Description

Title of the invention: Cable stripping tool

[0001] The present invention relates to a tool for stripping a cable.

[0002] The invention can be applied generally to any body of revolution but is more particularly interesting in the field of high-voltage electric cables comprising, from their periphery towards their core, concentric layers, the stripping having the function of eliminating at least one of said layers, in particular the insulating layer. Stripping tools exist as illustrated for example by international application WO2006 / 027491. These stripping tools have a significant bulk around the cable, which can pose problems in confined spaces or on three-core cables. Less bulky stripping tools also exist but they are not versatile.Indeed, a cable is characterized by its tension which determines the thickness of insulation to be removed during stripping, its section which influences the clamping diameter to be made to hold the cable in position during stripping and the length of cable to be removed during stripping. Versatile stripping tools capable of allowing these three adjustments exist but they require a set of sockets with each socket corresponding to a section and a tension of the cable. This results in a tedious assembly and disassembly of the stripping tool with a risk of losing one or more sockets.

[0003] An aim of the invention is to propose a stripping tool whose design allows a reduced bulk of said tool around the cable without compromising the simplicity of mounting and adjustment of the stripping tool.

[0004] Another object of the invention is to propose a stripping tool whose design offers in a simple manner a possibility of versatility of the tool, this versatility being able to be obtained without a set of interchangeable parts.

[0005] Another object of the invention is to propose a stripping tool whose design makes it possible to switch from one cable to another cable having the same characteristics in a simple manner without having to repeat the adjustments.

[0006] To this end, the invention relates to a tool for stripping a cable comprising: - an elongated body with a longitudinal axis delimiting an axial cavity with a circular cross-section, - a handle positionable at one end of the body, in the extension of the body, and forming with the body a unit integral in rotation around an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the body, - a cutting blade mounted on the body in a manner integral in rotation with the body and extending at least partially inside the cavity of the body, - a so-called radial waste evacuation opening provided on the body / handle assembly, the handle being a hollow handle delimiting an axial housing open towards the body to form with the through cavity of the body an axial passage for receiving the cable to be stripped introduced into said passage via the end of the body opposite that connected to the handle, characterized in that the body is equipped with cable clamping jaws mounted on the body movable to slide in a radial direction to project more or less inside the cavity of the body and in that the stripping tool comprises a rotary member for driving in radial displacement to slide in synchronism of the set of jaws, in that this rotary member is mounted to rotate about an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the body, and comprises a plurality of fingers,in that each jaw comprises at least one open groove at each of its ends inside which a finger is able to be inserted to allow, in parallel with the movement of the finger from one end to the other of a groove under the action of a rotation of the rotary drive member in radial sliding movement in synchronism of all the jaws, a radial sliding movement of the jaw.

[0007] The design of the tool allows quick and easy clamping of the jaws around the cable which can be of variable section. The rotating member allows synchronous radial driving of the jaws without affecting the size of the tool in the direction radial to the cable. The in-line design of the tool with the handle, the body and the rotating drive member in radial displacement with synchronous sliding of all the jaws extending coaxially allows the size of said tool to be reduced around the cable in a radial direction. The production of at least one of the grooves in the form of an open groove allows a large adjustment range with reduced size.

[0008] It should be noted that by the expression "an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the body" is meant an axis which can be confused with the longitudinal axis of the body.

[0009] According to one embodiment of the invention, the rotary member for driving the set of jaws in radial displacement with synchronous sliding is hollowed out centrally to form a ring, this rotary member for driving the set of jaws in radial displacement with synchronous sliding being mounted on the body, preferably at the end of the body opposite that connected to the handle. The rotary member for driving the set of jaws in radial displacement with synchronous sliding is hollowed out centrally. This central recess allows the rotary member for driving the set of jaws in radial displacement with synchronous sliding to be traversed by the cable to be stripped. Ideally, the rotary member for driving the set of jaws in radial displacement with sliding of the body is mounted on the body at the end in synchronism of the set of jaws opposite that connected to the handle. This results in easy rotation of said rotating member.

[0010] According to one embodiment of the invention, the or at least one of the grooves of a jaw has a shape, or respectively a dimension, identical to the shape, or respectively the dimension, of the or at least one of the grooves of another jaw.

