Description

TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] An exemplary embodiment of the present invention relates to an activation system for a fuel cell stack. More specifically, the present invention relates to a fuel cell stack activation device capable of automatically implementing activation and performance evaluation processes for a fuel cell stack. BACKGROUND

[0002] Generally, a fuel cell includes an electrode for generating an electrochemical reaction with a fuel and an oxidizer, a polymer electrolyte membrane for transferring protons generated by the reaction, and a separator (commonly referred to in the industry as a "separation plate") for supporting the electrode and the polymer electrolyte membrane.

[0003] Polymer electrolyte fuel cells have received particular attention as a fuel cell for vehicles. Compared with other types of fuel cells, polymer electrolyte fuel cells have advantages such as high efficiency, high current density, high output density, and high power density. They also have a short start-up time, are corrosion-resistant, and do not require electrolyte management because they use a polymer electrolyte.

[0004] The global automotive industry is also actively researching polymer electrolyte fuel cells because the polymer electrolyte fuel cell is an environmentally friendly power source that emits only water as exhaust gas.

[0005] The polymer electrolyte fuel cell can generate electrical energy while producing water and heat through an electrochemical reaction between fuel, including hydrogen, and an oxidizer, such as air.

[0006] That is, in the polymer electrolyte fuel cell, the supplied fuel is separated into protons and electrons in the anode catalyst, and the separated protons are transferred to the cathode through a polymer electrolyte membrane. In this way, the separated protons combine with an supplied oxidant and electrons, which are absorbed by an external conductor, generating electrical energy while producing water.

[0007] To achieve a high potential in an actual fuel cell for a vehicle, unit cells are stacked depending on the required potential. The stacked unit cells are referred to as a stack.

[0008] The electrode of a fuel cell comprises a mixture of hydrogen ion carriers and a catalyst. During initial operation after a fuel cell has been manufactured, the activity of electrochemical reactions may be low.

[0009] The reason is that reactants cannot reach the catalyst because the moving path of reactants is blocked, the hydrogen ion carriers forming a three-phase boundary are not easily hydrolyzed in the initial actuation, and it is difficult to ensure the continuous mobility of hydrogen ions and electrons.

[0010] For this reason, an activation and performance evaluation process must be carried out on the fuel cells to ensure maximum performance of the fuel cells after the fuel cells are assembled into a fuel cell stack, that is, an electrical generation unit of the fuel cells comprising a membrane electrode assembly including an electrode and a polymer electrolyte membrane and a separator.

[0011] One objective of activation and performance evaluation is to remove residual impurities flowing in a manufacturing process of a membrane electrode assembly and a fuel cell stack, to activate sites that do not contribute to a reaction, to ensure a movement passage in which reactants can move to a catalyst, and to ensure hydrogen ion passage by sufficiently hydrolyzing an electrolyte in the polymer electrolyte membrane and an electrode.

[0012] Fuel cell activation is performed in different ways depending on the fuel cell manufacturer, but a main activation method is long-term actuation at a specific voltage.

[0013] After a stack of a plurality of fuel cells has been manufactured, conventional fuel cell activation equipment can perform activation and performance evaluation operations on the fuel cell by supplying fuel and an oxidizer to the fuel cells, applying electrical energy generated by the fuel cells to an electronic load device, and checking cell voltages.

[0014] In the activation and performance evaluation process of the fuel cell stack, the connectors of a voltage measuring equipment are connected to terminals respectively protruding from the fuel cells of the fuel cell stack, an output cable connected to an electronic load device is connected to the output terminals of the fuel cell stack on both sides, and a fluid supply line for supplying fluids (for example, hydrogen, air, and a coolant) to the fuel cells of the fuel cell stack is connected to the manifold of the fuel cell stack.

[0015] In the process of connecting the connectors of the voltage measurement equipment to the respective terminals protruding from the fuel cells of the fuel cell stack, the connectors and terminals of the fuel cells are manually connected. Accordingly, with the conventional technique, since the connectors of the voltage measurement equipment are manually connected to the terminals of the fuel cells of the fuel cell stack, processability may be limited, the time required to connect the connectors and terminals may be excessively long, and the fuel cell stack may be damaged when connecting the connectors to the terminals.

[0016] Furthermore, in the process of connecting the output cable connected to the electronic load device to the output terminals of the fuel cell stack, a worker engages a bus bar on both sides and the output cable connected to the electronic load device to the output terminals of the fuel cell stack using bolts. Accordingly, in the conventional technique, a worker may be exposed to the risk of electric shock when manually connecting or disconnecting the output cable to the output terminals of the fuel cell stack. That is, even though the supply of hydrogen and air to the fuel cell stack is stopped, an electric current is generated due to an electrochemical reaction of hydrogen and air remaining in the fuel cell stack.Accordingly, a worker may experience an electric shock accident when disconnecting the output cable from the output terminals.

[0017] Furthermore, in the process of connecting the fluid supply line for supplying fluid to the fuel cells of the fuel cell stack to the manifold of the fuel cell stack, the fuel cell is manually pressed and connected to the fluid supply line of the activation equipment. Accordingly, in a conventional technique, since the fuel cell stack is manually pressed with several tens of kilograms and connected to the fluid supply line of the activation equipment, workability is deteriorated. Furthermore, it is difficult to ensure airtightness between the fluid supply line and the manifold of the fuel cell stack when connecting them.

