Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present invention relates to compositions comprising an extract of Taraxacum Officinale and cosmetic methods of using the compositions. [Background technology]

[0002] Eco-friendly cosmetic formulations, designed and developed with environmental issues in mind, have become an important goal in efforts to address global issues.

[0003] It is therefore essential to propose more sustainable compositions, preparation methods and ingredients to meet these environmental challenges.

[0004] In this context, it is important to develop new cosmetic compositions that have a better carbon footprint, in particular by promoting the use of renewable raw materials and / or materials with a good naturalness index and / or materials of natural origin, more particularly materials of plant origin, whilst reducing the use of compounds of petrochemical origin.

[0005] It is known that Taraxacum officinale (dandelion) extract has several functions useful for cosmetic applications. For example, JP 2016-88939 A discloses that dandelion extract can promote the production of hyaluronic acid in the skin.

[0006] U.S. Patent Application Publication No. 2017 / 0049692(A) discloses that dandelion contains fructans and that dandelion extracts can reduce the accumulation of oxidized proteins from environmental pollution and scavenge the oxidized proteins, which when removed, can improve the radiance, luster and wrinkles of the skin.

[0007] WO 2001 / 66079 discloses a lotion (Example 6) containing an herbal extract obtained from a mixture of plants including dandelion. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]

[0180] The present invention will now be described in more detail by means of examples, which should not, however, be construed as limiting the scope of the present invention.

[0181] (Examples 1 to 6 and Comparative Examples 1 to 9) [Preparation] Each of the compositions of Examples 1 to 6 and Comparative Examples 1 to 9 was prepared by mixing the components shown in Tables 1 and 2. All numerical values for the amounts of components in Tables 1 and 2 are based on "weight %" of the raw materials.

[0182] [Table 1]

[0183] [Table 2]

[0184] [evaluation] (absorbance) The permeation test experiments were carried out in a Franz diffusion cell (Hanson) using a Strat-M membrane (Millipore, diameter 15 mm). The device consisted of a donor section and a receptor section, with the Strat-M membrane between the donor section and the receptor section. The receptor section having a given volume was filled with a receiving solution (0.25% by weight Tween 80 / deionized water) maintained at a temperature of 32°C, which was continuously stirred by a small magnetic bar. Each of the compositions of Examples 1 to 6 and Comparative Examples 1 to 9 was added to the cells at a concentration of 30 mg / cm using a spatula.2 After 5 hours, 200 μl of the receptor solution was removed from the receptor zone, and the same amount of fresh receptor solution was supplied to the receptor zone to maintain the same permeation conditions.

[0185] The amount of oligosaccharides in the receptor solution was determined by the phenol-sulfuric acid method, i.e., 150 μl of the removed receptor solution was mixed with 750 μl of sulfuric acid at 90° C. for 15 min, then with 150 μl of 5 wt % phenol solution at room temperature (25° C.) for 5 min. The oligosaccharides were converted to brown substances consisting of UV-absorbing chromophores. The UV absorption of the reacted receptor solution at 400 nm was measured using a spectrophotometer. The UV absorption was taken as an indicator of the amount of oligosaccharides in the receptor solution.

[0186] The results are shown in Tables 1 and 2 in the rows entitled "Absorbance (400 nm)."

[0187] (summary) A comparison of Examples 1-6 and Comparative Example 7 demonstrates that the use of glycols significantly enhances skin penetration of oligosaccharides compared to without the use of glycols.

[0188] A comparison of Examples 1-3 and Examples 4-6, respectively, demonstrates that the use of pentylene glycol can better enhance skin penetration of oligosaccharides compared to the use of propylene glycol.

[0189] A comparison of Examples 1-6 and Comparative Example 7 demonstrates that the use of polyhydric (trihydric) alcohols or monohydric alcohols did not enhance skin penetration of oligosaccharides compared to no use of polyhydric or monohydric alcohols.

[0190] Comparison of Comparative Example 8 and Comparative Example 7 demonstrates that the use of glycols in combination with 0.2 wt. % polyglyceryl fatty acid monoester is insufficient to significantly enhance skin penetration of oligosaccharides.

[0191] Comparison of Comparative Example 9 and Comparative Example 7 demonstrates that the use of glycols, but not polyglyceryl fatty acid monoesters, did not enhance skin penetration of oligosaccharides.
