AI Technical Summary
In motor vehicle lighting systems with solid-state lighting (SSL) headlights, reading out all registers sequentially takes a long time, leading to conflicts with the update rate for each register, as cyclical sequential read-out decreases the frequency at which each register can be updated.
The method involves reading out registers of a first register type and subsets of registers of a second register type in alternating time intervals, prioritizing the first register type for more frequent reading to ensure reliable operation of the lighting system.
This approach allows for a significantly higher readout rate of critical registers in the first register type, ensuring reliable operation of the lighting system while accepting longer intervals for less critical registers in the second register type.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for operating a lighting system of a motor vehicle, wherein the lighting system has a plurality of registers which are to be read out over a plurality of time periods, wherein the plurality of registers have registers of a first register type and registers of a second register type. The invention further relates to an apparatus for data processing, comprising a processor configured to execute the method. The invention also relates to a computer program product comprising instructions which, when the program is executed by a processor, cause the processor to execute the method. The invention further relates to a motor vehicle which comprises the device for data processing.Reading the registers of a lighting system of a motor vehicle is fundamentally known, in particular in lighting systems which comprise solid state lighting (SSL) headlights. These SSL headlights comprise SSL chips which have a control unit. The control unit includes a memory in which a plurality of registers are configured. The registers must be read regularly in order to be able to operate the lighting system, such as by a control unit of the motor vehicle, since the registers contain operating information, which may include operating temperatures of the lighting system or fault notifications. Depending on how many registers the lighting system has, it may take a very long time to read out all registers sequentially. However, it is desirable to read and check all the registers provided in the SSL chip regularly. This results in conflicts with a read algorithm that is to read the registers because cyclical sequential read-out of all registers would likewise decrease the update rate for each register. Namely, the reading of each register takes a certain time each, and the more registers must be read, the more time is required until the same register can be read again if sequential is adopted. It is the object of the invention to provide a method for operating a lighting system of a motor vehicle, a device for data processing, a computer program product and / or a motor vehicle, in particular of the type mentioned at the beginning, which are improved compared to the prior art.The object of providing a method for operating a lighting system of a motor vehicle which is improved compared to the prior art is achieved by the method of independent claim 1.The above object is achieved by a method for operating a lighting system of a motor vehicle having the features of independent claim 1, by a device for data processing having the features of independent claim 13, by a computer program product having the features of independent claim 14, and by a motor vehicle having the features of independent claim 15.Further features and details of the invention are evident from the dependent claims, the description and the drawings. Features and details which are described in connection with the method according to the invention naturally also apply in connection with the device according to the invention for data processing, the computer program product according to the invention and the motor vehicle according to the invention and vice versa, so that with regard to the disclosure reference is or can always be made to the individual aspects of the invention in a mutually alternating manner.According to the invention, the method comprises the steps of reading out the registers of the first register type and a first subset of the registers of the second register type in a first time interval and reading out the registers of the first register type and a second subset of the registers of the second register type in a second time interval which follows the first time interval. The invention is based on the realization that some of the registers of the lighting system should be read more frequently than others. Thus, a cyclical sequential read-out for the frequently read-out registers is too slow, because the read-out rate in the sequential read-out of all registers is equally low for all registers, regardless of whether these must be read out more frequently or less frequently. The invention provides that in two time segments all registers of the first register type are read out and only some of the registers of the second register type are read out in each case. Since the registers of the second register type have to be read out less frequently or less urgent, the fact that the registers of the second register type are thus read out in each case at longer time intervals than hitherto is acceptable compared to the significant advantage of reading out all registers of the first register type both in the first and in the second time interval. The method according to the invention thus makes it possible to read out all registers of the