Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present invention relates to a personal care device, in particular a hair removal device such as an electric razor, comprising an elongated handle for manually moving the personal care device along a body surface and a working head attached to the handle for applying a personal care treatment to the body surface, wherein an adjustment device including at least one adjustment actuator is provided for adjusting treatment properties of the personal care device, such as the adaptability of the working head. [Background technology]

[0002] Personal care devices are widely used to apply different kinds of personal care treatments to users, and such personal care devices may include hair removal devices such as hair removers, shavers, or razors, which may be powered or manual and / or wet or dry, or beard trimmers. Furthermore, other personal care devices include powered or manual toothbrushes, interdental cleaning devices or gum massage devices, or skin treatment devices such as massage devices or vibrating devices. All such personal care devices suffer from the problem that different users use the personal care devices in different ways and different users have different preferences for the mechanical settings of the personal care devices.

[0003] In a more general sense, some users tend to press the working head rather hard against the body surface, while others apply rather light pressure. Some users tend to move the working head over the body surface rather quickly with short strokes, while others apply slower speeds and longer strokes. Depending on the user's habits and preferences, the working head should provide a softer, or more controllable, or more firm user feel, which requires different mobility characteristics of the suspension that allows the movement of the working head relative to the handle of the working head element relative to the working head base and / or the mechanical device.

[0004] It may also be desirable to vary the mobility characteristics when using the personal care device in different treatment modes in different shaving situations or on different body parts: for example, when shaving the upper lip area under the nose, short strokes are actuated and more control is desired, so the stiffness of the working head needs to be increased, whereas shaving the area around the cheek or Adam's apple may require less stiffness and / or a wider pivot / rotation range to achieve a better contour fit.

[0005] To allow contouring, i.e., adaptation of the skin-contacting surface of the working head to the contours of the body part to be treated, the suspension of the working head relative to the handle and / or the suspension of the working head elements relative to the working head base may allow various types of movement of the working head and the working head elements, respectively, such as rotational movement and / or linear movement thereof. More specifically, the working head may tilt and / or rotate relative to the elongated handle, with the tilt axis and the rotation axis extending substantially parallel to the skin-contacting surface of the working head and extending transversely relative to each other. Additionally or alternatively, the working head may dive or float relative to the handle along a dive substantially perpendicular to the skin-contacting surface and / or substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the handle. Similarly, the working head elements, such as the shear foil cartridge of a razor, may tilt and / or rotate and / or dive relative to the working head frame or the working head base to allow adaptation to the skin contours.

[0006] To meet different user habits and preferences, the suspension of the working head and / or the suspension of the working head elements relative to the working head base may be adjusted to change the characteristics of the adjustment movement of the working head and / or the working head elements. For example, the tilt and / or rotation and / or dive stiffness may be increased or decreased to provide a more controllable / stiffer (or more aggressive) or softer characteristic of the adjustment movement. Furthermore, the tilt and / or rotation range in terms of maximum rotational and / or linear displacement may also be changed.

[0007] For example, EP 3546153 B1 shows an electric shaver having a pivotable suspension of the working head to enable pivoting of the working head relative to the handle and a diving suspension of the shear foil cartridge to enable diving of the shear foil cartridge relative to the working head frame. The pivot stiffness of the working head and the diving stiffness of the shear foil cartridge are controlled by mechanical springs that can be adjusted by an actuator to increase or decrease the pivot stiffness and the diving stiffness for a particular pivot angle and a torque and force required to achieve a particular diving displacement. Furthermore, an adjustment mechanism is configured to adjust the pivot angle range of the working head to enable a larger or smaller maximum angular displacement.

[0008] A similar adjustability of the working head of an electric shaver is shown by EP 3546152 (B1).

[0009] Another option for adjusting the treatment properties is adjusting the cutting length of the hair trimmer, for example document WO 2018 / 069265 A1 discloses a hair trimmer comprising an adjustment actuator for adjusting the cutting length of the trimmer. [0010] [Patent Document 1] European Patent No. 3546153(B1) [Patent Document 2] European Patent No. 3546152(B1) [Patent Document 3] International Publication No. 2018 / 069265(A1) Summary of the Invention [Means for solving the problem]

[0011] The object underlying the present invention is to provide an improved personal care device which avoids at least one of the drawbacks of the prior art and / or further develops existing solutions. A more specific object underlying the present invention is to provide the user with improved adjustment of the personal care device to change the context of use.

