Description

[0001] The present invention relates to an adhesive tape for masking a surface to be protected during painting work, comprising a first strip-shaped carrier element and a second strip-shaped carrier element, wherein the first strip-shaped carrier element has a longitudinal edge associated with the surface to be treated during use and a longitudinal edge facing away from the surface to be treated during use, a first underside and a first upper side opposite the first underside, wherein a first underside adhesive layer is applied to the first underside, wherein the second strip-shaped carrier element has a longitudinal edge associated with the surface to be treated during use and a longitudinal edge facing away from the surface to be treated during use, a second underside and a second upper side opposite the second underside, wherein a second underside adhesive layer is applied to the second underside, wherein the second strip-shaped carrier element is arranged with its second underside on the first upper side of the first strip-shaped carrier element.,

[0002] Adhesive tapes with two carrier elements arranged on top of each other are particularly used for painting work, where acrylic sealants, plaster, or other coating materials are applied in a first step and then painted. Adhesive tapes used for acrylic sealants and plaster must be removed promptly after the application of the paint job. Otherwise, there is a risk that the acrylic material or the applied plaster will at least partially detach from the surface to be treated when the adhesive tape is removed. However, the acrylic material and the applied plaster must dry sufficiently before painting, so it is not possible to use the adhesive tape used for the acrylic or plaster work for the painting work. The same applies to other coating materials that are painted over after application.

[0003] To avoid time-consuming double bonding, adhesive tapes with two superimposed backing elements are used in practice. After the acrylic sealant or plaster has been applied, the upper backing element can be removed. The lower backing element remains on the surface to be taped. Once the acrylic sealant or plaster has dried sufficiently, painting can begin without the need to apply new tape. Once the painting work is complete, the lower backing element of the adhesive tape can be removed.

[0004] With the adhesive tapes known from the prior art with two carrier elements, the acrylic sealant, plaster, or similar coating materials are only applied to the surface. The side edge of the acrylic sealant, plaster, or similar coating materials cannot be painted or can only be painted partially, as it is concealed by the lower carrier element during the painting process. This leads to a suboptimal visual result.

[0005] Against this background, the present invention is based on the object of providing an adhesive tape that provides an improved optical result in painting work with acrylic sealants and plaster edges.

[0006] The above-mentioned object is achieved according to the invention by an adhesive tape for masking a surface to be protected during painting work, comprising a first strip-shaped carrier element and a second strip-shaped carrier element, wherein the first strip-shaped carrier element has a longitudinal edge associated with the surface to be treated during use and a longitudinal edge facing away from the surface to be treated during use, a first underside and a first upper side opposite the first underside, wherein a first underside adhesive layer is applied to the first underside, wherein the second strip-shaped carrier element has a longitudinal edge associated with the surface to be treated during use and a longitudinal edge facing away from the surface to be treated during use, a second underside and a second upper side opposite the second underside, wherein a second underside adhesive layer is applied to the second underside, wherein the second strip-shaped carrier element is arranged with its second underside on the first upper side of the first strip-shaped carrier element. According to the invention, the second carrier element is arranged with a projection on the first carrier element at the longitudinal edge associated with the surface to be treated during use.

[0007] Due to the overhang of the second carrier element, a gap is created between the edge formed by the acrylic or plaster and the first carrier element when the second carrier element is removed after the acrylic sealant or plastering has been completed. This makes the acrylic or plaster edge accessible for painting not only from above but also completely from the side, allowing the edge to be completely covered with paint. This is particularly advantageous because some acrylic sealants yellow over time. Using an adhesive tape according to the invention can ensure that the acrylic sealant or plaster is no longer visible after painting, thus achieving an optimized visual result in the long term.

[0008] Various embodiments of the adhesive tape are described below, with each individual embodiment applying independently to the adhesive tape. Furthermore, the individual embodiments can be combined with one another as desired.

[0009] In a preferred embodiment of the adhesive tape, the first carrier element is made of a paper material. The use of non-creped paper, in particular a washi tape, has proven particularly advantageous. Such materials are particularly suitable for long-lasting, gentle bonding, allowing residue-free removal of the adhesive tape even after extended periods. Alternatively, the use of a film, such as a PE film, crepe paper, or a fabric as the carrier material for the first carrier element is also conceivable.

