Abstract

A device for machining a workpiece with a tool is shown and described. The device comprises a base and a tool head movably mounted on the base in a first direction. The tool head includes at least a first gear rotatable about a first axis of rotation and a second gear rotatable about a second axis of rotation, the second axis of rotation extending along a straight line along which the first axis is also oriented. The first gear and the second gear are operatively connected to transmit a rotation from the first gear to the second gear, and the second axis of rotation is offset from the first axis of rotation in a second direction, the second direction being perpendicular to both the first and second axes of rotation.The tool head further comprises a tool holder rotatable about the second axis of rotation and connected to the second gear, configured to receive the tool so that the tool, together with the tool holder, can be rotated about the second axis of rotation. The device further comprises a first drive operatively coupled to the first gear and configured to drive the first gear, and a second drive operatively coupled to the tool head and configured to move the tool head relative to the base in the first direction.