[0012] Another objective underlying the present invention is to achieve self-adaptation of a personal care device to the user's habits and preferences and / or treatment conditions in a manner that is comfortable for the user and at the same time efficiently improves the treatment process.

[0013] A further objective underlying the present invention is to provide an improved personal care device that quickly achieves conformity to various body surface contours and treatment areas without irritation to the user.

[0014] A still further objective underlying the present invention is to achieve efficient self-regulation with reduced energy consumption and lightweight structure to improve handling of the personal care device due to its lighter weight in handling.

[0015] In order to achieve at least one of the above-mentioned objects, it is suggested to provide an adjustment actuator configured and controlled to achieve a smooth transition between different settings of a processing characteristic. More specifically, the adjustment actuator may be configured and controlled to adjust the processing characteristic from a first setting to a second setting within a time period of 0.1 seconds or more and 1.5 seconds or less. Advantageously, the adjustment actuator may be configured and controlled to achieve a transition between two settings within a time period of 0.15 seconds or more and 0.5 seconds or less, or a transition time of 0.15 seconds or more and 0.25 seconds or less.

[0016] The above objectives are also achieved by a personal care device, in particular a hair removal device such as an electric razor, comprising an elongated handle for manually moving the personal care device along a body surface, a working head attached to the handle, and at least one working head element for applying a personal care treatment to the body surface, wherein an adjusting device including at least one adjustment actuator is provided for adjusting at least one treatment characteristic.

[0017] In order to achieve the desired smooth transition between different settings of the treatment characteristics, the adjustment actuator is operated with a limited rate of change, so that the transition from one state, such as "soft", to another state, such as "hard", occurs within a well-defined time. On the other hand, the transition should not be too fast, since an immediate change may disturb the user or the user experience may be considered unpleasant. On the other hand, the transition must be fast enough to reach the desired setting of the treatment characteristics in response to the variation of the treatment area and / or the change of the way of using the personal care device, such as changing from a short stroke to a long stroke.

[0018] When the personal care device is moved along the body surface in a reciprocating manner, the adjustment actuator may be configured and controlled to effect a transition of the treatment characteristic from a first setting to a second setting within a transition time not exceeding the time taken for one or two strokes.

[0019] The adjustment actuator may be configured to allow operation at different speeds and the control unit for controlling the adjustment actuator may be configured to vary the transition time spent on the adjustment, i.e. the transition time from the first setting to the second setting, depending on the user habits and / or preferences and / or the operating situation. For example, when changing from the use of a long stroke to the use of a short stroke, it may be advantageous to provide a transition from a softer working head configuration to a harder working head configuration within a shorter transition time, e.g. within 0.15-0.20 seconds, whereas when changing from a short stroke operation to a long stroke operation, it may be advantageous to transition from a harder setting to a softer setting within a longer transition time, e.g. 0.20-0.25 seconds.

[0020] To make the transition smooth, but nevertheless rapid, it may be advantageous to provide a non-constant transition speed over the transition time and / or to configure and / or control the adjustment actuator to operate at a non-constant speed, for example the transition speed may be reduced in the early stages of the transition and / or at the end stages of the transition, while the transition speed may be increased in intermediate stages of the transition.

[0021] To allow easy, yet precise control, the adjustment actuators may be under the control of an electronic control unit and / or may respond to electronic control commands.

[0022] For example, the adjustment actuator may include an electric motor capable of displacing an adjustment element, such as a spring bearing of a spring element that affects the stiffness of the movable working head and / or the range limiter, and a gearing may be provided between said electric motor and the adjustment element to transmit the driving movement of the electric motor to the adjustment element. Such an electric motor, which may be combined with a gear box, allows easy and precise control of the adjustment movement and at the same time allows easy variation of the transition speed.

[0023] Additionally or alternatively, the adjustment actuator may also include a smart material that changes material properties in response to a control signal and / or in response to predefined ambient conditions to control the adjustment.

