Description

Title of the invention: DEVICE AND STRATEGY FOR PROHIBITING DUAL CONNECTIVITY OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING

[0001] The invention relates to an electric or hybrid motor vehicle, comprising control means, arranged for the control of a battery pack, for the energy recharging of which battery pack said motor vehicle comprises a first AC alternating current circuit comprising an on-board OBC charger, which can be powered by alternating current via an AC retractable cable integrated into said motor vehicle and which is equipped at its external end with an AC connector suitable for being connected to an external power source, and said motor vehicle further comprises a BEPR charging socket comprising a DC charging port arranged to supply direct current to said battery pack via an internal DC cable in a second DC direct current supply circuit.

[0002] The energy recharging of electric or hybrid motor vehicles, known as BEVs, can be carried out according to the types of recharging that will be chosen by the user.

[0003] Mode 2 refers to the lowest power setting (3.7kW maximum - Alternating Current - AC). To charge in mode 2, an electronic control unit integrated into the charging cable must be used and connected to a standard household outlet.

[0004] Mode 3 is an intermediate mode in terms of power (22kW maximum - Alternating Current - AC). To charge in mode 3, a dedicated cable equipped with standard Type 2 connectors must be used and connected to a charging station; this station integrates the control, safety, and charge regulation / programming functionalities.

[0005] Mode 4 is a mode adapted to the highest power levels (350 kW maximum - Direct Current - DC). Mode 4 is implemented using fast and ultra-fast charging stations that deliver direct current at a very high power level. These stations have a charging cable with a specific standardized connector (Type 2 CCS Combo in Europe).

[0006] To enable these charging operations, BEV vehicles are equipped with an electronic charging socket box (BEPR) compatible with charging in modes 2, 3 and 4, as well as mode 2 and mode 3 charging cables (sometimes optional for mode 3).

[0007] To avoid any risk of damage to the vehicle, the cable and / or the charging station, the vehicles are equipped with a device which prevents the vehicle from starting as soon as a plug is connected.

[0008] To prevent any risk of cable theft, vehicles are equipped with a device that The cable is secured in the connector interface with a lock, typically electromechanical. Document US9776521B2 describes an electric actuator designed to control a lock that secures an external connector to the vehicle's charging port.

[0009] Some BEVs have several distinct means of electric charging, and can thus easily adapt to the fixed charging points available along a route. The invention falls within the scope of addressing misuse, or improper use, in the case of such a BEV vehicle architecture which includes such an electronic BEPR charging socket as the first vehicle charging point, and also a retractable cable that also allows connection to a charging point.

[0010] The BEPR charging socket has a DC charging port connected by a DC cable to the high-voltage battery pack. The retractable cable has an AC connector connected by an AC cable to an on-board charger (OBC), which supplies power to the vehicle's high-voltage battery pack. If the BEPR charging socket has an AC charging port, this port is generally deactivated, and any AC cable connection between this AC charging port and the OBC is either eliminated or at least interrupted.

[0011] In this situation, the user could simultaneously connect his vehicle to two separate charging points: the retractable cable to a domestic socket or wallbox type socket or charging station, and with a Type 2 or Type 2 CCS Combo cable to the BEPR charging socket, on a domestic socket or wallbox type socket or charging station.

[0012] But simultaneous connection of two separate charging points to the same vehicle must be avoided.

[0013] The objective of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks by offering an effective option for the user, to avoid misuse or abuse, and to provide him with a secure solution guaranteeing that only one single charging point can be connected to the vehicle at any time.

[0014] The invention implements a keying device on the BEPR charging socket when the user connects the vehicle's retractable cable to a charging source, to ensure that two charging points are not connected simultaneously on the vehicle.

[0015] The invention allows, in the event that the user first connects their integrated and retractable cable to a charging point, the deployment of a prevention device (locking finger, locking flap or keying device) on the BEPR charging socket so as to mechanically prevent the insertion of a Type 2 plug or Type 2 CCS Combo in the BEPR charging socket.

[0016] To achieve this objective, the invention proposes an electric or hybrid motor vehicle comprising control means arranged for the control of a battery pack, said motor vehicle comprising a first AC alternating current circuit comprising an on-board OBC charger for the energy recharging of said battery pack, which can be powered by alternating current via a retractable AC cable integrated into said motor vehicle and which is equipped at its external end with an AC connector suitable for being connected to an external energy source, and said motor vehicle further comprises a BEPR charging socket comprising a DC charging port arranged to supply direct current to said battery pack via an internal DC cable in a second DC direct current supply circuit.

