Abstract
Description
BACKGROUND
[0001] Capacitors used in electronic devices include capacitor leads that may be electrically connected to a printed circuit board (PCB) or other electronic component or device. For example, the capacitor leads may be electrically connected to terminals provided on the PCB. To maintain the electrical connection, the capacitor may be mechanically secured against movement relative to the PCB due to vibration or shock. In some applications, a capacitor support attached to the PCB is used to mechanically secure the capacitor to the PCB.
[0002] In some electronic devices that use capacitors, tin whiskers may grow at the proximal end of the capacitor lead, for example, where the lead exits the capacitor housing. Tin whiskers may also grow where the capacitor leads are electrically connected to the terminals, such as near the distal end of the lead. Furthermore, tin whiskers may grow where the terminals are electrically connected to the PCB. If these tin whiskers break off, they can create an unwanted electrical connection between components or leads on the PCB, for example, by causing an electrical short circuit.Although it is possible to prevent the growth of tin whiskers by applying coatings to the capacitor leads and / or using a soldering process to form certain electrical connections, such preventive measures can be expensive to implement in terms of materials and / or labor.
[0003] For example, US 2012 / 0238140A1 describes a printed circuit board connector for mounting an electrolytic capacitor, comprising a holder with a fitting, an insulating retaining section for holding the electrolytic capacitor, and a first terminal provided in the retaining section that can be electrically connected to a lead of the electrolytic capacitor; and a printed circuit board connector comprising an insulating housing with a retaining fitting for fitting into the fitting section and a second terminal provided in the housing and designed to connect the first terminal to a printed circuit board.Furthermore, US Patent 2012 / 0077356A1 describes a socket for receiving and securing an electrolytic capacitor on a circuit substrate, wherein the capacitor comprises a cylindrical housing with a lower end defining a bottom opening therein, a rubber gasket sealing the bottom opening of the housing, and a pair of terminals extending from the rubber gasket; wherein the socket comprises a holder with a top for receiving the lower end of the housing and connecting terminals provided in the holder for electrically connecting the pair of terminals to the circuit substrate; wherein the holder comprises: a retainer for releasably holding the housing of the capacitor and a recess defined in the top of the holder for accommodating a deformation of the sealing rubber of the capacitor. Each first wall structure comprises a first side, a second side opposite the first side, and a rim connecting the first side to the second side at an acute angle to both. The support comprises a second vessel section, which includes second wall structures configured to receive and support the second section of the condenser. Each second wall structure comprises a first side, a second side opposite the first side, and a rim connecting the first side to the second side at an acute angle to both. When the first container section and the second container section are assembled in a configuration where the edges of the first wall structures point to corresponding edges of the second wall structures, the edges of the first wall structures are parallel to the corresponding edges of the second wall structures. According to the invention, the first container section and the second container section are identical in shape and dimensions.
[0005] In some embodiments, the first wall structures and the second wall structures each define a semi-cylindrical section shaped and dimensioned to accommodate a section of a capacitor sheath, and a rectangular prism section shaped and dimensioned to accommodate a section of both a first capacitor lead and a second capacitor lead. The edges of both the first wall structures and the second wall structures surround at least one section of both the semi-cylindrical section and the rectangular prism section.
[0006] In some embodiments, the first wall structures and the second wall structures each comprise a first longitudinal wall section and a second longitudinal wall section parallel to the first longitudinal wall section. The edge of the first longitudinal wall section is parallel to the edge of the second longitudinal wall section. The first wall structures and the second wall structures each comprise a first transverse wall section perpendicular to and extending between the first and second longitudinal wall sections. The edge of the first transverse wall section comprises a first transverse edge section and a second transverse edge section. The first wall structures and the second wall structures each comprise a second transverse wall section parallel to the first transverse wall section. The edge of the second transverse wall section comprises a third transverse edge section and a fourth transverse edge section. The first transverse edge section is parallel to the third transverse edge section, the second transverse edge section is parallel to the fourth transverse edge section, and the first transverse edge section lies at an angle to the second transverse edge section.
[0007] In some embodiments, the first wall structures and the second wall structures each comprise a third longitudinal wall section that is parallel to the first longitudinal wall section and extends between the first transverse wall section and the second transverse wall section. The edge of the third longitudinal wall section is parallel to the edge of the first longitudinal wall section.
[0008] In some embodiments, the first wall structures and the second wall structures each comprise a bottom member, and the distance of the third transverse edge section to the bottom member differs from the distance of the fourth transverse edge section to the bottom member.
[0009] In some embodiments, the first wall structures and the second wall structures each comprise a first wall section, which includes a first wall section edge, and a second wall section that is parallel to and spaced apart from the first wall section. The second wall section includes a second section edge. The first wall structures and the second wall structures each comprise a third wall section that extends between the first wall section and the second wall section. The third wall section is curved such that it partially surrounds a longitudinal axis that is perpendicular to the first wall section and the second wall section. The third wall section includes a third wall section edge that extends longitudinally between the first wall section and the second wall section, and a fourth wall section edge that extends longitudinally between the first wall section and the second wall section and is parallel to the third wall section edge.
[0010] In some embodiments, the third wall section comprises a separator that projects from an inner surface of a third side of the first and second wall structures. The separator includes a curved separator cutout having dimensions corresponding to the shape and dimensions of a section of the condenser's casing. The separator cutout is configured to point toward a section of the casing, and the separator of the first vessel section interacts with the separator of the second vessel section to form an inner wall parallel to the first and second wall sections.
[0011] In some aspects, the capacitor support arrangement comprises the support and a capacitor arranged within the support, the capacitor comprising a sheath, a first capacitor lead, and a second capacitor lead. The first and second capacitor leads protrude from one end of the sheath.
[0012] In some aspects, a capacitor support is provided that encapsulates sections of the capacitor, including connection interfaces, where tin whiskers may grow. By encapsulating these sections, any tin whiskers present in the device are contained within the support, thus preventing the risk of an electrical short circuit.
[0013] The support is configured to securely mechanically support a capacitor relative to an electronic component or device, such as a PCB, and to provide an electrical connection between the capacitor and the electronic device. The support is a receptacle comprising a side wall, a cover that closes an open end of the side wall, and a frame section that projects from the side wall and interacts with the cover to hold the capacitor within the support. In some embodiments, the cover is separate from the side wall, and in other embodiments, an edge of the cover is connected to the side wall via a film hinge.
[0014] The side wall and cover include wall structures that enclose the capacitor cables, thus preventing contact between the whiskers and the PCB and its components in the event of whisker formation.