[0024] For example, the adjustment actuator may include a smart fluid that changes its viscosity when in response to a magnetic and / or electric field; such smart fluid can cooperate with the adjustment element to change its resistance to displacement.

[0025] Additionally or alternatively, the adjustment actuator may include a smart metal, such as a bimetal, that changes its shape when subjected to heating and / or cooling.

[0026] The adjustment actuators may vary various treatment characteristics. In particular, the adaptability of the working head and / or working head elements may be adjusted, for example, the mobility of the working head relative to the handle and / or mobility of the working head elements relative to the working head base to allow for adaptation of the personal care device to the body surface being treated. More specifically, the rotational and / or linear stiffness and / or range of rotational and / or linear displacement of the working head and / or working head elements may be adjusted by the adjustment actuators.

[0027] The personal care device may include a main drive unit for driving the main functional assemblies, such as, for example, a drive motor for driving the cutting tools of a razor. The adjustment actuators may be distinct from and / or in addition to such main drive unit.

[0028] For example, the working head of the personal care device may be movably supported relative to its handle and / or may include working head elements movably supported relative to the working head base, allowing the working head and / or elements of the working head to adapt to a body contact contour, while at least one adjustment actuator may adjust the rotational stiffness and / or linear displacement stiffness of the working head and / or working head elements. More specifically, the adjustment actuator may be configured to vary the movement resistance of the movable working head and / or the movable working head elements depending on the movement speed and / or the angle and / or the linear position of the working head and / or working head elements. The movement speed should be understood here as the speed, linearity or rotation of the working head elements relative to the working head or of the working head relative to the handle of the device. The movement resistance thus relates to the force or torque of this relative movement between different parts of the device. For example, a graph may define a relationship between the force and / or torque required to move the working head and / or working head elements, and the speed of movement may be varied by the actuator to, for example, increase or decrease the force and / or torque required to move the working head and / or working head elements at a particular speed relative to the handle and / or working head base. For example, if the working head is suspended in a tilt and / or rotational manner, the force and / or torque required to tilt and / or rotate the working head at a certain rotational speed may be increased or decreased to achieve a higher or lower rotational stiffness, and different rotational stiffness may be provided for different rotational speeds.

[0029] More specifically, the adjustment actuator for varying the resistance to movement as a function of the speed of movement as described above, or for varying the force or torque of the mobility of the working head or working head element, may be configured to adjust and / or change the shape of a graph defining the resistance to movement versus the speed of movement (or the forces and torques applied for mobility) of the working head and / or working head element, for example, may be configured to change the curvature of such a graph, and / or may be configured to change the shape of such a graph from linear to non-linear, and / or may be configured to change the ratio of linear to non-linear portions, and / or may be configured to change the slope of a particular portion.

[0030] Such an adjustment actuator for varying the resistance to movement depending on the speed of movement may include a viscose type friction device, which may include a fluid pusher to push the viscose fluid out when moving. To adjust the resistance to movement, a smart viscose fluid may be used, configured to change its viscosity when subjected to a magnetic field and / or an electric field or voltage to allow rapid changes in viscosity to allow adjustment within the current shaving situation.

[0031] Such a viscose friction device may provide a resistance to movement that increases with the speed of movement.

[0032] More specifically, such a viscose friction device may include an adjustable damper configured to provide varying damping forces.

[0033] According to yet another aspect, at least one adjustment actuator may be provided to vary the shape of a graph defining the restoring force and / or restoring torque of the restoring device for rotational and / or linear displacement of the working head and / or working head elements from a linear shape to a curved shape, and / or the ratio of linear to non-linear portions of said graph.

[0034] More specifically, the restoring device for biasing the working head and / or working head elements toward the desired neutral position may include at least one leaf spring connected to the working head and / or working head elements, and the adjustment actuator may be configured to vary the effective length of such leaf spring. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0036] As will become apparent from the figure, it is suggested to provide an adjustment actuator that is configured and controlled to achieve a smooth transition between different settings of the processing characteristic. More specifically, the adjustment actuator may be configured and controlled to adjust the processing characteristic from a first setting to a second setting within a time period of 0.1 seconds or more and 1.5 seconds or less. Advantageously, the adjustment actuator may be configured and controlled to achieve a transition between the two settings within a time period of 0.15 seconds or more and 0.5 seconds or less, or a transition time of 0.15 seconds or more and 0.25 seconds or less.