[0018] The foregoing information disclosed in this Background section is provided merely to facilitate an understanding of the background of the invention and may therefore contain information that does not constitute prior art that is already known to those skilled in the art. SUMMARY

[0098] In this case, a proximity sensor 17 for limiting the position of movement of the first movable body 10 may be installed in the frame 7.

[0099] The proximity sensor 17 is used to limit the forward position of the first movable body 10 with respect to the fuel cell stack 5. When the first movable body 10 reaches a predetermined position, the proximity sensor 17 detects the predetermined position and outputs a corresponding detection signal to a controller 90. Accordingly, the controller 90 can stop movement of the first movable body 10 by sending a control signal to the first actuator 11.

[0100] With reference to Fig. 3, the terminal guide 30 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention serves to support the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5 inserted into the frame 7 as described above.

[0101] Fig. 5 is a diagram schematically showing the connection routing of the connector connection structure that can be used in the activation device for fuel cell stacks according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

[0102] With reference to Fig. 3 and Fig. 5, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the terminal guide 30 may be adapted to move back and forth with respect to the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5 in the first movable body 10.

[0103] The terminal guide 30 may include a guide block 33 installed in such a manner as to reciprocate in the direction horizontal to the first movable body 10 (i.e., in the insertion direction of the fuel cell stack) by means of a second actuator 31.

[0104] The second actuator 31 may comprise a conventional cylinder device for supplying the guide block with a forward and reverse drive torque of an air pressure or a hydraulic pressure and a conventional movable device for converting the torque of a motor into a rectilinear reciprocating motion through a lead screw and an LM guide.

[0105] V-shaped support recesses 35 for supporting the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5 are formed in the guide block 33. Furthermore, insertion grooves 37 into which the cell terminals 9 are inserted are formed in the support recesses 35.

[0106] That is, when the second actuator 31 moves the guide block 33 to the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5, the cell terminals 9 can be guided to the support recesses 35 of the guide block 33 and inserted into the insertion grooves 37.

[0107] In this case, the guide block 33 is installed in the connecting stage of the second actuator 31 in such a way that it moves over or through a first guide rail 39. A buffer spring 41 for buffering the support pressure of the guide block 33 for the cell terminals 9 is installed in the first guide rail 39 between the guide block 33 and the connecting stage of the second actuator 31.

[0108] Furthermore, a first rod cell 43 for detecting contact with the connecting stage of the second actuator 31 is installed in or on the guide block 33. The first rod cell 43 detects a contact pressure between the connecting stage of the second actuator 31 and the guide block 33 and outputs a corresponding detection signal to the controller 90.

[0109] That is, when the second actuator 31 moves the guide block 33 toward the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5, the first rod cell 43 buffers the support pressure of the guide block 33 for the cell terminals 9 through the buffer spring 41. When the connecting step of the second actuator 31 comes into contact with the guide block 33, the first rod cell 43 detects the contact and outputs a detection signal to the controller 90. Accordingly, the controller 90 can stop the operation of the second actuator 31 by outputting a control signal to the second actuator 31.

[0110] With reference to Fig. 3, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the connection unit 60 comes into contact with the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5 and is commonly referred to in the industry as a “CVM connector”.

[0111] Fig. 6 is a diagram schematically showing the connection unit of the connector connection structure that can be used in the activation device for fuel cell stacks according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

[0112] With reference to Fig. 3 and Fig. 6, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the connection unit 60 may include a probe block 63 installed in the first movable body 10 so as to be reciprocally movable up and down by a third actuator 61.

[0113] That is, the probe block 63 can be moved downward by the third actuator 61 in the state in which the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5 have been supported by the guide block 33 of the terminal guide 30.

[0114] The third actuator 61 is installed in the first movable body 10. The third actuator 61 may comprise a conventional actuating cylinder device driven forward and backward by hydraulic pressure or air pressure, and is adapted to reciprocate the probe block 63 up and down.

[0115] A plurality of connector probes 65, which are brought into contact (or connected) with the cell terminals 9 arranged in the state in which the cell terminals 9 are supported on the guide block 33, are installed in the probe block 63.

[0116] The connector probes 65 are arranged consecutively in the probe block 63 at specific intervals, according to the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5. The connector probes 65 may be connected in contact with the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0117] Fig. 7 is a diagram schematically showing the connector probe of the connection unit that can be used in the activation device for fuel cell stacks according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

[0118] With reference to Fig. 3, Fig. 6 and Fig. 7, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the connector probe 65 may be installed in the probe block 63 in such a manner that it moves up and down and left and right.

[0119] In this regard, the probe block 63 may include a mounting hole 66 formed with a larger inner diameter than the outer diameter of the connector probe 65, and a pair of mounting plates 67 adapted to support the connector probe 65 through the mounting hole 66.

[0120] Further, a ring member 69 is fixedly installed in the connector probe 65. The ring member 69 is spaced from the fixed plates 67 at a specific interval and disposed between the pair of fixed plates 67.

[0121] That is, the connector probe 65 is supported on the mounting hole 66 of the fixing plate 67 having a larger diameter than the outer diameter of the connector probe 65, and the ring member 69 is installed between the pair of fixing plates 67. Accordingly, the connector probe 65 can be installed in the probe block 63 in such a manner that it moves up and down and left and right (based on the drawing).

[0122] The reason for this is that although the connector probes 65 are vertically placed on the cell terminals 9 with a predetermined tolerance or positional deviation so that the cell terminals 9 are not uniformly arranged, the cell terminals 9 and the connector probes 65 can be accurately connected because the connector probes 65 are allowed to move up and down and left and right.

