Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present invention relates to an aqueous aerosol paint concentrate, and an aqueous aerosol paint containing the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate, and more particularly to an aqueous aerosol paint concentrate that has excellent aerosol suitability and can provide a high level of coating performance, and an aqueous aerosol paint containing the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate. [Background technology]

[0002] Considering the burden on the natural environment, many proposals have been made to develop water-based paints that use water as a solvent. In aerosol paints, the development of lacquer-based aerosol paints has shifted to water-based aerosol paints. For example, Patent Document 1 proposes an aqueous aerosol paint composition that is excellent in adhesion to substrates, non-brittleness, non-stickiness, water resistance, etc., and that can be suitably used for repairing parts painted with household paints and products painted with industrial paints, by blending a water-dilutable resin having a specific weight-average molecular weight range and an emulsion of a resin having a specific weight-average molecular weight range in a specific ratio. Patent Document 2 proposes an aqueous aerosol paint concentrate and an aqueous aerosol paint composition that use a dispersion resin as a binder to sufficiently reduce the amount of VOCs and have excellent storage stability and coating film performance. Water-based aerosol paints use water-soluble resins (which have a lower molecular weight and a higher acid value than the resins used in lacquer-based aerosol paints), and therefore have problems with aerosol suitability, such as storage stability and drying speed, and with coating film performance, such as water resistance and coating film durability. In light of this problem, many water-based aerosol paints have been proposed, but no water-based aerosol paints that provide high levels of both aerosol suitability and coating film performance (especially high levels of coating film performance) have yet been developed. This provides the advantageous effect of being able to provide an aqueous aerosol paint having excellent aerosol suitability and high-level coating performance. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0023] Hereinafter, embodiments of the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate according to the present invention and an aqueous aerosol paint containing the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate will be described in detail, but the technical scope of the present invention should not be limited by these descriptions.

[0024] The aqueous aerosol paint concentrate of the present invention is a concentrate that is the basis of a paint product and that essentially determines the performance of the paint when producing an aqueous aerosol paint that has excellent aerosol suitability and can provide a high level of coating film performance. The aqueous aerosol paint concentrate according to the present invention contains a dispersion resin, water, a co-solvent, a pigment, and additives. The aqueous aerosol paint concentrate according to the present invention is designed so that the resin solid content is 20 parts by weight or more and 40 parts by weight or less, preferably 25 parts by weight or more and 35 parts by weight or less. By setting the resin solid content in the range of 20 parts by weight or more and 40 parts by weight or less, adhesion is not significantly reduced, the sprayability (or atomization ability) is good when sprayed as an aerosol paint, the sprayed paint is less likely to drip, and a coating film with a beautiful appearance can be obtained. If the resin solid content is less than 20 parts by weight, the sprayed coating material will tend to drip, and the resulting coating film may not have sufficient coating film performance. If the resin solid content exceeds 40 parts by weight, the sprayability (or atomizability) will be poor when sprayed as an aerosol paint, and a coating film with a poor finished appearance may be formed.

[0025] The water-based aerosol paint according to the present invention includes a water-based aerosol paint concentrate, a propellant, and additives. The blending ratio of the aqueous aerosol paint according to the present invention is designed so that the propellant is contained in an amount of 60 parts by weight to 95 parts by weight, and preferably 70 parts by weight to 90 parts by weight, per 100 parts by weight of the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate. If the amount is less than 60 parts by weight, the paint viscosity becomes too high, making it difficult to manufacture and not forming a mist when sprayed, while if the amount exceeds 95 parts by weight, the paint tends to drip when sprayed on the target object, making it impossible to obtain a coating film with a clean appearance, so the propellant content is preferably 60 parts by weight to 95 parts by weight.

[0026] The dispersion resin according to the present invention is a general term for resins dispersed in a solvent mainly composed of water. Examples of the resins include polyacrylic resins, polyurethane resins, epoxy resins, polyvinyl resins, polycarbonate resins, polyether resins, acetal resins, allyl resins, polyester resins, alkyd resins, fluororesins, and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resins. In the present invention, alkyd resins are preferred. The dispersion resin according to the present invention can be used as resin C having new properties by chemically reacting (modifying) a functional group of resin A with resin B. For example, in the present invention, a resin containing an alkyd resin as a main component and modified with a polyacrylic resin (hereinafter referred to as an acrylic-modified alkyd resin) is suitable. The blending ratio of the dispersion resin according to the present invention is appropriately designed so that the resin solid content is 20 parts by weight or more and 40 parts by weight or less, preferably 25 parts by weight or more and 35 parts by weight or less. If the resin solid content is less than 20 parts by weight, the sprayed coating material tends to drip, and the resulting coating film often does not have sufficient coating film performance. If the resin solid content exceeds 40 parts by weight, the sprayability (or atomizability) becomes poor when sprayed as an aerosol paint, and a coating film with a poor appearance finish is often formed.