[0037] In order to achieve the desired smooth transition between different settings of treatment characteristics, the adjustment actuator is operated with a limited rate of change, so that the transition from one state, such as "soft", to another state, such as "hard", occurs within a well-defined time. On the other hand, the transition should not be too fast, since an immediate change may disturb the user. On the other hand, the transition must be fast enough to obtain a setting of treatment characteristics that is largely accompanied by a change in the treatment area and / or a change in the way of using the personal care device, such as a change from a short stroke to a long stroke.

[0038] When the personal care device is moved along the body surface in a reciprocating manner, the adjustment actuator may be configured and controlled to effect a transition of the treatment characteristic from a first setting to a second setting within one or two strokes.

[0039] The adjustment actuator may be configured to allow operation at different speeds and the control unit for controlling the adjustment actuator may be configured to vary the transition time spent on the adjustment, i.e. the transition time from the first setting to the second setting, depending on the user habits and / or preferences and / or the operating situation.

[0040] To make the transition smooth, but nevertheless rapid, it may be advantageous to provide a non-constant transition speed over the transition time and / or to configure and / or control the adjustment actuator to operate at a non-constant speed, for example the transition speed may be reduced in the early stages of the transition and / or at the end stages of the transition, while the transition speed may be increased in intermediate stages of the transition.

[0041] For the user, several advantages are associated with the well-controlled change of the described conditions. - The behavior of the device appears to be less erratic compared to devices with actuators that appear to jump. The velocity of the actuator may be recorded by a sensor and learned by an algorithm during processing, so that it may be further adapted to the behavior of a particular user. Examples of such quantities may be the amount of strokes per unit time or the average velocity of the personal care device over the body surface. ● The device characteristics change smoothly, and the user does not feel the process of the change itself, but only the new device adjustment is made. ● When the action of the adjustment actuator is associated with movement, in particular contour-adapting actions such as rotating the working head and / or its elements, avoid any sudden movements and, as a consequence, also unwanted mechanical impacts on the skin. - Any unexpected vibration of the handle during any sudden rapid operation can be avoided. • Actuators with limited speed can be built with lower power compared to faster actuators. Because engine volume and power are strongly correlated, the device, especially its handle, can be built with a smaller and more attractive design.

[0042] Some advantages and simplifications may also be found in the actuator if it is allowed to move to a new position for a significant amount of time. • An actuator may deliver some mechanical energy during its movement and therefore may require less drive power, for example at a given voltage and less current. If the actuator has more time for its movement, less power is required to achieve the same total mechanical energy. ● Slower / smaller actuators are cheaper than larger, faster and more powerful actuators. A slower actuator requires less force to accelerate the parts involved, which translates into less wear on the mechanism.

[0043] To allow easy, yet precise control, the adjustment actuators may be under the control of an electronic control unit and / or may respond to electronic control commands.

[0044] For example, the adjustment actuator may include an electric motor capable of displacing an adjustment element, such as a spring bearing of a spring element that affects the stiffness of the movable working head and / or the range limiter, and a gearing may be provided between said electric motor and the adjustment element to transmit the driving movement of the electric motor to the adjustment element. Such an electric motor, which may be combined with a gear box, allows easy and precise control of the adjustment movement and at the same time allows easy variation of the transition speed.

[0045] Additionally or alternatively, the adjustment actuator may also include a smart material that changes material properties in response to a control signal and / or in response to predefined ambient conditions to control the adjustment.

[0046] For example, the adjustment actuator may include a smart fluid that changes its viscosity when it responds to a magnetic field and / or an electric field, and such smart fluid may cooperate with the adjustment element to change its displacement resistance. Such an adjustment actuator may be provided to change the movement resistance depending on the movement speed and / or may include a viscose type friction device, which may include a fluid pusher to push the viscose fluid during movement. To adjust the movement resistance, a smart viscose fluid may be used that is configured to change its viscosity when subjected to a magnetic field and / or an electric current to allow a rapid change in viscosity to allow adjustment during one round of personal care treatment. Such a viscose friction device may provide a movement resistance that increases with the movement speed. More specifically, such a viscose friction device may include an adjustable damper configured to provide different damping forces.