[0017] According to the invention, said motor vehicle includes a device for prohibiting double charging connections, which includes a keying device which is controlled by said control means, and which is arranged to prohibit the insertion of a Type 2 or Type 2 CCS Combo connector into said BEPR charging socket.

[0018] Thanks to the invention, the vehicle control means manage the unique connection security and the security against an unscrupulous third party.

[0019] Advantageously, said keying device includes a movable mechanical locking means between a locking position in which it prohibits the insertion of a Type 2 or Type 2 CCS Combo connector into said BEPR charging socket and a release position in which the insertion of a Type 2 or Type 2 CCS Combo connector into the BEPR charging socket is possible.

[0020] Thus a physical obstacle ensures the impossibility of inserting any connector into the charging socket when the retractable cable for AC charging is unwound and ready to be connected to an external charging station.

[0021] Advantageously, said error-proofing device includes, directly on said BEPR charging socket, optical signaling means arranged to signal the unavailability of said BEPR charging socket.

[0022] Thus the user or any third party is informed by a simple and clearly visible means that any connection of a charging connector to the BEPR charging socket is impossible.

[0023] Advantageously, said motor vehicle includes control means connected to said control means, and which are arranged to determine whether a traction force is applied to said retractable cable.

[0024] We thus have a simple means of detecting an intention to recharge via the retractable cable, or a malicious intention to cause a simultaneous double charge in order to cause the vehicle to malfunction and immobilize it.

[0025] Advantageously, said motor vehicle includes a first hatch arranged to allow or prohibit access to a first housing containing said AC connector of said retractable charging cable, and a second hatch arranged to allow or prohibit access to a second housing containing said BEPR charging socket, and said control means are arranged to independently control the opening or closing of said first hatch and said second hatch, and are arranged to control the locking in the closed position of said first hatch when said AC connector is in said first housing and when an external connector is inserted into said BEPR charging socket, and to control the locking in the closed position of said second hatch when said BEPR charging socket is free of any external connector and when said control means are informed by said control means that a tensile force is applied to said retractable cable.

[0026] Thus, security is added to the access hatches to the different housing units, by individualizing their opening / closing and their locking in position.

[0027] Advantageously, said control means are arranged to, successively, upon a request to open said first hatch by the user, command its opening, and verify its opening status, display the status of said first hatch on a human-machine interface to inform the user, activate said error-proofing device and said control means to determine if a tensile force is applied to said retractable cable, and said control means are further arranged to detect an external power source to which said AC connector is connected and communicate this detection to the user for validation of said external power source by said user, to activate a strategy to stop said motor vehicle to prevent the user from starting it while said AC connector is connected to said external power source, and said control means are further arranged to activate said keying device on said BEPR charging socket to prevent anyone from inserting a Type 2 or Type 2 CCS Combo cable into said BEPR charging socket, and to inform the user thereof, and to authorize said external power source to deliver power to said motor vehicle, to manage the incoming power flow and inform the user thereof.

[0028] This sequence ensures that the user cannot perform a double connection, and protects him against a possible malicious action by a third party.

[0029] Advantageously, said first AC power supply circuit includes first circuit opening or closing means controllable by said control means, and said keying device is arranged to electrically neutralize said AC connector with respect to said on-board charger OBC by controlling the opening of said first AC power supply circuit AC by the aforementioned first means of opening or closing the circuit.

[0030] This configuration provides electrical safety, in the event that an external charging connector is connected to the BEPR charging socket before the retractable cable is extracted from its housing, or connected to an external charging station.

[0031] Advantageously, said second DC power supply circuit includes second circuit opening or closing means controllable by said control means, and said keying device is arranged to electrically neutralize said DC charging port with respect to said battery pack by controlling the opening of said second DC power supply circuit by said second circuit opening or closing means.

[0032] This configuration provides electrical safety, in the event that the retractable cable is extracted from its housing, before an external charging connector is connected to the BEPR charging socket, which doubles the mechanical safety on the BEPR charging socket.

[0033] In one variant, said BEPR charging socket comprises both said DC charging port and an AC charging port arranged to supply, in a third AC alternating current circuit via an internal AC cable, said OBC on-board charger, said third AC alternating current circuit between said AC charging port and said OBC on-board charger comprising third circuit opening or closing means controllable by said control means, and said keying device is arranged to electrically neutralize said AC charging port with respect to said OBC on-board charger, by controlling the opening of said third AC alternating current circuit by said third circuit opening or closing means.

[0034] This variant relates to the case where the BEPR charging socket includes both a DC charging port and an AC charging port. If the power supply circuit for the on-board charger via this AC charging port is not removed from the vehicle, this configuration provides additional electrical safety in the event that the retractable cable is pulled out of its housing before an external AC charging connector is connected to the BEPR charging socket.