first register type of the lighting system repeatedly within a sufficiently short time in order to be able to operate the lighting system reliably.Advantageous embodiments of the invention form part of the dependent claims and are described in the description. In embodiments, the method comprises the steps of reading the registers for the plurality of periods comprising the first period, the second period and subsequently further periods until all the registers of the second register type in a plurality of subsets comprising the first subset, the second subset and further subsets have been read, wherein in each period the registers of the first register type are read; and subsequently repeating the reading of the registers beginning again with the reading of the registers of the first register type and the reading of the first subset of the registers of the second register type. The number of time segments required for reading out all registers is thus preferably dependent on the number of registers of the second register type. As soon as these have been read out in each case in subsets, the read-out can be started again. The advantage of the method is that, regardless of the number of time periods required to read out all registers, in each of the time periods all registers of the first register type are read out. For this, an increased readout rate is thus achieved compared to the prior art. Some embodiments of the method provide that the reading out of the registers of the first register type takes place in at least one of the time periods before the reading out of the respective subset of the registers of the second register type. Thus, it is ensured that the contents of the registers of the first register type are present first in the time period. Thus, during reading, a further prioritization of the registers of the first register type compared to the registers of the second register type can be achieved. It is preferred that the reading of the registers of the first register type takes place in each of the time periods before the reading of the respective subset of the registers of the second register type. Then, the contents of the first register type registers are first present in each time period. However, other embodiments provide that the reading out of the registers of the first register type takes place in at least one of the time periods after the reading out of the respective subset of the registers of the second register type. This can compensate to a certain extent for the fact that in each of the time periods only a subset of the registers of the second register type are read out. In order to maximize this effect, it can be provided that the reading of the registers of the first register type takes place in each of the time segments after the reading of the respective subset of the registers of the second register type. Some embodiments provide that each subset of the second register type registers is different from all other subsets of the second register type registers. It is therefore preferred that in all subsets of the registers of the second register type each register of the second register type is read out only once. In other words, each register of the second register type is preferably a register to be read out in exactly one of the subsets. This enables the method to be terminated as quickly as possible without repeatedly reading out registers of the second register type once before reading out the registers of the second register type can begin again in the same order as before. In some embodiments, it is provided that the reading of the registers of the first register type is interrupted by pauses, so that the reading of the registers of the first register type takes place in first blocks interrupted by pauses in each time segment, and the reading of the subsets of the registers of the second register type is interrupted by pauses, so that the reading of the respective subsets of registers of the second register type takes place in second blocks interrupted by pauses in each time segment. The pauses can serve to make the individual first or second blocks recognizable as such. Furthermore, the pauses can serve to give a unit which has to process the contents of the read registers, such as a control unit of the motor vehicle, sufficient time for processing the contents. In particular, the pauses can have a duration of 200 to 300 microseconds, preferably approximately or exactly 250 microseconds. When reading out the registers of the first register type in the first blocks within the respective time section, in some embodiments of the method, in each case different numbers of registers are read out and when reading out the subset of registers of the second register type in the second blocks within the respective time section, in some embodiments of the method, in each case identical numbers of registers are read out. This makes it possible to group the registers of the first register type in an optimum manner, in particular, so that the most efficient possible processing of their contents is possible. For example, in some of the blocks, only registers relating to the same content may be read out in embodiments. This means in particular that only status registers can be read out in each case in one block of the first blocks and only error counters can be read out in each case in a further block of the first blocks. Preferably, a first block for the status registers comprises reading 8 registers to be read within about 250 microseconds at 1 Mbaud, and the first block for the error counters comprises reading 7 