[0047] Additionally or alternatively, the adjustment actuator may include a smart metal, such as a bimetal, that changes its shape when subjected to heating and / or cooling.

[0048] According to another aspect, at least one adjustment actuator may be provided that varies the breakage-resistant reaction and / or braking resistance of the working head and / or working head elements regardless of their direction. In contrast to a biasing device, such as a preloaded spring, that biases the working head towards a particular position, such braking resistance reacts and / or brakes the working head and / or working head elements moving in either direction. In other words, the direction of the braking force changes depending on the direction of movement of the working head and / or working head elements, and always reacts to such movement.

[0049] Additionally or alternatively, the adjustment device may include a restoring device for biasing the working head and / or working head elements towards a desired neutral position, such restoring device may include at least one spring element, such as a leaf spring, connected to the working head and / or working head elements, and the adjustment actuator may be configured to vary the effective length of such leaf spring.

[0050] 1, the personal care device 20 comprises an elongated handle 2 that is gripped by the fingers of a user to move the personal care device 20 along the body surface to be treated. The handle 2 may form a housing that can accommodate the functional and / or structural components of the personal care device 20, for example an energy storage device such as a battery, a drive motor and / or a control unit for controlling the functions such as a microprocessor having a program memory connected thereto.

[0051] The working head 1 supported on the handle 2 includes one or more working head elements 7 for carrying out the treatment. In the case of the razor shown in the figures, the working head elements 7 may include hair-cutting elements such as shearing foil cartridges and / or rake-like trimmers, see Figure 2.

[0052] The working head element 7 may define a skin contacting surface 17 of the working head 1, which may extend substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the handle 2 or may be inclined thereto, depending on the rotational position of the working head 1. For example, the skin contacting surface 17 may be formed by the distal end side of the working head 1.

[0053] As shown by Figures 1 and 2, the working head 1 may be supported on the handle 2 in a movable manner by a suspension 18, which allows the working head 1 to be rotated and / or linearly displaced relative to the handle 2. For example, the suspension 18 may allow rotation 3 of the working head 1 about a rotation axis 4, see Figure 2, and / or tilt 5 of the working head 1 about a tilt axis 6, see Figure 2. The rotation axis 4 and the tilt axis 6 may extend substantially perpendicular to each other and / or substantially parallel to the aforementioned skin contact surface 17, see Figure 2.

[0054] In addition to, or as an alternative to, such rotational mobility, the working head 1 may also be linearly displaced relative to the handle 2, for example along a displacement axis substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the handle 2, such that the working head 1 as a whole may dive or float when the skin contact surface 17 is pressed against a body surface.

[0055] In addition to, or as an alternative to, the mobility of the work head 1 as a whole, one or more work heads 7, such as the shear foil cartridges discussed above, may be movably supported relative to the work head base 10 by a suspension 19. The work head base 10 may form a frame-like structure that may rotate and / or tilt relative to the handle 2 in the manner discussed above, whereby additional mobility of the work head elements 7 may be superimposed on the mobility of the work head base 10.

[0056] For example, the working head element 7 may be linearly displaced along a displacement axis 8 that may extend substantially perpendicular to the skin contact surface 17, such that the working head element 7 may dive or float when subjected to skin contact pressure. In addition to, or as an alternative to, such linear diving, the suspension 19 of the working head element 7 may also enable rotational movement of the working head element 7 relative to the working head base 10 to enable the working head element 7 to conform to the skin contours. In particular, the working head element 7 may tilt along a tilt axis parallel to the tilt axis 6 of the working head 1.

[0057] The adaptation of the working head 1 and / or working head elements 7 to the skin contour may be controlled by an adaptation controller 24, which may include one or more mechanisms and / or actuators and / or mechanical controllers that affect one or more of the aforementioned actions.