[0011] According to one embodiment of the invention, the or at least one, preferably each groove of a jaw is a curved groove with a concavity facing the cavity of the body, said groove being a curved groove in an arc of a circle with an evolving radius which increases or decreases from one end towards the other end of the groove and, for each jaw, the radius of the or one of the grooves in an arc of a circle taken with respect to a center passing through the longitudinal axis of the body evolves within a range of dimensions which is identical from one jaw to another.

[0012] According to one embodiment of the invention, at least a part of the or one of the grooves of a jaw is arranged on a circle passing through at least a part of the or one of the grooves of each of the other jaws.

[0013] According to one embodiment of the invention, the fingers of the rotary member for driving the set of jaws in radial displacement with synchronism sliding extend in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the body, said fingers are arranged on the rotary member for driving the set of jaws in radial displacement with synchronism sliding in at least two concentric circles and are organized in a staggered manner so that, for each jaw, at least one finger of the rotary member for driving the set of jaws in radial displacement with synchronism sliding is always engaged with a groove in said jaw.

[0014] According to one embodiment of the invention, the cable stripping tool comprises a member for adjusting the length of cable to be stripped, said adjustment member being in the form of a stop arranged inside the axial housing of the handle, this stop being mounted axially movable inside said housing, this stop being equipped with at least one member for immobilizing said stop in position. The presence of such a stop, while contributing to the versatility of the stripping tool, does not in any way detract from the reduced size of the stripping tool.

[0015] According to one embodiment of the invention, the or one of the cutting blades is coupled to one of the jaws called blade holder in a rotationally integral manner, said blade being mounted on said blade holder jaw movable to slide relative to the blade holder jaw in a direction parallel to the direction of sliding movement of the blade holder jaw to vary the cutting thickness as a function of the relative position of the cutting blade and the blade holder jaw. Again, this arrangement makes it possible, while contributing to the versatility of the stripping tool, not to increase the overall size of the stripping tool around the cable.

[0016] According to one embodiment of the invention, the cable stripping tool comprises a drive member for sliding movement of the cutting blade in permanent engagement with the cutting blade, this drive member mounted axially movable in a direction parallel to the direction of sliding movement of the blade-holder jaw in the direction of moving the blade-holder jaw apart or closer together to vary the distance between the blade and the blade-holder jaw, furthermore being a rotary member equipped with at least one male or female element, respectively, capable of cooperating selectively with at least two complementary female or male elements, respectively, carried by the blade-holder jaw to allow, in the fitted state of the male and female elements, immobilization in a predetermined angular position of said drive member for sliding movement of the cutting blade, each angular position corresponding to a predetermined distance or range of distances between the blade and the blade-holding jaw,

[0017] According to one embodiment of the invention, the cable stripping tool is equipped with a member for returning the drive member to slide the cutting blade into a position close to the blade-holding jaw.

[0018] According to one embodiment of the invention, the member for driving the cutting blade in sliding movement comprises a threaded rotary shaft equipped with a tapped wheel in permanent engagement with the cutting blade, this threaded shaft being equipped with a radial projection forming the male element of said driving member, this radial projection being capable of being inserted selectively into notches of differentiated depth provided in the blade-holder jaw, each notch forming a female element carried by the blade-holder jaw.

[0019] According to one embodiment of the invention, the cable stripping tool comprises an activatable / deactivatable system for immobilizing in angular position the rotary drive member in radial displacement with synchronous sliding of all the jaws relative to the body.

[0020] According to one embodiment of the invention, the activatable / deactivatable system comprises at least one pin carried by said rotary drive member for radial displacement with synchronous sliding of all the jaws, the body comprises a plurality of holes inside which the or at least one of the pins is able to be inserted, the or each pin being mounted to move between a locked position in which it is inserted into a hole in said body and an angular displacement of the rotary drive member for radial displacement with synchronous sliding of all the jaws is prevented and an unlocked position in which it is arranged outside the holes, the system comprising one push button per pin, this push button being mounted to move between a pushed-in position and an extended position, the extended position corresponding to the ver- rusted from the associated pin.

[0021] According to one embodiment of the invention, the or at least one of the cutting blades comprises two cutting edges orthogonal to each other, one of the cutting edges extends parallel to the longitudinal axis of the body. Brief description of the drawings

[0033] [Fig. 11] shows a sectional view of a stripping tool in the state of inserting a cable into said tool.

