Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present invention relates to an angle connector, and in particular to a connector which is engaged with a counterpart connector along an engagement axis. Background Art

[0002] Conventionally, in connectors mounted on a substrate, a connector is used that is mated with a mating connector along a mating axis parallel to the mounting surface of the substrate. Fig.13 As shown, a so-called angle connector having an upper contact 1 and a lower contact 2 that are bent respectively is disclosed. The upper contact 1 and the lower contact 2 are respectively accommodated in insulating cylindrical housings 3 and 4, and the housings 3 and 4 are further accommodated in conductive cylindrical shells 5 and 6. In addition, the angle connector is mounted on a substrate 7.

[0003] like Fig.14 As shown, the upper contact 1 is formed by a metal plate having a roughly L-shape, and comprises: a horizontal extension portion 1A, extending in a straight line in the mating direction with the other side connector; a contact portion 1B, extending in a straight line from the front end of the horizontal extension portion 1A toward the front along the mating direction; a lower extension portion 1C, extending in a straight line downward from the rear end of the horizontal extension portion 1A; and a mounting portion 1D, protruding downward from the lower end of the lower extension portion 1C and connected to the corresponding circuit pattern of the substrate 7.

[0004] The horizontally extending portion 1A is press-fitted into the through-hole 3A of the housing 3 until the downwardly extending portion 1C comes into contact with the housing 3 , whereby the upper contact 1 is held by the housing 3 .

[0005] Similar to the upper contact 1, the lower contact 2 also has a horizontal extension portion 2A, a contact portion 2B, a downward extension portion 2C and a mounting portion 2D. The horizontal extension portion 2A is pressed into the through hole 4A of the shell 4 until the downward extension portion 2C abuts against the shell 4, thereby holding the lower contact 2 in the shell 4.

[0006] Furthermore, in the connector described in Patent Document 1, the characteristic impedance of the connector is adjusted by forming bulging portions 1E and 2E bulging backward on the lower extension portion 1C of the upper contact 1 and the lower extension portion 2C of the lower contact 2. The characteristic impedance of the connector can be adjusted by changing the bulging length of the bulging portions 1E and 2E. If the bulging length of the bulging portions 1E and 2E toward the rear is increased, the characteristic impedance becomes smaller. On the contrary, if the bulging length of the bulging portions 1E and 2E is reduced, the characteristic impedance becomes larger.

[0009] Patent Document 1: Japanese Patent Application Publication No. 2023-77187

[0010] However, the bulges 1E and 2E formed to adjust the characteristic impedance of the connector are located at a position that is offset downward toward the mounting portions 1D and 2D relative to the horizontal extension portions 1A and 2A that are pressed into the through holes 3A and 4A of the shells 3 and 4. Therefore, even if a tool is used to push the upper contact 1 and the lower contact 2 from the rear to the front relative to the shells 3 and 4, the postures of the upper contact 1 and the lower contact 2 become unstable, making it difficult to press the upper contact 1 and the lower contact 2.

[0011] That is, the connector of Patent Document 1 has a problem that it is not possible to achieve both adjustment of characteristic impedance and ease of assembly. Summary of the invention

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0054] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described based on the drawings.

[0055] Implementation Method 1

[0056] Figure 1 The angled coaxial connector 11 of the first embodiment is shown mounted on a substrate 21. The angled coaxial connector 11 is mated with a mating connector (not shown) along a mating axis C, and includes a contact 12, an inner insulator 13 surrounding the contact 12, a conductive shell 14 surrounding the inner insulator 13, and an outer insulator 15 surrounding the shell 14.

[0057] The external insulator 15 has a concave counterpart connector accommodating portion 15A. When the angle coaxial connector 11 is mated with the counterpart connector, a portion of the counterpart connector is inserted into and accommodated in the counterpart connector accommodating portion 15A, and a portion of each of the contact 12, the internal insulator 13 and the housing 14 is exposed in the counterpart connector accommodating portion 15A.

[0058] The angled coaxial connector 11 is mounted on the substrate 21 in a state where the outer insulator 15 is arranged on the surface of the substrate 21 .

[0059] Here, for convenience, the direction in which the surface of the substrate 21 extends along the XY plane and a part of the mating connector (not shown) is inserted into the mating connector receiving portion 15A of the external insulator 15 is referred to as the +Y direction, and the direction perpendicular to the surface of the substrate 21 is referred to as the Z direction. The Y direction is the direction in which the mating axis C extends.

