Description

Relating to the field of ladder access to decks, platforms or bars fitted to the roofs of vehicles. Access is usually enabled by leaning a ladder against its side, or having a short vertical ladder permanently attached to the rear door of the vehicle. The first method can be inconvenient and the second inconvenient and insecure. Deploying a ladder from a locked compartment under a vehicle roof deck provides a novel solution to the twin features of convenience and security. The invention employs a telescopic ladder held in such a way that it may be pulled across and to the edge of the vehicle, rotated around its upper rungs and then extended to the ground, giving convenient access to the vehicles roof. This deployment may be reversed to securely stow the ladder away. In the accompanying illustrations, In figures 1,2 and 3, a wheeled cradle a, runs in tracks b, attached to deck frame c, with a telescopic ladder d, secured to the wheeled cradle so that it may be rotated. Thus the cradle when the ladder is pulled out to the side of the vehicle, moves across in the direction f, until the ladder is completely outside its edge, where it may be rotated downwards, extended and deployed. In figure 4, a flap may be unlocked and opened, to reveal the telescopic ladder ready to be pulled outwards.