[0058] For example, as shown in Fig. 3, the adaptive controller 24 may include a restoring device 25 that applies a restoring force and / or torque to the working head 1 to urge the working head 1 towards a neutral or starting position, which may be an intermediate position to which the working head 1 may move in the opposite direction. Alternatively, the neutral or starting position may be an end position in a rotation or tilt range. For example, the restoring device 25 may be configured to urge the working head 1 towards a neutral pivot position about the rotation axis 4.

[0059] The restoring device 25 may comprise a leaf spring 31 connected or rigidly fixed to the work head base 10 in such a way that a rotation 3 of the work head 1 causes the leaf spring 31 to pivot and thus bend. As can be seen in figure 5, the leaf spring 31 is also connected to the handle 2 or a structural element fixed to the handle 2 by a spring bearing 32 which limits the rotational movement of the leaf spring 31 due to the rotation of the work head 1.

[0060] In order to adjust the restoring force and / or restoring torque of the leaf spring 31, the effective length 33 of the leaf spring 31 may be adjusted, for example, the above-mentioned spring bearing 32 may be displaced in a direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the leaf spring 31. For example, the spring bearing 32 may be displaced in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the handle 2 to change the effective length 33 of the leaf spring 31, as shown in FIG.

[0061] The displacement of the spring bearing 32 may be effected by an adjustment actuator 35, which may be controlled by the aforementioned control unit. For example, the actuator 35 may include a motor 36, such as an electric motor, connected to the displaceable spring bearing 32 via a drive train or a connector or a transmitter 34 that transmits the driving action of the motor 36 to the spring bearing 32. The motor 36 may be a DC motor.

[0062] For example, gearing 37 may be provided between the drive shaft of motor 36 and transmitter 34 to, for example, convert movement of the rotary drive shaft into a substantially linear displacement of spring bearing 32 .

[0063] Advantageously, the rate of change of the acting element with respect to the displaceable spring bearing 32 can be understood as the speed of an actuator mechanism, which may move from one position to another within a transition time that is not perceived as a sudden disturbance movement.

[0064] As can be seen in FIG. 4, an electronic control unit 39, which may include a microprocessor and a memory unit for storing control software, may drive the motor 36 via suitable power electronics.

[0065] The combination of the controller and suitable electronics may be constructed to drive the motor 36 in both directions and at variable speeds. Many solutions exist for such a setup, such as the use of a so-called H-bridge driver and a pulse-width modulated motor voltage.

[0066] The motor current may be measured by the controller, which may be done via a shunt resistor, i.e. a resistor through which the motor current flows, and measuring the voltage across this resistor.

[0067] The gearing 37 may be constructed with cogwheels. Likewise, the gearing may be constructed differently, but may include, for example, worm gears, or harmonic drive type gearing, see Fig. 5. At least one of the gears may allow for preventing operation without actuation, which allows for self-shutdown of the gears.

[0068] The last stage 38 of the gearing may drive a transmitter such as a lever 34 attached to some connector such as a leaf spring 32, or more generally an element that allows adjusting the characteristics of the head, such as the range limiter shown in Figure 5. The element could also be a spring attached to some points of the pivotable head and that adjusts its stiffness against rotation.

[0069] Different states and positions of the lever 34 correspond to different values of head stiffness.

[0070] The positions of the lever 34 include two end positions, a lower position and an upper position, and may include further positions therebetween.

[0071] Advantageously, the adjustment actuator may be stopped and held at various positions, including at least one intermediate position between two end positions, to allow fine adjustment. More specifically, the adjustment actuator may be continuously and / or stepwise operated and stopped at various desired positions to provide a continuous and / or stepwise adaptation of the process characteristics.

[0072] The lower position may be used to adjust the head to a low stiffness, see FIG. 3, and the upper position may be used to adjust the head to a high stiffness.

[0073] A detection device for detecting the end position of the lever 34 can be provided, which may include one or more of the following: o End switches 115, 116 in lower and upper positions. A lower and upper mechanical limit of the lever 34, which if the lever reaches such limits generates a force that may then result in an increase in torque and an increase in current in the motor 36. The increased current can be measured via the aforementioned shunt resistor. Position sensors for detecting end and / or intermediate positions.

[0074] To drive the lever 34 to one of the end positions, the controller may drive the motor in the corresponding direction until the end position is detected.