[0015] The carrier includes electrically conductive terminals that electrically connect the capacitor leads to the PCB. The cover is held in a closed position relative to the side wall by the terminals. In some embodiments, the cover, which is held in a closed position relative to the side wall by the terminals, also includes latches that secure the cover to the side wall, while in other embodiments the latches may be omitted.
[0016] According to the invention, the carrier housing is an arrangement of two container-shaped housing sections, and the housing sections are identical in shape and dimensions. This allows a single part to be used for both housing sections, thereby simplifying manufacturing logistics and reducing costs compared to embodiments where the two housing sections are different.
[0017] In some embodiments, the mating edges of the two container-shaped housings are "scaled," allowing the carrier housing to expand or contract to accommodate capacitors of different diameters while still enclosing the capacitor within the carrier housing. As used here, the term "scaled" refers to the provision of acute-angled mating or connecting edges of the housing sections such that the connecting edges overlap when the carrier housing is viewed from the side. DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0018] With reference to Fig. 1-5 A capacitor support assembly 1 mechanically supports a capacitor 2 with respect to an electronic component or device, such as a PCB 18, and provides an electrical connection between the capacitor 2 and the PCB 18. The capacitor support assembly 1 comprises a support 20, and the capacitor 2 is arranged in the support 20. Furthermore, the capacitor support assembly 1 includes electrically conductive terminals 80 and support terminals 100. The terminals 80 are supported by the support 20 and provide an electrical connection between the leads 8 of the capacitor 2 and contact sockets 19 of the PCB 18. The support terminals 100 are also supported by the support 20 and, together with the terminals 80, mechanically secure the support 20 to the PCB 18. The support 20 is a receptacle that accommodates the capacitor 2 and holds it with respect to the PCB 18.Furthermore, the carrier includes 20 wall structures that enclose the capacitor cables 8, as discussed below, thereby preventing contact between the whiskers and the PCB 18 and its components in the event of whisker formation.
[0019] The capacitor 2 can, for example, be an electrolytic radial capacitor. The capacitor 2 comprises a capacitor casing 4 with a generally cylindrical shape, comprising a closed first end 5 and an opposing open second end 6. The capacitor casing 4 is elongated along a longitudinal axis 15 that is perpendicular to the first and second ends 5, 6 of the capacitor and that is collinear with a centerline of the casing 4. The second end 6 is plugged with a rubber stopper 7, and the casing 4 is crimped around the stopper 7 to form an airtight seal between the casing 4 and the stopper 7. At the crimp location, the casing 4 comprises an annular region 14 with a diameter that is reduced at each end 5, 6 relative to the diameter of the casing 4. The annular region 14 extends around the circumference of the capacitor 2 and is located near the second end 6 (e.g.arranged between the second end 6 and a midpoint of the capacitor 2).
[0020] The capacitor 2 comprises a pair of capacitor cables 8, which project longitudinally and linearly from the plug 7 located in the second end 6 of the sheath. Each of the capacitor cables 8 comprises a proximal end 10, corresponding to the point where the capacitor cable 8 exits the capacitor 2, and a distal end 12, which is opposite the proximal end and spaced apart from the plug 7.
[0021] With simultaneous reference to Fig. 6-15 the support includes 20 wall structures 21 configured to support and at least partially surround the capacitor 2.
[0022] The wall structures 21 comprise a side wall 23 arranged to form a closed rectangular area. The side wall 23 includes a first side 24 and a second side 25, which is parallel to and spaced apart from the first side 24 and from the longitudinal axis 15 of the capacitor. The side wall 23 includes a third side 26, which faces the second end 6 of the capacitor. The third side 26 connects the first side 24 to the second side 25 and is perpendicular to both the first and second sides 24 and 25. The side wall 23 includes a fourth side 27, which faces the first end 5 of the capacitor. The fourth side 27 is parallel to and spaced apart from the third side 26 and connects the first side 24 to the second side 25.
[0023] The first side 24 comprises a terminal opening 36 located near the third side 26, and a support terminal opening 38 located near the fourth side 27. Similarly, the second side 25 comprises a terminal opening 37 located near the third side 26, and a support terminal opening 39 located near the fourth side 27. The openings 36, 37, 38, and 39 accommodate and hold the respective terminal and support terminals 80 and 100, as discussed in more detail below.
[0024] The side wall 23 further comprises a frame 33, which projects inwards from the side wall 23 and is configured to support the capacitor 2 within the side wall. The frame 33 comprises a first frame section 33a, which projects inwards from the first side 24 of the side wall, and a second frame section 33b, which projects inwards from the second side 25 of the side wall ( Fig. 9) Although the first and second frame sections 33a, 33b extend towards each other, there is a gap between them. The first and second frame sections 33a, 33b each define a curved surface 33c facing the capacitor, which is concave and has a partial circular profile when viewed in cross-section ( Fig. 12). In particular, the surface 33c facing the capacitor has a shape that corresponds to the shape and dimensions of a section of a surface of the capacitor casing 4. When the capacitor 2 is in the support 20 in the orientation according to the illustration in Fig. 2 is arranged, the capacitor 2 rests on the frame 33 and is surrounded by the first, second, third and fourth sides 24, 25, 26, 27.
[0025] In addition to the side wall 23, the wall structures 21 include a cover 40 that selectively closes one end (e.g., an upper end) of the side wall 23. The cover 40 closes one end of the side wall 23 and includes a curved section 48 and a planar section 49 ( Fig. 2) The planar section 49 of the cover 40 superimposes the capacitor cables 8 and a base member 59a, which is discussed below. The planar section 49 includes a pair of elongated openings 43, 44 configured to receive and retain the ends of the terminal blocks 80, as discussed in more detail below. The curved section 48 of the cover 40 superimposes the frame 33 and the capacitor 2 supported thereon. The inwardly facing surface 41 of the curved section 48 is concave and has a pitched circular profile when viewed in cross-section ( Fig. 12) In particular, the inwardly facing surface 41 of the curved section 48 has a shape that corresponds to the shape and dimensions of a section of a surface of the capacitor casing 4. The curved section 48 further comprises cover openings 47 which advantageously allow the determination of whether a capacitor 2 is arranged in the support 20 by visual inspection, even when the cover 40 is closed. In the illustrated embodiment, the cover 40 comprises three relatively large cover openings 47. For example, the sum of the three areas defined by the cover openings 47 is at least half the total area of the curved section 48. In addition, the curved section 48 comprises an elongated opening 45 at a location that overlaps the first side 24 of the side wall. The opening 45 is configured to receive and hold one end of one of the support clamps 100, as discussed in more detail below.
