Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Cooling device for a power module Technical field
[0001] The invention relates to a device for cooling a power module. Technological background
[0002] Electrical systems are known from the state of the art, and in particular inverters comprising power modules. These power modules are preferably associated with a cooling device intended to prevent each power module from heating up in order to guarantee optimal operation thereof. The cooling device typically comprises a portion for circulating a cooling fluid against which the power module is applied.
[0003] The cooling device comprises a cover which holds the power module against the circulation part of the cooling device, the cover itself being fixed for example by screwing onto the circulation part of the cooling device.
[0004] The cover and the circulation part of the cooling device have for this purpose an orifice for the passage of a fixing screw.
[0005] Creating this hole is a long and tedious step in the production of the cooling device. The hole must be threaded to cooperate with the fixing screw. Summary of the invention
[0006] An idea underlying the invention is to provide a cooling device that is simple, quick and economical to produce.
[0007] According to one embodiment, the invention provides a cooling device for a power module comprising a circulation part in which a cooling fluid is intended to circulate and a fixing part for fixing the power module on the circulation part, in which: - the circulation part comprises a stack of metal plates comprising a first plate adapted to receive the power module and a plurality of intermediate plates comprising recesses providing channels intended for the circulation of the cooling fluid, - the fixing part comprises a cover for holding the power module, adapted to press the power module against the first plate of the stack, and at least one fixing member comprising a thread, the cover being provided with a passage orifice of said fixing member, this passage orifice being adapted to be positioned opposite a receiving opening of the circulation part, for fixing the fixing part on the circulation part by means of said fixing member, said receiving opening of the circulation part being delimited by a central hole of a threaded insert which is intended to cooperate with the thread of the fixing member and which is fixed to at least one of the metal plates of the stack, a plurality of metal plates of the stack each being pierced with an opening so that these openings together delimit a housing in which the threaded insert is inserted.
[0008] Thanks to these features, the manufacturing of the cooling device is fast and economical. It is not necessary to drill the receiving opening in each metal plate, they can be drilled in one go. In addition, it is not necessary to thread the receiving opening since it is delimited by the hole of the threaded insert.
[0009] According to one embodiment, the stack of metal plates comprises a closing plate which closes the housing opposite the first plate.
[0010] Thanks to this feature, the manufacturing of the cooling device is rapid and does not produce dust or particles released into the environment of the cooling device. Indeed, the dust or particles produced by screwing the fixing screw into the receiving opening are collected in the housing closed by the closing plate and not released outside the cooling device. Furthermore, this is achieved without adding any additional part in addition to the plates of the stack.
[0011] According to one embodiment, the closing plate which closes the housing is flat and extends parallel to the other metal plates of the stack.
[0012] According to one embodiment, the housing comprises at least one shoulder and the threaded insert is a crimped nut.
[0013] According to one embodiment, the housing comprises at least two shoulders, the crimped nut comprises a head which bears against one of the shoulders and a crimping bead bearing against another of the shoulders.
[0014] According to one embodiment, the threaded insert is entirely housed in said housing.
[0015] According to one embodiment, each of the plates of the stack is made of aluminum.
[0016] According to one embodiment, the cover of the fixing part is molded.
[0017] According to one embodiment, the cover of the fixing part comprises a support plate intended to press the power module against the first plate of the stack and at least one arm at the end of which the orifice is provided passage of the fixing member.
[0018] According to one embodiment, the fixing member is a threaded screw.
[0019] The invention also provides a power assembly, comprising a power module and a cooling device according to one of the preceding claims, the power module being arranged between the circulation part and the fixing part of the cooling device, pressed against the first plate of the stack by the fixing part. [0025] [Fig.5] is a schematic rear perspective representation of the whole of [Fig.l], Description of the embodiments
[0026] Figures 1, 4 and 5 show a circulation part 11 of a cooling device. The cooling device comprises a circulation part 11 in which a cooling fluid is intended to circulate (Figures 1, 4 and 5) and a fixing part 12 for fixing the power module 20 on the circulation part 11 ([Fig. 3]).
[0027] [Fig. 3] also shows three power modules 20. The power modules 20 are typically components arranged for the conversion of electrical energy from direct current to alternating current or vice versa. They are thus intended to form an inverter, in particular for an electric vehicle, that is to say a device arranged to convert the direct current delivered by an electric battery into an alternating current to power an alternating current electric machine and vice versa.
[0028] The cooling device described below is part of a power assembly further comprising at least one power module, the power module being arranged between the circulation part and the fixing part of the cooling device. dissement, pressed against the first plate of the stack by the fixing part, as will be described in more detail later. Three power modules 20 are provided here.
[0029] Each power module 20 is in the form of a block of generally flattened parallelepiped shape. The three power modules 20 are here arranged side by side, aligned along a longitudinal direction XI of the cooling device ([Fig. 3]). The cooling device here has an elongated shape along this longitudinal direction XL.