[0027] The water according to the present invention is not particularly limited in type as long as it is water that can fully exert the functions (aerosol suitability and coating film performance) of the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate and the aqueous aerosol paint, but ion-exchanged water is preferably used. The blending ratio of water according to the present invention is preferably from 40 to 70 parts by weight, more preferably from 50 to 60 parts by weight, of the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate. If the blending ratio of water is less than 40 parts by weight, the sprayability (or atomization property) will be poor when sprayed as an aerosol paint, and a coating film with a poor appearance may be formed. If the blending ratio of water exceeds 70 parts by weight, the sprayed paint will tend to drip, the desired film thickness may not be fully achieved, and the resulting coating may not have sufficient coating performance.

[0028] The co-solvent according to the present invention refers to an organic solvent that has a high affinity for water and can be miscible with water in any ratio. Specific examples of the co-solvent include methanol, ethanol, dimethyl ether, butyl cellosolve (ethylene glycol monobutyl ether), propylene glycol monomethyl ether (PM), diethylene glycol monobutyl ether, diethylene glycol, dioxane, acetic acid, dipropylene glycol n-butyl ether (DPnB), benzyl alcohol, 1,2-dimethoxyethane, diethylene glycol diethyl ether, pyridine, t-butyl alcohol, 2-propanol, acetone, N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), acetonitrile, ethylene glycol, and glycerin, with butyl cellosolve being preferably used. The blending ratio of the co-solvent according to the present invention is preferably from 5.0 parts by weight to 30 parts by weight, more preferably from 10 parts by weight to 20 parts by weight, in the aqueous aerosol coating concentrate. This is because, although it is desirable to reduce the organic solvent content as much as possible from the perspective of the burden on the global environment, a co-solvent of 5.0 parts by weight or more and 30 parts by weight or less is necessary due to production problems, the tendency for the product to become mist when sprayed, and the need to achieve a clean finish. If the mixing ratio of the co-solvent is less than 5.0 parts by weight, the dispersion resin will not be compatible with water, and the aerosol paint concentrate produced may not be a homogeneous solution. In addition, it may be difficult to form a mist when sprayed, and the appearance of the coating film produced may be poor. If the blending ratio of the co-solvent exceeds 30 parts by weight, it may become difficult to obtain a sufficient coating thickness when applied, and as a result, it may not be possible to produce a coating having the coating performance desired in the present invention.

[0029] As the pigment according to the present invention, commonly used pigments such as titanium oxide, red iron oxide, carbon black, phthalocyanine blue, fast yellow, naphthol red, yellow iron oxide, etc., as well as rust-preventive pigments such as zinc powder, zinc phosphate, and aluminum tripolyphosphate can be used. If necessary, extender pigments such as precipitated barium sulfate, calcium carbonate, talc, clay, silica, etc. can also be suitably used. The blending ratio of the pigment according to the present invention is preferably 10 parts by weight or less, more preferably 1.0 part by weight or less, in the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate. This is because the dispersion process is not assumed in the preparation of the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate of the present invention. If the blending ratio of the pigment exceeds 10 parts by weight, the pigment will not be uniformly dispersed in the concentrate when the aerosol paint concentrate is prepared, and the quality stability of the final aerosol paint product may not be maintained. Here, the dispersion process refers to a series of processes for dispersing the pigment in the original solution using a dispersing machine or the like to make it into fine particles. By carrying out the dispersion process, the finely divided pigment can be stably present in the solution. When carrying out the dispersion process, the blending ratio of the pigment is not limited to 10.0 parts by weight or less, and can be arbitrarily designed as long as the present invention has excellent aerosol suitability and can provide a high level of coating film performance.