[0034] As mentioned above, concentric multilayer cable stripping is well known to those skilled in the art. Such a stripping operation is necessary for making electrical connections or splices for which it is necessary to remove at least a portion of an outer layer of cable, in particular the layer of coating or insulation of an electric cable.

[0035] It should be noted that the invention will be described below for an application to cable stripping, although it can be applied in an equivalent manner to cutting in the form of a helical strip any type of body, of generally cylindrical shape, such as a tube or other.

[0036] This stripping tool 1 comprises, as illustrated in [Fig.l], an elongated body 2 having a longitudinal axis represented at XX' in the figures. The detail of this body 2 is visible in [Fig.6]. The body 2 is a hollow body which delimits an axial through cavity 3 of circular section over at least part of the length of the body 2. This body 2 is cut at one of its ends to a handle 4. This hollow handle 4 is in the form of a tubular element. This handle 4 thus delimits an axial housing 7 open in the direction of the body 2 to form, with the through cavity 3 of the body 2, an axial passage for receiving the cable 20 to be stripped introduced into said passage via the end of the body 2 opposite that connected to the handle 4.

[0037] This handle 4 is equipped, at its end opposite that which can be coupled to the body 2, with two radial handles 19. The handles 19 are removable handles.

[0038] This handle 4 is also equipped, at its end opposite that which is fitted to the body 2, with a recess 18 capable of receiving the rotating head of a screwdriver. The handle 4 and the body 2 form a unit which rotates around an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis XX' of the body 2. The handle 4 and the body 2 are therefore coaxial.

[0039] In practice, the axis around which the handle 4 and the body 2 form a rotating unit coincides with the longitudinal axis XX' of the body 2.

[0040] The rotational drive of this body 2 / handle 4 assembly is carried out using the handles 19 or a screwdriver arranged in the axis of the body 2 / handle 4 assembly with the head of the screwdriver inserted into the imprint 18 of the handle 4. The stripping is carried out by relative rotational movement of the cable and the stripping tool 1, as will be described in more detail below.

[0041] Stripping is carried out as the stripping tool moves axially along the cable 20. The stripping operation is completed when the cable 20 is stripped over a length corresponding, for example, to the area in which a connection is to be made.

[0042] It should be noted that an equivalent result can be obtained by rotating the cable inside the axial passage of the body 2 / sleeve 4 assembly.

[0043] The body 2 / sleeve 4 assembly has a radial opening 6 for removing waste through which the cable cut, generally consisting of a strip of material in the form of a helical enrollment, is removed from said body 2 / sleeve 4 assembly.

[0044] The body 2 / handle 4 assembly also comprises a cutting blade 5. This blade 5 of cutting blade is mounted on the body 2 in a manner integral in rotation with the body 2. This cutting blade 5 extends at least partially inside the cavity 3 of the body 2. The detail of this cutting blade 5 is visible in [Fig.9].

[0045] This cutting blade 5 comprises two cutting edges 51 orthogonal to each other. One of the cutting edges 51 extends parallel to the longitudinal axis XX' of the body 2. In other words, the cutting blade 5 comprises a first edge oriented on a straight line which cuts perpendicularly the axis of the passage for receiving the cable 20 and a second edge oriented substantially parallel to the axis of said passage. The first edge is used to cut the strip of shavings and to separate it from the rest of the cable 20, while the second edge is used more particularly to detach the strip thus cut.

[0046] The cutting blade 5 is therefore always shaped with a cutting section which comprises a component with respect to a direction parallel to the axis of said passage and a component substantially perpendicular to the axis of the passage to allow automatic removal of the chips by detachment of the chip separated from the cable as the stripping tool 1 is rotated around the cable and its axial movement along the cable.

[0047] This cutting blade 5 can also be equipped with a sliding pad capable of bearing on a stripped portion of the cable 20. The pad is positioned on the cutting blade 5 beyond the second cutting edge. Thus, when the blade is viewed from the front, it has a first cutting edge followed by a second cutting edge, itself followed by the pad.

[0048] The pad is located opposite the cutting edge which makes it possible to separate the cut strip from the rest of the cable 20, this separation being obtained more particularly by the first cutting edge, that is to say by the cutting edge which has a component substantially perpendicular to the axis of the passage of the cable.