[0035] In another variant, the DC charging port is the only connection port that the said BEPR charging socket has.

[0036] Thus, any possible recharging with alternating current can only be carried out using the retractable cable, and the electrical circuit between the BEPR charging socket and the battery pack is significantly simplified.

[0037] The invention will be further detailed by describing non-limiting embodiments, and based on the accompanying figures illustrating variants of the invention, in which ones: - [Fig.1] illustrates, in the form of a block diagram, an electric or hybrid motor vehicle according to the invention, comprising control means, a battery pack for the charging of which an alternating current circuit includes an on-board charger powered by a retractable cable having a connector connectable to an energy source, and a direct current supply circuit by a charging socket having a direct current charging port, the vehicle including a device to prevent double charging connection with a keying device arranged to prevent the insertion of a connector into the charging socket; - [Fig.2] schematically represents a housing containing a socket BEPR charging socket, with its closing flap, and the keying device, shown inactive in a dashed line, and active in a solid line, and movable according to a double arrow, to prohibit or release access to a DC charging port that this BEPR charging socket has, which is surrounded by a luminous ring that includes optical signaling means installed to show the unavailability of the BEPR charging socket, and including for example red LEDs; - [Fig.3] is a diagram that illustrates the double charging ban strategy, through the charging sequence, controlled by the control means, and specific to the vehicle represented in [Fig.1], and in particular a sub-sequence framed in a dashed line which manages the security of a single connection and security against an unscrupulous third party.

[0038] The invention relates to a device and a strategy for prohibiting double connection of charging of electric or hybrid motor vehicles.

[0039] [Fig. 1] illustrates an electric or hybrid motor vehicle 1000, which includes control means 100 arranged for controlling at least one battery pack 1. For charging this battery pack 1, the vehicle 1000 includes a first AC circuit comprising an on-board charger OBC 2, supplemented if necessary by a rectifier, supplied with AC power by a retractable AC cable 3 integrated into the vehicle 1000 and which is equipped at its external end with an AC connector 4 suitable for connection to an external power source (not shown), such as a household outlet, a wallbox, or a charging station. For charging the battery pack 1, the vehicle 1000 also includes a second circuit comprising a BEPR charging socket 10, having a DC charging port 20 arranged to supply DC power to the battery pack 1 via an internal DC cable 5 in a second DC power supply circuit.

[0040] To perform the single connection security, vehicle 1000 includes a keying device 50, in particular mechanical, controlled by the control means 100, and which is arranged to prohibit the insertion of a Type 2 or Type 2 CCS Combo connector into the BEPR 10 charging socket.

[0041] More particularly, the keying device 50, controlled by the control means 100, comprises a mechanical locking means 51 that is movable between a locked position in which it prevents the insertion of a Type 2 or Type 2 CCS Combo connector into the BEPR charging socket 10 and a release position in which the insertion of a Type 2 or Type 2 CCS Combo connector into the BEPR charging socket 10 is possible. In a non-limiting embodiment, as shown in [Fig. 2], this mechanical locking means 51 comprises a locking index, movable between a locked position in which this index prevents the insertion of a Type 2 or Type 2 CCS Combo or other connector into the BEPR charging socket 10, and a release position in which the insertion of a Type 2 or Type 2 CCS Combo or other connector into the BEPR charging socket 10 is possible. This locking index can notably be located frontally in front of the Type 2 socket of the BEPR 10 charging socket.

[0042] In another variant, which can be combined with the previous one, the error-proofing device 50 includes, directly on the BEPR 10 charging socket, optical signaling means 52 arranged to signal the unavailability of the BEPR 10 charging socket, for example red LEDs (acronym meaning in English "Light Emitting Diode" or, in French, DEL meaning "Diode Electroluminescente") around the connectors of the Type 2 socket and / or on the locking index.

[0043] According to an advantageous feature, the motor vehicle 1000 includes control means 40 connected to the piloting means 100, and which are arranged to determine whether a tensile force is applied to the retractable cable 3.

[0044] In one embodiment, the second DC power supply circuit includes second circuit opening or closing means 21 controllable by the control means 100, and the keying device 50 is arranged to electrically neutralize the DC charging port 20 with respect to the battery pack 1 by controlling the opening of the second DC power supply circuit by the second circuit opening or closing means 21, in particular a DC circuit switch controlled by the control means 100.