[0060] Figure 2 1 shows an assembly diagram of the angle coaxial connector 11. Along the mating axis C, the first housing 16 is arranged on the +Y direction side of the outer insulator 15, the inner insulator 13 is arranged on the +Y direction side of the first housing 16, the contact 12 is arranged on the +Y direction side of the inner insulator 13, and the second housing 17 is arranged on the +Y direction side of the contact 12.

[0061] The inner insulator 13 and the outer insulator 15 constitute an insulating housing 18 that holds the contacts 12 , and the first shell 16 and the second shell 17 constitute a conductive housing 14 that is held in the housing 18 and surrounds the contacts 12 .

[0062] like Figure 3 As shown, the contact 12 is formed by a metal plate punched into a roughly L-shape, and has a press-in portion 12A extending linearly in the Y direction along the mating axis C, a contact portion 12B connected to the front end of the press-in portion 12A in the -Y direction, and a guide portion 12C connected to the base end of the press-in portion 12A in the +Y direction.

[0063] The contact portion 12B has a cylindrical shape extending linearly from the front end of the press-fit portion 12A along the fitting axis C in the −Y direction.

[0064] The guide portion 12C has a flat plate shape extending in the −Z direction orthogonal to the fitting axis C from the base end of the press-fit portion 12A.

[0065] The contact 12 further includes a pin-shaped mounting portion 12D that protrudes in the -Z direction from the leading end of the guide portion 12C in the -Z direction.

[0066] A press force receiving surface 12E is formed on the +Z direction end and the +Y direction end of the guide portion 12C. The press force receiving surface 12E extends along the XZ plane orthogonal to the fitting axis C and faces the +Y direction opposite to the contact portion 12B.

[0067] Here, the contact 12 is formed by punching a metal plate into an L shape instead of bending a metal plate into an L shape. Therefore, the contact 12 can be pressed into and held in the housing 18 by causing a pressing force along the fitting axis C to act on the pressing force receiving surface 12E located on the fitting axis C. In order for the pressing force along the fitting axis C to act on the pressing force receiving surface 12E, the pressing force receiving surface 12E preferably extends along the XZ plane orthogonal to the fitting axis C.

[0068] In addition, the contact 12 has an impedance adjusting portion 12F disposed between the press-fit force receiving surface 12E of the guide portion 12C and the mounting portion 12D. The impedance adjusting portion 12F is formed by cutting away the middle portion in the Z direction of the end surface of the guide portion 12C facing the +Y direction in the -Y direction at a position offset from the mating axis C in the -Z direction orthogonal to the mating axis C.

[0069] In this way, the pressing force receiving surface 12E and the impedance adjusting portion 12F are arranged at different positions in the Z direction orthogonal to the fitting axis C. Therefore, the shape of the pressing force receiving surface 12E for receiving the pressing force along the fitting axis C and the shape of the impedance adjusting portion 12F for matching the characteristic impedance can be optimized without interfering with each other.

[0070] like Figure 4 As shown, the width W1 of the guide portion 12C in the Y direction orthogonal to the Z direction in which the guide portion 12C extends is set to be wider than the width W2 of the contact portion 12B in the Z direction orthogonal to the fitting axis C and the maximum width W3 of the press-fit portion 12A.

[0071] like Figure 5 As shown, the internal insulator 13 includes a cylindrical portion 13A extending along the fitting axis C and an orthogonally extending portion 13B extending in the −Z direction orthogonal to the fitting axis C from a +Y direction portion of the cylindrical portion 13A.

[0072] like Figure 6 As shown in FIG. 1 , an insertion hole 13C is formed in the cylindrical portion 13A, which penetrates the inner insulator 13 along the fitting axis C and into which the press-fit portion 12A of the contact 12 is inserted. The insertion hole 13C has a width of Figure 4 The maximum width W3 of the press-fit portion 12A of the contact 12 shown is slightly narrower in the Z direction. In addition, a concave guide accommodating portion 13D communicating with the insertion hole 13C and opening in the +Y direction and -Z direction is formed in the +Y direction portion of the cylindrical portion 13A and the orthogonal extending portion 13B.

