Description

[0001] This invention relates to a method for bonding (generally connecting) a display device, in particular for bonding a cover or a frame to a display or display substrate or vice versa, and further relates to a display device assembled by the method with a display (also called display assembly) with in particular a cover glass or plastic.

[0002] In the prior art, solutions are typically limited to bonding substrates with an equal distance between the frame and the other components. Examples of such applications are known in consumer electronics, such as smartphones and tablets, central displays, and industrial displays. Document WO 2014 / 061478 A1 discloses a transparent surface material equipped with an adhesive layer, which is suitable for protecting a display panel and a display comprising this surface material.

[0003] Document JP 2009-93158 A describes a display comprising a cover with a decorative layer and a leveling layer. This leveling layer eliminates level differences caused by the thickness of the decorative layer.

[0004] US2011 / 0304812 A1 discloses a display comprising a display substrate, a flat cover, and a transparent fill layer. A dam disposed between the display substrate and the flat cover is used to control the liquid transparent fill layer during the manufacturing process.

[0005] The document US 2015 / 0341272 A1 discloses an electro-optical display assembly comprising an electro-optical display, a frame and a transparent cover, wherein a surface of the transparent cover is curved.

[0006] Document DE 10 2011005 379 A1 discloses a method for manufacturing an optoelectric device and document US 2011 / 0187960 A1 discloses a display device comprising: a display panel and a panel-like member bonded to the display panel with an adhesive made of an ultraviolet-curable resin.

[0007] From EP 3 218 766 B1, an improved solution is further known, namely a display comprising a rectangular, substantially flat display substrate and a cover with a curved surface, wherein the curved surface is bonded to the flat display substrate by a bonding material, and a rectangular dam containing bonding material arranged between the display substrate and the cover, wherein the display substrate, viewed in a projection onto a plane running parallel to the flat display substrate, is spaced apart from the rectangular dam on all sides along its circumference.

[0008] A disadvantage is that applying a bonding material to the curved surface of the cover to adhere the cover to the flat display substrate to form the display, and correctly placing the display substrate on the uncured bonding material, is problematic and can lead to errors if imprecisely aligned. Furthermore, it is disadvantageous if the dam is used to keep the bonding material evenly distributed between the display substrate and the cover.

[0009] Further printed prior art in the present technical field is contained in the documents JP 2013 238 726 A, DE 10 2011 005 379 A1 and US 2021 / 088 831 A1.

[0010] Against this background, the present invention is based on the technical problem of providing an improved conceptual solution and an improved bonding which does not have the aforementioned disadvantages.

[0011] According to the invention, a display arrangement comprising a rectangular, substantially flat display substrate and a cover with a connecting region to which the display substrate is bonded by a bonding material is proposed, wherein the cover has or forms a rectangular dam which contains the bonding material, wherein the display substrate, viewed in a projection onto a plane running parallel to the flat display substrate, bears directly along its circumference against the rectangular dam with two of its side edges on the dam or the frame edge of the cover formed by the dam. According to the invention, it is further provided that the display substrate bears completely against the dam with two side edges, in each case along the entire side edge.

[0012] It is also in accordance with the invention if the two side edges which abut the dam are not two opposite side edges but are connected to each other via a corner of the display substrate.

[0013] In a likewise advantageous embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the frame edge in the region of the dam has a sawtooth contour on at least one side facing the display substrate and the display substrate rests against the inwardly projecting sawteeth.

[0014] A further preferred embodiment of the invention provides that the frame edge has a sawtooth contour on two adjacent sides and the display substrate lies directly against the inwardly projecting sawtooths with both side edges.

[0015] In a further preferred embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the dam is formed integrally with the cover.

[0016] According to the invention, a spacer is arranged between at least one of the side edges of the display substrate that does not directly adjoin the dam and the dam located adjacent there. It is preferred if the spacer has at least one spring element that presses the display substrate against the dam with the respective opposite side edge that adjoins the dam. The spring element can, for example, be a bent spring plate that exerts a spring force on the side edge of the display substrate. It is particularly advantageous if one or more spacers are provided between each two side edges of the display substrate that are connected to one another (via the corner) and the dam located adjacent there. This creates a resultant force that presses the display substrate into the diagonally opposite corner of the frame.