[0049] The detail of such a cutting blade 5 is not provided because such a blade is well known to those skilled in the art.

[0050] It is understood that, depending on the radial positioning of the cutting blade 5, a greater or lesser cutting depth can be obtained. This cutting depth can be adjustable by the relative positioning of the cutting blade 5 in the body 2 of the stripping tool 1 as will be described below.

[0051] In the examples shown, the cutting blade 5 is mounted on a clamping jaw 8 fitted to the body 2. In fact, the body 2 is equipped with jaws 8 for clamping the cable 20 mounted on the body 2, movable to slide in a radial direction to project more or less inside the cavity 3 of the body 2. These clamping jaws 8 are here three in number and are offset by 120°. Two of the jaws 8 are free of the cutting blade 5, while the third jaw 8, called the blade-carrying jaw 8, is equipped with the cutting blade 5. These two types of jaws are shown in [Fig. 10]

[0052] Each jaw 8 is in the form of a block insertable through a slot in the body 2 to allow its radial sliding movement. Additional guide members between the jaws and the body 2 can be provided if necessary. The slots in the body 2 are visible in [Fig.6].

[0053] The clamping jaws 8 are moved in a sliding direction in a radial direction to the cavity of the body 2 until they come to bear on the cable 20 introduced into the receiving passage of the body 2 / handle 4 assembly. To allow a radial sliding movement in synchronism of the set of jaws 8, the stripping tool 1 comprises a rotary member 9 for driving in radial sliding movement in synchronism of the set of jaws 8.

[0054] This rotary member 9 is mounted to rotate about an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis XX' of the body 2. This rotary member 9 for driving in radial displacement with synchronous sliding of the set of jaws 8 is shown in section in [Fig. 6] and in perspective in [Fig. 10].

[0055] This rotary member 9 for driving the set of jaws 8 in radial displacement with synchronous sliding is hollowed out centrally to form a ring 91. This rotary member 9 for driving the set of jaws in radial displacement with synchronous sliding is mounted on the body 2. The central hollow is of a dimension chosen to correspond with that of the cavity of the body 2 and that of the housing of the handle 4 to allow the cable 20 to be introduced by the rotary member 9 for driving the set of jaws in radial displacement with synchronous sliding into the cable receiving passage of the body 2 / handle 4 assembly.

[0056] In the examples shown in Figures 1 and 2, the rotary member 9 for driving the set of jaws 8 in radial displacement with synchronous sliding is arranged at the end of the body 2 opposite that connected to the handle 4. This solution is preferred because it is simple to implement and access to said rotary member 9 is facilitated.

[0057] Alternatively, the rotary member 9 for driving the set of jaws 8 in radial displacement with synchronous sliding could have been arranged in the thickness of the body 2. This solution is not, however, preferred.

[0058] Independently of its positioning on the body 2, the rotary member 9 for driving in radial overshoot with synchronous sliding of the set of jaws 8 comprises a plurality of fingers 10. These fingers 10, called axial fingers, extend in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis XX' of the body 2. In the example shown in [Fig. 10], the fingers 10 are arranged on the rotary member 9 for driving in radial displacement with synchronous sliding of the set of jaws 8, in particular, on the face of the ring 91 constituting said rotary member 9 facing the body 2, according to two concentric circles, and are organized in a staggered fashion as can be seen in [Fig. 10].

[0059] Each jaw 8 comprises, for its part, at least one groove 11 open at each of its ends. In the example shown in Figures 3 and 10, three grooves 11 are provided per jaw 8. The grooves 11 of a jaw extend on the same face of the constituent block of the jaw 8. These grooves 11 of the jaws are arranged opposite the fingers 10 of the ring 91 as visible in [Fig.2].

[0060] At least one finger 10 is inserted into the or one of the grooves 11 of each jaw 8 to allow, in parallel with the movement of the finger 10 from one end to the other of a groove 11, under the action of a rotation of the rotary member 9 for driving in radial sliding movement in synchronism of all the jaws around an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis XX' of the body 2, a radial sliding movement of the jaw 8.

[0061] The grooves 11 thus form, in the manner of ramps, members with a guiding and cam function for driving the jaws 8 in radial sliding movement. This radial movement takes place along a radius of a circle having a center arranged on the longitudinal axis XX' of the body 2.