[0073] like Figure 7 As shown, the first housing 16 is formed of a bent sheet of metal plate, and has a cylindrical portion 16A extending along the fitting axis C and a front plate portion 16B extending from the +Y direction end of the cylindrical portion 16A along the XZ plane in the -Z direction. The +X direction end of the front plate portion 16B is bent in the -Y direction to form a fixing portion 16C extending in the -Y direction along the YZ plane. Figure 7 Although not shown, the -X direction end portion of the front plate portion 16B is also bent in the -Y direction similarly to the +X direction end portion, to form a fixing portion 16C extending in the -Y direction along the YZ plane.

[0074] like Figure 8 As shown, the second shell 17 is formed by a bent metal plate and has: a bent portion 17A, forming a part of a cylinder centered on the mating axis C; a rear plate portion 17B, extending along the XZ plane in a manner covering the +Y direction end of the bent portion 17A; and a pair of side plate portions 17C, extending from the +X direction end and -X direction end of the bent portion 17A along the YZ plane to the -Z direction respectively.

[0075] A plurality of spring contact portions 17D extending in the -Y direction are formed to protrude from the -Y direction end of the bent portion 17A, and a plurality of housing mounting portions 17E protruding in the -Z direction are formed from the -Z direction ends of the pair of side plate portions 17C.

[0076] Furthermore, the +X direction end and -X direction end of the rear plate 17B are bent in the -Y direction to form a fixing portion 17F extending in the -Y direction along the YZ plane. Similarly, the -Y direction ends of the pair of side plates 17C form fixing portions 17G protruding in the -Y direction along the YZ plane.

[0077] like Fig. 9 As shown in FIG. 1 , the external insulator 15 includes a housing body 15B having a rectangular parallelepiped shape and a rear cover 15C connected to the +Y direction end of the housing body 15B. A concave counterpart connector receiving portion 15A opened toward the -Y direction is formed inside the housing body 15B. A concave second housing receiving portion 15D communicating with the counterpart connector receiving portion 15A and opened toward the +Y direction and the -Z direction is formed inside the rear cover 15C.

[0078] When assembling the angled coaxial connector 11, first, the contact 12 is moved toward the inner insulator 13 from the +Y direction toward the -Y direction, and the contact 12 is held by the inner insulator 13. At this time, Figure 4The contact portion 12B and the press-fit portion 12A of the contact 12 shown are inserted into the insertion hole 13C of the internal insulator 13 along the interlocking axis C. For example, a tool not shown is used to apply a force in the -Y direction to the press-fit force bearing surface 12E of the contact 12 located on the interlocking axis C, thereby pressing the press-fit portion 12A into the insertion hole 13C.

[0079] Here, the impedance adjustment portion 12F of the contact 12 is not formed by bulging in the +Y direction from the end surface of the guide portion 12C facing the +Y direction as in the bulging portions 1E and 2E of the upper contact 1 and the lower contact 2 of the above-mentioned Patent Document 1, but is formed by cutting off the middle portion in the Z direction of the end surface of the guide portion 12C facing the +Y direction in the -Y direction. Therefore, by applying a force in the Y direction to the press-fit force receiving surface 12E without interfering with the impedance adjustment portion 12F using a tool not shown, the press-fit portion 12A can be press-fitted into the insertion hole 13C.

[0080] Furthermore, since the press-fitting force receiving surface 12E of the contact 12 is located on the fitting axis C and extends along the XZ plane orthogonal to the fitting axis C, stable press-fitting can be performed by causing a force in the −Y direction to act on the press-fitting force receiving surface 12E.

[0081] when Figure 4 The -Y direction end of the guide portion 12C shown is located at Figure 6 When the inner wall surface of the orthogonal extension portion 13B at the -Y direction end of the guide portion accommodating portion 13D of the inner insulator 13 shown in the figure abuts, the press-fitting operation of the press-fit portion 12A into the insertion hole 13C is completed. The contact portion 12B of the contact 12 is in a state of protruding from the insertion hole 13C of the inner insulator 13 in the -Y direction.

[0082] Next, the first housing 16 is moved toward the external insulator 15 from the +Y direction toward the -Y direction. Figure 7 The fixing portion 16C of the illustrated first housing 16 is press-fitted into a fixed portion (not shown) inside the outer insulator 15 , whereby the first housing 16 is held by the outer insulator 15 .

[0083] By moving the inner insulator 13 holding the contacts 12 from the +Y direction to the -Y direction relative to the first housing 16 held by the outer insulator 15, Figure 5 The cylindrical portion 13A of the inner insulator 13 shown is inserted into Figure 7 The cylindrical portion 16A of the first housing 16 is shown in a state where the orthogonally extending portion 13B of the inner insulator 13 is located on the +Y direction side of the front plate portion 16B of the first housing 16 .

