Abstract

The invention relates to a battery (1) for a motor vehicle comprising: - a cell pack (2) comprising a series connection of at least two cell strings (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d), wherein each cell string (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) comprises a parallel connection of at least two battery cells (4), - an overcurrent protection device (6) comprising a fuse (7a, 7b, 7c) per battery cell (4) for disconnecting a defective battery cell from the respective cell string (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) and comprising a disconnecting device (9) for interrupting an internal battery short-circuit current (IF) flowing through the series connection, wherein the disconnecting device (9) is formed by the fuses (7a, 7b) of at least one predetermined cell string (3a), the characteristics of which are configured to provide a tripping cascade of the fuses (7a, 7b) within the predetermined cell string (3a) of Key parameters of the fuses (7c) of at least one further cell string (3b, 3c, 3d) differ.