[0062] [Fig. 3] illustrates how the rotational movement of the rotary drive member 9 in radial sliding movement in synchronism of all the jaws around the longitudinal axis XX' of the body 2 generates a radial sliding movement of the jaws 8 by pressing the fingers 10 against the sides of a groove 11 of each jaw 8.

[0063] It is noted that, in [Fig. 3], each groove 11 of a jaw 8 has a shape and a dimension identical to the shape and dimension of a groove of another jaw 8.

[0064] Each groove 11 of a jaw 8 is a curved groove with a concavity facing the cavity 3 of the body 2. In particular, each groove 11 of a jaw 8 is a curved groove in the shape of an arc of a circle with an evolving radius which increases or decreases from one end towards the other end of the groove 11. For each jaw 8, the radius of one of the grooves in the shape of an arc of a circle, taken with respect to a centre passing through the longitudinal axis of the body 2, evolves within a range of dimensions which is identical from one jaw to another.

[0065] As illustrated in [Fig. 4], at least a portion of each groove 11 of a jaw 8 is arranged on a circle passing through at least a portion of a groove 11 of each of the other jaws 8. This circle has its center arranged on the longitudinal axis XX' of the body 2. The circles each passing through a series of grooves are concentric. Thus, regardless of the number of grooves of each jaw, at least a portion of the or a groove 11 of a jaw 8 is arranged on a circle passing through at least a portion of the or a groove 11 of each of the other jaws 8, the circle having its center arranged on the axis XX' longitudinal of the body 2.

[0066] As shown in [Fig. 3], for each jaw 8, at least one finger 10 of the rotary member 9 for driving in radial displacement with synchronous sliding of all the jaws 8 is always engaged with a groove of said jaw 8.

[0067] As mentioned above, the sliding movement in a radial direction of the jaws 8 takes place until the jaws 8 come into abutment against the cable 20 to be stripped to ensure that the stripping tool 1 is held in position on the cable. This movement of the jaws 8 makes it possible to adapt the stripping tool 1 to different diameters or sections of cable 20. When the radial sliding movement of the jaws to a position in which the jaws rest on the cable 20 is completed, it is desirable that a rotation of the rotary member 9 for driving in radial sliding movement in synchronism of all the jaws 8 is no longer possible during the stripping operation, to avoid a loss of adjustment with the risks of imperfect cutting which could result therefrom.

[0068] For this purpose, the stripping tool 1 comprises an activatable / deactivatable system 17 for immobilizing in angular position the rotary drive member 9 in radial displacement with synchronous sliding of all the jaws 8 relative to the body 2.

[0069] The activatable / deactivatable system 17 comprises at least one pin 171 carried by the rotary member 9 for driving in radial displacement with sliding in synchronism of the set of jaws 8. In the example shown in [Fig.6], two pins are provided.

[0070] The body 2 comprises a plurality of holes 172 inside which a pin 171 is able to be inserted. Each pin 171 is mounted to move between a locked position in which it is inserted into a hole 172 of the body 2 and an angular displacement of the rotary member 9 for driving in radial displacement with synchronous sliding of the set of jaws is prevented, and an unlocked position in which it is arranged outside the holes 172.

[0071] The activatable / deactivatable system 17 also comprises a push button 173 per pin 171. This push button 173 is mounted to move between a depressed position and an extended position. The extended position of the push button 173 corresponds to the locked position of the associated pin 171. This operation of the activatable / deactivatable system 17 is visible in [Fig.6].

[0072] The push buttons 173, here two in number, are arranged in a diametrically opposed manner. This diametrically opposed positioning is imperfect by a few degrees in order to be able to have a greater number of immobilization positions. The push buttons 173 therefore extend around the periphery of the ring 91.

[0073] These push buttons 173 are returned to the extended position by a spring. Each push button 173, formed of a rod ending in a head, has along its rod a notch inside which a pin can partially retract in the retracted position of the push button 173 to extend flush with or set back from the face of the ring 91 opposite the body 2. Conversely, this pin 171 extends projecting from the face of the ring 91 opposite the body 2 in the extended position of the push button 173 to be able to be housed in a hole 172 of the body 2.

