Abstract

The design article is a shank into which a cap tip (welding electrode) is inserted and held. The cap tip pressed into the shank is worn out with each welding shot, so it is removed and replaced after a set number of shots. Conventional shanks have a cooling water passage running through them in the axial direction to directly cool the cap tip. This caused a problem in that cooling water would fall onto the floor when the cap tip was removed from the shank to replace it. The shank of this design is configured to close one end of the shank where the cap tip is attached, preventing cooling water from leaking from the shank during replacement, and the cooling water supplied to the shank makes a U-turn inside the shank and returns.
