Description

Title of the invention: DEVICE FOR APPLYING A COSMETIC PRODUCT COMPRISING A CASE Technical field of the invention

[0001] The invention relates to a device for applying a cosmetic product, in particular a cosmetic product stick, comprising:

[0002] - an application assembly extending along a main axis and comprising at least an application element for the cosmetic product having a free application end and at least one base for handling the application element which carries the application element by an end opposite the free end;

[0003] - a tubular storage case which extends along a main axis and which is distinct of the application assembly, the case having an upper end edge delimiting an opening and a lower end closed by a bottom, the case being intended to coaxially receive the application assembly by its free application end;

[0004] - a slider mounted to slide axially in the case and in which the assembly application assembly is intended to be held in a stowed position, the slider being slidable between an extreme retracted position in which the base is pressed axially into the case to prevent it from being grasped and an extreme use position in which the base projects axially relative to the upper end edge to allow it to be grasped in order to extract the application assembly from the case;

[0005] - a mechanism for controlling the sliding of the cursor between its two positions. Technical background

[0006] Conventionally, devices for applying a cosmetic product, in particular a cosmetic product stick, comprise an applicator which is fixed to a base allowing its manipulation by a user. In the case of a lipstick or equivalent labial cosmetic product, the applicator is formed directly by the cosmetic product stick.

[0007] To enable the applicator, here the cosmetic product stick, to be effectively protected, the application assembly, formed by the base and the applicator, is provided by means of a cap or case which cooperates with the base. Conventionally, the applicator is inserted into the cap or case so that only the base is visible. The applicator is thus protected by the case or cap. This allows the device to be stored in a bag without risking damage to the applicator.

[0008] Traditionally, the base remains accessible because the case only covers the applicator.

[0009] While this configuration is generally satisfactory, it has been found that, in certain situation, the application set could be accidentally removed from its storage case. This is the case, for example, when searching through a bag containing the device.

[0010] Furthermore, in the case of a device for applying a cosmetic product in the form of a stick, the application assembly often includes a mechanism for retracting the stick into a sheath. This is generally a mechanism that is controlled by rotating the base relative to the sheath. Actuation of the mechanism allows the stick to be deployed from its sheath during use. When the application assembly is stored in the case, the stick of cosmetic product is retracted into its sheath so as not to be crushed by the bottom of the case.

[0011] However, when the base is unintentionally rotated when the application assembly is stored in its case, the cosmetic product grape is damaged by contact with the bottom of the case.

[0012] To solve these problems, cases have already been proposed in which the application assembly can be fully inserted, including the base. In order to be able to access the application assembly, it is necessary to equip the case with a mechanism allowing the application assembly to slide between a stored position, in which the base is pushed into the case and is thus inaccessible, and a use position in which the base protrudes sufficiently from the case to be able to be grasped by a user.

[0013] Existing cases include a sliding mechanism provided with an elastic member for accumulating energy when the application assembly is pushed into its stored position. The application assembly is held in its stored position against an elastic return force of the elastic member by a cam locking member of a type similar to that of retractable ballpoint pens. To release the application assembly, the user must push to slightly retract the base into the case. The application assembly thus released is then pushed towards its use position by the elastic member.

[0014] However, such a case has a complex structure which requires the presence of numerous parts. The resulting case is therefore expensive to manufacture.

[0015] In addition, several of these parts are made from materials that cannot be recycled in the same sector. It would indeed be necessary to separate the different parts in order to allow efficient recycling of the device. This is particularly the case for the spring, which is made of metal. [0056] [Fig. 13] is an axial half-sectional view along the section plane 13-13 of the [Fig.2], Detailed description of the invention

[0057] By convention, the “axial” direction corresponds in the figures to that of the axis "A" or "B" main part of the application assembly and the case of the cosmetic product application device, such as a cosmetic product stick, in particular a lipstick stick, and the "radial" direction is directed orthogonally to the direction axial by radiating from each main "A", "B" axis.

[0058] In the detailed description of the figures which follows, the terms “upper” and “lower” or “top” and “bottom” will be used in a non-limiting manner with reference to the position of the elements in the figures described.

[0059] Similarly, the terms "outer or external" and "inner or internal" are used with reference to the radial direction, an outer element being radially further from the "A" or "B" axis than an inner element.