[0074] The holes 172 of the body 2 are arranged on the part of the body 2 opposite the ring 91 on a center circle passing through the longitudinal axis XX' of the body 2.

[0075] The operation of the activatable / deactivatable system 17 is as follows. It is assumed that at least one of the push buttons 173 is in the extended position and that one of the pins 171 of the ring 91 is inserted into a hole 172 of the body 2. The ring 91 constituting the rotary member 9 for driving in radial displacement with synchronous sliding of the set of jaws 8 is immobilized in an angular position. It is noted that, in the example shown, the push buttons 173 are offset by half a step. Consequently, only one pin is engaged with the body 172.

[0076] If a cable 20 has been introduced into the cable receiving passage of the body 2 / sleeve 4 assembly through the ring 91, and the jaws need to be moved, the operator simply needs to press the push buttons 173 and then rotate the ring 91. The pins 171 mounted freely to slide in their housings inside the ring 91 can, due to the depression of the push buttons 173 carried by the ring 91, retract into their housings and the ring 91 can be rotated until the jaws 8 come to bear on the periphery of the cable 20. To facilitate this retraction of the pins 171, the end of the pins 171 intended to be inserted into the holes and the corresponding holes are conical in shape.

[0077] As soon as the support position of the jaws 8 on the periphery of the cable 20 is reached, the push buttons can be released and the ring 91 is locked in angular position by the cooperation of at least one pin with a hole. The pins 171 pass during the rotation of the ring 91, in the pressed state of the push buttons, from hole to hole. These holes 172 form the equivalent of notches and each materialize an indexing position of the ring 91.

[0078] When it is necessary to loosen the jaws 8, the procedure is similar and the ring 91 is simply rotated in a direction opposite to that used for tightening the jaws 8.

[0079] To perfect the stripping tool 1 and allow adjustment of the cutting thickness, the or one of the cutting blades 5 is mounted on the blade-holder jaw 8 which is movable to slide relative to the blade-holder jaw 8 in a direction parallel to the direction of sliding movement of the blade-holder jaw 8 to vary the cutting thickness depending on the relative position of the cutting blade 5 and the blade-holding jaw 8. This cutting blade 5 is, moreover, mounted integral in rotation with the blade-holding jaw 8.

[0080] To allow its sliding movement relative to the blade-holder jaw 8, the cutting blade 5 comprises, at the level of its connection zone to the blade-holder jaw 8, an oblong slot inside which is partially inserted a screw or a bolt connecting the blade 5 to the blade-holder jaw 8. This slot allows sliding movement of the blade 5 relative to the blade-holder jaw 8.

[0081] To control this sliding movement, the stripping tool 1 comprises a member 13 for driving the cutting blade 5 in sliding movement. This member 13 for driving the cutting blade 5 in sliding movement is permanently engaged with the cutting blade in a non-rotatable manner, so that the member 13 for driving the cutting blade 5 in sliding movement can rotate without generating rotation of the cutting blade 5. The permanent engagement of the member 13 for driving the cutting blade 5 in sliding movement with the cutting blade 5 is maintained by interlocking cooperation of a threaded wheel 132 which will be described below with a notch in the cutting blade 5. The elements are visible in [Fig.7].

[0082] In the example shown in [Fig.8], the member 13 for driving the cutting blade in sliding movement, in a direction parallel to the direction of sliding movement of the teardrop jaw, comprises a threaded rotary shaft equipped with a threaded wheel 132, in permanent engagement with the cutting blade 5. This threaded shaft 131 is equipped with a radial projection forming the male element 14 of the drive member 13.

[0083] This radial projection is capable of being inserted selectively into notches of differentiated depths provided in the blade-holder jaw 8. Each notch forms a female element 15 carried by the blade-holder jaw 8.

[0084] A return member 16 in the form of a spring arranged between a stop provided on the threaded shaft 131 and the blade-holding jaw 8, makes it possible to return the drive member 13 for sliding the cutting blade 5 into a position close to the blade-holding jaw 8. This return member 16 thus tends to maintain the male 14 and female 15 elements in the fitted state.

