Abstract

A system for controlling exhaust emissions from an internal combustion engine (10), the system comprising: a catalyst device (31) for purifying exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine; Means (S103) for determining that the catalyst device is in a lean state; characterized by Means (S106 etc.) for suppressing an amount of NO x contained in the exhaust emission from the internal combustion engine, wherein the suppression means is actuated when the determining means determines that the catalyst device (31) is in the lean state and when the internal combustion engine (10) is operated at a load higher than a predetermined level, wherein the suppression means (S106, etc.) determines an amount of NO x -Suppression according to a driving speed (SPD) of the vehicle on which the internal combustion engine is mounted.
