Description

Title of the invention: Dehydrated food for carnivorous domestic animals and its manufacturing process

[0001] The present invention relates to a dehydrated food for carnivorous domestic animals, such as cats, dogs and ferrets, as well as to a method for manufacturing said food. The invention also relates to said food placed in a hydrated form ready for consumption by the animal.

[0002] Food for carnivorous pets generally comes in the form of kibble, which is obtained by extrusion at high temperature. These kibbles have the disadvantage of containing a lot of carbohydrates and chemical additives. In addition, the animal itself does not drink enough, so the dry form is not suitable.

[0003] Pet food may also be in a particulate, dried or freeze-dried form, requiring rehydration by mixing with water for consumption by the animal. During this rehydration, a mass of more or less pasty consistency is formed. These pasty masses have the disadvantages of, on the one hand, not being appetizing to the animal, and on the other hand, not allowing the animal to chew or masticate. Consequently, meals taken with these pasty masses provide the animal with incomplete satiety and an unsatisfying experience, forcing it to "gobbling" which can be described as stressful.

[0004] The present invention aims to overcome all these drawbacks by providing a protein-based animal food, which is always in a dehydrated form, which can be consumed as is, and which, when prepared in the hydrated form, will provide better palatability by presenting the animal with food consisting of crunchy pieces in a sauce.

[0005] To this end, the present invention firstly relates to a dehydrated food for carnivorous domestic animals, such as cats, dogs and ferrets, characterized in that it has two components, each in the form of pieces, namely: A. a first component, consisting of a dehydrated food preparation based on at least one of: meat; meat derivative(s); fish flesh; fish skin; fleshy bones; fish bones; whole fish with bones; offal(s); and mixtures thereof; and B. a second component, consisting of a dehydrated food preparation based on blood and / or exudate of at least one of: meat; derivative(s) of meat; fish flesh; fish skin; meaty bone; fish bones; whole fish with bones; offal(s).

[0006] Meat and meat derivatives that may be mentioned include, among others, beef, veal, lamb, pork, poultry, rabbit, any suitable cut of meat, such as skirt steak, skirt steak with the entire membrane, etc.

[0007] The fleshy bone entering into the composition of the first component (A) can be chosen from the neck, such as poultry neck and rabbit neck, the fleshy carcass, poultry drumsticks, thighs and wings, rabbit legs, etc. and their mixtures.

[0008] The offal included in the composition of the first component (A) can be chosen from muscular offal, such as the heart, tongue, rumen, cheeks, lung, gizzard, and filtering offal, such as the liver, kidneys, intestines, thymus.

[0009] The constituents of the first component (A) may be the following: - 30 to 150 parts by weight of at least one of: meat; derivative(s) of meat; fish flesh; fish skin; - 30 to 150 parts by weight of at least one of: fleshy bone; bones of fish; whole fish with bones; - 5 to 30 parts by weight of at least one offal.

[0010] Each component may also contain at least one food supplement chosen in particular from brewer's yeast, hemp powder, hemp oil, herbs, turmeric, peppermint, stinging nettle, etc. and may in particular represent up to 30 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the associated component.

[0011] The pieces of components (A) and (B) may be pieces in the form of plates, the plates of component (A) having in particular a thickness of 3 to 6 mm and the plates of component (B) having in particular a thickness of 1 to 2 mm. The pieces of each of components (A) and (B) may be classified into large pieces not exceeding 8 cm in length and 5 cm in width, and into small pieces not exceeding 3 cm in length and 2 cm in width.

[0012] the weight ratio of components (A): (B) may be between 90:5 and 50:50.

[0013] The dehydrated food according to the invention can be presented with (A) and (B) packaged in a single bag or in different bags.

[0014] The present invention also relates to a food for domestic animals placed in a rehydrated form by a quantity of water such that solid chewable pieces of component (A) are obtained, which has not or practically not combined with water, in a sauce formed by component (B), which has combined entirely or practically entirely with water.

[0015] For example, water may be added in a proportion of 50 to 100 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of (A) + (B), to provide the food in a rehydrated form.