[0030] The circulation part 11 comprises a stack 13 of metal plates 14 which comprises a first plate 141 adapted to receive the power module 20, that is to say comprising a cutout corresponding to the shape of the power module 20. The stack 13 of metal plates 14 also comprises a plurality of intermediate plates 142 comprising recesses 15 providing channels intended for the circulation of the cooling fluid ([Fig.3]).
[0031] The coolant is a liquid, for example water-based with additives, for example glycol-based or any other coolant used in automobiles.
[0032] Each of the plates in the stack is made of aluminum. This material ensures efficient heat exchange with the cooling fluid.
[0033] The stack 13 of metal plates 14 of the circulation part 11 further comprises a last plate 143 arranged opposite the first plate 141 in the stack.
[0034] The first plate 141, the intermediate plates 142 and the last plate 143 are flat and comprise two parallel main faces connected by a peripheral edge.
[0035] A front face 141A of the first plate 141 receives each power module 20. A rear face 141B of the first plate 141 opposite its front face is applied against the intermediate metal plates 142 ([Fig.l]).
[0036] The main faces of the intermediate metal plates 142 are placed against each other.
[0037] The recesses 15 ([Fig.5]) of each pair of two adjacent intermediate plates 142 juxtaposed in the stack of intermediate plates 142 are in at least partial communication. Channels are thus formed in the stack of metal plates 14 by placing these recesses 15 in communication. These channels open outside the circulation part 11, so as to be able to be connected to a cooling fluid circulation system. The cooling fluid circulation system injects into the channels thus formed a cooling fluid which circulates in the channels to dissipate part of the heat contained in the circulation part and thus cool it.
[0038] The last plate 143 also has a flat front face 143A against which is positioned the rear face of the intermediate plate 142 of the stack 13 adjacent to the last plate 143 ([Fig.2]).
[0039] The last plate 143 at least partially closes the channels. It may include openings 151 ([Fig.5]) allowing the channels to be connected to the fluid circulation system (not shown).
[0040] The fixing part 12 comprises a cover 17 for holding each power module 20. The cover 17 is adapted to press each power module 20 against the first plate 141 of the stack 13 ([Fig.3]).
[0041] The fixing part 12 further comprises at least one fixing member 18 ([Fig.3]) comprising a thread.
[0042] The cover 17 is provided with at least one passage orifice 19 for said fixing member 18.
[0043] More precisely, eight fixing members and eight corresponding passage holes are provided here.
[0044] The cover 17 of the fixing part 12 is for example molded from metal, such as aluminum.
[0045] Each passage orifice 19 is adapted to be positioned opposite a receiving opening 30 of the circulation part 11, for fixing the fixing part 12 on the circulation part 11 by means of said fixing member 18.
[0046] In practice, the cover 17 here has the shape of a rider with a central support plate 171 and a plurality of lateral arms 172 which extend from the central support plate 171.
[0047] The central support plate 171 extends along the longitudinal direction XI of the cooling device 10.
[0048] The central support plate 171 is intended to press the power module 20 against the circulation part 11 of the cooling device 10.
[0049] When the cover 17 is in place on the circulation part 11, the central support plate 171 extends at a distance from the first plate 141, generally parallel to its front face 141A. A housing for receiving each power module 20 is thus provided between the front face 141A of the first plate 141 and the central support plate 171 of the cover 17.
[0050] The gap between the central support plate 171 and the front face 141A of the first plate 141 of the stack 13 when the fixing part 12 is fixed on the circulation part 11 is determined so that each power module 20 is pressed against the front face 141A of the first plate 141 when the fixing part 12 is fixed on the circulation part 11.
[0051] Each lateral arm 172 of the fixing part 170 extends from the central plate 171 to the front face 141A of the first plate 141. The shape of the lateral arms imposes the gap described previously between the central support plate 171 and the front face 141A of the first plate 141 of the stack 13 when the fixing part 12 is fixed on the circulation part 11.
[0052] The lateral arms 172 of the cover 17 extend on either side of the central support plate 171. A portion of them extends between the power modules 20 and on either side thereof. The lateral arms which extend between the power modules 20 extend perpendicular to the longitudinal axis XL. The cover 17 may also comprise other lateral arms 172 which extend at a non-zero angle other than 90° relative to the central plate 171. These are in particular the lateral arms 172 which extend at each end of the central plate 171 and block the power modules at the longitudinal ends of the device.
[0053] The lateral arms 172 separate the power modules 20 two by two along the longitudinal direction XI and block any movement of the power modules along this longitudinal direction XI ([Fig.3]).
[0054] The cover here comprises for this purpose eight lateral arms 172 which frame and separate the three power modules 20.
[0055] A passage orifice 19 of the fixing member 18 is provided at the end of each lateral arm 172.
[0056] The receiving opening 30 of the circulation part 11 corresponding to each passage orifice 19 of the fixing part 12 is pierced through a plurality of plates 141, 142 of metal of said stack 13.