[0026] A film hinge 34 extends along a rear edge 46 of the cover 40 and connects the rear edge 46 of the cover 40 to the second side 25 of the side wall 23. Thus, the cover 40, the film hinge 34, and the side wall 23 are integrally formed. In the illustrated embodiment, the film hinge 34 is a single continuous hinge extending along the curved section 48, whereas the planar section 49 is hinge-free. In other embodiments, the film hinge 34 may be interrupted. The film hinge 34 is relatively thin with respect to the thickness of the second side 25 of the side wall or the cover 40, so that the film hinge 34 can be easily folded.
[0027] The wall structures 21 also include floor elements 59a, 59b and 59c ( Fig. 10), which close a section of the end (e.g., a lower end) of the side wall 23 opposite the cover 40. The first bottom member 59a is a planar member located beneath the planar section 49 of the cover. The first bottom member 59a extends between the first side 24 of the side wall and the second side 25 of the side wall and abuts the third side 26 of the side wall. The second and third bottom members 59b and 59c are curved to conform to the shape and dimensions of the outer surface of the capacitor 2 and lie beneath the curved section 48 of the cover. The second and third bottom members 59b and 59c extend between the first side 24 of the side wall and the second side 25 of the side wall. The second bottom member 59b is positioned between the first bottom member 59a and the frame 33 and supports the second end 6 of the capacitor 2.The third floor element 59c is arranged between the frame 33 and the fourth side 27 of the side wall and supports the first end 5 of the capacitor 2.
[0028] The wall structures 21 further comprise a first separating element 29 and a second separating element 42 ( Fig. 1 and Fig. 11), which are configured to engage with the capacitor casing 4 along the annular area 14, thereby holding the capacitor 2 in a desired longitudinal position relative to the capacitor support 20.
[0029] In particular, the first separating element 29 projects from the second bottom element 59b to the cover 40. The first separating element 29 is in the form of a planar wall that is parallel to the third and fourth sides 26, 27 of the side wall. Fixed edges of the first separating element 29 abut the first side 24 of the side wall, the second bottom element 59b, and the second side 25 of the side wall. The first separating element 29 includes a free edge 29a that faces the cover 40, and the free edge 29a includes a first curved cutout 29b. The first cutout 29b has a shape and dimensions that correspond to the shape and dimensions of the annular region 14 of the capacitor.
[0030] The second separating element 42 projects from the curved section 48 of the cover 40 to the second bottom element 59. The second separating element 42 forms a planar wall parallel to the third and fourth sides 26, 27 of the side wall. Fixed edges of the second separating element 42 abut the inner surface of the curved section 48 of the cover. The second separating element 42 includes a free edge 42a facing the second bottom element 59b, and the free edge 42a includes a curved second cutout 42b. The second cutout 42b has a shape and dimensions corresponding to the shape and dimensions of the annular region 14 of the capacitor.
[0031] The first cutout 29b and the second cutout 42b are accommodated within the annular region 14 of the capacitor and, in combination, extend along substantially the entire circumference of the capacitor 2 within the annular region 14. Through this configuration, the first separating element 29 and the second separating element 42 act together to form an inner wall 32 that tightly surrounds the capacitor 2 within the annular region 14. This holds the capacitor 2 in a desired longitudinal position with respect to the third and fourth sides 26, 27 of the side wall. Furthermore, any whiskers forming at the proximal end 10 of the capacitor leads 8 are held between the inner wall 32 and the third side 26 of the side wall.
[0032] The wall structures 21 also include a T-shaped cable support wall 52 ( Fig. 1 and Fig. 9), which projects from the first floor member 59a and is located in the support 20 between the inner wall 32 and the third side 26 of the side wall 23. There is a small gap between an upper edge of the cable support wall 52 and the planar section 49 of the cover 40. As used here, references to directions such as upper, lower, above, below, over, under, etc., are made with respect to the orientation of the in Fig. 2 Capacitor carrier arrangement 1 shown. It is understood that the capacitor carrier arrangement 1 is not intended for use in the in Fig. The orientation shown in point 2 is limited.
[0033] The cable support wall 52 has a transverse section 54 that is parallel to the third and fourth sides 26, 27 of the side wall. There is a small gap between the lateral ends of the transverse section 54 and the respective first and second sides 24, 25 of the side wall. Furthermore, the cable support wall 52 has a longitudinal section 53 that is parallel to the first and second sides 24, 25 of the side wall and extends between the third side 26 of the side wall and the transverse section 54. The longitudinal section 53 abuts the transverse section 54 at a midpoint of the transverse section 54 and the third side 26 of the side wall at a midpoint of the third side 26. The transverse section 54 of the cable support wall 52 faces the second end 6 of the capacitor and includes a first and a second cable receiving cutout 55, 56 that are open along the upper edge of the transverse section 54.The first cable entry cutout 55 is arranged between the longitudinal section 53 and the first side 24 of the side wall, and the second cable entry cutout 56 is arranged between the longitudinal section 53 and the second side 25 of the side wall. When the capacitor 2 is arranged in the support 20, one of the capacitor cables 8 extends through the first cable entry cutout 55 and a second of the capacitor cables 8 extends through the second cable entry cutout 56.
[0034] In this configuration, the proximal ends 10 of the capacitor cables 8 are located on a side of the transverse section 54 opposite the distal ends 12. Furthermore, the terminal blocks 80 are located on opposite sides of the transverse section 54 of the cable support wall 52. The proximal ends 10 and the distal ends 12 of the capacitor cables, including the points where the capacitor cables 8 are connected to the terminal blocks 80 (e.g., the connection points), are encapsulated in a closed interior space, hereinafter referred to as the encapsulation chamber 50. The encapsulation chamber 50 is defined between the inner wall 32 and the third side 26 of the side wall, between sections of the first and second sides 24, 25 of the side wall adjacent to the third side 26, and between the first bottom member 59a and the planar section 49 of the cover.
[0035] The encapsulation chamber 50 is configured to contain any whiskers that may form on the capacitor leads 8, thus preventing contact between the whiskers and the PCB 18 and its components. Furthermore, the encapsulation chamber 50, which comprises the transverse section 54 of the cable support wall 52, separates the points where the capacitor leads 8 are connected to the terminals 80 from the proximal lead ends 10. Additionally, the encapsulation chamber 50, which comprises the longitudinal section 53 of the cable support wall 52, separates the points where the capacitor leads 8 are connected to the terminals 80 from each other. This separation of the points where the capacitor leads 8 are connected to the terminals 80 from the proximal lead ends 10 and from each other prevents whiskers from causing an electrical short circuit between the capacitor leads 8.