registers to be read also within about 250 microseconds at 1 Mbaud. In yet another block of the first blocks, which may follow the two above-mentioned first blocks, 16 further registers with 1 Mbaud may be read out within about 500 microseconds, such as temperature and voltage registers, among others. In contrast, in the second blocks in which a subset of the registers of the second register type is read out in each case, in particular 16 registers can be read out within 500 microseconds with 1 Mbaud in each case. In each of the time segments, it is preferably possible to read out two second blocks, to which the subset of the registers of the second register type is divided for the respective time segment. This means that in particular 32 of the registers of the second register type can be read out in a rotating manner per time segment, wherein these 32 registers represent a subset of the plurality of registers of the second register type. In some embodiments, however, the reading out can also be effected with 2 mbaud. However, some embodiments provide that in each of the first blocks of a time section, respectively equal numbers of registers of the first register type are read out. Preferably, 16 registers in each first block may then be read. Thus, a uniform data rate of data to be processed can be ensured. It is preferred that in each of the time periods, first all first blocks of registers of the first register type are read out before the second blocks of registers of the second register type are read out. This represents a further prioritization of the registers of the first register type. However, some embodiments provide that the first blocks and the second blocks are read out in an interleaved manner.Embodiments of the method include the registers of the first register type including information that is of greater importance to the operation of the lighting system compared to the registers of the second register type. Of greater significance can mean, in particular, that, on the basis of the registers read out, a processing operation for driving lighting of the lighting installation, such as the SSL chips, is carried out as a function of data of the registers, wherein the data of the registers of the first register type have a higher processing rate in the processing operation than the data of the registers of the second register type. In other words, the registers of the first register type are more important for operating the lighting installation than the registers of the second register type or even critical for this. Thus, the method allows to read out all registers having a higher processing rate more frequently than those having a lower processing rate, namely in each of the periods. Some embodiments provide that the registers of the first register type include information regarding at least one of status, error counter, temperature, and voltage of the lighting fixture, and the registers of the second register type include information regarding at least one pixel error of the lighting fixture. The information is the respective contents of the registers. For the operation of the lighting system, it is especially critical to know which status, which number of faults, which temperature and which voltage they have at all times in order to be able to ensure reliable operation. On the other hand, it is desirable to have a current number of pixel errors, but it is usually not critical for the operation of the lighting system. Thus, the method allows all critical information such as status, error counter, temperature and voltage to be read out again in each of the time periods, but not to distribute non-critical information over several time periods. It can thus be ensured that this critical information is read out particularly often, i.e. has an increased read-out rate.In some embodiments of the method, in each time segment after the reading of the registers of the first register type and the reading of the respective subset of the registers of the second register type, a reading of registers of a DC-DC converter of the lighting installation takes place. Some lighting systems include a DC-DC converter or a DC-DC converter. Its registers can also be read out or written in the method. For example, the DC-DC converter may be turned on or off by writing its registers. Further, by writing its registers, a voltage set point may be established. In embodiments, the reading or writing of the registers of the DC-DC converter takes place in each of the time segments after reading out the registers of the first register type and after reading out the subset of the registers of the second register type. The reading or writing of the registers of the DC-DC converter may be followed by a pause, preferably from 200 to 300 microseconds, such as or exactly 250 microseconds. The DC-DC converter may in particular comprise 8 registers, all of which may be read out or written in each of the time periods. The reading out or writing of the registers of the DC-DC converter can take place in one or more third blocks. The third block or blocks may follow the second blocks. Usually, all the registers of the DC-DC converter are read out or written in a single third block.Embodiments of the method provide that the reading out has a pause at the end of each time interval before the next time interval begins. The pause at the end of the time interval may be the pause following the reading of the registers of the DC-DC converter. Instead, the pause at the end of each time interval can also be the pause following one of the second blocks, namely in particular if no