Description

Title of the invention: COMPOSITION FOR THE REVITALIZATION OF KERATINOUS FIBERS Technical field

[0001] The present invention relates to a composition for revitalizing keratinous fibers, in particular human keratinous fibers such as hair. The present invention also relates to a cosmetic process for revitalizing keratinous materials. STATE OF THE ART

[0002] Under certain circumstances, such as exposure to the sun, keratinous fibers, such as the skin and scalp, are likely to sweat, resulting in the secretion of sebum.

[0003] Excess sebum secretion on the scalp makes hair greasy and damages its appearance, particularly its volumized appearance.

[0004] In addition, the presence of sebum reduces the perceived freshness on the scalp. Oily scalp is the second main concern when it comes to hair and scalp problems, especially among Chinese consumers.

[0005] There are many products developed to solve problems caused by excess sebum.

[0006] For example, US5137715A discloses a hair shampoo-conditioner composition consisting essentially of: (a) from about 1% to about 20% by weight of an anionic cleansing surfactant; (b) from about 0.1% to about 2.5% by weight of a substantially uncrosslinked polymeric amidoamine; and (c) a suitable carrier comprising water; wherein the composition has a pH in the range of from about 2.5 to less than 7.

[0007] However, many products on the market are not effective against excess sebum, so they cannot give hair a volumized appearance.

[0008] Therefore, there is a desire to have an effective solution for excess sebum that can reduce the problems caused by thick sebum and give hair a volumized appearance. Summary of the invention

[0009] An object of the present invention is therefore to develop compositions for revitalizing keratinous fibers, which can reduce the problems caused by thick sebum and give the hair a volumized appearance.

[0010] Thus, according to a first aspect, the present invention provides a composition for re- vitalization of keratinous fibers including: a. at least one spherical particle of lipophilically modified silica; b. at least one superabsorbent polymer chosen from starches grafted with an acrylic polymer; and c. at least one crosslinked polymer of hyaluronic acid.

[0011] According to a second aspect, the present invention provides a cosmetic process for revitalizing keratinous fibers comprising applying the composition according to the present invention to said keratinous fibers.

[0012] The inventors have discovered that the composition according to the present invention can effectively combat sebum and make hair volumized.

[0013] Other subjects and characteristics, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become even more apparent from the detailed description and examples which follow. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0019] As used herein, the term "keratinous fibers" includes human keratinous fibers, particularly hair.

[0020] In this document, the expression "at least one" used in the present description is equivalent to the expression "one or more".

[0021] According to the first aspect, the composition of the present invention comprises: a. at least one spherical particle of lipophilically modified silica; b. at least one superabsorbent polymer chosen from starches grafted with an acrylic polymer; and c. at least one crosslinked polymer of hyaluronic acid.

[0022] Spherical particles of lipophilically modified silica

[0023] The composition of the present invention comprises at least one spherical particle of lipophilically modified silica.

[0024] As used herein, a "spherical particle" means a particle in the shape of a sphere or at least approximately a sphere, and / or a particle having an aspect ratio of about 0.9 to 1.1, e.g., about 0.95 to 1.05. For example, one skilled in the art can determine whether a particle is sphere-shaped according to the conventional knowledge. In particular, with respect to a given silica, it is within the ordinary skill of those skilled in the art to distinguish the sphere shape from other shapes of plate, rod, powder, strip, irregular shapes or the like, and similar amorphous shape.

[0025] As used herein, "lipophilically modified" silica means that which has undergone lipophilic modification. According to the present invention, lipophilic modification refers to any organomodification capable of providing a hydrophobic or lipophilic treatment to the silica. For example, a silica may be treated with a siloxane compound, e.g., hydroxydimethylsiloxane (or other silanes, such as silazane, etc.), whereby the silanol group on the surface of the silica and the silanol group of the siloxane compound are condensed.