[0010] In a preferred embodiment of the adhesive tape, the second carrier element is made of a fabric tape. Fabric tape is particularly robust and protects the substrate from mechanical stress. When applying plaster or acrylic, sharp-edged and hard tools such as spatulas are often used, which can quickly damage the substrate. By using a robust material for the second carrier element, the risk of damage to the substrate caused by tools can be minimized. As an alternative to using a fabric tape, the use of a film made of PE, PVC, or similar for the second carrier element is also conceivable.

[0011] In practice, it has proven particularly advantageous if the overhang has a width of at least 0.5 mm, preferably of at least 1.0 mm, more preferably of at least 1.5 mm and especially preferably of at least 2.0 mm and at the same time of a maximum of 4.0 mm, preferably of a maximum of 3.5 mm, more preferably of a maximum of 3.0 mm and especially preferably of a maximum of 2.5 mm. A overhang with a width of 2.0 mm has proven particularly advantageous in practice. With a correspondingly wide overhang, it is ensured that the edge formed by the acrylic sealant or the plaster can be completely painted without the painted edge deviating significantly from the edge formed by the acrylic sealant or the plaster.

[0012] In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the first underside adhesive layer and the second underside adhesive layer have the same or at least a similar composition. Typically, the first underside adhesive layer is designed such that the first carrier element, with its first underside adhesive layer, can easily detach itself when the adhesive tape is unrolled. Using the same or at least similar composition for the second underside adhesive layer ensures that the second carrier element can be easily removed from the first carrier element after the acrylic or plastering work has been completed.

[0013] Particularly preferably, the first underside adhesive layer and the second underside adhesive layer are formed from an acrylate. Acrylates have proven particularly suitable in practice for ensuring good adhesion of the carrier materials to the substrate or to the first carrier element, while also enabling residue-free removal. Alternatively, the use of modified rubber adhesives for the underside adhesive layers is conceivable.

[0014] In an advantageous embodiment of the adhesive tape, a release agent is applied to the first upper side. Appropriate release agents ensure that the second carrier element can be easily removed from the first carrier element.

[0015] Preferably, no film is arranged on the first underside adhesive layer, so that the first carrier element can be completely glued to a substrate.

[0016] In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, a release film is provided on the longitudinal edge of the second carrier element facing away from the surface to be treated during use to facilitate the removal of the second carrier element from the first carrier element. This film ensures that there is no need for the tedious task of peeling the second carrier element off the first carrier element. This is particularly helpful if the user wears gloves during masking work.

[0017] To facilitate removal of the second carrier element from the first carrier element, the release film preferably sits flush with the longitudinal edge of the first carrier element facing away from the surface to be treated during use. This ensures that the upper side of the first carrier element is completely covered and protected during the application of acrylic or plaster. This provides optimal protection of the substrate against mechanical stress. Furthermore, it reduces the risk of damage to the first carrier element, which could lead to inaccuracies when applying paint after the acrylic or plastering work has been completed.

[0018] Advantageously, the first carrier element and / or the second carrier element are designed to be tearable by hand. Adhesive tapes that can be torn off by hand are characterized by particularly good handling.

[0019] In practice, it has proven expedient for the first support element to have a width of at least 20 mm and a maximum of 50 mm, preferably of at least 24 mm and a maximum of 36 mm, particularly preferably of 30 mm. It has also proven expedient for the second support element to have a width of at least 10 mm and a maximum of 48 mm, preferably of at least 16 mm and a maximum of 34 mm, particularly preferably of 20 mm.

[0020] Further features and advantages of the adhesive tape will become apparent from the following description of an embodiment, with reference to the attached drawing.

[0021] The drawing shows, schematically, Fig. 1A an adhesive tape according to the invention in a first perspective view, Fig. 1B the adhesive tape Fig. 1A in a second perspective view, Fig. 1C the adhesive tape Fig. 1A in a third perspective view, Fig. 2A the adhesive tape Fig. 1A in use during the removal of a second carrier element from a first carrier element and Fig. 2B the tape from Fig. 1A in use after removing a second carrier element.