[0060] Figures 1 to 3 show a device 10 for applying a cosmetic product. Preferably, the cosmetic product (shown for example in Figures 6 and 7) is lipstick intended to be applied by rubbing, or alternatively a lip care balm.

[0061] It mainly comprises an application assembly 14 and a tubular storage case 16.

[0062] The application assembly 14 extends along a main axis "A" shown vertically in the figures. It comprises at least one element 18 for applying the cosmetic product having a free application end 18A and an opposite base end 18B. By way of non-limiting example, the application element 18 is here formed by a grape of the cosmetic product.

[0063] As shown in more detail in Figures 4 to 7, the application assembly 14 comprises at least one base 20 for handling the application element which carries the application element 18 by its base end 18B. The base 20 is intended to be grasped by a user to be able to handle the application assembly 14 and apply the cosmetic product by rubbing the free application end 18A of the application element 18.

[0064] The base 20 here has a tubular axial wall 21 closed downwards by a radial bottom 23.

[0065] By way of non-limiting example, the application assembly 14 here comprises a mechanism 22 for sliding control of the application element 18 formed by the cosmetic product stick. The base 20 carries the application element 18 via the mechanism 22.

[0066] The mechanism 22 is designed to cause the application element 18 to come out by at least one rotational movement.

[0067] The mechanism 22 extends along the axis "A".

[0068] An exemplary embodiment of such a mechanism 22 as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5 will now be described.

[0069] The mechanism 22 comprises at least one guide 24. The guide 24 mainly comprises a tubular body 26 which extends axially from a base 28 forming an end located at the bottom of the guide 24, with reference to FIGS. 4 to 7, to a outlet opening 30 intended to be crossed by the application element 18, shown at the top of the guide 24 in figures 4 to 7.

[0070] The base 28 is fixed inside the base 20, for example by force fitting into a housing of the base 20 which is delimited by the axial wall 21 and by the bottom 23. For this purpose, the axial base 20 is open at its axial end opposite the bottom 23.

[0071] The guide 24 here comprises a first slot 32 and a second slot 34 radially passing through the wall of the body 26. The slots 32, 34 are arranged diametrically opposite each other and extend axially.

[0072] The mechanism 22 comprises a cup 40 which receives the base end 18B of the cosmetic product grape forming the application element 18.

[0073] The cup 40 is intended to be mounted to slide axially in the guide 24, between an extreme retracted position of the grape, as shown in [Fig.6], and an extreme deployed position in which the free end 18A of the grape protrudes through the opening 30, as shown in [Fig.7].

[0074] The cup 40 here comprises two lugs 42 projecting radially outwards. Each lug 42 is engaged in one of the slots 32, 34 of the guide 24.

[0075] The cup 40 comprises an axial cylindrical wall 44. The wall 44 delimits a housing 46 for receiving the base end 18B of the grape forming the application element 18.

[0076] The mechanism 22 comprises a sheath 50. As shown here, the sheath 50 has a tubular wall 51 of axis "A".

[0077] The sheath 50 here internally comprises two grooves 52, 54, diametrically opposed, with which the free ends of the lugs 42 of the cup 40 cooperate in operation.

[0078] The guide 24 is mounted in rotation in the sheath 50 around the main axis "A". The guide 24 is thus received concentrically inside the sheath 50.

[0079] In the embodiment shown in Figures 4 and 5, a collar 66 of the body 26 is intended to be elastically snapped above a bead 64 of the sheath 50 to axially fix the sheath 50 and the guide 24.

[0080] In such a mechanism 22, the rotation of the guide 24 by means of its base 28 relative to the sheath 50 causes an axial movement of the cup 40, more precisely an upward movement or a downward movement of the cup 40 depending on the direction of rotation. When the cup 40 occupies its extreme deployed position, an upper part of the cup 40 here extends axially outside the sheath 50.

[0081] The cosmetic product grape moves axially with the cup 40 between the extreme deployed position and the extreme retracted position.

[0082] This is a non-limiting example of an application assembly 14. The case 16 may also be used in association with other types of application assembly 14. comprising a cosmetic product grape, such as unguided mechanisms.

