The brake can assembly 200 includes a brake can and may also include any structure that secures the brake can 206 to the motorcycle 202, such as, for example, fasteners 210 and any other hardware, such as a mounting bracket. The motorcycle 202 includes a handlebar 216 and the brake can assembly 200 is secured to the handlebar by the fasteners 210.

[0021] In the illustrated embodiment, the mount 10 includes a mount body 12 and a pair of brackets 14 slidably engaged with each other for securing the mount body to the brake can assembly 200. The mount body 12 includes: a base cover 20; a stud plate 22 having a stud plate base 24 and a post 26; a cover 30; a pivot spacer 32; a pivot arm 34; a pair of pivot pins 36 engaged with the pivot arm; a head spacer 40; a head 42; a handheld electronic device mount 44; a mount body fastener 50 for securing one of the base cover 20, the stud plate 22, the cover 30, the pivot spacer 32, the pivot arm 34, and the pivot pin 36 together; and a mount body fastener 52 for securing the other of the pivot arm 34, the pivot pin 36, the head spacer 40, the head 42, and the handheld electronic device mount 44 together. The base cover 20, the stud plate 22, and the cover 30 form a base for the mount body 12. All of these components can have Figure 1- Figure 8 , or may have any other suitable configuration according to other embodiments of the present disclosure. According to other embodiments of the present disclosure, one or more of these components may also be removed. In the illustrated embodiment, fasteners 210 are existing components of brake can assembly 200, and mounting member 10 is secured to the brake can assembly using those existing fasteners. In other embodiments, fasteners 210 may be unique to mounting member 10 or may also be a component of the mounting member.

[0022] In the illustrated embodiment, the base cover 20 defines a cavity 60 and includes a pair of locking arms 64. The cavity 60 receives the stud plate base 24. The cover 30 includes a pair of locking protrusions 66 for engaging the locking arms 64. The post 26 of the base plate 22 defines a threaded hole 68 that threadedly engages the mount body fastener 50, and the cover 30 is positioned on the top of the bracket 14. The post 26 extends from the bottom of the bracket 14. The base cover 20 and the stud plate 22 are positioned on the bottom of the bracket 14. The locking arms 64 extend around the bracket 14 to secure the base cover 20, the stud plate 22, and the cover 30 to the bracket.

[0023] Each bracket 14 has a pair of arms 70 and 72 and a C-shaped end 74 at the distal end of the pair of arms. Each pair of arms 70 and 72 defines a slot 76 extending along the length of the arms. The slots 76 of the arms 70 and 72 are continuous when the bracket 14 engages and receives the post 26 of the stud plate 22. Each C-shaped end 74 includes a bottom protrusion 78 that defines an aperture 80 for receiving a corresponding fastener 210 that extends through the slot 76 for securing the corresponding bracket 14 to the brake can assembly 200. As a result, the bracket 24 can have a greater range of length adjustment than the prior art devices. This structure provides clearance to allow the mount body 12 to slide along the bracket 14 when installed to a smaller brake tank assembly. This may be useful for compact installation environments to position the mount body 12 away from surrounding motorcycle components, such as, for example, mirror bars and motorcycle controls. With such a structure, the fastener 210 is also shielded by the bracket 14.

[0025] The arms 70 and 72 of each bracket 14 are parallel to each other, but offset relative to each other so that arm 72 is positioned higher from the bottom protrusion 78 than arm 74. Because the bracket arms 70 and 72 are offset, the bracket 14 is neither left-handed nor right-handed, and can be installed from either side of the brake can assembly 200. The brackets 14 are slidably engaged with each other so that the length of the assembled bracket is adjustable to accommodate brake can assemblies 200 of different sizes and configurations. In one embodiment of the present disclosure, the bracket 14 can be adjustably positioned to have an assembled length anywhere between 38 mm and 70 mm during assembly.

[0026] Each arm 70 and 72 of each bracket 14 includes an inwardly extending stop 90 at the end of the arm distal from its respective C-shaped portion 74. The bottom of the cover 30 includes a curved extension that terminates in a stop protrusion 92 that engages the stop 90 when the bracket 14 is fully extended to prevent the bracket 14 from separating when the bracket is assembled to the extended mode.

[0027] The fastener 50 secures the base cover 20, the bracket 14, the stud plate 22, the cover 30, the pivot spacer 32, and the pivot arm 34 together. The fastener 50 extends through the cavity 100 defined by the pivot arm 34, the hole 102 defined by one of the pivot pins 36, the hole 104 defined by the pivot spacer; the hole 106 defined by the cover 32 and enters the threaded hole 68 defined by the post 26 and is threadedly engaged to the post 26 to secure these components together. According to other embodiments of the present disclosure, these components can be assembled together in any other manner.

[0028] The fastener 52 secures the pivot arm 34, the head spacer 40, the head 42, and the electronic handheld device mount 44 together. The fastener 52 extends through the cavity 102 of the pivot arm 34, through the hole 104 defined by the head spacer 40, and the threaded hole 106 defined by the head 42 to secure these components together. The mount body 12 also includes a bolt 94 that secures the components of the handheld electronic device mount 44 together. During assembly, the base cover 20, the stud plate 22, and the cover 30 are secured together and slidable relative to the bracket 14 to allow the mount body 12 to be adjustably positioned relative to the bracket.