[0036] With reference to Fig. 5 and Fig. The capacitor support assembly 1 comprises a pair of electrically conductive terminals 80 and a pair of electrically conductive support terminals 100. The terminals 80 and the support terminals 100 mechanically secure the support 20 to the PCB 18. Furthermore, the terminals 80 electrically connect the capacitor cables 8 to the contact sockets 19 of the PCB. Additionally, the terminals 80 and one of the support terminals 100 mechanically secure the cover 40 to the side wall 23. The terminals 80 and the support terminals 100 will now be described in more detail.
[0037] The terminals 80 are press-fitted into the terminal openings 36, 37, which are provided in the carrier 20, at a point next to the second end 6 of the capacitor and the capacitor cables 8.
[0038] Each terminal 80 is an electrically conductive thin plate comprising a first end 81, a second end 82 opposite the first end 81, and a center point 78 located midway between the first end 81 and the second end 82. Each terminal 80 includes a first side edge 90 extending between the first end 81 and the second end 82, and a second side edge 91 parallel to the first side edge 90 and extending between the first end 81 and the second end 82. The terminal 80 is elongated such that the distance between the first side edge 90 and the second side edge 91 is less than the distance between the first end 81 and the second end 82.
[0039] Each terminal 80 comprises a first surface 93 and a second surface 94 opposite the first surface 93. The first and second surfaces 93, 94 are bounded by the first end 81, the second end 82, the first side edge 90 and the second side edge 91.
[0040] The second end 82 of the terminal block comprises a plug 89 configured for press-fitting into an electrically conductive socket. In the illustrated embodiment, the second end 82 of the terminal block comprises a pair of plugs 89 arranged side by side and configured to be received in the contact socket 19 of the PCB 18. In use, the plugs 89 provide an electrical and a mechanical connection between the terminal block 80 and the PCB 18.
[0041] The first and second side edges 90, 91 of each terminal 80 comprise a serrated area 98. Specifically, the serrated area 98 is located on both the first and second side edges 90, 91 at a position situated between the first end 81 and the midpoint 78. The serrated area 98 comprises a series of closely spaced projecting ribs 74, each rib 74 terminating in a vertex 76.
[0042] Each terminal 80 comprises a cover retaining section 83, a PCB connection section 84 and a body section 85, which is arranged between the cover retaining section 83 and the PCB connection section 84.
[0043] The cover retaining section 83 of the terminal block comprises the first end 81 of the terminal block and the serrated area 98. The cover retaining section 83 is configured to be received and held in a corresponding opening 43, 44 in the cover 40, as discussed in more detail below.
[0044] The PCB connection section 84 of the terminal block includes the second terminal end 82 of the terminal block 80, including the pair of connector plugs 89 which are received in a contact socket 19 of the PCB 18.
[0045] The body section 85 of the terminal block extends between the cover retaining section 83 and the PCB terminal section 84 and includes a flange 92 projecting from a lateral side edge 90 of the terminal block 80. The flange 92 projects in a direction perpendicular to the second surface 94 (e.g., a side of the body section 85 facing the capacitor). The body section 85, excluding the flange 92, is coplanar with the cover retaining section 83 and the PCB terminal section 84 and lies in a plane parallel to the first and second sides 24, 25 of the side wall.
[0046] The flange 92 provides an insulation displacement contact (IDC) 88 configured to receive a capacitor cable 8 and establish an electrical connection with it. In the illustrated embodiment, the IDC 88 is a narrow V-shaped cutout that is open at the top, e.g., towards the carrier cover 40. In use, the body section 85 is electrically connected to a respective capacitor cable 8 at a connection point 86, which corresponds to the connection point between the capacitor cable 8 and the IDC 88. Since the capacitor cable 8 forms an electrical connection with the terminal 80 via the IDC 88, the capacitor 2 is electrically connected to the PCB 18 via the terminal 80. The flange 92, including the connection point 86, is arranged in the encapsulation chamber 50, thereby encapsulating the electrical connection between the capacitor cable 8 and the terminal 80.
[0047] A section of the body section 85, which is arranged between the flange 92 and the PCB connection section 84, is a planar plate which is shaped and dimensioned for press fitting into the terminal openings 36, 37 provided in the side wall 23 at a location next to the second end 6 of the capacitor, thereby securing the carrier 20 to the respective terminals 80.
[0048] The support terminals 100 are electrically conductive terminals that are press-fitted into the support terminal openings 38, 39 provided in the side wall 23 at a location next to the first end 5 of the capacitor.
[0049] The support terminals 100 are similar to the connection terminals 80. For this reason, corresponding elements are designated with corresponding reference numerals, and the description of the corresponding elements is not repeated. The support terminals 100 differ from the connection terminals 80 in that the support terminals 100 do not include a flange 92 or IDC 88. Furthermore, the first side edge 90 and the second side edge 91 of the support terminals 300 each include a shoulder 95, corresponding to a point where the body section 85 widens. The shoulders 95 are located between the serrated area 98 and the second end 82 of the support terminal.
[0050] Furthermore, although the support terminal 100 is electrically conductive and the support terminal plugs 89 are inserted into the contact socket 19 of the PCB 18, the support terminal 100 is not electrically connected to the capacitor 2. Thus, the support terminal 100 provides a mechanical connection between the carrier 20 and the PCB 18 and does not provide an electrical connection between the capacitor 2 and the PCB 18.
[0051] Although the cover 40 is secured to the side wall 23 by the two terminal blocks 80 and the foremost support clamp 100, the cover 40 can also include latches 60. The latches 60 are an additional safety feature that ensures the cover 40 remains secured to the side wall 23, thus allowing the capacitor carrier 20 to function reliably (e.g., to hold the capacitor 2 within it and to maintain an electrical connection to the PCB contact sockets 19) regardless of extreme operating conditions, such as in applications involving strong vibrations or mechanical shocks. The latches 60 are located on one side of the carrier 20 opposite the film hinge 34 and are spaced apart from one another.