[0016] The present invention also relates to a method for manufacturing a dehydrated food as defined above, characterized in that the first component (A) is prepared by carrying out the following succession of steps: 1. preparation in a cutter-grinder of a ground product of at least one of: meat; meat derivative(s); fish flesh; fish skin; fleshy bone; fish bones; whole fish with bones; offal(s), entering into the composition of component (A); 2. possible mixing of the ground material obtained in (1) with at least one food supplement included in the composition of component (A); 3. dehydration of the mixture obtained in (2), leading to one or more blocks of material which are crushed if necessary to form the pieces of component (A);

[0017] and the second component (B) is prepared by carrying out the following succession of steps: 1. mixture of blood and / or exudate of at least one of: meat; meat derivative(s); fish flesh; fish skin; fleshy bone; fish bones; whole fish with bones; offal(s), and possibly at least one food supplement included in the composition of component (B); 2. dehydration of the mixture obtained in (1), leading to one or more blocks of material which are crushed if necessary to obtain the pieces of component (B).

[0018] The grinding in the cutter-grinder carried out during the preparation step (1) of the component (A) is a fine grinding, stopping however before the formation of a puree.

[0019] The dehydration (3) in the preparation of component (A) and the dehydration (2) in the preparation of component (B) may be dehydrations on a plate or on a grid and may be carried out in particular at a temperature of 60°C to 90°C for a period ranging from 2 hours to 20 hours.

[0020] For the preparation of component (A), at least one constituent chosen from: meat; meat derivative(s); fish flesh; fish skin; fleshy bone; fish bones; whole fish with bones; offal(s), which is at least partly frozen, subjecting the frozen constituent(s) or the frozen part of said constituent(s) to thawing for the purpose of grinding in (1), and recovering the exudate and / or blood which has escaped from said constituent(s) during thawing for the purpose of mixing (1) in the preparation of component (B).

[0021] The following Example illustrates the present invention without, however, limiting its scope.

[0022] Example: Preparation of a dehydrated food for domestic animals, in particular for dogs I Preparation of the first component (A)

[0023] We grind in the cutter-grinder: • 120 g of beef; • 120 g of meaty bone made up of 60 g of neck and 60 g of meaty carcass crushed; • 10 g of filtered offal consisting of 5 g of liver and 5 g of kidney; and • 10 g of muscle offal consisting of 5 g of lung and 5 g of heart.

[0024] The meat, fleshy bone and offal were initially in a frozen state, and were thawed for grinding. The exudate and blood that flowed out during thawing were reserved.

[0025] The grinding produced a fine but not pureed ground product which was then mixed with 4.4 g of brewer's yeast, hemp and hemp oil.

[0026] The ground material was then spread on a plate, which was then placed in a dehydrator. Dehydration was carried out at 65°C for 10 hours. A plate of dehydrated ground material with a thickness of 5 mm was obtained.

[0027] The dried ground material plate that had formed on the dehydrator plate was then crushed to obtain large pieces and small pieces. The large pieces had a dimension of the order of 8 cm long and 5 cm wide and the small pieces had a dimension of the order of 3 cm long and 5 cm wide. II Preparation of the second component (B)

[0028] 50 g of the exudate and blood that had flowed during thawing were collected during the preparation of the first component. 100 g was made up with fresh blood.

[0029] These 100 g were mixed with: • 15 g of brewer’s yeast; • 5 g of powdered hemp; • 5 g of hemp oil

[0030] then the mixture was placed on a plate which was then placed in the dehydrator.

[0031] Dehydration was carried out at 65°C for 10 hours. A dehydrated mixture plate with a thickness of 1.5 mm was obtained.

[0032] The dehydrated mixture plate that had formed on the dehydrator plate was then crushed to obtain large pieces and small pieces. The large pieces had a dimension not exceeding 8 cm in length and 5 cm in width and the small pieces had a dimension of the order of 3 cm in length and 5 cm in width. III Bagging

[0033] The following were placed in a bag for 1 kg of finished product: • 892 g of dehydrated preparation; and • 108 g of dehydrated sauce. IV Preparing a meal for an animal

[0034] The user takes from the bag, for a meal for his animal: • 85 g of dehydrated preparation; and • 15 g of dehydrated sauce.

[0035] He adds 50% water, or 100 g of water.

[0036] Wait 5 to 10 minutes for the pieces of dehydrated preparation to become soft and for the sauce to form. The waiting time depends on the animal's taste, this time being shorter if the animal prefers crunchier food.
