the receiving circuit and to the terminal is time-aligned with time domain duplexing of signal transmission and signal reception to the first antenna. For example, antenna port 442 is coupled to one of terminals 461, 462 during the entire time that the transmit signal is transmitted. In another example implementation, coupling of the second antenna to the terminal is responsive to a disable signal indicating disabling of the receiving circuit. For example, hardware switch controller 480 may be responsive to a trigger signal, such as an indication for disabling the LNA of receiving circuit 460, to couple antenna port 442 to one of terminals 461, 462. In another example implementation, coupling of the second antenna to the terminal is responsive to a disable signal indicating disabling of an antenna switch module of the wireless communication device. For example, hardware switch controller 480 may be responsive to a trigger signal, such as an indication for disabling the entire ASM including receiving circuit 460.

[0054] Additionally or alternatively, implementations of method 1100 may include one or more of the following features. In an example implementation, coupling the second antenna to the terminal includes coupling the second antenna to one of the plurality of terminals based on one or more second indications sent by the signal, wherein the plurality of terminals correspond to a plurality of gains of the first antenna, and wherein coupling the second antenna to one of the plurality of terminals couples the second antenna to a selected terminal of the plurality of terminals having a highest gain among the plurality of gains of the first antenna. For example, based on one or more transmission characteristics (e.g., transmission antenna and / or transmission frequency, etc.), the hardware switch controller 480 may selectively couple the antenna port 442 to the terminals 461, 462 that bring the best gain (the best gain among the possible gains corresponding to the terminals 461, 462) to the antenna 420. For another example, based on one or more transmission characteristics (e.g., transmission antenna and / or transmission frequency, etc.), the hardware switch controller corresponding to the antenna 524 may selectively couple the antenna 524 to the terminal among the terminals T1, T2, T3, T4 that brings the best gain (the best gain among the possible gains corresponding to the terminals T1, T2, T3, T4) to the antenna 521. In another example implementation, the plurality of terminals includes a short circuit, an open circuit, and an intermediate terminal having an impedance between the short circuit impedance and the open circuit impedance.

[0055] refer to Fig.12 And further reference Figure 4, the antenna switch device 1200 includes a switch controller 1210 and a switch 1220. The switch controller 1210 may be, for example, a hardware switch controller similar to the hardware switch controller 480. The switch controller 1210 is communicatively coupled to the switch 1220, and the switch controller 1210 and the switch 1220 are configured to provide sufficiently fast switching to be time-aligned or time-synchronized with the TDM switching of the transceiver and the corresponding switch (e.g., the transceiver 450 and the switch 471). The switch 1220 includes an antenna port 1221 configured to be communicatively coupled to the antenna 1230, and a receive port 1222 configured to be communicatively coupled to the receive circuit 1240. Ports 1221, 1222 may be physical connectors (e.g., if antenna switch device 1200 is a separate unit or module, or switch 1220 is a component of a module) or may be virtual ports, such as any point along a transmit line that connects switch 1220 to antenna 1230 (e.g., via an intermediate circuit) and receive circuit 1240. As shown, switch 1220 is a single-pole, single-throw switch that can connect antenna port 1221 to receive port 1222 or disconnect antenna port 1221 from receive port 1222.

[0056] The switch controller 1210 is communicatively coupled to the switch 1220 and is configured to control the switch 1220 to selectively couple the antenna port 1221 to the receive port 1222 or to decouple the antenna port 1221 from the receive port 1222. For example, the switch controller 1210 may be configured to cause the switch 1220 to switch decouple the antenna port 1221 from the receive port 1222 in response to receipt of the receive circuit disable signal 1250 by transmitting a control signal 1260 to the switch 1220. The receive circuit disable signal 1250 may have a variety of contents, such as an explicit instruction to decouple the ports 1221, 1222. For another example, the receive circuit disable signal 1250 may include an implicit instruction to decouple the ports 1221, 1222, such as a receive circuit disable signal (e.g., an LNA disable signal, an ASM disable signal, or another signal for disabling one or more components of the receive circuit 1240), or one or more indications of signal transmission of an antenna other than the antenna 1230. When the switch 1220 decouples the ports 1221 and 1222 , the switch 1220 may provide an open circuit impedance.