[0052] Each locking mechanism 60 comprises a hook section 62 and a loop section 63 that engages with the hook section 62, thereby preventing the cover 40 from pivoting around the film hinge 34. The hook section 62 projects outward from the outer surface of the first side 24 of the side wall. The hook section 62 has a rectangular profile when viewed from the support 20 facing the first side 24 of the side wall. The hook section 62 has an angled outwardly facing surface 66. An upper end of the outwardly facing surface 66 is flush with the first side 24 of the side wall, and a lower end of the outwardly facing surface 66 is spaced from the first side 24 of the side wall, giving the hook section a profile in the form of a right-angled triangle in cross-section.The lower edge 68 of the hook section 62 is parallel to the first base segment 59a and provides an engagement surface that abuts a surface of the loop section 63. The loop section 63 is a straight loop that hangs down from the forward-facing surface of the cover 40 and defines a passage opening 64. When the cover 40 closes the open end of the side wall 23, the loop section 63 overlaps the first side 24 of the side wall at a point corresponding to a respective hook section 62. Furthermore, when the cover 40 is closed, the hook section 62 is received in the passage opening 64, and an upward-facing edge 65 of the passage opening 64 along a lower end of the loop section 63 engages with the lower edge 68 of the hook section 62, thus preventing the cover 40 from pivoting around the film hinge 34.
[0053] Although the carrier 20 in the illustration has two locking mechanisms 60, it is understood that the carrier 20 may include a higher or lower number of locking mechanisms depending on the requirements of the specific application. Furthermore, it is considered that there may be applications in which the locking mechanisms can be omitted, as shown, for example, in the capacitor carrier of the second embodiment described below.
[0054] With reference to Fig. 17-32 comprises a capacitor support arrangement 201 of an alternative embodiment, a support 220 of an alternative embodiment, and the capacitor 2 is arranged in the support 220. Furthermore, the capacitor support arrangement 201 comprises terminal blocks 280 and support terminals 300 of an alternative embodiment. The capacitor support arrangement 201, which is in Fig. The one shown on page 17-32 is similar to the one above, with reference to Fig. The capacitor support arrangement 1 described in Figures 1-16 differs in that the terminals 280 are supported by the support 220 and provide an electrical connection between the cables 8 of the capacitor 2 and the contact sockets 19 of an electronic component or device, such as the PCB 18. The support terminals 300 are supported by the support 20 and, together with the terminals 280, mechanically secure the support 220 to the PCB 18. Like the support 20, the support 220 is a receptacle that accommodates the capacitor 2 and holds it relative to the PCB 18. In addition, the support 220 includes wall structures that enclose the capacitor cables 8, as discussed in more detail below, thereby preventing contact between the whiskers and the PCB 18 and its components in the event of whisker formation.
[0055] The support 220 comprises a first container section 222(1) configured to receive and support a first section of the condenser 2, and a second container section 222(2) configured to receive and support a second section of the condenser 2. The first container section 222(1) and the second container section 222(2) are each hemispheres with an open side 227, and when assembled, they define an interior configured to receive and hold the condenser 2.
[0056] The first container section 222(1) and the second container section 222(2) each have the same shape and dimensions, so that the first container section 222(1) and the second container section 222(2) are identical. By using two identical parts to provide the carrier 220, manufacturing costs are reduced, and parts logistics and assembly are simplified compared to, for example, the embodiment described above. Since the first container section 222(1) and the second container section 222(2) have the same shape and dimensions, only the first container section 222(1) will be described in more detail and will be referred to as the “container section 222”.
[0057] The vessel section 222 comprises wall structures 221 providing a semi-cylindrical section 204 shaped and dimensioned to accommodate and support a section of the capacitor casing 4, and a rectangular prism section 206 shaped and dimensioned to accommodate the first capacitor cable and the second capacitor cable.
[0058] The wall structures 211, which provide the semi-cylindrical section 204, form a hollow structure with a generally semi-cylindrical shape. In particular, the wall structures 221, which provide the semi-cylindrical section 204, define one half of a cylinder, the cylinder being bisected in its vertical direction. Accordingly, the wall structures 221 comprise a generally planar first side 224, a generally planar second side 225, which is parallel to and spaced apart from the first side 224, and a third side 226, which extends between the first and second sides 224, 225. The third side 226 is curved such that it partially surrounds a longitudinal axis 234 of the container section, which is parallel to the vertical direction of the cylinder and perpendicular to the first and second sides 224, 225.
[0059] The respective inner surfaces 224a, 225a, 226a of the first side 224, the second side 225, and the third side 226 face the capacitor 2 when a capacitor 2 is arranged in the support 220. The respective outer surfaces 225b, 226b of the second side 225 and the third side 226 define sections of the outer surface of the container section 222. The first side 224 is divided together with the rectangular prism section 206, whereby an outer surface 224b of the first side 224 forms a section of the encapsulation chamber 250, as discussed below.
[0060] The first side 224 has a free or exposed first rim 261, and the second side 225 has a free or exposed second rim 262. The curved third side 226 has a free or exposed third rim 263 and a free or exposed fourth rim 264, which is parallel to and spaced apart from the third rim 263. The respective first, second, third, and fourth rims 261, 262, 263, 264 of the semi-cylindrical section 204 together form a rectangular profile when the container section 222 is viewed facing the open side 227. The first edge 261, the third edge 263, and the fourth edge 264 are at acute angles to the respective inner and outer surfaces 224a and 224b, 225a and 225b, 226a and 226b of the first, second, and third sides 224, 225, 226, respectively. Furthermore, the third edge 263 and the fourth edge 264 are parallel to each other.
[0061] The inner surface 226a of the curved third side 226 provides a frame 233 configured to support the capacitor 2 within the side wall. The frame 233 has a semicircular profile when viewed in cross-section ( Fig. 26). In particular, the frame 233 has a shape that corresponds to the shape and dimensions of a section of a surface of the capacitor casing 4.
[0062] In some embodiments, the frame 233 may include deformable capacitor support structures that prevent the capacitor 2 from moving within the support during use under vibration and / or shock conditions. For example, in the illustrated embodiment, the frame 233 includes two circumferentially spaced-apart compression ribs 233a that project radially inward from the inner surface 226 of the third side ( Fig. 21, Fig. 22). The compression ribs 233 have a generally triangular profile, and the vertex of each compression rib 233a is configured to be compressed or deformed to accommodate capacitors of different diameters. As an alternative to the use of compression ribs 233a, the frame 233 can include an elastic spring feature (not shown) projecting inward from the inner surface 226a of the third side, elastically accommodating capacitors of different diameters.
[0063] If the capacitor 2 is in the carrier 220 in the Fig. In the orientation shown in Figure 18, the capacitor 2 rests on the frame 233 and is partially surrounded by the first, second, and third sides 224, 225, 226 and bordered by their respective edges 261, 262, 263, 264.
