Abstract

A method of managing databases which includes receiving a database identifier (DID) for a database. Generating, using the DID, a unique identifier (UID) for the database and determining, after the generating, that the database is associated with a data protection policy. This determination may involve determining whether or not the unique ID of the database specified in the backup request has been tagged as FINAL. If it is determined that the database is associated with a data protection policy, then permitting backup operations specifying the UID to be serviced by an agent operatively connected to the database. If the database is not associated with a data protection policy, then may block the backup request.