[0030] The additives according to the present invention are a general term for substances added for the purpose of improving the coating performance of aqueous aerosol paint concentrates and aqueous aerosol paints containing aqueous aerosol paint concentrates, and improving spray workability, such as sprayability (or atomization ability) and drying ability during spray painting. Specific examples of additives that may be considered include plasticizers, leveling agents, dispersants, defoamers, color-shift inhibitors, ultraviolet absorbers, antioxidants, surfactants, mildew inhibitors, preservatives, and antibacterial agents. There are no particular limitations on these additives as long as they are commonly used in the development of paint products and improve the coating performance or aerosol workability of the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate of the present invention and the aqueous aerosol paint containing the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate.

[0031] The water-based aerosol paint of the present invention is aerosolized using a propellant. Examples of the propellant include dimethyl ether (DME) and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), and it is preferable to use dimethyl ether. A propellant (preferably dimethyl ether) may be mixed with LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) for use. The blending ratio of the propellant according to the present invention is preferably 60 parts by weight or more and 95 parts by weight or less, and more preferably 70 parts by weight or more and 90 parts by weight or less, per 100 parts by weight of the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate. If the mixing ratio of the propellant is less than 60 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate, the sprayability (or atomization ability) will be poor when sprayed as an aerosol paint, and a coating with a poor appearance may be formed. If the mixing ratio of the propellant exceeds 95 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate, it may become difficult to obtain a sufficient coating thickness when applied, and as a result, it may not be possible to produce a coating having the coating performance desired in this invention.

[0032] The aqueous aerosol paint concentrate of the present invention and the aqueous aerosol paint containing the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate are developed and designed so that the average particle size of the resin in a state dispersed in a solvent (dispersion state) is 75 nm to 250 nm, preferably 100 nm to 200 nm. If the average particle size is less than 75 nm or more than 250 nm, the spray workability during application and the appearance of the finished coating film may deteriorate. The aqueous aerosol paint concentrate of the present invention and the aqueous aerosol paint containing the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate have been developed by modifying the resin to improve the coating performance, and by diligently developing the resin so as to maintain its aerosol suitability even after modification. By modifying the resin, the average particle size of the resin in the dispersion solution became much larger than the particle size of the resin in the dispersion solution normally used in aerosol paints. This allows a larger amount of resin to be applied to the target object in one coat compared to conventional aerosol paints, and also allows the desired film thickness (i.e., a film thickness that can guarantee the desired coating performance) to be achieved with fewer coats. Furthermore, since the dispersion resin according to the present invention is modified on the premise of imparting the functions required for a coating material (for example, improved coating film performance such as weather resistance, water resistance, peel resistance, and chemical resistance), the resulting modified resin often has high functionality as a coating material. In other words, the present invention is an invention that allows any user to aim to produce a highly functional coating film by increasing the average particle size while maintaining or improving the ease of handling of conventional aerosol paints.

[0033] The average particle size according to the present invention is measured by a particle size distribution measurement method, such as a geometric particle size measurement method using an optical microscope or an electron microscope, a kinetic (inertial force) measurement method using a cascade impactor to collect particles, a measurement method using an electrostatic particle size analyzer (EAA) by electrical mobility, a measurement method using a light scattering method using a particle counter, a measurement method using a diffusion battery by diffusion deposition, a measurement method using a condensation nucleus counter (CNC) by adiabatic expansion, etc. The average particle size according to the present invention is measured by a kinetic (inertial) measurement method using a cascade impactor to collect particles.

[0034] The aqueous aerosol paint concentrate according to the present invention and the aqueous aerosol paint containing the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate also have excellent storage stability, because the surface of the resin is designed to be easily solubilized in water and the filler gas (or propellant).

[0035] In the present invention, the term "about" refers to an error of within 10% in a given number. For example, when a value is stated as "approximately 100," the value is within the range of "90 to 110." For example, if there is a description of "approximately 200", the number indicates a range of "180 to 220". EXAMPLES

[0036] The effects of the present invention will be made clearer by showing examples of the present invention, comparative examples and test results below.

[0037] 135 ml of the aerosol paint concentrate of Examples 1 to 7 described below (the amount of the aerosol paint concentrate at this time is about 100 parts by weight) was filled into an aerosol tin can, and then 165 ml of dimethyl ether was sealed in as a propellant to prepare an aerosol paint (the amount of dimethyl ether at this time is about 80 parts by weight). This aerosol paint was applied to a wooden test board in four layers (i.e., the aerosol paint was sprayed twice back and forth against the test board) and dried. The following performance tests were performed on the resulting coating film. The thickness of the resulting coating film was about 30 μm to 40 μm. At the same time, the average particle size of the aerosol paint concentrate and its compatibility with gas, as well as the storage stability of the aerosol paint, were also tested as described below.