[0064] The outer surface 226b of the third side 226 is truncated to provide a flat section 218 that is parallel to the open side 227. The third side 226 further comprises a single container opening 247 located at the flat section 218. The container opening 247 advantageously allows visual inspection to determine whether the condenser 2 is located in the support 220.
[0065] The wall structures 221, which provide the semi-cylindrical section 204, include a separator 229 configured to engage with the capacitor casing 4 along the annular region 14, thereby holding the capacitor 2 in a desired longitudinal position with respect to the capacitor support 20. Specifically, the separator 229 projects from the inner surface 226a of the third side 226 to the open side 227 in a direction perpendicular to the inner surface 226a of the third side. The separator 229 is parallel to the first and second sides 224, 225 and includes a free edge 229a facing the open side 227. The free edge 229a includes a curved (semicircular) separator cutout 229b. The separator cutout 229b has a shape and dimensions corresponding to the shape and dimensions of a section of the circumference of the casing 4.In particular, the separating element cutout 229b has a shape and dimensions that correspond to the shape and dimensions of a section of a circumference of the annular region 14 of the capacitor.
[0066] The wall structures 221, which provide the rectangular prism section 206, comprise four side wall sections arranged to form a frame (e.g., a closed rectangular area). Specifically, the four side wall sections comprise a first transverse section corresponding to the first side 224, which is shared with the semi-cylindrical section 204, and a planar second transverse section 251 parallel to the first side 224. The first side 224 and the second transverse section 251 each extend in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis 234.
[0067] The four side wall sections comprise a planar first longitudinal section 252, which extends between the first side 224 and the second transverse section 251 in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis 234 and is slightly inward with respect to the third edge 263. Furthermore, the four side wall sections comprise a planar second longitudinal section 253, which extends between the first side 224 and the second transverse section 251 in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis 234 and is slightly inward with respect to the fourth edge 264. The wall structures 221, which provide the rectangular prism section 206, also comprise a planar third longitudinal wall section 254, which extends between the first side 224 and the second transverse section 251 in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis 234 and is located between the first and second longitudinal sections 252, 253.
[0068] The outer surface 224b of the first side 224, the inner surface 251a of the second transverse section 251, and the respective inner surfaces 252a, 253a of the first and second longitudinal sections 252, 253 face the capacitor cables 8 when a capacitor 2 is arranged in the support 220. The third longitudinal section 254 is arranged between the capacitor cables 8 when a capacitor 2 is arranged in the support 220. The respective outer surfaces 252b, 253b, 251b of the first longitudinal section 252, the second longitudinal section 253, and the second transverse section 251 define sections of the outer surface of the container section 222.
[0069] The wall structures 221, which provide the rectangular prism section 206, include a base member 259 that closes one end of the frame opposite the open side 227. The base member 259 is planar and parallel to the open side 227. The periphery of the base member 259 borders the first side 224, the second transverse section 251, the first longitudinal section 252, and the second longitudinal section 253.
[0070] The first longitudinal section 252 has a fifth free or exposed edge 265, the second longitudinal section 253 has a sixth free or exposed edge 266, and the third longitudinal section 254 has a seventh free or exposed edge 267. The respective first, fifth, sixth, and seventh edges 261, 265, 266, 267 of the rectangular prism section 206 together form a rectangular profile when the container section 222 is viewed facing the open side 227. The fifth, sixth, and seventh edges 265, 266, 267 are at acute angles to the inner and outer surfaces 252a and 252b, 253a and 253b, 254a and 254b of the first, second, and third longitudinal sections 252, 253, 254, respectively. Furthermore, the fifth, sixth and seventh margins 265, 266, 267 are parallel to each other.
[0071] The first side 224 (corresponding to the first transverse section) has the first free or exposed margin 261, and the second transverse section 251 has an eighth free or exposed margin 268. In addition, the first side 224 and the second transverse section 251 each have a break in a height dimension. Accordingly, a first section 261(1), 268(1) of the first rim 261 or eighth rim 268 has a first height dimension, and a second section 261(2), 268(2) of the first rim 261 and the eighth rim 268 has a second height dimension, wherein a height dimension corresponds to a distance of the respective rim 261, 268 from the bottom member 259, and wherein the first sections 261(1), 268(1) are the sections that are closest to the third rim 263, and the second sections 261(2), 268(2) are the sections that are closest to the fourth rim 264.In the embodiment shown, the first sections 261(1), 268(1) are shorter than the second sections 261(2), 268(2).
[0072] Both the first sections 261(1), 268(1) of the first and eighth margins 261, 268 and the second sections 261(2), 268(2) of the first and eighth margins 261, 268 are at acute angles to the inner and outer surfaces 224a and 224b, 251a and 251b of the first side 224 and of the second transverse section 251, respectively. The first section 261(1) of the first boundary 261 is parallel to the first section 268(1) of the eighth boundary 268, and the second section 261(2) of the first boundary 261 is parallel to the second section 268(2) of the eighth boundary 268, the angle of the first sections 261(1), 268(1) being opposite to the angle of the second sections 261(2), 268(2).
[0073] The first section 261(1) and the second section 261(2) of the first rim 261 each comprise a curved cutout 270 which is shaped and dimensioned to accommodate a capacitor cable 8 with a clearance fit.
[0074] The first container section 222(1) and the second container section 222(2) are assembled such that the free edges of the first container section are opposite the respective free edges of the second container section 222(2). In particular, the first edge 261 of the first container section 222(1) abuts the first edge 261 of the second container section 222(2) and is parallel to it, the second edge 262 of the first container section 222(1) points towards the second edge 262 of the second container section 222(2) and is parallel to it, the third edge 263 of the first container section 222(1) abuts the fourth edge 264 of the second container section 222(2) and is parallel to it, and the fourth edge 264 of the first container section 222(1) abuts the third edge 263 of the second container section 222(2) and is parallel to it.The fifth rim 265 of the first container section 222(1) abuts and is parallel to the sixth rim 266 of the second container section 222(2), the sixth rim 266 of the first container section 222(1) abuts and is parallel to the fifth rim 265 of the second container section 222(2), the seventh rim 267 of the first container section 222(1) abuts and is parallel to the seventh rim 267 of the second container section 222(2), and the eighth rim 268 of the first container section 222(1) abuts and is parallel to the eighth rim 268 of the second container section 222(2). Accordingly, when the first container section 222(1) is joined to the second container section 222(2), all of the connected edges 261, 263, 264, 265, 266, 267, 268 are “scraped”, such that the connected edges 261, 263, 264, 265, 266, 267, 268, when viewed along a plane 235 encompassing the open side 227,(e.g., from points located within it) overlap. Since all connected edges 261, 263, 264, 265, 266, 267, 268 are shingled, the support 220 can widen to accommodate a capacitor 2 of different sizes and still enclose the capacitors 2.