[0123] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the connector probe 65 may include an outer shell member 71, a probe pin 73, a return spring 75, and a connector head 77.

[0124] The outer shell member 71 may be installed in the probe block 63 in such a manner that it moves up and down and left and right. The probe pin 73 may be installed in such a manner that it moves up and down in the outer shell member 71 and may protrude outside the outer shell member 71.

[0125] The return spring 75 provides a contact force to the cell terminals 9. The return spring 75 is installed in the outer shell member 71 and can exert an elastic force on the probe pin 73.

[0126] Furthermore, the connector head 77 substantially contacts the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5 and may be installed at the end of the probe pin 73 (i.e., at the bottom of the drawing).

[0127] In this case, V-shaped head recesses or head grooves 79 for guiding (or supporting) the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5 are formed in the connector heads 77.

[0128] That is, since the V-shaped head grooves 79 are formed in the connector heads 77, the connector probes 65 can allow the probe head 63 to move up and down and left and right as described above.

[0129] With reference to Fig. 3 to 7, the connector connection structure 100 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention may further include an indicator 80 for externally indicating an electrical connection between the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5 and the connector probes 65.

[0130] According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the display 80 may include an LED light 81 electrically connected to the connector probes 65 and the guide block 33 of the terminal guide 30 and adapted to emit light (i.e., LED light) in response to an electrical signal.

[0131] In this case, the connector probes 65 and the guide block 33 may be formed of conductive materials. When the connector probes 65 are connected (or come into contact) with the cell terminals 9, the LED light 81 may be powered and indicate a connection state between each connector probe 65 and each cell terminal 9 using emitted light.

[0132] Furthermore, when the connector probes 65 and the cell terminals 9 are not normally in contact (or connected) with each other, or a unit battery is faulty, the LED lamp 81 is not supplied with power and does not emit light. Accordingly, the LED lamp 81 can indicate the faulty state of a corresponding cell.

[0133] According to another exemplary embodiment of the present invention, as shown in Fig. 2A, Fig. 2B and Fig. 3, the activation device comprises the controller 90 for controlling an overall actuation of the activation device 1.

[0134] The controller 90 can receive the above-mentioned detection signal from the proximity sensor 17 and control the drive of the first actuator 11, thereby being able to restrict the position of the first movable body 10 for the fuel cell stack 5.

[0135] Further, when the connecting stage of the second actuator 31 and the guide block 33 come into contact with each other as described above, the controller 90 can receive the detection signal of the first rod cell 43, that is, a result of detecting the contact, and control the drive of the second actuator 31.

[0136] In addition, the controller 90 may reciprocate the probe block 63 up and down by controlling the third actuator 61, and may supply power to the LED lamp 81 of the display 80 when the connector probes 65 and the cell terminals 9 come into contact with each other.

[0137] With reference to Fig. 2A and Fig. 2B, the output cable connection structure 200 in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention is for automatically connecting positive (+) output cables 4a of an electrical load device 4 to a side surface on one side of the fuel cell stack 5 that has entered the frame 7.

[0138] In this case, the output cable connection structure 200 as shown in (a) of Fig. 8, the positive (+) output cables 4a of the electronic load device 4 (see below Fig. 2B) automatically connect to positive (+) output terminals 5a provided in the side surface on one side of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0139] The positive (+) output terminals 5a are provided in an end plate 5b provided on one side of the fuel cell stack 5. Terminal holes 5c are provided in the respective positive (+) output terminals 5a.

[0140] Fig. 9 is a perspective view showing the output cable connection structure employed in the fuel cell stack activation device according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

[0141] With reference to Fig. 2A, Fig. 2B and Fig. 9, the connector connection structure 200 in the exemplary embodiment of the present invention may basically include a second movable body 110 and a first connection terminal group 150.

[0142] The second movable body 110 forms the first connection terminal group 150, which will be described in more detail later, and may be installed in such a manner that it reciprocates with respect to the side surface on one side of the fuel cell stack 5 that has been inserted into the frame 7.

[0143] The second movable body 110 may be installed in such a manner that it extends in a direction across one side of the fuel cell stack 5 on the frame 7 with respect to the positive (+) output terminals 5a (see hereinafter (a) of Fig. 8) the end plate 5b (see hereinafter (a) of Fig. 8) provided on the side surface on one side of the fuel cell stack 5, reciprocates on the basis of the fuel cell stack 5 having penetrated into the frame 7.

[0144] That is, the second movable body 110 may be installed in the frame 7 in such a manner as to reciprocate in an electrically driven manner in a direction across a side of the fuel cell stack 5 inserted into the frame 7 through the first guide rail 8.

[0145] The second movable body 110 is installed in the frame 7 in such a manner that it reciprocates in the direction transverse to one side of the fuel cell stack 5 by means of a fourth actuator 111.

[0146] The fourth actuator 111 may include an actuating cylinder 115 for reciprocating the second movable body 110 in the direction transverse to one side of the fuel cell stack 5 by transmitting forward and backward driving forces to the second movable body 110. The actuating cylinder 115 may include, for example, a pneumatic cylinder.

[0147] A pair of fasteners 117 for supporting the side surface on one side of the fuel cell stack 5 are installed in the second movable body 110. When the front surface of the second movable body 110 is tightly fixed to the side surface of the fuel cell stack 5 by the forward drive of the fourth actuator 111, the fasteners 117 serve to buffer the adhesion force of the second movable body 110.