[0038] (Average particle size) The average particle size according to the present invention was determined by a kinetic (inertial) measurement method by collecting particles using a cascade impactor. (Gas compatibility) The aerosol paint concentrate and the propellant were mixed, and when the solution was visually homogeneous, it was marked with an ⊚, and when the two were completely incompatible, it was marked with an x. (Sprayability) The aerosol was applied for 10 seconds, and the state of the mist was visually observed. The mist state that was acceptable for an aerosol paint was rated as ◎, ○, or △, in order of normality, while the mist state that was problematic for an aerosol paint, such as a coarse mist, was rated ×. (Appearance of the coating) The coatings were visually inspected and were rated as ⊚, ◯, and △ from those without problems, and × from those with problems. (Paint dripping) The aerosol was applied in one go until the base was completely covered, and the test panel was then stood vertically and the degree of dripping was observed. Those that did not drip the aerosol paint and were normal were rated as ◎, ◯, and △, and those that dripped the aerosol paint were rated as ×. (Storage stability) The test was carried out according to the method of JIS K 5600 2-7 as follows. The samples were placed in a container, sealed, and stored at 45°C for six months, then returned to room temperature, and the condition inside the container, the paintability and the appearance of the coating film were checked and judged for any changes, and the degree of corrosion of the container was judged. Those that showed no abnormality were rated ◎, ○, △, and those that showed a significant difference compared to before storage were rated ×. (weather resistance) Tested using the JIS K 5600 7-7 method (xenon lamp method). (Coating thickness: approx. 30μm to 40μm) Those that showed no abnormality were rated as ◎, ○, and △, and those that showed a significant difference compared to before irradiation were rated ×. (water resistance) A coating was sprayed onto a wood test board (150 mm x 70 mm x 4.0 mm thick) to a thickness of about 30 μm to 40 μm, and then dried at room temperature for 7 days to produce a coating film. After that, a few drops of water were dropped onto the coating film using a dropper, and the appearance of the coating film after 24 hours was observed. Those without abnormalities were rated as ◎, ○, and △, and those in which the coating film peeled off or obvious stains remained on the coating film and the gloss of the coating film could no longer be confirmed were rated ×. (Alkaline resistance) A coating was sprayed onto a wood test board (150mm x 70mm x 4.0mm thick) to a thickness of about 30μm to 40μm, and then dried at room temperature for 7 days to produce a coating film. A dropper was then used to drip a few drops of saturated calcium hydroxide solution onto the coating film, and the appearance of the coating film was observed after 24 hours. Those without abnormalities were rated as ◎, ○, and △, and those in which the coating film peeled off or obvious stains remained on the coating film and the coating film's luster could no longer be confirmed were rated ×. (non-adhesive) A wooden test board (150mm x 70mm x 4.0mm thick) was spray-painted to a coating thickness of approximately 30μm to 40μm, and after drying at room temperature for 7 days, five layers of gauze were stacked, a 500g weight was placed in the center of the gauze, and left at 40℃ for 4 hours, after which the gauze was pulled away from the coating surface and the degree of adhesion between the coating surface and the gauze and the traces of the fabric on the coating surface were checked. Those with no adhesion or traces of the fabric were marked with ◎, those with either ○, and those with both were marked with ×. (Flexible) The steel test plate (150mm x 50mm x 0.6mm thick) on which the coating was applied was bent 90 degrees, and the condition of the coating after bending was rated as ◎, ○, △, from those without abnormalities, and × for those in which the coating was completely cracked.

[0039] The compounding ratios of the aerosol paint concentrates of Examples 1 to 7 (Table 1) and the test results including the comparative examples (Table 2) are as follows. The dispersion resins listed in the compounding ratio of the aerosol paint concentrate (Table 1) are as follows: Acrylic modified alkyd resin 1 Watersol WNW-524 (DIC Corporation) Acrylic modified alkyd resin 2 Watersol WPW-601 (DIC Corporation) Acrylic modified alkyd resin 3 Watersol BCD-3040 (DIC Corporation) Alkyd 1 (unmodified) This is the same alkyd resin as acrylic modified alkyd resin 1, but has not been modified with acrylic resin. Comparative Example 1, Comparative Example 2, and Comparative Example 3 used as comparative examples of the present invention are as follows. Comparative Example 1 When using an acrylic resin with a molecular weight similar to that of acrylic modified alkyd resin 1. Comparative Example 2 When using a urethane resin with a molecular weight similar to that of acrylic modified alkyd resin 1. Comparative Example 3 When using a water-based multi-purpose spray (water-soluble acrylic resin manufactured by Asahipen Co., Ltd.), the film thickness is approximately 15μm to 25μm by applying four coats (i.e. spraying the aerosol paint twice back and forth on the test panel).