[0075] With reference to Fig. In the assembled configuration of the first container section 222(1) and the second container section 222(2), the respective semi-cylindrical sections 204 of both the first container section 222(1) and the second container section 222(2) interact to form a cylindrical chamber that accommodates the condenser casing 4. The separating element 229 of the first container section 222(1) interacts with the separating element 229 of the second container section 222(2) to form an inner wall 232. Furthermore, the separating element cutout 229b of the first vessel section 222(1) and the separating element cutout 229b of the second vessel section 222(2) are accommodated in the annular region 14 of the condenser and extend along substantially the entire circumference of the condenser 2 within the annular region 14. Through this configuration, the separating elements 229 of the first and second vessel sections 222(2) act asof the second container section 222(1), 222(2) together in such a way as to closely surround the condenser 2 within the annular area 14, and the condenser 2 is held in a desired longitudinal position with respect to the support 220.
[0076] The proximal and distal ends 10, 12 of the capacitor cables 8, including the connection points 32 where the capacitor cables 8 are connected to the terminals 280, are encapsulated in a closed interior space, which is hereinafter referred to as an encapsulation chamber 250. The encapsulation chamber 250 is defined between the inner wall 232 and the second transverse section 251, between the first and second longitudinal sections 252, 253, and between the respective bottom sections 259 of the first and second container sections 222(1), 222(2).
[0077] The encapsulation chamber 250 is configured to contain any whiskers that may form on the capacitor leads 8, thus preventing contact between the whiskers and the PCB 18 and its components. Furthermore, the encapsulation chamber 250 is divided into three separate encapsulation zones 241, 242, and 243, which separate the respective terminals 86 of the capacitor leads 8 from each other and from the proximal ends 10 of the capacitor leads 8. Specifically, the encapsulation chamber 250 comprises a first zone 241, defined between the inner wall 232, the first side 224, and the corresponding sections of the third side 226. The first zone 241 encapsulates the proximal end 10 of each capacitor lead 8.The encapsulation chamber 250 comprises a second zone 242, defined between the first side 224, the second transverse sections 251, the first longitudinal section 252, the third longitudinal section 254, and the respective bottom sections 259 of the first and second container sections 222(1), 222(2). The second zone 242 encapsulates the connection point 86 and the distal end 12 of one of the capacitor cables 8. Furthermore, the encapsulation chamber 250 comprises a third zone 243, defined between the first side 244, the second transverse sections 251, the first longitudinal section 252, the third longitudinal section 254, and the respective bottom sections 259 of the first and second container sections 222(1), 222(2). The third zone 243 encapsulates the connection point 86 and the distal end 12 of the other capacitor cable 8.
[0078] The first container section 222(1) and the second container section 222(2) each include terminal openings 236, 237 configured to receive and hold the respective terminals 280. The first terminal opening 236, 237 extends through the bottom section 259 at a location adjacent to the first longitudinal section 252, and a second terminal opening 237 extends through the bottom section 259 at a location adjacent to the second longitudinal section 253.
[0079] Furthermore, the first container section 222(1) and the second container section 222(2) each include support clamp openings 238, 239 configured to receive and hold the respective support clamps 300. The first 238 of the support clamp openings 238, 239 extends through a first projection 248 located on the outer surface 226b of the third side 226. The first projection 248 is positioned at an intersection of the third free edge 263 with the second side 225. The second 239 of the support clamp openings 238, 239 extends through a second projection 249 located on the outer surface 226b of the third side 226. The second projection 249 is positioned at an intersection of the fourth free edge 264 with the second side 225.
[0080] In this configuration, when the first container section 222(1) and the second container section 222(2) are in the assembled configuration, each of the terminal openings 236, 237 of the first container section 222(1) is aligned with a corresponding terminal opening 236, 237 of the second container section 222(2). Likewise, when the first container section 222(1) and the second container section 222(2) are in the assembled configuration, each of the support terminal openings 238, 239 of the first container section 222(1) is aligned with a corresponding support terminal opening 238, 239 of the second container section 222(2).
[0081] In addition to the first container section 222(1) and the second container section 222(2) of the support 220, the capacitor support arrangement 201 includes the connection terminals 280 and the support terminals 300.
[0082] With reference to Fig. 28 and Fig. The terminals 280 are press-fitted into the terminal openings 236, 237. Each terminal 280 is an electrically conductive thin plate comprising a first end 281, a second end 282 opposite the first end 281, and a center point 278 located midway between the first end 281 and the second end 282. Each terminal 280 comprises a first side edge 290 extending between the first end 281 and the second end 282, and a second side edge 291 parallel to the first side edge 290 extending between the first end 281 and the second end 282. The terminal 280 is elongated such that the distance between the first side edge 290 and the second side edge 291 is less than the distance between the first end 281 and the second end 282. Each terminal 280 comprises a first surface 293 and a second surface 294, which is opposite the first surface 293.The first and second surfaces 293, 294 are bounded by the first end 281, the second end 282, the first side margin 290 and the second side margin 291.
[0083] The second end 282 of the terminal block comprises a plug 289 configured for press-fitting into an electrically conductive socket. In the illustrated embodiment, the second end 282 of the terminal block comprises a pair of plugs 289 arranged side by side and configured to be received in the contact socket 19 of the PCB 18. In use, the plugs 289 provide an electrical and a mechanical connection between the terminal block 280 and the PCB 18.
[0084] The first and second side edges 290, 291 of each terminal 280 comprise a first and a second serrated area 298, 299. Specifically, the serrated area 298 is located on both the first and second side edges 290, 291 at a position between the first end 281 and the midpoint 278. Furthermore, the second serrated area 299 is located on both the first and second side edges 290, 291 at a position between the midpoint 278 and the second end 282. Each serrated area 298, 299 comprises a series of closely spaced projecting ribs 274, each rib 274 terminating in a vertex 276.
[0085] Each terminal 280 comprises a first and a second elastic element 272, 273 projecting from the first surface 293. Specifically, the first elastic element 272 projects from the first surface 293 at a location positioned between the first end 281 and the midpoint 278, such that it is flanked by the serrations of the first serrated area 298. Furthermore, the second elastic element 273 projects from the first surface 293 at a location positioned between the midpoint 278 and the second end 282, such that it is flanked by the serrations of the second serrated area 299. Thus, the elastic element 272, 273 is spaced from the first end 281, the second end 282, the first side edge 290, and the second side edge 291.In the illustrated embodiment, the first and second elastic members 272, 273 are generally rectangular leaf springs that are integrally formed with the terminal clamp 280, for example by a process comprising cutting out a partial outline of the elastic members 272, 273 in a punching step, followed by a deformation step in which a distal tip 272a, 273a of each of the elastic members 272, 273 is bent so that it projects from the first surface 293.