[0057] The stack 13 further comprises other openings 40 adapted to receive a threaded fixing element such as a fixing screw.
[0058] The fixing member 18 is for example a threaded screw comprising a thread 18A ([Fig.2]) intended to cooperate with the threaded screw.
[0059] As a further variant, the fixing member may comprise a snap-fastening part cooperating with an opening or a crimping or riveting system.
[0060] More precisely, said receiving opening 30 of the circulation part 11 is delimited by a central hole 32 of a threaded insert 33 which is intended to cooperate with the thread 18A of the fixing member 18 and which is fixed to at least one of the metal plates of the stack 13.
[0061] In practice, each metal plate 141, 142 of a plurality of metal plates 141, 142 of the stack 13 is pierced with an opening 301, 302 so that these openings together delimit a housing 31 in which the threaded insert 33 is inserted.
[0062] The threaded insert 33 may in particular be a nut, and advantageously a crimped nut.
[0063] This nut here has a circular external contour. The openings 301, 302 of the metal plates 141, 142 are also circular and the housing 31 formed is substantially cylindrical.
[0064] More precisely, here, the housing 31 comprises at least one shoulder, for example two or three shoulders E1, E2, E3. Each shoulder corresponds to a sudden increase in the diameter of the housing 31 formed by the openings 301, 302 of the metal plates 141, 142 in the direction oriented from the first plate 141 towards the last plate 143. The shoulder(s) E1, E2, E3 are arranged close to the mouth of the receiving opening 30, that is to say close to the front face 141A of the first plate 141. In the example shown in [Fig. 2], the housing 31 comprises three shoulders E1, E2, E3.
[0065] The threaded insert is here crimped into the housing 31. It is crimped near the front face 141A of the first plate 141, at the shoulders E1, E2, E3 ([Fig.2]).
[0066] The crimped nut comprises a head 33A which bears against one of the shoulders E1, E2 and a crimping bead 33B bearing against another of the shoulders E3.
[0067] The nut is here entirely housed in the housing 31. A front face of the nut extends very slightly back from the front face 141A of the first plate 141. As a variant, the front face of the nut is flush with the front face 141A of the first plate 141. As a further variant, the threaded insert may be only partially housed in the receiving opening. It may then protrude from one side and / or the other of the stack 13.
[0068] The receiving opening 30 can pass entirely through the stack 13 or be blind.
[0069] In the latter case, the receiving opening 30 is closed for example by a closing plate of the stack 13. This is for example the last plate 143 of the stack 13 ([Fig.2]).
[0070] Alternatively, the closing plate may be one of the intermediate plates of the stack.
[0071] The closing plate which closes the housing is flat and extends parallel to the other metal plates 141, 142, 143 of the stack.
[0072] The portion of the closure plate which does not extend opposite the receiving opening 30 is applied against the rear face of the intermediate plate adjacent to the closure plate.
[0073] When the receiving opening 30 of the circulation part 11 in which the fixing member 18 is fixed is closed, the dust or particles generated by the introduction of the fixing member 18 into the receiving opening 30 cannot escape from the circulation part 11 of the cooling device. This dust or particles is retained inside the housing 31. Thus, the environment of the cooling device remains clean, free of dust or particles.
[0074] Furthermore, this is achieved in a particularly simple, rapid and economical manner. Indeed, no additional element is used to retain dust and particles. The housing is formed by one of the metal plates of the stack of metal plates 14 of the circulation part 11.
[0075] In particular, according to one embodiment, a part of a cooling device is manufactured according to the following steps:
[0076] - a plurality of metal plates 14 of said stack 13 are assembled, for example by soldering,
[0077] - the openings 301, 302 of each metal plate of the stack 13 are pierced,
[0078] - the nut is crimped into the housing formed by said openings 301, 302.
[0079] Furthermore, other openings for receiving a fixing screw can be obtained in this way.
[0080] Although the invention has been described in connection with several particular embodiments, it is quite obvious that it is in no way limited thereto and that it includes all the technical equivalents of the means described as well as their combinations if these fall within the scope of the invention.
[0081] A power assembly comprising a cooling device and three power modules has been described here. The power assembly may also comprise a cooling device and at least one power module. It preferably comprises a cooling device and between one and a number N of power modules, N being an integer. For example, N is equal to 3 or 5 or 6 or 10. Each power module may be formed from a module comprising a set of electronic components including transistors, for example MOS transistors, forming switches. Alternatively, a power module may be composed of a discrete component such as an IGBT transistor. Alternatively, a power module may be replaced by an excitation module, in particular a module for excitation of a coil of the rotor of a rotating electrical machine.
[0082] The use of the verb “comprise”, “comprise” or “include” and its conjugated forms does not exclude the presence of other elements or other steps than those stated in a claim.
[0083] In the claims, any reference sign in parentheses cannot be interpreted as a limitation of the claim.
