Abstract
Description
[0001] The present invention is situated in the field of mechanisms for windows and French doors and relates to a control device for handles that enables the rotation of the handle between predefined angular positions.
[0002] As is well known, a window can provide a turn-only opening if the sashes are attached with hinges to a vertical mullion of the fixed frame, a tilt-only opening if the hinges are attached to the lower crossbar of the fixed frame, and a tilt-and-turn opening, which allows both a turn-only and a tilt-only opening with the same handle.
[0003] In the latter case, the handle is equipped with a control device that allows the handle to be rotated between a finite number of predefined angular positions: in a first opening position, the sash can be opened by rotating or hinged along the vertical mullion; in a second opening position, the sash can be opened by tilting; in a third opening position, the window cannot be opened.
[0004] There are also other opening systems where the sash can be moved on rails in a fourth angular position of the handle.
[0005] The control device is connected to the handle and the engagement mechanism, which allows the sash to be engaged in various ways to achieve the desired opening position. This device generally requires four angular positions: one for closing the sash and three for the three different opening positions.
[0006] It is also known that today's aesthetic taste prefers simple and clear lines; in the area of French doors and windows, this taste is reflected in the use of windows with large panes of glass and small frames.
[0007] However, the control devices known today have considerable dimensions and are therefore incompatible with the reduced space available in modern frames.
[0008] German patent application DE 93 06 531 U1 discloses, for example, a device for operating windows, doors, or the like, with a mounting plate, in particular a bearing rosette. The mounting plate or bearing rosette consists of a base body that, on the one hand, has a central bushing in which the handle is rotatably mounted and axially fixed, and on the other hand, allows for fastening via screws or the like, primarily to the sash of the door or window, or the like, and has a cover cap that is also rotatably arranged about the axis of the handle neck and serves to cover the fastening screws or the like, wherein the cover cap is resiliently supported on a shoulder of the handle neck. The cover cap is made of a spring-hard material, e.g., plastic or metal, and carries a bushing whose axial height exceeds the material thickness of the cover cap both above and below. The bushing forms a connection with the handle neck. These comprehensive components form a bearing shell around which the cover cap is axially fixed but rotatable between the shoulder or abutment surface of the handle neck and the end face of the base body. The cover cap is thereby axially pressed against the base body from the shoulder or abutment surface provided for this purpose on the handle neck under a preload generated by a predetermined, in particular pre-formed, inherent curvature or bulge.
[0009] The aim of the present invention is to create a control device with four positions that meets the needs of the industry while overcoming the aforementioned disadvantages compared to the known prior art.
[0010] This objective is achieved by a control device according to claim 1. The dependent claims describe further advantageous embodiments of the present invention.
[0011] The features and advantages of the control device according to the invention will become apparent from the following description, which is presented as an example and in a non-restrictive manner in accordance with the accompanying tables, wherein: - the Fig. show a control device (without stop elements) according to an embodiment of the invention; - the Fig. a sectional view of the control unit according to the Fig. shows; - the Fig. a top view of the control device according to the invention; - the Fig. a pin of the control device according to the invention; and - the Fig. The control device according to the invention is shown in individual parts.
[0012] The attached illustrations show a total of one control device 1 for windows or French doors of the tilt-and-turn type.
[0013] A window typically consists of a fixed frame, a movable frame, and glazing. The fixed frame is attached to a subframe embedded in the masonry surrounding the opening; the movable frame is hinged to the fixed frame, and the glazing is attached to the movable frame.
[0014] The movable frame, e.g., rectangular in shape, consists of two vertical legs, one of which is hinged to the fixed frame and one of which is free, and two horizontal legs. The handle unit, consisting of a handle and a control device 1, is attached to the free vertical leg. This control device is connected to an engagement mechanism that allows the movable frame to engage with the fixed frame to achieve the desired opening system, e.g., a casement or tilt-and-turn system, or to keep the window closed.
[0015] The control device 1 includes a pin 2 extending along a straight pin axis X, between an outer end 4, which is intended to engage with the handle, and an inner end 6, which is intended to engage with the engagement mechanism.
[0016] The pin 2 is generally faceted such that it has a multitude of flat surfaces 8, the number of which corresponds to the predefined positions that the device must guarantee. For example, the pin 2 is generally square and therefore has four flat surfaces 8.
[0017] In a predefined axial position, the pin 2 has a clamping section 9 with a predefined length, which has a circular cross-section, preferably contained in the cross-section of the remaining part of the pin 2, so that it forms a depression in relation to the remaining part of the pin 2.
[0018] Furthermore, the clamping section 9 preferably includes a projecting cylindrical rib 11 having a cross-section that can preferably be inscribed into the cross-section of the remaining part of the pin. For example, the rib 11 is positioned relative to the centerline of the clamping section 9.