[0148] The fasteners 117 may be formed of rubber materials in a block shape and may be fixedly installed on both sides of the front surface of the second movable body 110 in accordance with the side surface on one side of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0149] As in Fig. 9 and Fig. 10, the second movable body 110 in this case is connected to the actuating cylinder 115 of the fourth actuator 111 and reciprocates in the direction transverse to one side of the fuel cell stack 5. The second movable body 110 is supported in such a manner that it reciprocates on the frame 7 by a pair of second guide bars 131.

[0150] The pair of second guide rods 131 are connected to the rear surface of the second movable body 110 and inserted into a pair of first support blocks 133 fixed to the frame 7. The pair of second guide rods 131 can guide a reciprocating movement of the second movable body 110.

[0151] Fig. 11 is a diagram showing the first connection terminal group of the output cable connection structure that can be used in the activation device for fuel cell stacks according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

[0152] With reference to Fig. 9 and Fig. 11, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the first connection terminal group 150 is electrically connected to the positive (+) output terminals 5a of the fuel cell stack 5 through the second movable body 110 that moves across one side of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0153] The first connection terminal group 150 is elastically installed in the second movable body 110 and electrically connected to the positive (+) output terminals 5a of the end plate 5b provided in the side surface on one side of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0154] The first connection terminal group 150 may include first cable connecting members 151 fixedly installed in the second movable body 110, first terminal rods 153 respectively installed in the first cable connecting members 151, and first springs 155 respectively installed in the first cable connecting members 151.

[0155] The first cable connecting members 151 are formed in a cylindrical shape, installed in or on the rear surface of the second movable body 110, and connected to the electronic load device (see Fig. 2B) are connected by the positive (+) output cables 4a.

[0156] Each of the first terminal rods 153 protrudes toward the front surface of the second movable body 110 in the first cable connecting member 151 and is installed in such a manner as to move in the direction across one side of the fuel cell stack 5. That is, the first terminal rod 153 is installed so as to protrude toward the front surface of the second movable body 110 through a through hole 157 of the second movable body 110 in the first cable connecting member 151.

[0157] First connection terminals 159, which are electrically connected to the respective positive (+) output terminals 5a of the fuel cell stack 5, are installed at the protruding ends of the first terminal rods 153. The first connection terminals 159 are respectively inserted into the terminal holes 5c of the positive (+) output terminals 5a. A tapered surface 161 is formed on the outer peripheral surface of each of the first connection terminals 159, so that the first connection terminal 159 is easily inserted into the terminal hole 5c of the positive (+) output terminal 5a.

[0158] A first support member 163 having a disk shape for supporting the positive (+) output terminal 5a of the fuel cell stack 5 is installed on the protruding end side of each of the first terminal rods 153. That is, the first support member 163 supports the positive (+) output terminal 5a of the end plate 5b when the first terminal rod 153 is inserted into the terminal hole 5c of the positive (+) output terminal 5a.

[0159] Furthermore, the first spring 155 is installed in the first terminal rod 153 in the first cable connecting member 151. The first spring 155 supports the positive (+) output terminal 5a of the end plate 5b through the first support member 163 and exerts an elastic force on the first terminal rod 153 when the first terminal rod 153 is inserted into the terminal hole 5c of the positive (+) output terminal 5a.

[0160] That is, the first terminal rod 153 can overcome the elastic force of the first spring 155, can move in the reverse direction of the second movable body 110, and can exert the elastic force of the first spring 155 on the positive (+) output terminal 5a through the first connection terminal 159.

[0161] With reference to Fig. 2A and Fig. 2B, the fluid supply line connection structure 300 in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention serves to automatically connect negative (-) output cables 4b of the electronic load device 4 to a side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 that has entered the frame 7, and to automatically connect a fluid supply line 6a of a fluid supply device 6 to the fuel cell stack 5.

[0162] In this case, the fluid supply line connection structure 300 as shown in (b) of Fig. 8, the negative (-) output cables 4b of the electronic load device 4 (see below Fig. 2B) automatically connect to negative (-) output terminals 5d provided on one side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0163] The negative (-) output terminals 5d are provided in the end plate 5b, which is provided on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5. Terminal holes 5e are formed in the respective negative (-) output terminals 5d.

[0164] Furthermore, the fuel cell stack 5 may include a manifold 5m connected to the fluid supply line connection structure 300 and adapted to inject or discharge hydrogen, air, and a coolant supplied through the fluid supply line 6a of the fluid supply device 6.

[0165] Fig. 12 is a perspective view showing the fluid supply line connection structure that can be used in the activation device for fuel cell stacks according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

[0166] With reference to Fig. 2A, Fig. 2B and Fig. 12, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the fluid supply line connection structure 300 may basically include a third movable body 210 and a second connection port group 250.

[0167] The third movable body 210 forms the second connection terminal group 250, which will be described in more detail later, and is installed in such a manner that it reciprocates with respect to the side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 inserted into the frame 7.

[0168] The third movable body 210 may be installed in such a manner that it extends in the direction across the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 on the frame 7 with respect to the negative (-) output terminals 5d (see hereinafter (b) of Fig. 8) of the end plate 5b provided on the side surface of the other side of the fuel cell stack 5, on the base of the fuel cell stack 5 inserted into the frame 7.

[0169] That is, the third movable body 210 may be installed in the frame 7 in an electrically driven manner in such a manner that it reciprocates in a direction transverse to the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 that has entered the frame 7 through the first guide rail 8.