DC-DC converter is present. In some embodiments of the method, the registers of the first register type and the registers of the second register type are associated with a solid state lighting headlamp of the lighting system. These solid-state lighting headlights usually comprise SSL chips, the registers of which can be read out particularly efficiently in the described manner. The solid-state lighting headlamp may be embodied in an LSM (Light switch module). However, the method can also be used in general for other types of headlights or lamps, provided that registers with different importance for operation are to be read efficiently. Some embodiments of the method provide that each time interval is in each case between two video frames of the solid-state lighting headlight. This type of time interval is also called an interframe time interval. Here, each time interval can have in particular a duration of 16.6 milliseconds, provided that it is a solid-state lighting headlight with a repetition frequency of 60 Hz. However, at other repetition frequencies, the duration may be longer or shorter than 16.6 milliseconds. The interframe time interval is usually long enough to perform the method and already use the read contents for preparing the following video frame, such as adjusting a voltage of the solid state lighting headlamp by reading the associated voltage register of the SSL chip, which may be a first register type register, and then writing to a register of the DC-DC converter based on the reading of the voltage register to change the voltage provided to the SSL chip. It is usually provided that exactly one time segment is provided between each two video frames, in which the reading out or also writing of the DC-DC converter is carried out. Each time interval is thus preferably limited by a preceding video frame before the time interval and a subsequent video frame after the time interval.Further, the object is to provide a data processing apparatus improved over the prior art, achieved by the apparatus according to claim 13, as described below.According to the invention, the data processing device comprises a processor configured to perform the method described above. As a result, it is configured to achieve the advantages of the method. The device for data processing can be embodied as a microcontroller, such as in particular a control unit of the motor vehicle. The device for data processing can be configured to operate the lighting system of the motor vehicle. The device for data processing can also be integrated in the control unit. In particular, it can be configured to read out the registers of the first register type and the first subset of the registers of the second register type in the first time segment. It can be configured to read out the registers of the first register type and the second subset of the registers of the second register type in a second time interval following the first time interval. The data processing device may include a memory. The memory may store a program having instructions to the data processing device so that the data processing device may execute the method. The device for data processing is preferably configured to carry out the method steps described above and the developments thereof in any combination with one another, provided that the method steps and developments do not conflict with one another in this case.Further, the object is to provide a computer program product improved over the prior art, achieved by the computer program product according to claim 14, comprising instructions which, when the program is executed by a processor, cause the latter to execute the method described above, as described below. The computer program product may be an electronic or optical data storage device, such as a memory chip, a magnetic memory or an optical memory. The motor vehicle may have the computer program product. Instructions stored on the computer program product can cause the processor to operate the lighting system of the motor vehicle in such a way that the advantages explained in connection with the method are achieved. The computer program product can be part of the apparatus for data processing. The computer program product can be, in particular, part of the microcontroller. The computer program product may include firmware for the microcontroller. The computer program product may alternatively include software for the microcontroller.Furthermore, the object of the invention is to provide a motor vehicle, in particular of the type mentioned at the beginning, which is improved compared to the prior art, by the motor vehicle according to claim 15, as described below.According to the invention, the motor vehicle has the above device for data processing. As a result, it is configured to carry out the method described above and to achieve the advantages thereof for the motor vehicle.A preferred motor vehicle is a tyred motor vehicle. It may be a motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine or an electric motor. In principle, the invention may be relevant in particular for all motor vehicles in which a multiplicity of registers is to be read out from a lighting system and which may benefit from a prioritization of certain registers from the multiplicity of registers during the read-out, as is made possible by the method. The reading out can take place via an on-board power supply system of the motor vehicle, such as in particular an Ethernet on-board power supply system. The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings. The following shows: FIG. 1 shows a method