[0057] Also refer to Fig.13, the antenna switch device 1300 includes a switch controller 1310, a switch 1320, and at least one terminal impedance, here a terminal impedance 1330. The switch controller 1310 is configured to cause the switch 1320 to couple the antenna port 1321 to the receiving port 1322 for signal reception and processing. The switch controller 1310 is configured to control the switch 1320 in response to receiving the receiving circuit disable signal 1340 so that the switch 1320 decouples the antenna port 1321 from the receiving port 1322, for example, coupling the antenna port to at least one terminal port, here a terminal port 1331 (which is communicatively coupled to the terminal impedance 1330), or possibly not coupling to the receiving port 1322 nor to the terminal port 1331. Other example antenna switch devices may include more than one terminal impedance. For example, an embodiment of the antenna switch device 1300 may include a termination impedance 1330 and a termination impedance 1350 communicatively coupled to a termination port 1351, and the switch 1320 may be configured to couple the antenna port 1321 to the receiving port 1322 or to any of the termination ports 1331, 1351 of a corresponding one of the termination impedances 1330, 1350, or may be coupled to neither the receiving port 1322 nor any of the termination ports 1331, 1351. The switch controller (e.g., the switch controller 1310) may be configured to cause the switch (e.g., the switch 1310) to couple the antenna port (e.g., the antenna port 1321) to a selected one of the at least one termination port (e.g., the termination port 1331), and thus to a selected one of the at least one termination impedance (e.g., the termination impedance 1330). In an embodiment having multiple terminal impedances (e.g., terminal impedances 1330, 1350), switch controller 1310 may be configured to select which of the multiple terminal ports (e.g., terminal port 1331 and terminal port 1351 communicatively coupled to terminal impedance 1350) causes switch 1320 to couple to antenna port 1321 based on one or more indications received by switch controller 1310. For example, the one or more indications may include one or more indications of signal transmission, such as one or more transmission parameters of signal transmission with an antenna other than the antenna electrically coupled to antenna port 1321. For another example, the one or more indications may include one or more call setup communications or at least a portion of one or more call setup communications.

[0058] refer to Fig.14 And further reference Figure 4, the wireless communication device 1400 (such as any of the wireless communication devices 400, 500, 800) includes a receiving circuit 1410, a modem 1420, a transmitting circuit 1430, and an antenna switch or antenna switch module 1440. The antenna switch or antenna switch module 1440 is communicatively coupled to the receiving circuit 1410, the modem 1420, and the transmitting circuit 1430. The modem 1420 includes a processor 1422 and is communicatively coupled to the receiving circuit 1410 and the transmitting circuit 1430, but the receiving circuit 1410 and the transmitting circuit 1430 may be provided in a semiconductor chip physically separate from a system on a chip (SoC) including the modem 1420. The modem 1420 may modulate a data packet into a modulated data packet (e.g., at a baseband frequency) and provide the modulated data packet to the transmitting circuit 1430. The transmitting circuit 1430 may convert the modulated data packet into an RF packet at a radio frequency and provide the RF packet to one or more antennas (e.g., the antenna 420) for transmission. The receiving circuit 1410 may receive RF data packets from one or more antennas (e.g., antenna 430) and provide corresponding modulated data packets (e.g., at baseband frequency) to the modem 1420 which may demodulate the modulated data packets. The transmitting circuit 1430 may be configured to transmit outbound signals for transmission by one or more antennas of the wireless communication device 1400. The receiving circuit 1410 may be configured to receive inbound signals from an antenna of the wireless communication device 1400 that is different from the antenna that transmits the outbound signals. The modem 1420 may include multiple physically separate devices. The modem 1420 may (similar to the processor 315) include a processor 1422 and a memory 1424 containing processor-readable instructions that the processor may read and execute to perform appropriate modulation and / or demodulation functions.

[0059] The modem 1420 (e.g., the processor 1422) may be configured to send a first subset and a second subset of possible transmit parameter values for the wireless communication device to the antenna switch or antenna switch module 1440 of the wireless communication device 1400 at different times. The antenna switch or antenna switch module 1440 may selectively detune or re-detune the antenna from which the inbound signal is received based on the first subset or the second subset of possible transmit parameter values, respectively, during a call. For example, there may be many possible transmit frequencies and / or transmit antennas (e.g., a single transmit antenna (i.e., the antenna currently transmitting a signal, although the same antenna may be used for signal reception) or a combination of transmit antennas). The modem 1420 may provide a subset of these that corresponds to the current use of the wireless communication device 1400 (e.g., which antenna(s) are transmitting and at what frequency). In some examples, processor 1422 and antenna switch or antenna switch module 1440 work together such that processor 1422 determines a first subset of information such that antenna switch or antenna switch module 1440 can effectively connect the antenna (e.g., connect to a receive circuit or detune an impedance) when appropriate, and antenna switch or antenna switch module 1440 can make the appropriate connection (e.g., detune) without further instructions from the processor until a second subset of information is received. Antenna switch or antenna switch module 1440 can detune the antenna and re-detune the antenna based on one or more instructions to disable receive circuit 1410.

