Description

Title of the invention: Door threshold sill device made of extra-hollow wood composite

[0001] The present invention relates to a door threshold drip edge device made of extruded wood composite with thermal insulation within the cells, which prevents any thermal bridge break between the masonry screed constituting the floor of the building, its door threshold and the walls directly surrounding the door opening.

[0002] Existing state:

[0003] Traditionally, stonemasons use wooden formwork to pour the concrete for door thresholds. Besides the fact that the finished product is highly dependent on the quality of the formwork, this method is time-consuming, and, more importantly, it does not eliminate the thermal bridges it creates. In practice, door thresholds are poured before the concrete screed is laid. Once the screed is in place, the wooden formwork is removed to allow the concrete to be poured. Consequently, once the door threshold and the concrete screed are in place, these two elements come into contact and create a significant thermal bridge.

[0004] To address the time wasted by this traditional method, and to improve the finish of these thresholds, prefabricated concrete thresholds are available. While these offer some time savings during installation, their weight makes them difficult to handle. Furthermore, these thresholds conform to the concrete slab that will subsequently be poured, so the thermal bridge produced by this technology remains identical to the traditional solution described above.

[0005] There is no other solution than those described for making a door threshold, so that thermal bridges are produced, including for so-called passive houses.

[0006] The present invention attempts to address the problems of: - thermal bridges produced by the connection between the door frame and the masonry slab inside the dwelling, - the loss of time caused by the construction of a homemade formwork, - weight load and handling that depends on it for prefabricated door thresholds.

[0007] Presentation of the invention: the present invention relates to a door threshold drip edge device made of extruded wood composite with thermal insulation within the cells.

[0008] Let us recall that, halfway between wood and plastic, wood composite, also called "wood plastic composite" (WPC), is a composite material made from wood fibers and plastic resins, melted and mixed in order to be extruded.

[0009] The present device is intended for use as a non-returnable structure, in that it acts as both a connection and a barrier between the door threshold at the perimeter of the opening and the masonry slab of the house. In this respect, it constitutes a thermal break point that guarantees no transfer of thermal load from the outside.

[0010] The device is characterized by three profiles a) joined together at the same level, in the shape of a "U", this assembly is: - made of extruded wood composite with a honeycomb structure (d), the cells are continued on the horizontal plane and are designed to receive continuous thermal insulation (b) inside the "U", so that the insulation covers the entire length of the device, - the profiles constituting the two lateral legs of the "U" (a', a") have a dimension equal to the insulation (c) received by the surrounding walls of the door; so that once the device is placed in the door opening, the insulation constituted by both the wall insulation (c) and the insulation contained in the device (b) presents a continuity without loss of thermal pressure, - on the main profile of the "U" (a'"), and placed inside the "U", a guide (e) is attached to this main profile (a'"), for the purpose of constituting a masonry level guide for the professional who creates the masonry door threshold at the level of this guide.

[0011] With regard to the method of implementing the device, the following: - is first placed inside the door opening, before the masonry screed and door threshold are poured; this placement is executed according to the principle that the lateral legs (a' and a”) of the “U” are placed on the two uprights that surround the door opening (f), and according to the other principle that the main upright (a'”) of the “U” is placed inside the dwelling, - once in place, the device is secured to the ground by some means of fixing, in such a way that the pouring of masonry does not influence the position of the device, - Once this final pour is complete, the mason can begin pouring the concrete threshold, using the guide to ensure the threshold is level. - Finally, the masonry screed can be poured inside the house, - the device being lost-bottom, it remains in the finished work and constitutes a perfect insulation of the periphery of the screed at the point of the door opening, the device being trapped both by the concrete screed inside the work, and by the masonry door threshold at the periphery of the work at the point of the door opening.
