AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing transmissions in vehicles shift gears at a fixed speed, leading to power losses due to friction and lack of adaptability to torque and load variations, particularly in electric vehicles which typically lack shift transmissions.

Method used

A transmission system that shifts gears based on torque and load, operating in a favorable power range by switching to faster gears during strong acceleration, with a compact design and mechanical autonomy without actuators or sensors.

Benefits of technology

Reduces power losses by optimizing gear shifts based on torque and load, ensuring efficient operation in electric vehicles with a compact, mechanically autonomous design.

Description

Transmissions and clutches are known which shift under centrifugal control or switch between gears. However, this shifting process always takes place at the same speed. In addition, losses of power arise due to friction. The present invention switches depending on the torque and hence the load, therefore the driving motor can be operated in the more favorable power range. For example, the transmission only switches to the faster gear at a higher speed when there is a strong acceleration. This is important in electric vehicles since they usually have no shift transmission. The transmission functions autonomously and purely mechanically, i.e. without actuator, sensor or external actuation.Since all elements are arranged on a shaft, the invention also has a compact design. The machine elements are protected by friction clutches.