[0019] The control device 1 further comprises a box 10, which includes a preferably rectangular base 12 and side walls 14 that project axially from the circumferential edge of the base 12, so that an interior 16 of the box 10 is defined.
[0020] The pin 2 is formed together with the box 10 by overmolding or by melting onto it, so that the material of the box 10 encloses the clamping section 9 and, due to the lowering, binds it axially to the base 12.
[0021] Preferably, the pin 2 is made of steel; furthermore, the base 12 of the housing 10 is preferably made of brass, aluminum, or Zamak (a zinc alloy with small amounts of aluminum, magnesium, and copper). In any case, the material of the base 12 differs from the material of the pin 2, so that no bond forms between the pin 2 and the base 12 during the joint overmolding or melting process.
[0022] The pin 2 is axially bound to the box 10 by the recess formed by the clamping section 9 and is rotatable about the pin axis X due to the circular cross-section of the clamping section 9. It follows that the pin 2 cannot be pulled off the bottom 12 of the box 10, whereas it is rotatable with respect to the box 10.
[0023] Furthermore, the control device 1 comprises at least one elastically compliant holding element 20, which is housed in the interior 16 of the box 10 and acts on a flat surface 8 of the pin 2 to hold it in a predefined angular position.
[0024] Preferably, two retaining elements 20 are provided, which act, for example, on the opposite flat surface 8 of the pin 2.
[0025] Preferably, this retaining element 20 consists of a sheet, e.g. steel, which is elastically flexible so that it forms a leaf spring.
[0026] The aforementioned retaining element 20 is configured such that, when it is housed in the interior 16 of the box 10 and is in contact with a side wall 14, it is deformed in such a way that it is prestressed.
[0027] For example, the retaining element 20 in the form of a sheet metal takes the form of an arc which, preferably in the middle position, is brought into contact with a flat surface 8 of the pin 2.
[0028] According to one embodiment, the control device 1 further comprises a safety element 30, e.g. a toothed spring ring for non-grooved shafts, which is attached to the pin 2 on the side of the inner end 6 and is configured to hold the said retaining elements 20 in the interior 16.
[0029] Furthermore, the box contains 10 fasteners for attachment to the movable frame of the window or French door. For example, the aforementioned fasteners include a pair of eyelets 32, spaced apart along a transverse axis Y perpendicular to the pin axis X, for inserting fastening screws into the movable frame.
[0030] During normal operation of the control device 1 according to the invention, the pin 2 is initially in a first stable angular position.
[0031] In this first stable angular position of the pin 2, the retaining elements 20 act on the flat surfaces 8 with a predefined effect due to the preload, so that the pin 2 is held in this first position.
[0032] From the first stable angular position, the pen 2 is rotated around the pen axis X, e.g. by applying force to the handle.
[0033] In an initial rotation phase, the retaining elements 20 undergo further deformation due to the nature of the pin's cross-section. This increases the force exerted by the retaining elements 20 on the pin 2, which counteracts rotation of the pin 2, and returns the pin 2 to its initial stable angular position.
[0034] Subsequently, in a second rotation phase, beyond the angular position of the pin 2 at which the deformation of the retaining elements 20 is at its maximum, these retaining elements 20 begin to return to a state of lesser deformation, depending on the nature of the pin's cross-section. The force exerted by the retaining elements 20 on the pin 2 no longer resists the rotation of the pin 2; on the contrary, this force tends to cause the pin 2 to snap forward into a second stable angular position.
[0035] When this second stable angular position is reached, the condition is similar to that described for the first stable angular position, and with subsequent snap rotations in the same direction, the pin 2 can be moved to a third stable angular position and then to a fourth stable angular position, or return to the first stable angular position by snap rotation in the opposite direction.
[0036] Since the inner end 6 of the control device 1 is connected to the engagement mechanism of the window, the first stable angular position corresponds to the turn-opening, the second stable angular position to the tilt-opening, the third stable angular position to the closing of the window, etc.
[0037] According to one embodiment, the pin 2 is not faceted with flat surfaces 8 over its entire length, but has a faceted engagement section, so that it has a multitude of flat surfaces 8 and so that the retaining elements 20 permanently act on at least one of these flat surfaces 8, thereby achieving an action that enables a snap rotation of the pin 2 between a first stable angular position and a second stable angular position.
[0038] The control device 1 according to the invention innovatively meets the requirements of industry, as it makes it possible to rotate the pin 2 in a finite number of predefined angular positions, while simultaneously overcoming the disadvantages of the prior art, since the overall dimensions are extremely reduced.
[0039] It is also advantageous that, due to the effect that develops between the retaining elements 20 and the pin 2, the operation of the control device 1 is practically backlash-free and the snap action between a stable angular position and another is extremely precise.
[0040] It is clear that, in order to meet current requirements, a person skilled in the art could make changes to the control device 1 described above, all of which are within the scope of protection as defined by the following claims.