[0026] In some embodiments, the lipophilically modified silica is selected from silica treated with a siloxane compound, preferably selected from silica silylate, silica dimethyl silylate and mixtures thereof.

[0027] Among others, useful examples of "lipophilically modified silica spherical particle" may be those available from TOKUYAMA CORPORATION under the name AIRLICA® TL-10.

[0028] According to the present invention, when incorporated into the composition, the spherical lipophilically modified silica particles may have an oil absorption capacity of 500 mL / 100 g or more, 600 mL / 100 g or more, or even 700 mL / 100 g or more.

[0029] Advantageously, the spherical particles of lipophilically modified silica are present in the composition according to the present invention in an amount ranging from 0.01% by weight to 5% by weight, preferably from 0.3% by weight to 2.5% by weight, more preferably ranging from 0.5% by weight to 1.5% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition. Superabsorbent polymer

[0030] The composition of the present invention comprises at least one superabsorbent polymer chosen from starches grafted with an acrylic polymer.

[0031] The term "superabsorbent polymer" is intended to mean a polymer which is capable, in the dry state, of spontaneously absorbing at least 20 times its own weight of aqueous fluid, in particular water, and in particular distilled water. Such superabsorbent polymers are described in the book "Absorbent Polymer Technology, Studies in Polymer Science 8" by L. Brannon-Pappas and R. Harland, published by Elsevier, 1990.

[0032] Advantageously, said superabsorbent polymer is chosen from starches grafted with an acrylic homo- or copolymer, in particular starches grafted with sodium polyacrylate. Specifically, the acrylic polymer may be a homopolymer or a copolymer, in particular sodium polyacrylate.

[0033] These polymers have a high capacity to absorb and retain water and aqueous fluids. After absorption of the aqueous liquid, the polymer particles thus engorged with aqueous liquid remain insoluble in the aqueous liquid and thus retain their individualized particulate state.

[0034] The superabsorbent polymer may have a water absorption capacity ranging from 20 to 2000 times its own weight (i.e. from 20 g to 2000 g of water absorbed per gram of absorbent polymer), preferably from 30 to 1500 times and even better from 50 to 1000 times. These water absorption characteristics are defined under standard conditions of temperature (25 °C) and pressure (760 mmHg, i.e. 100000 Pa) and for distilled water. The value of the water absorption capacity of a polymer may be determined by dispersing 0.5 g of polymer(s) in 150 g of a water solution, waiting 20 minutes, filtering the unabsorbed solution through a 150 µm filter for 20 minutes and weighing the unabsorbed water.

[0035] The superabsorbent polymer used in the composition of the invention is in the form of particles. Preferably, the superabsorbent polymer has, in the dry or non-hydrated form, an average size less than or equal to 100 μm and preferably less than or equal to 50 μm, for example ranging from 1 to 100 μm, preferably from 5 to 50 μm and better still from 7 to 30 μm.

[0036] The average particle size corresponds to the mass average diameter (D50) measured by laser granulometric analysis or other equivalent method known to those skilled in the art. These particles, once hydrated, swell while forming soft particles with an average size ranging from 10 μm to 2000 μm.

[0037] These polymers are known for their gelling properties and are generally used in a pre-swollen form in aqueous phase.

[0038] According to a particular embodiment of the invention, the superabsorbent polymer(s) used comprise from 85% to 95% by weight of sodium polyacrylate and from 5% to 15% by weight of starch. Preferably, they consist of 90% by weight of sodium polyacrylate and 10% by weight of starch.

[0039] According to a particular embodiment of the invention, the number-average molecular weight of the superabsorbent polymer(s) used is greater than 1000 daltons.

[0040] Mention may in particular be made of starches grafted with an acrylic polymer and in particular with sodium polyacrylate, such as those sold under the name Sanfresh ST-100MC by Sanyo Chemical Industries or Makimousse 25, Makimousse 12 or Ma-kimousse 7 by Daito Kasei (INCI name: sodium polyacrylate starch).