[0060] Modem 1420 (e.g., processor 1422) may send one or more indications of signal transmissions on a slot-by-slot basis. For example, modem 1420 may send a subset of values as a first indication of signal transmission corresponding to a first slot, send a second indication of a lack of transmission (e.g., an indication of reception using a transmit antenna) corresponding to a second slot, and send a third indication of signal transmission corresponding to a third slot. For example, the third indication may simply be an indication of signal transmission without including a subset of parameter values, and the parameter values may be assumed to be the same as a recent subset of possible transmission parameter values communicated by modem 1420. As another example, the first indication and / or the third indication may be an indication of a decode of a subset of possible transmission parameter values.

[0061] The receiving circuit 1410, the transmitting circuit 1430 and the modem 1420 (e.g., the processor 1422) may be configured to perform TDD that alternates between signal transmission and signal reception. The modem 1420 may send one or more indications of signal transmission for each of a plurality of signal transmissions. For example, the one or more indications of signal transmission may include a subset of possible transmission parameter values (which may be an indication of the decoding of the parameter values). For another example, the one or more indications of signal transmission may be independent of possible transmission parameter values, for example, may generally be a simple indication of signal transmission (e.g., a binary transmission / non-transmission indication, or a binary transmission / reception indication). The modem 1420 may send one or more indications of signal transmission disabling for each of a plurality of signal receptions (e.g., through an antenna for signal transmission). For example, the one or more indications of signal transmission disabling may include one or more explicit indications of disabling the receiving circuit 1410 (e.g., completely disabling the receiving circuit 1410 or disabling a component of the receiving circuit 1410).

[0117] Other considerations

[0118] Other examples and implementations are within the scope of this disclosure and the appended claims. For example, configurations other than those shown may be used. In addition, due to the nature of software and computers, the functions described above may be implemented using software executed by a processor, hardware, firmware, hard wiring, or any combination thereof. Features that implement the functions may also be physically located at different locations, including being distributed so that various parts of the functions are implemented at different physical locations.

[0119] As used herein, the singular forms "a", "an" and "the" also include the plural forms, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. As used herein, the terms "comprises", "includes" and "comprising" specify the presence of stated features, integers, steps, operations, elements and / or components, but do not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, integers, steps, operations, elements, components and / or groups thereof.

[0120] Similarly, as used herein, "or" used in a list of items (possibly followed by "at least one of" or followed by "one or more of") indicates a disjunctive list, so that, for example, a list of "at least one of A, B, or C", or a list of "one or more of A, B, or C", or a list of "A or B or C" means A or B or C or AB (A and B) or AC (A and C) or BC (B and C) or ABC (i.e., A and B and C), or a combination of more than one feature (e.g., AA, AAB, ABBC, etc.). Thus, a statement that an item (e.g., a processor) is configured to perform a function with respect to at least one of A or B, or a statement that an item is configured to perform function A or function B means that the item can be configured to perform the function with respect to A, or can be configured to perform the function with respect to B, or can be configured to perform the functions with respect to both A and B. For example, the phrase "a processor configured to measure at least one of A or B" or "a processor configured to measure A or measure B" means that the processor may be configured to measure A (and may or may not be configured to measure B), or may be configured to measure B (and may or may not be configured to measure A), or may be configured to measure A and measure B (and may be configured to select which of A and B to measure or to measure both). Similarly, the recitation of a means for measuring at least one of A or B includes: a means for measuring A (which may or may not be able to measure B), or a means for measuring B (and may or may not be configured to measure A), or a means for measuring A and B (which may be able to select which of A and B to measure or to measure both). For another example, a statement that an item (e.g., a processor) is configured to perform at least one of function X or function Y means that the item may be configured to perform function X, or may be configured to perform function Y, or may be configured to perform function X and function Y. For example, the phrase "a processor configured to measure at least one of X or Y" means that the processor may be configured to measure X (and may or may not be configured to measure Y), or may be configured to measure Y (and may or may not be configured to measure X), or may be configured to measure X and measure Y (and may be configured to select which one of X and Y to measure or to measure both).