[0170] The third movable body 210 is installed in the frame 7 so as to be reciprocated in the direction transverse to the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 by a fifth actuator 211. The third movable body 210 may be installed so as to reciprocate in the direction transverse to the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 by the third guide rails 213 placed on the frame 7.

[0171] The fifth actuator 211 may comprise a movable device for converting the rotary motion of a motor 215 into a linear reciprocating motion through a lead screw and a LM guide.

[0172] As in Fig. 12 and Fig. In this case, as shown in Figure 13, the third movable body 210 is installed on the frame 7 in such a manner as to reciprocate in the direction transverse to the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 through a pair of third guide rods 231. The third guide rods 231 are connected to the rear surface of the third movable body 210 and inserted into a pair of second guide blocks 233 provided on the frame 7. The third guide rods 231 can guide movement of the third movable body 210.

[0173] Further, movable blocks 241 are installed in the frame 7 according to the back surface of the fourth block 211 and are adapted to be reciprocated in the direction transverse to the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 by the fifth actuator 211. The movable blocks 241 are slidably connected to the third guide rods 213 in the direction transverse to the other side of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0174] In this case, stoppers 243 are integrally formed on both sides of the movable block 241 in such a way as to protrude. Furthermore, stop blocks 245, respectively engaging with the stoppers 243, are formed at the ends of the third guide rods 231 in accordance with the stoppers 243.

[0175] Accordingly, when the fifth actuator 211 moves the movable blocks 241 backward from the side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5, the stop members 243 can engage with the stop blocks 245, thereby enabling backward movement of the third movable body 210.

[0176] A fixing block 247 toward the rear surface of the third movable body 210 may be fixedly installed in the movable block 241. When the fifth actuator 211 moves the movable blocks 241 forward toward the other side of the fuel cell stack 5, the fixing block 247 supports the rear surface of the third movable block 210.

[0177] That is, when the fifth actuator 211 moves the movable blocks 241 forward in the direction across the other side of the fuel cell stack 5, the fixing block 247 can move the third movable block 210 forward while pushing the third movable block 210.

[0178] Furthermore, a second rod cell 249 is installed on the rear surface of the third movable body 210 in accordance with the fixing block 247 and is adapted to contact the fixing block 247. The second rod cell 249 serves to detect a contact pressure with the fixing block 247 for the third movable body 210.

[0179] The second rod cell 249 detects a contact pressure with the mounting block 247 and outputs a corresponding detection signal to the controller 90 (see below Fig. 2B).

[0180] When the fifth actuator 211 moves the movable blocks 241 forward and fixes the front surface of the third movable block 210 closely to the side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 through the fixing block 247, the second rod cell 249 detects a compact pressure with the fixing block 247 for the third movable body 210 and outputs a corresponding detection signal to the controller 90.

[0181] In response, the controller 90 compares a pressure applied to the side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 with a predetermined reference pressure. If it is determined that the pressure applied to the side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 exceeds the predetermined reference pressure, the controller 90 may stop the actuation of the fifth actuator 211 by transmitting a control signal to the fifth actuator 211.

[0182] Fig. 14 is a diagram showing the second connection terminal group of the fluid supply line connection structure that can be used in the activation device for fuel cell stacks according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

[0183] With reference to Fig. 12 and Fig. 14, the second connection terminal group 250 in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention serves to connect the negative (-) output cables 4b of the electronic load device 4 (see hereinafter Fig. 2B) to the negative (-) output terminals 5d of the fuel cell stack 5 by the third movable body 210 moving in the direction transverse to the other side of the fuel cell stack 5. The second connection terminal group 250 may be electrically connected to the negative (-) output terminals 5d of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0184] The second connection terminal group 250 is elastically installed in the third movable body 210 and electrically connected to the negative (-) output terminals 5d of the end plate 5b provided in the side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0185] The second connection terminal group 250 may include second cable connecting members 251 fixedly installed in the third movable body 210, second connecting rods 253 respectively installed in the second cable connecting members 251, and second springs 255 respectively installed in the second cable connecting members 251.

[0186] The second cable connecting members 251 are formed in a cylindrical shape, installed on the rear surface of the third movable body 210, and connected to the electronic load device 4 (see Fig. 2B) through the negative (-) output cable 4b.

[0187] The second terminal rods 253 protrude toward the front surface of the third movable body 210 in the second cable connecting members 251 and are installed in such a manner that they move in the direction transverse to the other side of the fuel cell stack 5. That is, the second terminal rods 253 are installed in such a manner that they protrude toward the front surface of the third movable body 210 through the through holes 257 of the third movable body 210 in the second cable connecting members 251.

[0188] Second connection terminals 259 are respectively installed at the protruding ends of the second terminal rods 253 and electrically connected to the negative (-) output terminals 5d of the fuel cell stack 5. The second connection terminals 259 are respectively inserted into the terminal holes 5e of the negative (-) output terminals 5d. A tapered surface 261 is formed in the outer peripheral surface of each second connection terminal 259, so that the second connection terminal 259 is easily inserted into the terminal hole 5e of the negative (-) output terminal 5d.

[0189] Second support members 263 having a disc shape are configured to respectively support the negative (-) output terminals 5d of the fuel cell stack 5, and are respectively installed on the protruding end side of the second terminal rod 253. That is, when the second terminal rod 253 is inserted into the terminal hole 5e of the negative (-) output terminal 5d, the second support member 263 supports the negative (-) output terminal 5d of the end plate 5b.