[0084] Furthermore, by moving the second housing 17 from the +Y direction toward the -Y direction relative to the first housing 16, the +Y direction portion and the orthogonal extension portion 13B of the cylindrical portion 13A of the internal insulator 13 and the +Y direction end portion of the first housing 16 are covered by the second housing 17. The second housing 17 is held by the external insulator 15 by press-fitting the pair of fixing portions 17F and the pair of fixing portions 17G into the fixed portions (not shown) inside the external insulator 15, thereby completing the assembly of the angle coaxial connector 11.

[0085] Fig.10 The guide portion 12C of the contact 12 is accommodated in the guide portion accommodating portion 13D of the inner insulator 13 and is surrounded by the front plate portion 16B of the first housing 16 and the rear plate portion 17B and a pair of side plates 17C of the second housing 17.

[0086] Furthermore, the mounting portions 12D of the contacts 12 and the plurality of housing mounting portions 17E of the second housing 17 protrude from the outer insulator 15 in the −Z direction.

[0087] Fig.11 2 is a cross-sectional view of the angled coaxial connector 11 mounted on the substrate 21. The cylindrical portion 16A of the first housing 16 extends from the second housing accommodating portion 15D of the rear cover portion 15C to the mating connector accommodating portion 15A of the housing body portion 15B through the through hole 15F which is arranged at the boundary between the housing body portion 15B and the rear cover portion 15C of the external insulator 15 and is formed in the partition wall portion 15E along the XZ plane.

[0088] The contact 12 is inserted into the insertion hole 13C of the inner insulator 13 with the press-fit portion 12A inserted into the insertion hole 13C of the inner insulator 13 and the guide portion 12C accommodated in the guide portion accommodation portion 13D of the inner insulator 13 by the cylindrical portion 16A and the front plate portion 16B of the first housing 16 and the bent portion 17A, the rear plate portion 17B and the second housing 17. Fig.10 The illustrated pair of side plate portions 17C surrounds the housing.

[0089] The second housing 17 is electrically connected to the first housing 16 by a plurality of spring contact portions 17D elastically contacting the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical portion 16A of the first housing 16 .

[0090] The substrate 21 has a through hole 21A, which corresponds to the mounting portion 12D of the contact 12 and penetrates the substrate 21 in the Z direction, and a conductive layer such as a plating layer is formed on the inner wall surface; the mounting portion 12D of the contact 12 passes through the through hole 21A and is welded, thereby being electrically connected to the unillustrated wiring layer of the substrate 21 connected to the through hole 21A.

[0091] Similarly, the substrate 21 has a plurality of through holes corresponding to the plurality of case mounting portions 17E of the second case 17 . Each case mounting portion 17E passes through a corresponding through hole of the substrate 21 and is soldered, thereby being electrically connected to a ground layer (not shown) of the substrate 21 connected to the through hole.

[0092] The guide portion 12C of the contact 12 has an impedance adjusting portion 12F formed by cutting away the middle portion in the Z direction of the end surface of the guide portion 12C facing the +Y direction. Therefore, by selecting the depth in the Y direction and the length in the Z direction of the cutout in the impedance adjusting portion 12F, the characteristic impedance in the guide portion 12C can be adjusted, and the signal transmission characteristics can be improved to perform stable high-speed transmission.

[0093] The contact 12 is formed of a metal plate punched into an L shape, and has an impedance adjusting portion 12F formed by cutting away the end surface of the guide portion 12C facing the +Y direction at a position offset in the -Z direction from the mating axis C in the -Y direction. Therefore, the press-fit portion 12A can be press-fitted into the insertion hole 13C of the internal insulator 13 by causing the press-fitting force along the mating axis C to act on the press-fitting force receiving surface 12E located on the mating axis C without interfering with the impedance adjusting portion 12F, and the angular coaxial connector 11 can be easily assembled.

[0094] Furthermore, the press-fit force receiving surface 12E and the impedance adjusting portion 12F of the contact 12 are arranged at different positions along the Z direction orthogonal to the mating axis C, so that the shape optimization of the press-fit force receiving surface 12E and the shape optimization of the impedance adjusting portion 12F can be performed without interfering with each other.