according to the invention in a first embodiment; FIG. 2 shows the method according to the invention in a second embodiment; FIG. 3 schematically shows a readout operation for a time segment; and FIG. 4 shows a motor vehicle according to the invention in a schematic plan view.FIG. 1 shows a method according to the invention in a first embodiment. The method is used for operating a lighting system 1 of a motor vehicle 2, the lighting system 1 having a plurality of registers R 1, R 2 to be read out over a plurality of time segments, the plurality of registers R 1 having registers of a first register type and registers R 2 of a second register type. As a first step S 11, the method comprises reading out the registers R 1 of the first register type and a first subset of the registers R 2 of the second register type in a first time interval. As a second step S 12, the method comprises reading out the registers R 1 of the first register type and a second subset of the registers R 2 of the second register type in a second time interval following the first time interval. The method has the advantage that all the registers R1 of the first register type can be read out in each of the time segments. Thus, the registers R1 of the first register type can be read more often than the registers R2 of the second register type, of which only a subset is read in each of the periods. Thus, the read-out rate of the first register type registers R1 is increased over the read-out rate of the second register type registers R2, as compared with known methods in which all the registers R1, R2 are simply read out sequentially, regardless of whether they are first register type registers R1 or second register type registers R2.FIG. 2 shows the method according to the invention in a second embodiment. Like the embodiment of FIG. 1, it comprises reading S 21 the registers R 1 of the first register type and a first subset of the registers R 2 of the second register type in a first time interval and subsequently reading S 22 the registers R 1 of the first register type and a second subset of the registers R 2 of the second register type in a second time interval which follows the first time interval.More specifically, the method of FIG. 2 comprises reading the registers R 1, R 2 for the plurality of time periods comprising the first time period, the second time period and subsequently further time periods until all the registers R 2 of the second register type in a plurality of subsets comprising the first subset, the second subset and further subsets have been read, wherein in each time period the registers R 1 of the first register type are read, and subsequently a step of repeating the reading of the registers R 1, R 2 beginning again with the reading of the registers R 1 of the first register type and the reading of the first subset of the registers R 2 of the second register type. This is implemented here by way of example by a step S 23, which provides for reading out the registers R 1 of the first register type and a third subset of the registers R 2 of the second register type in a third time interval following the second time interval. After the reading out of the third subset, the reading out of all subsets of the registers R 2 of the second register type is effected once here by way of example. That is, in steps S21 to S23, all the registers R2 of the second register type have been read out. In other words, the subsets of steps S21 to S23 together form the total set of the registers R2 of the second register type. The process then returns to S21 to repeat the reading of the registers R1, R2. The method can, for example, proceed until the motor vehicle 2 is switched off and begin again at step S 21 with the next switching on of the motor vehicle 2. Steps S 21 to S 23 also each comprise reading registers R 3 of a DC-DC converter 3 of the lighting installation 1 in each of the periods. In each of the periods, for example, all the registers R 3 of the DC-DC converter 3 are read out, as illustrated in FIG. 3.FIG. 3 schematically shows a readout operation for a time segment. In principle, this can be the first time segment, the second time segment or else the third time segment, which have been mentioned with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2. The time is progressively plotted on the X axis, while the Y axis identifies an arbitrary data rate for purposes of illustration to show when data is being transmitted and when not.It is shown in FIG. 3 that the reading out of the registers R 1 of the first register type takes place in the time interval before the reading out of the respective subset of the registers R 2 of the second register type. Furthermore, it is shown that the reading of the registers R 1 of the first register type is interrupted by pauses P 1, so that the reading of the registers R 1 of the first register type takes place in each time segment in first blocks B 1 interrupted by pauses P 1, and the reading of the subsets of the registers R 2 of the second register type is interrupted by pauses P 2, so that the reading of the respective subsets of registers R 2 of the second register type takes place in each time segment in second blocks B 2 interrupted by pauses P 2. The respective pauses P1, P2 after the first and second blocks are each 250 microseconds in length. When reading out the registers R 1 of the first register type in the first blocks B 1, different numbers of registers R 1 are read out in each case within the respective time interval in FIG. 3 and equal numbers of registers R 2 are read out in each case when reading out the