[0190] Furthermore, the second spring 255 is installed in the second terminal rod 253 in the second cable connecting member 251. The second spring 255 supports the negative (-) output terminal 5d of the end plate 5b through the second support member 263. When the second terminal rod 253 is inserted into the terminal hole 5e of the negative (-) output terminal 5d, the second spring 255 exerts an elastic force on the second terminal rod 253.

[0191] That is, the second terminal rod 253 can overcome the elastic force of the second spring 255, can move in the reverse direction of the third movable body 210, and can exert the elastic force of the second spring 255 on the negative (-) output terminal 5d through the second connection terminal 259.

[0192] With reference to Fig. 2A, Fig. 2B and Fig. 12, a fluid supply line connection structure 300 in the exemplary embodiment of the present invention may include a plurality of line connection structures 270 provided in the third movable body 210 and connected to the fluid supply line 6a of the fluid supply device 6.

[0193] The cable connection structures 270 are connected to the distributor 5m (see (b) of Fig. 8) of the fuel cell stack 5 and adapted to have fluid supply / discharge holes for supplying hydrogen, air, and a coolant to the manifold 5m of the fuel cell stack 5 and for discharging hydrogen, air, and a coolant from the fuel cell stack 5.

[0194] The fluid supply line connection structure 300 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention may further include an airtightness testing unit 290 for testing the airtightness of the fuel cell stack 5, as shown in Fig. 15 shown.

[0195] The airtightness test unit 290 connects the fluid supply line 6a of the fluid supply device 6 to the manifold 5m of the fuel cell stack 5 through the line connection structure 270. The airtightness test unit 290 is used to inject air into the fuel cell stack 5 through the line connection structure 270 and tests the airtightness of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0196] The airtightness test unit 290 may include an air supply source 291 capable of supplying air to the pipe connection structure 270 of the third movable body 210, a pneumatic regulator 293 capable of controlling a pressure of air supplied to the pipe connection structure 270, a flow meter 295 capable of measuring the flow rate of supplied air, and a pressure sensor 297 capable of detecting a pressure of air acting in the fuel cell stack 5.

[0197] Accordingly, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, in the state where the fluid supply holes of the pipe connection structure 270 are open and the fluid discharge holes are closed, air supplied by the air supply source 291 is injected into the fluid supply holes of the pipe connection structure 270.

[0198] In this case, a pressure of the air supplied by the air supply source 291 may be controlled to a predetermined pressure by means of the pneumatic regulator 293, the flow rate of the supplied air may be measured by the flow meter 295, and the supplied air may be controlled to a predetermined flow rate based on the measured value.

[0199] In addition, the pressure sensor 297 detects an air pressure acting in the fuel cell stack 5 and outputs a corresponding detection signal to the controller 90 (see Fig. 2B). In response, the controller 90 may compare the actual air pressure in the fuel cell stack 5 according to the detection signal with a predetermined air pressure in the fuel cell stack 5 and detect whether the airtightness of the fuel cell stack 5 is normal.

[0200] As in Fig.2B, the fuel cell stack activation device 1 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention may further include a display device 400 for receiving a control signal from the controller 90 based on the average cell voltage of the fuel cell stack 5 measured by the cell voltage measuring device 2 and for displaying whether the fuel cell 5 is normal.

[0201] For example, the controller 90 may compare the average cell voltage of the fuel cell stack 5 measured by the cell voltage measuring device 2 with a voltage reference value and indicate by means of the display device 400 whether the fuel cell 5 is normal.

[0202] The operation of the fuel cell stack activation device 1 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention configured as described above will be described below with reference to the above-mentioned drawings.

[0203] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the fuel cell stack 5 in which a plurality of unit cells are stacked is transferred through the carrier 3. An external appearance of the fuel cell stack 5 is tested, and fuel cell stacks 5 whose external appearances have been checked are transferred via the transfer path 1a to the activation devices 1 arranged in two channels.

[0204] In this case, the fuel cell stacks 5 enter the frame 7 of the device 1 and into a predetermined activation action area along the first guide rail 8 on the frame 7.

[0205] According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the cell voltage measuring device 2 and the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5 are automatically connected by the connector connection structure 100 in the state in which the fuel cell stack 5 has entered the activation action area as described above.

[0206] More specifically, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the first movable body 10 may first be moved forward in the insertion direction of the fuel cell stack 5 by means of the first actuator 11.

[0207] In this case, the first movable body 10 is moved forward along the second guide rail 13 on the frame 7 toward the input side of the fuel cell stack 5. When the first movable body 10 reaches a predetermined position, the proximity sensor 17 detects it and outputs a corresponding detection signal to the controller 90. In response, the controller 90 stops the movement of the first movable body 10 by outputting a control signal to the first actuator 11.

[0208] In this state, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the second actuator 31 moves the guide block 33 of the terminal guide 30 forward to the cell terminal portion 9 of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0209] When the second actuator 31 moves the guide block 33 to the cell terminal portion 9 of the fuel cell stack 5, the cell terminals 9 are guided to the V-shaped support grooves 35 of the guide block 33 and inserted into the insertion grooves 37.

[0210] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, in this case, when the second actuator 31 moves the guide block 33 to the cell terminal 9 portion of the fuel cell stack 5, the buffer spring 41 can buffer a supporting pressure of the guide block 33 for the cell terminal 9.

[0211] The second actuator 31 overcomes the elastic force of the buffer spring 41 and continues to move the guide block 33. When the guide block 33 comes into contact with the connecting stage of the second actuator 31, the first rod cell 43 detects the contact in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention and outputs a corresponding detection signal to the controller 90. Accordingly, the controller 90 stops the actuation of the second actuator 31 by outputting a control signal to the second actuator 31.