[0083] The application device 10 also comprises the tubular storage case 16 which is separate from the application assembly 14.

[0084] The case 16 is described below with reference to FIGS. 8 to 11. The case 16 has a tubular shape which extends along a main axis "B". The case 16 has an end edge 70 delimiting an opening 72 and an opposite end closed by a bottom 74. The case 16 is intended to coaxially receive the application assembly 14 by its free application end 18A. Thus, when the application assembly 14 is stored in the case 16, the axes "A" and "B" are coincident.

[0085] The opening 72 has an internal shape adapted to receive the base 20 with a radial clearance just allowing its axial sliding.

[0086] As shown in [Fig.8] to 11, a slider 76 is mounted to slide axially in the storage case 16. The slider 76 has a housing 78 open upwards. The housing 78 is intended to receive the free end of the application assembly 16. It comprises means for holding the application assembly 16 in a stored position. A component of the application assembly 16 is for example held fitted with friction in the slider 18.

[0087] The housing 78 is here delimited radially by a cylindrical wall 80 of axis "B" and by a bottom 81.

[0088] In the examples shown in the figures, the sheath 50 is fitted with friction into the slider 76 when the application element 18 is in its extreme retracted position. For this purpose, an internal face of the cylindrical wall of the housing 78 has a shape complementary to the sheath 50.

[0089] The inner face of the cylindrical wall 80 is further provided with pads 79 making it possible to rub against the sheath 50 with a friction force sufficient to retain the application assembly 14, but with a friction force sufficiently low to allow a user to extract the application assembly 14 from the slider 76 with his fingers. The pads 79 are mounted on a portion of the wall 80 which is elastically deformable in a radial direction so that the friction force is not too high. The pad 79 is here flanked by two slots which make it possible to confer the desired elasticity to the wall 80.

[0090] The slider 76 is slidably mounted in the case 16 between an extreme retracted position, shown in [Fig. 10], and an extreme use position shown in [Fig. 11].

[0091] When the application assembly 14 is in its stowed position and the slider 76 occupies its extreme retracted position, the base 20 is pressed axially into the case 20 to prevent it from being gripped, as shown in [Fig.l].

[0092] Furthermore, in this position, the case 16 makes it possible to protect the cosmetic product by blocking the opening 30 of the mechanism. This makes it possible to prevent particles pollutants from coming into contact with the cosmetic product.

[0093] In the example shown in [Fig. 1], the bottom 23 of the base 20 projects slightly axially relative to the end edge 22 of the case 16, but not sufficiently to be able to be grasped with the fingers.

[0094] In a variant not shown, the bottom 23 of the base 20 is flush with the edge 22 of the case 16.

[0095] According to another variant not shown, the base 20 is completely pushed into the case 16 below the edge 22.

[0096] When the application assembly 14 is in its stored position and the cursor 76 occupies its extreme position of use, the base 20 projects axially relative to the lower end edge 22 to allow it to be grasped with fingers in order to extract the application assembly from the case 16, as shown in [Fig.2].

[0097] The case 16 comprises a mechanism for controlling the sliding of the slider between its two extreme retracted and use positions. To do this, the case 16 comprises at least two tubular sections 16A, 16B. The case 16 is more particularly axially divided into two tubular sections 16A, 16B.

[0098] The upper section 16A forms a ring which has the upper opening 72 and which is open downwards. The lower section 16B has the bottom 74 and is open upwards. The upper section 16A here has an axial length less than that of the lower section 16B.

[0099] The sections 16A, 16B are mounted to rotate relative to each other around the main axis "B". They are axially fixed relative to each other.

[0100] The upper section 16A has a cylindrical wall 80 of axis "B" delimited radially by an external face 80A and by an internal face 80B.

[0101] The lower section 16B also has a cylindrical wall 82 of axis "B" delimited radially by an external face 82A and by an internal face 82B.

[0102] For aesthetic reasons, when the sections 16A, 16B are assembled, their external faces 80A, 82A are arranged axially in the extension of one another. Thus, the case 16 has an external face of smooth appearance despite the presence of two sections 16A, 16B.

