[0001] The present invention relates to a base for a chair, wherein the base comprises a central opening which is designed to receive and support a post which is substantially vertical in an operating position of the base, and wherein the base has at least three, preferably five, arms which extend radially from the opening, wherein at least one of the arms has a substantially U-shaped or substantially O-shaped profile extending along its longitudinal direction from an outer arm end.