[0212] In the state in which the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5 have been supported by the guide block 33 of the terminal guide 30 as described above, the third actuator 61 moves the probe block 63 of the connection unit 60 downward in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

[0213] Accordingly, the plurality of connector probes 65 installed in the probe block 63 come into contact with the cell terminals 9 arranged in the state of being supported by the guide block 33. In this case, the connector probes 65 can be connected to the cell terminals 9 through the connector head 77 installed at the end of the probe pin 73.

[0214] In this operation, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the connector probe 65 can move up and down and left and right with respect to the probe block 63 because the connector probe 65 is supported by the mounting hole 66 of the fixing plate 67 having a larger diameter than the outer diameter of the connector probe 65 and the ring member 69 is fixedly installed on the connector probe 65 between the pair of fixing plates 67.

[0215] Accordingly, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, although the connector probes 65 are placed in a direction vertical to the cell terminals 9 with a predetermined tolerance or positional deviation so that the cell terminals 9 are not uniformly arranged, the cell terminals 9 and the connector probes 65 can be precisely connected because the connector probes 65 are allowed to move up and down and left and right.

[0216] Furthermore, the contact force of the connector head 77 with the cell terminals 9 can be increased because the connector probes 65 elastically support the probe pin 73 by the return spring 75 in the outer shell member 71.

[0217] Furthermore, since the V-shaped head grooves 79 are formed in the connector head 77 of the connector probe 65, the cell terminals 9 can be supported by the head grooves 79. As described above, the connector probes 65 are allowed to move up and down and left and right with respect to the probe block 63.

[0218] Through this operation, the output cable connection structure 200 in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention can automatically connect the positive (+) output cables 4a of the electronic load device 4 to the positive (+) output terminals 5a provided on the side surface at one side of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0219] More specifically, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the fourth actuator 111 first moves the second movable body 110 in the direction across one side of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0220] In this case, the second movable body 110 can be guided by the second guide rods 131 inserted into the first support block 133 and moved in the direction transverse to one side of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0221] Accordingly, the front surface of the second movable body 110 is tightly fixed to the side surface on one side of the fuel cell stack 5. The fasteners 117, formed of a rubber material, support the side surface on one side of the fuel cell stack 5. Accordingly, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the fasteners 117 can buffer the close adhesion force of the second movable body 110 to a side surface on one side of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0222] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, when the front surface of the second movable body 110 is closely fixed to the side surface on one side of the fuel cell stack 5 as described above, the first terminal rods 153 of the first connection terminal group 150 overcome the elastic force of the first spring 155 and move in the backward direction of the second movable body 110 in the state of supporting the positive (+) output terminals 5a of the fuel cell stack 5 through the first support members 163.

[0223] In this case, the first connecting terminals 159 of the first connecting rods 153 are inserted into the terminal holes 5c of the positive (+) output terminals 5a. Since the tapered surfaces 161 are formed in the outer peripheral surfaces of the first connecting terminals 159, the first connecting terminals 159 can be easily inserted into the terminal holes 5c of the positive (+) output terminals 5a.

[0224] Furthermore, the first connecting terminals 159 can be inserted into the terminal holes 5c of the positive (+) output terminals 5a with a strong closing force and can be brought into surface contact therewith because the elastic forces of the first springs 155 are exerted on the first terminal rods 153.

[0225] In this operation, the fluid supply line connection structure 300 in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention can automatically connect the negative (-) output cables 4b of the electronic load device 4 to the negative (-) output terminals 5d provided on the side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5, and automatically connect the fluid supply line 6a of the fluid supply device 6 to the manifold 5m of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0226] More specifically, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the fifth actuator 211 moves the movable blocks 241 forward in the direction across the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 along the third guide rails 213.

[0227] Accordingly, the fixing block 247 fixed to the movable block 241 comes into contact with the second rod cell 249, pushes the third movable body 210, and moves the third movable body 210 forward in the direction across the other side of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0228] In this case, the third movable body 210 can be guided by the pair of third guide rods 231 inserted into the second support blocks 233 and can be moved in the direction across the other side of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0229] When the third movable body 210 is to be moved backward from the side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5, the fifth actuator 211 moves the movable blocks 241 backward from the side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5. Accordingly, the stop members 243 provided in the movable blocks 241 come into contact with the stop blocks 245 of the third guide rods 231, thereby being capable of moving the third movable body 210 backward.

[0230] When the third movable body 210 is moved forward and the front surface of the third movable body 210 is closely fixed to the side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 as described above, the fixing block 247 pressurizes the second rod cell 249.

[0231] Accordingly, the second rod cell 249 detects a contact pressure of the fixing block 247 with the third movable body 210 and outputs a corresponding detection signal to the controller 90.

[0232] In response, the controller 90 compares a pressure applied to the side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 with a predetermined reference pressure. If it is determined that the pressure applied to the side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 exceeds the predetermined reference pressure, the controller 90 can stop the actuation of the fifth actuator 211 by outputting a control signal to the fifth actuator 211.

[0233] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, when the front surface of the third movable body 210 is closely fixed to the side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5 as described above, the second terminal rods 253 of the second connection terminal group 250 overcome the elastic forces of the second springs 255 and move in the backward direction of the third movable body 210 in the state of supporting the negative (-) output terminals 5d of the fuel cell stack 5 through the second support members 263.