[0017] A further aspect of the present invention relates, in addition to the display arrangement as such, to a method for producing a display arrangement as described above, comprising the following steps: a. Providing a substantially rectangular and flat display substrate and a cover with a connecting region to which the display substrate is to be glued by means of a bonding material or a connecting material, wherein the cover forms a rectangular dam b. Mounting the display substrate on the cover in such a way that, viewed in a projection onto a plane running parallel to the display substrate, the display substrate bears along its circumference against the rectangular dam with at least one or two of its side edges directly against the dam or the frame edge of the cover formed by the dam and c. Filling at least one bonding material into the dam and preferably into the regions provided for bonding in order to adhesively connect the display substrate to the cover.

[0018] In a further preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, it is provided that in said step b) at least one spacer equipped with a spring element is introduced between a side edge of the display substrate and the cover, preferably the dam, so that the display substrate is pressed with its correspondingly opposite side edge against the dam.

[0019] Other advantageous developments of the invention are characterized in the subclaims or are presented in more detail below together with the description of the preferred embodiment of the invention with reference to the figures.

[0020] They show: Fig. 1 is a view of a display arrangement known from the prior art and Fig. 2 is a view of a display arrangement according to the invention.

[0021] In the following, the invention will be described by means of an exemplary embodiment with reference to the Figure 1 and2 described in more detail, wherein the same reference numerals in the figures indicate the same functional and / or structural features.

[0022] The Figure 1 shows a schematic representation of a prior art solution, namely a cross-sectional side view of a display assembly 1 with an LCD module (or display substrate) 4 on a cover 6 with a non-planar or uneven surface using a connecting material 8. Below, the Fig. 1 also a view of the top side of the display assembly 1. The known concept consists in having at least one dam 12, which holds the connecting material 8 for bonding the display substrate 4 to a cover 6, which is typically made of glass or plastic, in order to bridge different thicknesses due to uneven distances between the display substrate 4 and the cover 6. In the example of Fig. 1The bonding material is a liquid adhesive made of a two-component silicone, which has a rapid curing ability at room temperature and can typically cure within a few minutes. In the prior art, this dam 12 is a solid rectangular-shaped structure arranged on the cover 6 and having an uneven surface, in this case curved. The adhesive material 8 therefore has different adhesive thicknesses on the cover 6. The dam 12 thereby holds the bonding material 8 between the substrate 4 and the cover 6. With reference to the top view in Figure 1It can also be seen that the display substrate 4 is spaced from the rectangular dam on all sides along its circumference and therefore also has a distance from the frame edges of the cover 6 on all sides. This results in a filling material 8 or connecting material 8 being present on all sides between the substrate 4 and the cover 6.

[0023] The problem of positioning and the associated disadvantages are solved by the solution according to the invention, as shown in the embodiment according to Figure 2 shown, eliminated or at least significantly improved.

[0024] The Figure 2shows a display arrangement 1, likewise comprising a rectangular, substantially flat display substrate 4 and a cover 6 with a connecting region to which the display substrate 4 is bonded by a bonding material 8 or connecting material 8, as well as a rectangular dam 12 which contains a bonding material, wherein the display substrate 4, however, viewed in a projection onto a plane running parallel to the flat display substrate 4, bears along its circumference against the rectangular dam 12 at two side edges 11 on the dam 12 or next to the frame edge of the cover 6 formed by the dam 12, and in fact completely along the two side edges 11.

[0025] The display substrate 4 lies completely with the upper side edge 11 and the right side edge 11 in the figure against the dam 12, in each case along the entire upper and right side edge 11. The two side edges 11, which in this embodiment lie against the dam 12, are two side edges 11 that are not opposite each other, but are connected to one another via a corner 14 of the display substrate 4.

[0026] The dam 12 may be formed integrally with the cover 6. As also shown in the Figure 2As can be seen, on those side edges 11 of the display substrate 4 that do not rest against the dam 12, one spacer 15 is arranged on the left side edge and two spacers 15 are arranged on the lower side edge 11. The spacers 15 each have a spring element 16, which presses the display substrate 4 with the opposite side edge 11 resting against the dam 12 against the dam 12. Thus, the two lower spacers 15 push the substrate 4 upwards, and the left spacer 15 pushes the display substrate 4 to the right against the dam 12.

[0027] The invention is not limited in its implementation to the preferred embodiments described above. Rather, a number of variants are conceivable, which utilize the presented solution even in fundamentally different embodiments, but which nevertheless fall within the scope of claim 1. For example, other shapes of spacers than those mentioned can also be used to position and secure the display substrate 4.