[0095] That is, it is possible to achieve both adjustment of the characteristic impedance of the angled coaxial connector 11 and ease of assembly.

[0096] In the first embodiment, the housing 14 surrounding the internal insulator 13 is composed of two parts, the first housing 16 and the second housing 17 . However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and the internal insulator 13 may be surrounded by a housing composed of a single part.

[0097] However, as in the first embodiment, if the housing 14 is constituted by the first housing 16 and the second housing 17 , the angled coaxial connector 11 can be efficiently assembled.

[0098] Likewise, in the first embodiment, the housing 18 holding the contacts 12 is composed of two components, the inner insulator 13 and the outer insulator 15 . However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and the contacts 12 may be held by a housing composed of a single component.

[0099] However, as in the first embodiment, if the housing 18 is constituted by the internal insulator 13 and the external insulator 15 , the angled coaxial connector 11 can be efficiently assembled.

[0100] In the first embodiment, the guide portion 12C of the contact 12 extends from the base end of the press-fit portion 12A in the -Z direction perpendicular to the mating axis C. However, the direction is not limited to the direction perpendicular to the mating axis C. The guide portion 12C only needs to extend in a direction intersecting the mating axis C.

[0101] Implementation Method 2

[0102] In the first embodiment described above, the angular coaxial connector 11 is configured by applying the present invention to the coaxial connector, but the present invention is not limited thereto.

[0103] Fig.12 The following is an assembly diagram of an angle differential signal connector 31 according to Embodiment 2. Along the mating axis C, a first housing 36 is arranged on the +Y direction side of an external insulator 35, an internal insulator 33 is arranged on the +Y direction side of the first housing 36, a pair of contacts 32 are arranged on the +Y direction side of the internal insulator 33, and a second housing 37 is arranged on the +Y direction side of the pair of contacts 32.

[0104] The inner insulator 33 and the outer insulator 35 constitute an insulating housing 38 that holds the pair of contacts 32 , and the first shell 36 and the second shell 37 constitute a conductive housing 34 that is held in the housing 38 and surrounds the pair of contacts 32 .

[0105] The pair of contacts 32 is used to transmit a differential signal, and is configured to be held by the internal insulator 33 in a state where they are spaced a predetermined distance apart from each other in the X direction.

[0106] The pair of contacts 32 respectively have Figure 3 and Figure 4 That is, the contact 32 is formed of a metal plate punched into a substantially L-shape, and includes a press-fit portion extending linearly in the Y direction along the mating axis C, a contact portion connected to the front end in the -Y direction of the press-fit portion, a guide portion connected to the base end in the +Y direction of the press-fit portion, and a mounting portion protruding in the -Z direction from the front end in the -Z direction of the guide portion.

[0107] Furthermore, similar to the contact 12 in the first embodiment, a press force receiving surface located on the fitting axis C and facing the +Y direction and an impedance adjustment portion cut away in the -Y direction at a position deviated from the fitting axis C in the -Z direction is formed at the +Y direction end of the guide portion of the contact 32.

[0108] When assembling the angled differential signal connector 31, similarly to the angled coaxial connector 11 of the first embodiment, first, the pair of contacts 32 are held by the internal insulator 33. Next, the first housing 36 is held by the external insulator 35, and the internal insulator 33 holding the pair of contacts 32 is covered by the first housing 36 and the second housing 37, thereby assembling the angled differential signal connector 31.

[0109] Here, a pair of contacts 32 have impedance adjustment portions whose +Y direction ends of the guide portions are cut off toward the -Y direction at positions deviated from the mating axis C in the -Z direction. Therefore, without interfering with the impedance adjustment portion, a force along the mating axis C acts on a pressing force bearing surface located on the mating axis C, so that the contacts 32 can be pressed into and retained in the internal insulator 33, and the angular differential signal connector 31 can be easily assembled.

[0110] As described above, by applying the present invention to a differential signal connector, an angled differential signal connector 31 is constructed that can achieve both adjustment of characteristic impedance and ease of assembly.

[0111] In the second embodiment, the housing 34 surrounding the internal insulator 33 is also composed of two parts, the first housing 36 and the second housing 37 . However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and the internal insulator 33 may be surrounded by a housing composed of a single part.

[0112] Furthermore, the housing 38 holding the pair of contacts 32 is composed of two components, namely the inner insulator 33 and the outer insulator 35 . However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and the pair of contacts 32 may be held by a housing composed of a single component.