[0045] In another variant, the keying device 50 is arranged to both prevent the insertion of a Type 2 or Type 2 CCS Combo connector into the BEPR 10 charging socket, and to electrically neutralize the BEPR 10 charging socket with respect to the battery pack 1, by opening this DC power supply circuit for example with a DC circuit switch controlled by the control means 100.

[0046] More particularly, the first AC power supply circuit includes first circuit opening or closing means 42 controllable by the control means 100, and the keying device 50 is arranged to electrically neutralize the AC connector 4 with respect to the on-board charger OBC 2 by controlling the opening of the first AC power supply circuit by these first circuit opening or closing means 42.

[0047] [Fig. 1] further illustrates, in dashed line, the non-limiting case where the BEPR 10 charging socket includes both this DC charging port 20 and an AC charging port 30, the latter being arranged to supply, in a third AC alternating current circuit via an internal AC cable 31, the on-board charger OBC 2, directly or through a rectifier 33.This third AC alternating current circuit between the AC charging port 30 and the on-board charger OBC 2 includes third circuit opening or closing means 32 controllable by the control means 100; and the keying device 50 is arranged to electrically neutralize the AC charging port 30 with respect to the on-board charger OBC 2, by controlling the opening of the third AC alternating current circuit by the third circuit opening or closing means, including but not limited to a first AC circuit switch controlled by the control means 100.

[0048] In another variant, the DC 20 charging port is the only connection port that the BEPR 10 charging socket has.

[0049] In particular, a first hatch 49 of the vehicle 1000 provides access to the retractable charging cable 3, which is mainly dedicated to mode 2 and mode 3 charging. And a second hatch 19 houses the BEPR charging socket 10, mainly dedicated to mode 4 charging via a Type 2 CSS Combo connector (also compatible with mode 2 and 3 charging).

[0050] The first hatch 49 is arranged to allow or prevent access to a first housing containing the AC connector 4 of the retractable charging cable 3, and the second hatch 19 is arranged to allow or prevent access to a second housing containing the BEPR charging socket 10. The control means 100 are arranged to independently control the opening or closing of the first hatch 49 and the second hatch 19, and are arranged to control the locking in the closed position of the first hatch 49 when the AC connector 4 is in the first housing and when an external connector is inserted into the BEPR charging socket 10, and to control the locking in the closed position of the second hatch 19 when the BEPR charging socket 10 is free of any external connector and when the control means 100 are informed by the control means 40 that a tensile force is applied to the retractable cable 3.

[0051] According to the strategy developed to prevent a double connection, the control means 100 are arranged to, successively, when the user requests the opening of the first hatch 49, command its opening, and verify its opening status, display the status of the first hatch 49 on a human-machine interface to inform the user, activate the error-proofing device 50 and the control means 40 to determine if a tensile force is applied to the retractable cable 3. The control means 100 are further arranged to detect an external power source to which the AC connector 4 is connected, and communicate this detection to the user for validation of the external power source by the user, to activate a strategy to stop the motor vehicle 1000 to prevent the user from starting it while the AC connector 4 is connected to this external power source. The control means 100 are further arranged to activate said keying device 50 on the BEPR 10 charging socket to prevent anyone from inserting a Type 2 or Type 2 CCS Combo cable into the BEPR 10 charging socket, and to inform the user thereof, and to authorise the external power source to deliver power to the motor vehicle 1000, to manage the incoming power flow and to inform the user thereof.

[0052] [Fig.3] is a diagram which illustrates the charging sequence, controlled by the control means 100, and specific to this vehicle 1000, and in particular the sub-sequence shown surrounded by a dashed line which manages the security of a single connection and the security against an unscrupulous third party.

[0053] This diagram in [Fig.3] illustrates, from left to right, the interactions between four key actors in the process: the user USER, the vehicle VEHICLE, the external charging station STATION, and a malicious third party EXT.

[0054] The chronology is readable from top to bottom of the diagram.

[0055] Initially, in position W, vehicle 1000 is waiting or standby.

[0056] Positions A to E relate to the opening of the first hatch 49 to allow the user to proceed with recharging.

[0057] In position A, the user USER requests the vehicle VEHICLE to open the first hatch 49 which protects the power supply, the management of this first hatch 49 being carried out by the control means 100 of the vehicle 1000 in position B.

[0058] Initially, at time t1 after position A, the vehicle determines the status of this first hatch 49 in position C to inform the user. Subsequently, at time t2, which is later than the initial time t1, after position A, the vehicle displays the status of this first hatch 49 in position D to inform the user. During this action, the vehicle specifies, via the human-machine interface, which hatch is open; indeed, the vehicle has a first hatch 49 to protect the retractable cable 3 and its AC connector 4, and a second hatch 19 to protect access to the BEPR 10 charging socket.