[0086] Each terminal 280 comprises a cover retaining section 283, a PCB connection section 284 and a body section 285, which is arranged between the cover retaining section 283 and the PCB connection section 284.
[0087] The cover retaining section 283 of the terminal block comprises the first end 281 of the terminal block and the first serrated area 298. The cover retaining section 283 is configured to be received and held in a corresponding terminal block opening 236, 237 of the first container section 222(1).
[0088] The PCB connection section 284 of the terminal block includes the second terminal end 282 of the terminal block 280, including the pair of connector plugs 289 which are received in a contact socket 19 of the PCB 18.
[0089] The body section 285 of the terminal block extends between the cover retaining section 283 and the PCB terminal section 284 and includes the second serrated area and a flange 292. The flange 292 projects from the first side edge 290 of the terminal block 280. The flange 292 is located between the first and second serrated areas 298, 299 and projects in a direction perpendicular to the second surface 294 of the terminal block 280. That is, the flange 292 projects from a side of the terminal block 280 facing the capacitor. In use, the flange 292 is parallel to the second end 6 of the capacitor.
[0090] The flange 292 provides an insulation displacement contact (IDC) 88 configured to receive a capacitor cable 8 and establish an electrical connection with it. In the illustrated embodiment, the IDC 88 is a narrow V-shaped cutout that is open at the top, e.g., towards the open side 227 of the container section. In use, the terminal 280 is electrically connected to a respective capacitor cable 8 at a connection point 86, which corresponds to the connection point between the capacitor cable 8 and the IDC 88. Since the capacitor cable 8 forms an electrical connection with the terminal 280 via the IDC 88, the capacitor 2 is electrically connected to the PCB 18 via the terminal 280.The flange 292, including the connection point 86, is arranged in the encapsulation chamber 250, thereby encapsulating the electrical connection between the capacitor cable 8 and the terminal block 280.
[0091] In use, the first container section 222(1) is installed with the second container section 222(2), as shown in Fig. Figure 17 shows that a terminal block 280 is press-fitted into each of the terminal block openings 236, 237 of the first container section 222(1), such that the first serrated areas 298 engage with an inner surface of the terminal block openings 236, 237 of the first container section 222(1). Furthermore, the terminal blocks 280 are press-fitted into the terminal block openings 236, 237 of the second container section 222(2), such that the first and second surfaces 293, 294 are parallel to the longitudinal axis 234 and such that the second serrated areas 299 engage with an inner surface of the terminal block openings 236, 237 of the second container section 222(2).
[0092] Furthermore, the distal tip 272a, 273a of each elastic link 272, 273 engages with a shoulder 236a, 237a, which is provided on an inner surface of each of the terminal openings 236, 237 ( Fig. 29). The shoulders 236a, 237a are parallel to the open side 227 and point away from the open side 227. Through this configuration, the first elastic link 272 and the second elastic link 273 work together to prevent the separation of the first container section 222(1) from the second container section 222(2) in a direction perpendicular to the open side 227.
[0093] With reference to Fig. 30 and Fig. The support terminals 300 are similar to the connection terminals 280. For this reason, corresponding elements are designated with corresponding reference numerals, and the description of the corresponding elements is not repeated. The support terminals 300 differ from the connection terminals 280 in that the support terminals 300 do not include a flange 292 or IDC 88. Instead, the first side edge 290 and the second side edge 291 of the support terminals 300 each include a rectangular projection 392 with a low cross-section. The projections 392 are located between the first and second serrated areas 298, 299 and project in a direction parallel to the second surface 294 of the support terminal 300. The projections 392 serve as a stop that prevents the support clamps 300 from being inserted too far into the respective support clamp openings 238, 239 of the second container section 222(2).
[0094] Furthermore, although the support terminal 300 is electrically conductive and the support terminal plugs 289 are inserted into the contact socket 19 of the PCB 18, the support terminal 300 is not electrically connected to the capacitor 2. Thus, the support terminal 300 provides a mechanical connection between the carrier 220 and the PCB 18 and does not provide an electrical connection between the capacitor 2 and the PCB 18.
[0095] In use, the first container section 222(1) is installed with the second container section 222(2), as shown in Fig. Figure 17 shows that a support clamp 300 is press-fitted into each of the support clamp openings 238, 239 of the first container section 222(1), such that the first serrated areas 298 engage with an inner surface of the support clamp openings 238, 239 of the first container section 222(1). Furthermore, the support clamps 300 are press-fitted into the support clamp openings 238, 239 of the second container section 222(2), such that the first and second surfaces 293, 294 are parallel to the longitudinal axis 234 and such that the second serrated areas 299 engage with an inner surface of the support clamp openings 238, 239 of the second container section 222(2).
[0096] Furthermore, the distal tip 272a, 273a of each elastic limb 272, 273 engages with a shoulder 236a, 237a, which is provided on an inner surface of each of the support clamp openings 238, 239 ( Fig.31).
[0097] The support arrangement 1 thus comprises two features that hold the first container section 222(1) in a configuration installed with the second container section 222(2): Firstly, the connection and support clamps 280, 300 each engage mechanically with both the first container section 222(1) and the second container section 222(2) via the first and second serrated areas 298, 299; and secondly, the connection and support clamps 280, 300 each engage mechanically with both the first container section 222(1) and the second container section 222(2) via the elastic links 272, 273.
[0098] In the illustrated embodiments, the capacitor support arrangement mechanically supports a capacitor 2 with respect to the PCB 18 and provides an electrical connection between the capacitor 2 and the PCB 18. It is understood that the capacitor support arrangement can also support the capacitor 2 with respect to other electronic components or devices and is not limited to use with a PCB.
[0099] Selected illustrative embodiments of the capacitor support arrangement are described in more detail above. It is understood that only structures deemed necessary for clarifying the capacitor support arrangement have been described here. It is assumed that those skilled in the art are familiar with and understand other conventional structures and those of subordinate and additional components of the capacitor support arrangement. Furthermore, although an embodiment of the capacitor support arrangement has been described above, the capacitor support arrangement is not limited to the embodiment described above; rather, various design modifications can be made without deviating from the capacitor support arrangement as presented in the claims.