[0041] The superabsorbent polymers used in the present invention may or may not be crosslinked.

[0042] The superabsorbent polymers used in the present invention are preferably starches grafted with an acrylic homo- or copolymer, in particular sodium polyacrylate, which is in particulate form.

[0043] Preferably, the superabsorbent polymer is chosen from starches grafted with an acrylic homopolymer, preferably in the form of particles having an average size (or an average diameter) less than or equal to 100 microns, more preferably in the form of particles, so that the hair will not stick to each other and will have a volumized appearance.

[0044] With the presence of the superabsorbent polymers, the composition of the present invention can provide a non-wet and quick drying feel.

[0045] On the other hand, since superabsorbent polymers have good affinity with the skin, they ensure good fixation of the absorption beads, which can provide good oil control efficiency.

[0046] Advantageously, the superabsorbent polymer is present in the composition of the present invention in an amount ranging from 0.01% by weight to 5% by weight, preferably from 0.1% by weight to 3% by weight, more preferably from 0.1% by weight to 1% by weight, most preferably from 0.2% by weight to 0.8% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition. Crosslinked hyaluronic acid polymers

[0047] The composition of the present invention comprises at least one crosslinked polymer of hyaluronic acid.

[0048] Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring linear carbohydrate polysaccharide found in almost all living organisms. Its chemical structure consists of alternating repeating disaccharide units composed of D-glucuronic acid and N-acetylglucosamine linked together by alternating beta-1,4 and beta-1,3 glycosidic bonds. The number of repeats can be as high as 10,000 with a molecular weight of approximately 102 to 104 kDa.

[0049] In general, the term "hyaluronic acid" encompasses all variants and combinations of hyaluronic acid or hyaluronate variants, of different chain lengths and charge states, as well as with various chemical modifications. Namely, the term also encompasses the various hyaluronate salts of hyaluronic acid with various counterions, such as sodium hyaluronate. HA is a highly hydrophilic macromolecule that plays a key role in water transport in the skin maintaining hydration and stabilizing the structure of the epidermis and dermis. HA plays an important role in the structural characteristics of many tissues. Due to its unique spiral structure in aqueous solutions, HA exhibits a very effective moisturizing property as it can retain up to 1000 times its weight in water.

[0050] Hyaluronic acid can be obtained from various sources of animal and non-animal origin. Non-animal sources include yeast and bacteria.

[0051] In the context of the present invention, the crosslinked AH polymer comprises crosslinks between the AH chains, which creates a continuous network of AH molecules that are held together by the covalent crosslinks, physical entanglement of the AH chains and various interactions, such as electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonds and van der Waals forces.

[0052] Crosslinking of HA may be achieved by modification with a chemical crosslinking agent. The chemical crosslinking agent may for example be selected from the group consisting of divinyl sulfone, multiepoxides and diepoxides. In particular, hyaluronic acid is crosslinked by a bifunctional or polyfunctional crosslinking agent comprising two or more glycidyl ether functional groups. More particularly, the chemical crosslinking agent is selected from the group consisting of 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE), 1,2-ethanediol diglycidyl ether (EDDE), diepoxyoctane and a mixture thereof. Preferably, the chemical crosslinking agent is 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE).

[0053] The crosslinked AH polymer may be a gel or a hydrogel. In other words, it may be considered a water-insoluble, but substantially diluted, crosslinked system of hyaluronic acid molecules when subjected to a liquid, generally an aqueous liquid.

[0054] The gel contains mainly liquid and may, for example, contain 90-99.9% water by weight, but it behaves like a solid due to a three-dimensional cross-linked HA network within the liquid. Due to its high liquid content, the gel is structurally flexible and similar to natural tissue.

[0055] Such a crosslinked AH polymer gives the gel high strength, long duration of life and high biocompatibility.