[0059] Once the appropriate hatch is opened, positions F to S relate to the sub-sequence which manages the unique connection security and the security against an unscrupulous third party.

[0060] Once the charging hatch is open, the user USER must therefore exert an effort F to grab the retractable cable 3 integrated into the vehicle VEHICLE, unwind it from its housing and then connect it to an external power source STATION.

[0061] The error-proofing device 50 advantageously includes control means 40 connected to the control means 100, and which are arranged to determine whether a tensile force is applied to the retractable cable 3.

[0062] Once the STATION power source is connected (position G) and detected by the VEHICLE in position H, this detection is communicated to the user USER in position J, who validates the correct connection status.

[0063] The vehicle will then activate the vehicle shutdown strategy to prevent the user from starting their vehicle while the cable is plugged in. The vehicle VEHICLE is then unavailable and cannot move (position L).

[0064] Finally, the vehicle VEHICLE will then activate the error-proof device 50 (Position N) on the BEPR 10 charging socket to prevent the user USER (or anyone, including a malicious third party EXT) from inserting a Type 2 or Type 2 CCS Combo cable into this interface, and will inform the user USER (position P).

[0065] The vehicle VEHICLE authorizes the energy source STATION to deliver energy (position Q), manages this energy flow (position R) and informs the user USER (position S).

[0066] The case of an attempt to extract the retractable cable 3 by a malicious third party EXT is monitored by measuring the tensile force on this cable (position M) and analyzing it by the control means 100 at the level of position N.

[0067] The control means 100 also monitor the time elapsed between position J, which validates the correct connection status, and the communication to the user USER of the activation of the error-proofing device 50 (positions N and P), and compare this time to a third predetermined time t3, for example and not limited to 800 ms.

[0068] [Fig. 3] further illustrates the case of a planned charge, the sequence of which is shown surrounded by a dashed line. The user has connected their charging connector to the power source STATION but wishes to postpone the charging operation. The control means take into account the schedule required by the user (position T), request this planned charge from the power source STATION (position U), and, as in positions R and S, manage this energy flow (position V) and inform the user (position X).

[0069] Through this same flow, we will find the information which also allows us to communicate the vehicle's charging status via color logic, and also the access status to the relevant charging interface.

[0070] For example, and in no way limiting, a simple human-machine interface includes a single indicator light, comprising an outer frame which can be illuminated by peripheral LEDs of four colors, white, green, blue, red, or which can remain off, this frame surrounding a pictogram through which a central red LED passes, which is lit when the lock is performed.

[0071] This human-machine interface allows the charging status to be displayed simply, for example as follows.

[0072] No charging: peripheral LEDs off.

[0073] Initial charging: white peripheral LED lit for at least a predetermined lighting time.

[0074] Charging in progress: green peripheral LED flashing.

[0075] Programmed delayed charging: peripheral blue LED kept lit throughout the time from initialization until the start time of charging.

[0076] Charging interrupted: peripheral white LED lit for at least the predetermined lighting time, to indicate that charging is interrupted.

[0077] Charging complete: green peripheral LED lit steadily.

[0078] Charging incident: Red peripheral LED illuminates in case of a fault that may interrupt charging or prevent its start, such as a locking fault, battery fault, OBC% charger fault, or other.

[0079] The locking status is indicated by the central LED.

[0080] Unlocked state: central LED off.

[0081] Locked state: central red LED lit, in combination with the color codes specific to the different charging states shown above.

[0082] The logic of the invention, which is illustrated and detailed above for the usage configuration in which the user wishes to use the vehicle's retractable cable and where it is necessary to prohibit power supply via the BEPR charging socket, is of course usable in the opposite case where the user wishes to use the BEPR charging socket, and where it is necessary to prevent the deployment of the retractable cable. The error-proofing device 50 then includes a mechanical lock blocking the exit of the retractable cable 3, for example a brake 41, in particular at the level of the control means 40, and / or the locking means of the first hatch 49 protecting the retractable cable 3 and its AC connector 4, and / or an electrical lock, for example with, on the AC circuit, a second AC circuit switch 42 similar to the first AC circuit switch 32, and controlled by the control means 100, to open the AC circuit between the AC connector 4 and the OBC charger 2. .

[0083] In summary, the invention makes it possible to perform a keying on the charging plug BEPR prevents simultaneous connection to two charging points. If the user first connects their integrated, retractable cable to an external charging station, a keying device (locking pin, locking flap, or keying device) is deployed on the BEPR charging socket to mechanically prevent the insertion of a Type 2 or Type 2 CCS Combo plug into the BEPR charging socket.