[0234] In this case, the second connection terminals 259 provided in the second connection rods 253 are inserted into the terminal holes 5e of the negative (-) output terminals 5d. Since the tapered surfaces 261 are formed on the outer peripheral surfaces of the second connection terminals 259, the second connection terminals 259 can be easily inserted into the respective terminal holes 5e of the negative (-) output terminals 5d.

[0235] Furthermore, since the elastic forces of the second spring 255 are applied to the second terminal rod 253, the second connecting terminals 259 can be inserted into the terminal holes 5e of the negative (-) output terminals 5d and thus brought into surface contact with strong, close adhesion forces or contact forces.

[0236] As described above, at the same time as the second connection terminals 259 of the second connection terminal group 250 are connected to the negative (-) output terminals 5d of the fuel cell stack 5, the lead connection structure 270 of the third movable body 210 can be connected to the manifold 5m of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0237] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, air supplied by the air supply source 291 of the airtightness test unit 290 is injected into the fluid supply holes of the pipe connection structure 270 after the fluid supply pipe 6a of the fluid supply device is connected to the manifold 5m of the fuel cell stack 5 through the pipe connection structure 270 as described above.

[0238] In this case, the pressure of the air supplied by the air supply source 291 can be controlled to a predetermined pressure by the pneumatic regulator 293. The flow rate of the supplied air is measured by the flow meter 295, so that it can be controlled to a predetermined flow rate based on the measured value.

[0239] The pressure sensor 297 of the airtightness test unit 290 further detects an air pressure acting in the fuel cell stack 5 and outputs a corresponding detection signal to the controller 90. In response, the controller 90 can compare the actual air pressure in the fuel cell stack 5 according to the detection signal with a predetermined air pressure in the fuel cell stack 5 and determine whether the airtightness of the fuel cell stack 5 is normal.

[0240] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the cell voltage measuring device 2 for measuring the average cell voltage of the fuel cell stack 5 and the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5 can be automatically connected by the connector connection structure 100 as described above.

[0241] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the positive (+) output cables 4a of the electronic load device 4 can be further automatically connected to the positive (+) output terminals 5a provided in the side surface on one side of the fuel cell stack 5 by the output cable connection structure 200.

[0242] In addition, the fluid supply line connection structure 300 of an exemplary embodiment of the present invention can automatically connect the negative (-) output cables 4b of the electronic load device 4 to the negative (-) output terminals 5b provided on the side surface on the other side of the fuel cell stack 5, and automatically connect the fluid supply line 6a of the fluid supply device 6 to the manifold 5m of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0243] In this state, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, hydrogen, air, and a coolant supplied through the fluid supply line 6a of the fluid supply device 6 are supplied to the fuel cell stack 5 through the line connection structure 270 of the fluid supply line connection structure 300.

[0244] Accordingly, the fuel cell stack 5 generates electrical energy through an electrochemical reaction of hydrogen and air. The electrical energy is transmitted to the electronic load device 4 through the positive (+) output terminals 5a of the fuel cell stack 5 and the positive (+) output cables 4a, which are electrically connected by the output cable connection structure 200, and the negative (-) output terminals 5b of the fuel cell stack 5 and the negative (-) output cables 4b, which are electrically connected by the fluid supply line connection structure 300.

[0245] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, while the electric power generated by the fuel cell stack 5 is transmitted to the electronic load device 4 as described above, the state in which the connector probes 65 of the connector connection structure 100 and the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5 are connected can be externally displayed by the display 80.

[0246] That is, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the connector probes 65, the guide block 33, and the display 80 are electrically connected, and power is supplied to the display 80 by the controller 90. Accordingly, the LED lamp 81 of the display 80 can emit light.

[0247] When the connector probes 65 and the cell terminals 9 are not normally brought into contact (or connected) with each other, or when a unit battery is defective, power is not supplied to the LED lamp 81 of the display 80. Accordingly, the state in which a corresponding cell is defective can be externally displayed.

[0248] Accordingly, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, using light generated by the LED light 81 of the display 80, it can be displayed whether the connector probes 65 are connected to the cell terminals 9, respectively.

[0249] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, when the cell voltage measuring device 2 is connected to the cell terminals 9 of the fuel cell stack 5 through the connector connection structure 100, the cell voltage measuring device 2 can measure the average cell voltage of the fuel cell stack 5.

[0250] The measured value of the average cell voltage of the fuel cell stack 5, measured by the cell voltage measuring device 2 as described above, is transmitted to the controller 90. The controller 90 can compare the average cell voltage of the fuel cell stack 5 measured by the cell voltage measuring device 2 with a voltage reference value, determine whether the fuel cell stack 5 is normal, and display whether the fuel cell stack 5 is normal using the display unit 400.

[0251] According to the fuel cell stack activation device 1 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, activation and performance evaluation operations for the fuel cell stack 5 through the connector connection structure 100, the output cable connection structure 200, and the fluid supply line connection structure 300 can be implemented in a multi-channel manner, unmanned, that is, without an operator, and automatically.

[0252] Furthermore, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, an automatic assembly mass production process for a fuel cell vehicle can be flexibly handled because the voltage measuring connector, the output cable, and the fluid supply line for the fuel cell stack 5 can be connected simultaneously by an automated process.

[0253] Furthermore, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, since the voltage measuring connector, the output cable, and the fluid supply line for the fuel cell stack 5 can be connected simultaneously by an automated process, the operability of a fuel cell stack activation process can be improved, damage to a fuel cell and an electric shock accident to a worker can be prevented, and airtightness of a fuel cell stack when a fluid is supplied can be ensured.