[0040] [Table 1]

[0041] [Table 2]

[0042] Using the aerosol paint concentrate used in Example 1, the blending ratio of the propellant was examined as follows. Aerosol paints were prepared from the aerosol paint stock solution of Example 1 while changing the blending ratio of the propellant (referred to as Ratio Example 1 to Ratio Example 4, respectively). Each of the prepared aerosol paints was applied to a wooden test board in four layers (i.e., the aerosol paint was sprayed twice back and forth on the test board) and then dried. Regarding the application of the aerosol paint at this time, we evaluated whether the aerosol paint could be sprayed sufficiently uniformly as aerosol particles and applied to the test board (atomization ability). The thickness of the resulting coating film was measured, with the target thickness being approximately 30 μm to 40 μm. The test results obtained are shown below as the test results for the blend ratio of the aerosol paint, and the atomization property and film thickness (Table 3).

[0043] [Table 3]

[0044] Considering the test results in Table 2, acrylic modified alkyd resin 1 exhibited better aerosol suitability and coating performance than comparative example 3 when the resin solid content was in the range of 25 to 35 parts by weight (Examples 1 to 3). It was confirmed that the acrylic and urethane had significantly worse compatibility with gas and spray workability than the acrylic-modified alkyd resin 1 and Comparative Example 3 (Comparative Examples 1 to 2). Therefore, it was determined that the aerosol suitability of the acrylic and urethane was inferior to that of the acrylic-modified alkyd resin 1 and Comparative Example 3, and other aerosol suitability and coating film performance were not checked. It was shown that the use of butyl cellosolve as a co-solvent was superior to the use of alcohol (1-propanol) in terms of aerosol suitability, particularly in terms of paint sagging (Example 4). It was shown that when modification with acrylic resin was not performed, the weather resistance was worse than that of Comparative Example 3 (Example 5). It was confirmed that acrylic-modified alkyd resin 2 and acrylic-modified alkyd resin 3 had reduced spray workability and deteriorated coating appearance compared to acrylic-modified alkyd resin 1 and Comparative Example 3 (Examples 6 to 7). Therefore, it was determined that acrylic-modified alkyd resin 2 and acrylic-modified alkyd resin 3 were inferior to acrylic-modified alkyd resin 1 and Comparative Example 3 in aerosol suitability, and coating performance was not confirmed. In addition, since the average particle size in Example 6 was 50 nm to 100 nm and the average particle size in Example 7 was 200 nm to 300 nm, it was determined that, as one condition for achieving good aerosol suitability, it is preferable to prepare the particles so that the average particle size is 100 nm to 200 nm.

[0045] Considering the test results in Table 3, when the propellant was 70-90 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the aerosol paint concentrate, the atomization was good and the film thickness was within the target range (approximately 30 μm-40 μm). When the propellant was 110 parts by weight, the target film thickness (approximately 30 μm-40 μm) could not be fully achieved.

[0046] From the above, the obtained test results (Tables 2 and 3) show that the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate of the present invention and the aqueous aerosol paint containing the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate have improved coating film performance while maintaining aerosol suitability, compared to the results of Comparative Examples 1 to 3. Specifically, acrylic-modified alkyd resin 1 exhibited better aerosol suitability and coating performance than comparative example 3 when the resin solids content was in the range of 25 to 35 parts by weight and the average particle size was in the range of 100 to 200 nm, and it was shown that it is desirable to use it as an aerosol paint in which the propellant is 70 to 90 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the aerosol paint concentrate. [Industrial Applicability]

[0047] The aqueous aerosol paint concentrate according to the present invention and the aqueous aerosol paint containing the aqueous aerosol paint concentrate are useful for use as household paints and industrial paints. There is no limitation on the substrate to be coated, but coating on wood is particularly suitable.