subset of registers R 2 of the second register type in the second blocks B 2 within the respective time interval. Proceeding from left to right in time, the three first blocks B1 each comprise reading 8 registers in about 250 microseconds, 7 registers in about 250 microseconds and 16 registers in about 500 microseconds, respectively, each of the three first blocks B1 being followed by the pause P1 of 250 microseconds. The pause P1 after the third first block B1 is followed by the two second blocks B2 in which 16 registers are read out in 500 microseconds in each case. The two second blocks B2 are likewise interrupted by a pause P2 of 250 microseconds. After the reading of the registers R 1 of the first register type and the reading of the respective subset of the registers R 2 of the second register type, according to FIG. 3, a reading of registers R 3 of the DC-DC converter 3 of the lighting installation 1 takes place. The reading of the registers R3 of the DC-DC converter 3 is likewise preceded by a pause P2 of 250 microseconds. The reading of the registers R 2 of the DC-DC converter 3 takes place in a third block B 3 which comprises the reading of all eight registers R 3 of the DC-DC converter 3. The reading has a pause P3 at the end of the time interval before the next time interval begins, which is no longer illustrated here, but can be constructed in the same way as the time interval shown in FIG. 3. The pause at the end of the time interval is 250 microseconds long and follows the reading of the registers R3 of the DC-DC converter 3. The difference between the time segments consists in each case at least substantially only in that a different subset of the registers R 2 of the second register type is read out in the second block B 2 or the second blocks B 2.FIG. 4 shows a motor vehicle 2 according to the invention in a schematic plan view. The motor vehicle 2 comprises a control unit 4, which is operatively connected to a lighting system via an on-board power supply 5. The control unit 4 is configured to carry out the method according to the invention, in particular as illustrated in the embodiments in Figures 1 and 2. The control unit 4 is an example of a data processing apparatus including a processor (not shown) configured to execute the method. The control unit 4 comprises a computer program product (not shown) in the form of an EPROM chip. The computer program product comprises instructions which, when the program is executed by the processor, cause the processor to carry out the method. The registers R 1 of the first register type and the registers R 2 of the second register type are assigned to a first solid-state lighting headlight 6 of the lighting system. Exactly one time interval is in each case between two video frames of the first solid-state illumination headlight 6. The first register type registers R 1 include information related to at least one of status, error counter, temperature, and voltage of the lighting equipment, and the second register type registers R 2 include information related to at least pixel errors of the lighting equipment 1. More specifically, the first register type registers R 1 include information related to status, error counter, temperature, and voltage of the first solid illumination headlamp 6, and the second register type registers R 2 include information related to pixel errors of the first solid illumination headlamp 6. The registers R 1 of the first register type thus contain information which is of greater importance than the registers R 2 of the second register type for the operation of the lighting installation 1, that is to say have a higher importance or criticality. A second solid-state illumination headlight 7 of the motor vehicle 2 can be read out by the control unit 4 in the same or similar manner according to the proposed method. The control unit 4 is here, by way of example, a microcontroller. The first solid-state illumination headlamp 6 and the second solid-state illumination headlamp 7 include SSL chips 8 a, bwhich include a control unit (not shown). The control unit includes a memory in which the plurality of first register type registers R 1 and second register type registers R 2 are configured. The vehicle further comprises four tires 9 a- d.In embodiments, the presented method enables a fast diagnosis of the registers R 1 of the first register type and a diagnosis of the registers R 2 of the second register type that is slower than this in the case of lighting systems 1 of motor vehicles 2. Preferably, in each time segment which is an interframe time segment, all the registers R1 of the first register type are read out in each case and only a different subset of the registers R2 of the second register type are read out in each case, as long as all the subsets of the registers R2 of the second register type have been read out once in a sufficiently large number of time segments. Then, the reading preferably begins again. Thus, in embodiments, the method allows a significantly higher readout rate to be achieved for the registers R 1 of the first register type than in the known sequential readout of all registers R 1, R 2.List of reference characters1 Lighting system 2 Motor vehicle 3 DC-DC converter 4 Control unit 5 On-board power supply 6 First solid-state lighting headlight 7 Second solid-state lighting headlight 8 a, b SSL chip 9 a- d Reifen R 1 Register of the first register type R 2 Register of the second register type R 3 Register of the DC-DC converter B 1 First block B 2 Second block B 3 Third block P 1- 3 Pause S 11, S 12 Method steps S 21, S 22, S 23 Method steps