[0103] The upper section 16A is here mounted on the lower section 16B by elastic interlocking of elements of complementary shapes. The lower section 16B thus has an upper skirt 84 which extends from an upper end of the lower section 16B. The skirt 84 has a radial thickness less than that of the cylindrical wall 82 so that its external diameter is less than the external diameter of the cylindrical wall 82. The skirt 84 is delimited axially downwards by a shoulder 86 of the cylindrical wall 82 and axially upwards by a free edge 88.

[0104] This skirt 84 is intended to be inserted axially into an annular recess 90 made in the internal face 80B of the upper section 16A to assemble the lower section 16B with the upper section 16A. A lower end edge 92 of the wall 80 of the upper section 16A is then in abutment against the shoulder 86 of the lower section 16B.

[0105] To allow fixing by elastic interlocking, the external face of the skirt 84 of the lower section 16B and the internal face of the recess 90 of the upper section 16A are provided with at least one annular groove 94 receiving at least one complementary bead 96. Thus, such interlocking allows axial fixing of the upper section 16A on the lower section 16B while allowing their relative rotation around the main axis "B".

[0106] The sliding control mechanism of the slider 76 comprises members for transforming the relative rotational movement of the sections 16A, 16B into sliding movement of the slider 76.

[0107] To do this, the slider 76 is here guided in axial sliding relative to one of the sections 16A, 16B, while the slider 76 is guided in screwing relative to the other of the sections 16B, 16A.

[0108] In the embodiment shown in the figures, the slider 76 is guided in axial sliding relative to the section 16A comprising the upper end edge 70 of the case 16.

[0109] The axial sliding guidance is here achieved by engaging at least one axial protuberance 98 carried by one of the slider 76 or the associated section 16A, in an axial groove 100 carried by the other of the slider 76 or the associated section 16A.

[0110] Each protuberance 98 is here carried by the cursor 76.

[0111] The slider 76 has at least one protrusion 98 which extends radially projecting from an external face of the cylindrical wall 80. Each protrusion 98 is formed by an axial rib which extends radially from the external face of the cylindrical wall 80 of the slider 76. The protrusions 98 are here produced in a single piece with the slider 76.

[0112] The slider 76 here has a plurality of identical protrusions 98, for example four, distributed regularly around the axis "B". Each protrusion 98 extends in a main axial direction. The protrusions 98 are arranged near an upper end of the slider 76.

[0113] The protrusions 98 are intended to be received in complementary axial guide grooves 100 made in the internal face 80B of the cylindrical wall 80 of the upper section 16A. Each groove 100 is closed upwards while it opens axially downwards into the recess 90.

[0114] In a variant of the invention not shown, the protrusions are carried by the upper section while the grooves are carried by the slider.

[0115] The screwing guidance of the slider 76 is here carried out relative to the lower section 16B. The screwing guidance is carried out by engaging at least one radial lug 102 carried by one of the slider 76 or the associated section 16B, in a helical groove 104 carried by the other of the slider 76 or the associated section 16B.

[0116] In the embodiment shown in the figures, the at least one lug 102 is carried by the slider 76. The slider 76 is here provided with a plurality of lugs 102. The lugs 102 are distributed regularly around the axis "B". By way of non-limiting example, the slider 76 here comprises two lugs 102 diametrically opposite with respect to the axis "B".

[0117] The associated helical grooves 104 are here carried by the lower section 16B. The lower section 16B is provided with at least as many helical grooves 104 as there are lugs 102 carried by the slider 76.

[0118] To facilitate the assembly of the case 16, the lower section 16B is here provided with a number of helical grooves 104 which is a multiple of the number of lugs 102. The lower section 16B here has four helical grooves 104, only two of which actually cooperate with the lugs 102.

[0119] Each screw guide lug 102 is here distinct from the axial guide protrusions 98.

[0120] The helical groove 104 and the associated lug are arranged in the case 16, axially between the bottom 74 of the case 16 and the bottom 81 of the slider 76. Thus, the helical grooves 104 are interposed axially between the application assembly 14 and the bottom 74 of the case 16 when the application assembly 14 is stored in the case 16, regardless of the position of the slider 76.