[0022] The Fig. 1A, Fig. 1B and Fig. 1C show a preferred embodiment of an adhesive tape according to the invention for masking a surface to be protected during painting work in various perspective views.

[0023] The adhesive tape comprises a first strip-shaped carrier element 2 and a second strip-shaped carrier element 4.

[0024] The first strip-shaped carrier element 2 has a longitudinal edge 6 associated with the surface to be treated during use, a longitudinal edge 8 facing away from the surface to be treated during use, a first underside 10, and a first upper side 12 opposite the first underside 10. A first underside adhesive layer is applied to the first underside 10.

[0025] The second strip-shaped carrier element 4 has a longitudinal edge 14 which, during use, is assigned to the surface to be treated, and a longitudinal edge 16 which, during use, faces away from the surface to be treated, a second underside 18 and a second upper side 20 opposite the second underside 18, wherein a second underside adhesive layer is applied to the second underside 18. The second strip-shaped carrier element 4 is arranged with its second underside 18 on the first upper side 12 of the first strip-shaped carrier element 2, wherein the second carrier element 4 is arranged on the longitudinal edge 14 which, during use, is assigned to the surface to be treated, with a projection X on the first carrier element 2. The projection X has a width of 0.5 mm to 4 mm, preferably of 1 mm to 3.5 mm, more preferably of 1.5 mm to 3 mm, particularly preferably of 2 mm to 2.5 mm.

[0026] The first carrier element 2 is made of a washi tape, and the second carrier element 4 is made of a fabric tape. The washi tape can be removed from the surface to be treated without leaving residue, even after extended periods of time, while the fabric tape provides protection against mechanical stress.

[0027] Both the first underside adhesive layer and the second underside adhesive layer are formed by an acrylate, so that the second carrier element 4 with the second underside adhesive layer can be easily removed from a release agent applied to the first top side of the first carrier element 2.

[0028] A release film 22 is provided on the longitudinal edge 16 of the second support element 4, which faces away from the surface to be treated during use, to facilitate removal of the second support element 4 from the first support element 2. The release film 22 is flush with the longitudinal edge 8 of the first support element 2, which faces away from the surface to be treated during use. This ensures that the first support element 2 is well protected during acrylic and plastering work.

[0029] The first carrier element 2 has a width of 20 mm to 50 mm, preferably 24 mm to 36 mm, particularly preferably 30 mm. The second carrier element 4 has a width of 10 mm to 48 mm, preferably 16 mm to 34 mm, particularly preferably 20 mm.

[0030] Fig. 2A and Fig. 2B show the adhesive tape according to the invention from the Fig. 1A to 1C in application with an acrylic seal on a baseboard 24 followed by painting of a wall 28. The baseboard 24 is taped with the adhesive tape according to the invention so that a clean acrylic joint 26 can be formed on the longitudinal edge of the baseboard 24 towards the wall 28.

[0031] When the acrylic sealant is applied, the longitudinal edge of the adhesive tape associated with the surface to be treated (here, the wall 28) is formed by the longitudinal edge 14 of the second carrier element 4. The second carrier element 4, formed by a fabric tape with the release film 22, protects the first carrier element 2 on the surface from mechanical stress during the application of the acrylic.

[0032] Fig. 2A shows the process of peeling off the second carrier element 4 from the first carrier element 2. It can be seen that the release film 22 does not adhere to the first carrier element 2, so that peeling off the second carrier element 4 is easily possible by lifting the release film 22.

[0033] Fig.2B shows the adhesive tape after the second carrier element 4 has been removed from the first carrier element 2. The longitudinal edge of the adhesive tape assigned to the surface to be treated is now formed by the longitudinal edge 6 of the first carrier element 2. Since the second carrier element 4 was arranged with an overhang on the first carrier element 2 at the longitudinal edge of the adhesive tape assigned to the surface to be treated, a gap remains between the acrylic joint 26 and the first carrier element 2 after the second carrier element 4 has been removed. This ensures that the acrylic joint 26 can be completely covered with paint, including from the side, during the subsequent painting work.
