[0001] The present invention relates to a tool for removing the skin and husk (pericarp) from dry coconuts in order to extract the nut.
[0002] This operation is currently carried out by hand and with a saber in the Antilles, a dangerous operation which requires a certain amount of experience. There are also industrial machines which carry out this operation but are not within the reach of individuals and small local producers.
[0003] The simple and accessible device allows individuals and professionals to easily, quickly, in around a minute depending on the user, and safely, shell dry coconuts in order to extract the nut. Presentation of the invention
[0004] This tool consists of a base on which the foot is placed to stabilize it, an upright and a lever actuating a pair of spouts in order to separate them with a force multiplied by the lever arm. The user places the coconut on the spouts and operates the lever to separate them and separate the husk. This operation is repeated three to five times around the coconut until the nut is completely separated from its husk.

[0007] [Fig-1] represents the device, here in its right-handed version with forged beaks / stamped.
[0008] The “T” shaped base (1) is made of 40x6 mm rolled steel and allows the foot to be placed in order to stabilize the tool, it can also be fixed to the ground by through three holes not shown. It measures 200 mm wide and 240 mm long and is made up of two welded elements. In its middle, there is a small hole (4 mm) to allow the evacuation of liquids (rain or other) once the tube upright is welded.

It is also mounted with a slight downward angle to increase the lifting amplitude.

[0012] [Fig.5] shows the detail of the beaks. They are forged by hot press die-forging Made from 35x6 mm steel plate. They have a triangular ogival shape and are profiled on the sides to reduce their thickness and facilitate their insertion into the coconut husk. They also have a central core serving as reinforcement to increase their strength. The two beaks have different lengths so that they are aligned once the tool is assembled. The longer one is welded to the upright and the plates and the shorter one to the pivot axis. Three small notches on the tip of each beak improve the grip in the coconut husk. Because the beaks are die-forged, they guarantee the authenticity of the tool since they all come from the same die / stamp.
[0013] The two plates (5) in 30x5 mm flat provide the welded connection between the upright and the longest beak. They are drilled to allow the passage of the bent end of the lever which acts as a pivot. The shorter beak is welded directly onto this axis allowing it to move away from the first when the lever is activated.

1. Device for shelling dry coconuts characterized in that it comprises a pair of steel beaks (4), one fixed and the other movable and actuated by a lever (3) assembled on an upright (2) by means of two plates (5) welded and drilled to receive the pivot consisting of the bent end of the lever, the assembly welded to a base (1).
2. Device according to claim 1 characterized in that the lever is mounted on the right or on the left.
3. Device according to claim 1 or claim 2 characterized in that the “T” shaped base is pierced with three fixing holes.