[0121] As used herein, unless otherwise stated, a statement that a function or operation is "based on" an item or condition means that the function or operation is based on the recited item or condition, and may be based on one or more items and / or conditions other than the recited item or condition.

[0122] Substantial variations may be made as required. For example, customized hardware may also be used, and / or specific elements may be implemented in hardware, software executed by a processor (including portable software, such as applets, etc.), or both. In addition, connections to other computing devices such as network input / output devices may be employed. Unless otherwise indicated, components (functional or otherwise) shown in the figures and / or discussed herein as being connected or communicating with each other are communicatively coupled. That is, these components may be connected directly or indirectly to enable communication between them.

[0123] The systems and devices discussed above are examples. Various configurations may appropriately omit, replace, or add various processes or components. For example, features described with respect to certain configurations may be combined in various other configurations. Different aspects and elements of a configuration may be combined in a similar manner. In addition, technology is constantly evolving, and therefore many of the elements are examples and do not limit the scope of the present disclosure or claims.

[0124] A wireless communication system is a system in which communications are transmitted wirelessly between wireless communication equipment (also called wireless communication equipment), that is, by propagation of electromagnetic waves and / or sound waves through the air space rather than by wires or other physical connections. A wireless communication system (also called a wireless communication network) may not have all communications transmitted wirelessly, but may be configured to have at least some communications transmitted wirelessly. In addition, the term "wireless communication device" or similar terms does not require that the functionality of the device be used exclusively or even primarily for communication, does not require that communications using the wireless communication device be exclusively or even primarily wireless, nor does it require that the device be a mobile device, but rather indicates that the device includes wireless communication capabilities (unidirectional or bidirectional), for example, including at least one radio component (each radio component is part of a transmitter, receiver or transceiver) for wireless communication.

[0125] Specific details are given in this specification to provide a thorough understanding of example configurations (including specific implementations). However, the configuration can be practiced without these specific details. For example, well-known circuits, processes, algorithms, structures, and techniques have been shown without unnecessary details to avoid confusing the configuration. This specification provides example configurations and does not limit the scope, applicability, or configuration of the claims. On the contrary, the previous description of the configuration provides a description for implementing the technology. Various changes can be made to the function and arrangement of the elements.

[0126] As used herein, the terms "processor-readable medium," "machine-readable medium," and "computer-readable medium" refer to any medium that participates in providing data that causes a machine to operate in a particular manner. Using a computing platform, various processor-readable media may be involved in providing instructions / codes to a processor for execution, and / or may be used to store and / or carry such instructions / codes (e.g., as signals). In many specific implementations, processor-readable media are physical and / or tangible storage media. Such media may take many forms, including, but not limited to, non-volatile media and volatile media. Non-volatile media include, for example, optical disks and / or magnetic disks. Volatile media include, but are not limited to, dynamic memory.

[0127] After describing several example configurations, various modifications, alternative constructions, and equivalents may be used. For example, the above elements may be components of a larger system, in which other rules may take precedence over the application of the present disclosure or otherwise modify the application of the present disclosure. In addition, multiple operations may be taken before, during, or after considering the above elements. Therefore, the above description does not limit the scope of the claims.

[0128] Unless otherwise indicated, "about" and / or "approximately" as used herein in reference to a measurable value (such as an amount, a duration of time, etc.) encompasses variations of ±20% or ±10%, ±5%, or +0.1% from the specified value, as appropriate in the context of the systems, devices, circuits, methods, and other specific implementations described herein. Unless otherwise indicated, "substantially" as used herein in reference to a measurable value (such as an amount, a duration of time, a physical property (such as frequency), etc.) also encompasses variations of ±20% or ±10%, ±5%, or +0.1% from the specified value, as appropriate in the context of the systems, devices, circuits, methods, and other specific implementations described herein.

[0129] A statement that a value exceeds (or is greater than or above) a first threshold is equivalent to a statement that the value meets or exceeds a second threshold that is slightly greater than the first threshold, e.g., the second threshold is one value higher than the first threshold at the resolution of the computing system. A statement that a value is less than (or within or below) a first threshold is equivalent to a statement that the value is less than or equal to a second threshold that is slightly less than the first threshold, e.g., the second threshold is one value lower than the first threshold at the resolution of the computing system.