[0121] To do this, the lower section 16B comprises a sleeve 106 which extends concentrically inside the case 16, upwards from the bottom 74. The helical grooves are made in an internal face 108 of the sleeve 106. The sleeve 106 being located below the bottom 81 of the slider 76, whatever its axial position, each lug 102 is carried by a rod 110 at the axial end of the slider 76. The rod 110 extends axially downwards from the bottom 81 of the slider 76. The rod 110 extends along the axis "B" of the case 16.

[0122] When mounting the case 16, the rod 110 of the slider 76 is screwed into the sleeve 106. The wall 80 of the slider 76 is provided with elastically flexible tabs 112A, 112B having a free end 114A, 114B which extends radially in projection. Each flexible tab 112A, 112B is mounted prestressed so that the free projecting end 114A, 114B rubs permanently against an internal face of the lower section 16B.

[0123] Thus, the slider 76 is kept centered in the lower section 16B. In this position, an upper part of the slider 76 which includes the protrusions 98 protrudes axially upwards relative to the upper edge 88 of the lower section 16B.

[0124] The tabs 112A, 112B also provide comfort of use by causing a braking force which opposes the sliding of the slider 76 in both directions. This braking force is of course much lower than the sliding force caused by the relative rotation of the sections 16A, 16B relative to each other with bare hands.

[0125] Furthermore, the slider 76 here comprises at least two tabs 112A, 112B whose free ends 114A, 114B are arranged at two different heights. A first, the internal face 82B of the lower section comprises an annular groove 116. The tabs 112A, 112B and the groove 116 are arranged so that when the slider 76 occupies its extreme retracted position, the free end 114A projecting from the upper tab 112A is elastically snapped into the groove 116, as shown in [Fig. 10]. When the slider 76 occupies its extreme use position, the free end 114B projecting from the lower tab 112B is elastically snapped into the groove 116, as shown in [Fig. 11]. The tactile and / or auditory sensation of the click thus allows the user to feel that the cursor 76 has reached one of its extreme positions.

[0126] Then, the upper section 16A is fitted with the lower section 16B so as to surround the protruding slider portion 76. The protrusions 98 are at the same time inserted axially into the axial grooves 100. The upper section 16A is elastically fitted with the skirt 84 of the lower section 16B. The axial travel of the slider 76 is thus delimited by contact of the lug 98 with the closed upper end of the grooves 100 upwards, and by contact of the lug 98 with the free edge 88 of the skirt 84 downwards.

[0127] Advantageously, all the components of the case 16 are made of the same material. This is, for example, a plastic material such as polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET). This makes it easier to recycle the case 16.

[0128] Advantageously, all the components of the application assembly 14, other than the cosmetic product, are made of the same material. This is, for example, a plastic material such as polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET). This makes it easier to recycle the applicator assembly 14.

[0129] Advantageously, all the components of the case 16 and the application assembly 14, other than the cosmetic product, are made of the same material. This is, for example, a plastic material such as polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET). This makes it easier to recycle the entire device 10 formed by the case 16 and the applicator assembly 14.

[0130] Alternatively, the components of the case 16 may be made of different materials. thermoplastics, provided that these materials can be recycled together in the same recycling stream. Examples include polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). For example, some components may be made of PP, while other elements are made of PET.

[0131] The use of the application device 10 is described with reference to FIGS. 1, 2, 3, 12 and 13. When using the application device 10, the user grasps the case 16 in which the application assembly 14 is stored, as shown in [Fig. 1]. The user rotates the lower section 16B relative to the upper section 16A. This causes the slider 76 to slide from its extreme retracted position, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 12, to its extreme use position, as shown in [Fig. 2] and 13. The slider 76 is then in abutment against the upper end of the axial grooves 100.

[0132] The base 20 can then be grasped by the user. The user pulls on the base 20 with one hand while holding the case 16 with the other hand to extract the application assembly 14 against the friction force provided by the pads 79 of the slider 76. Once the application assembly 14 is completely extracted, as shown in [Fig. 3], the user can freely apply the cosmetic product.

[0133] After use, the application assembly 14 is again inserted, by its application end, into the slider 76. Then the sections 16A, 16B of the case 16 are rotated relative to each other to lower the slider 76 into its extreme retracted position. The buffers 79 make it possible to maintain the application assembly 14 in the slider 76 during sliding. The base 20 is then protected by the case 16 in order to prevent any involuntary manipulation of the application assembly 14.