[0056] As mentioned, crosslinking of HA to form the HA crosslinked polymer gel can for example be achieved by modification with a chemical crosslinking agent, e.g. BDDE (1,4-butandiol diglycidyl ether). The HA concentration and the extent of crosslinking affect the mechanical properties, e.g. the elastic modulus G' and the stability properties of the gel. Crosslinked HA polymers are often characterized in terms of "degree of modification", "crosslinking ratio" and "degree of crosslinking" (Keene et al., Carbohydrate Polymers, 2013, 91,410-418).

[0057] The degree of modification (MoD) of HA is generally between 0.1 and 15 mol%. The degree of modification (Molar%) describes the amount of crosslinking agent(s) that is bound to the HA, i.e., molar amount of bound crosslinking agent(s) relative to the total molar amount of repeating HA disaccharide units. The degree of modification reflects the degree to which the HA has been chemically modified by the crosslinking agent. In a preferred embodiment, the degree of modification of the crosslinked HA polymer with a chemical crosslinking agent is less than 15 mol%, preferably less than 1.9%, more preferably between 0.1 and 1.9 mol%.

[0058] The crosslinked polymer of AH may also be characterized by the crosslinker ratio or crosslinking ratio (CrR). The crosslinker ratio (CrR) describes the proportion of total crosslinking agent bound (AH-X-AH and AH-X) that has bound two (or more) disaccharides (AH-X-AH only). The crosslinker ratio (CrR) of the AH is generally between 0.01 and 0.50. In a preferred embodiment, the CrR is less than 0.30, preferably between 0.10 and 0.20, more preferably 0.10 or 0.20.

[0059] The AH crosslinking polymer may also be characterized by the degree of crosslinking (CrD) corresponding to the stoichiometric ratio between the crosslinking agent which is doubly linked and the disaccharide units of AH. In a preferred embodiment, the CrD is between 0.2 and 0.8, preferably between 0.2 and 0.5, more preferably between 0.2 and 0.4, even more preferably 0.2.

[0060] A BDDE (1,4-butandiol diglycidyl ether) crosslinked AH gel can for example be prepared according to the method described in Examples 1 and 2 of published international patent application WO 97 / 04012.

[0061] According to the invention, the crosslinked AH polymer is preferably crosslinked by a chemical crosslinking agent, and the degree of modification of said AH polymer with said chemical crosslinking agent is less than 15 mol%, preferably less than 1.9 mol%.

[0062] More preferably, the degree of modification of said crosslinked hyaluronic acid polymer with said chemical crosslinking agent being in the range of 0.1% by weight mole to less than 1.9 mole percent.

[0063] More preferably still, the degree of modification with said chemical crosslinking agent is approximately 1.0 mol%.

[0064] In a particular embodiment, the AH crosslinked polymer is a sodium hyaluronate crosslinked polymer, which may be available as Hyacross™ from BLOOMAGE BIOTECHNOLOGY.

[0065] When the crosslinked AH polymer is applied to the hair root, it is less sticky. At the same time, it can change the hydrophobicity of the hair root surface and provide better anti-oil migration benefit.

[0066] Advantageously, the crosslinked hyaluronic acid polymer is present in the composition according to the present invention in an amount ranging from 0.01% by weight to 5% by weight, preferably from 0.01% by weight to 3% by weight, more preferably from 0.02% by weight to 2% by weight, most preferably from 0.03% by weight to 0.8% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

[0067] It is preferable that the weight ratio of the superabsorbent polymer to the crosslinked hyaluronic acid polymer is 2 to 80, preferably 2 to 50, more preferably 2 to 30, so that a preferred balance of the viscosity of the composition and the preferred feel provided by the composition can be achieved, while a preferred use experience can be achieved with the composition. [0069] Said aqueous phase is preferably present in an amount ranging from 50% by weight to 99% by weight, more preferably from 70% by weight to 99% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

[0070] The aqueous phase comprises water.

[0071] Water is preferably present in the composition of the present invention in an amount ranging from 50% by weight to 99% by weight, preferably from 60% by weight to 99% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.