[0085] To allow adjustment of the position of the cutting blade 5 on the blade-holder jaw 8 in order to obtain a predetermined cutting thickness, it is sufficient to pull on the threaded rotary axis constituting the member 13 for driving the cutting blade 5 in sliding movement, to rotate said threaded rotary axis through an angle depending on the desired cutting thickness, this angle being able to be identified by means of a marking applied to the free end of said threaded rotary axis, as illustrated in [Fig.7] where the marking mentions the values 10, 20, 30 KV which correspond to the possible adjustment values before releasing the threaded rotary axis which is positioned, by its male element 14 in a female element, such as a notch 15, of the blade holder jaw, this notch being of a depth corresponding to the selected marking. The return member 16 maintains the threaded axis in this position of interlocking of the male 14 and female 15 elements.

[0086] If a finer adjustment is desired, it is sufficient to actuate the wheel 132 in the direction of screwing or unscrewing to generate a movement of this wheel 132 along the threaded axis. Because this wheel 132 is permanently engaged in a manner not integral in rotation but integral in axial movement with the cutting blade, an additional adjustment of the position of the cutting blade 5 relative to the blade-holder jaw 8 is obtained.

[0087] The transition to a new cutting thickness value is carried out in a similar manner to that described above.

[0088] In the example shown in [Fig.7], three notches are provided with three different depths, therefore three cutting thickness adjustment positions which correspond to the three values marked on the threaded axis, namely 10, 20, 30 KV. Obviously, this number of notches can vary in the direction of an increase or a reduction to increase or reduce the number of cutting thickness adjustment positions without departing from the scope of the invention.

[0089] Finally, to perfect the stripping tool 1, the latter comprises a member for adjusting the length of cable to be stripped. This adjustment member is in the form of a stop 12 arranged inside the axial housing 7 of the handle 4. This stop 12 is mounted axially movable inside the housing 7. This stop 12 is equipped with at least one member 121 for immobilizing said stop 12 in position.

[0090] The handle 4 is a longitudinally split handle. This handle 4 has, along its slot, graduations forming marks for selecting the stripping length. The stop 12 is inserted into the axial housing 7 of the handle 4. This stop 12 can slide axially inside the housing 7 to occupy, inside said housing 7, a position depending on the desired stripping length. The greater the stripping length, the closer the stop 12 is to the end of the handle 4 opposite that connected to the body 2. Once the position of the stop 12 has been determined inside the housing 7, using the graduations arranged along the slot of the handle 4, the stop 12 is immobilized in position by a wheel which is arranged outside the handle at the longitudinal slot of the handle, and which is connected to the stop. This wheel has a part that screws into the stop. Thus, during screwing, the wheel approaches the housing 7 of the handle 4. The handle 4 is at the level of its slot, sandwiched between the wheel and the stop 12, the . wheel forming the member 121 for immobilizing the stop 12 in position.

[0091] The operation of a stripping tool 1, as described above, is as follows. The length to be stripped is adjusted by positioning the stop 12 inside the handle 4, and immobilizing this stop 12 in movement using the member 121 for immobilizing the stop 12 in position. The position of the cutting blade 5 on the blade-carrying jaw 8 is adjusted by sliding the member 13 for driving the cutting blade 5 in movement in a direction parallel to the direction of sliding movement of the blade-carrying jaw and rotating said member 13 for driving the cutting blade 5 in movement.

[0092] The stripping tool 1 is positioned on the cable by inserting the cable 20 into the ring 91, then into the cable receiving passage of the body 2 / handle 4 assembly until the cutting blade 5 comes to bear on the end of the cable. The push button 173 is pressed to allow rotation of the rotary drive member 9 in radial sliding movement in synchronism of the set of jaws. The rotary drive member 9 is turned in radial sliding movement in synchronism of the set of jaws to drive the jaws 8 to a position in which the jaws 8 rest on the cable 20. The push buttons 173 are released to lock the angular position of the rotary drive member 9 in radial sliding movement in synchronism of the set of jaws.

[0093] The stripping tool 1 is then rotated around the cable 20, either using the handles 19 or using a screwdriver whose screwing head is positioned in the recess 18 of the handle 4 until the end of the cable comes to bear on the stop 12 fitted to the handle 4. The stripping operation is then completed.

[0094] The stripping tool 1 can continue to rotate to allow the cable 20 to be removed without having to loosen the jaws. The stripping tool 1 can then be used as is for stripping a new cable whose characteristics would be identical to the cable just stripped.