[0075] To drive the lever 34 from an end position to an intermediate position, the controller drives the motor in the desired direction for a defined amount of time. The defined amount of time is derived from the required travel distance and the speed of the lever. This speed can be considered constant or, for better accuracy, can be estimated via the motor current. A higher current corresponds to a slower motor speed.

[0076] To further improve the smoothness of the transitions between states, the controller increases the speed of the motor 36 at a defined rate at the beginning of the motion, and similarly decelerates the motor at a defined rate at the end, thus avoiding any abrupt starting or stopping of the motor 36.

[0077] 8, a transition with a constant speed corresponds to curve 30 in FIG 8, whereas a smoother transition with a defined rate of speed increase corresponds to curve 31, the slope of which changes gradually rather than in steps. For determining the position of lever 34 in the intermediate position, a non-constant but variable speed may be taken into account.

[0078] 3, the restoring device 35 may be configured such that said leaf spring 31 is unbiased and / or straight when the working head 1 is in its neutral position, and therefore no torque and / or restoring force is applied to the working head 1 when it is subsequently in the neutral position. In other words, substantially no torque and / or force is required to initiate the displacement of the working head 1 from its neutral position, and the rotation 3 may be initiated with substantially zero resistance at the neutral position.

[0079] Depending on the configuration of the restoring device 25, different restoring characteristics may be provided. For example, the rotation and / or tilt torque may be increased by increasing the rotation angle and / or tilt angle in a non-linear manner. The larger the rotation angle or tilt angle, the more rapid the increase in torque may be. If the effective length 33 is reduced, the rotation stiffness increases, but increasing the effective length 33 decreases the rotation stiffness. The torque characteristic may also be linear, where the resisting torque and / or restoring torque increases linearly with increasing rotation angle or tilt angle. Again, the rotation stiffness or tilt stiffness may be adjusted even in the case of a linear characteristic.

[0080] Also, different force characteristics may be provided for linear displacement of the working head 1 and / or working head elements 7, such as for a diving motion 8, as shown in FIG. 2. For example, a restoring device may be used, including a leaf spring similar to the restoring device 25, for example a leaf spring having its longitudinal axis arranged across the diving axis 8 so as to be deflected when the working head element dives. Again, by increasing and / or decreasing the effective length of such a leaf spring, adjustment of the diving stiffness may be achieved. Additionally or alternatively, other restoring devices may be used to affect the diving characteristics, including other types of springs, such as compression springs, for example a spring bearing may be displaced along the compression axis.

[0081] As shown in Figures 5-7, the contour-fitting movement of the work head 1 may also be controlled by a displacement range limiter 58 which may limit the maximum rotational and / or linear displacement available.

[0082] For example, as shown in FIG. 5, a displacement range limiter 58 may limit the maximum rotation 3 of the work head 1 .

[0083] In this embodiment, the actuators 50-54 are used to push the wedge 55 into the gap 56 at the bottom of the shaving head 1. Depending on how far the actuator moves the wedge into the gap along the direction 57, the rotation range is more or less restricted. In the lower position of the wedge 55, the pivoting rotation has a wide range. For an upwardly moving wedge, the range is narrowed until the pivoting rotation is completely blocked when the wedge moves to its upper mechanical limit. The head is then pushed into a predefined position. In detail, the adjustment actuator may function as follows: a motor 50, such as a DC motor, may rotate a gear 51, which drives a second gear 52. This gear 52 includes an internal thread 53 and is arranged on a threaded rod 54.

[0084] The threaded rod is moved up and down as soon as the motor 50 rotates. In summary, the minimum 41 and maximum 42 angles of head rotation can be adjusted with the help of the motor 50. Advantageously, the motor 50 may be stopped and held in intermediate positions to define an intermediate rotational displacement range that is narrower than the maximum range and wider than the minimum range (which may be greater than or equal to zero).

[0085] As can be seen from Figures 6 and 7, the adjustment actuator may include a smart material such as a bimetallic strip or bar to provide the adjustment movement of the adjustment element.

[0086] Basically, different types of smart materials may be used to implement the adjustment actuators, such as materials that change their properties under the influence of ambient conditions such as temperature, electric fields, magnetic fields, light, and / or chemicals.

[0087] For example, a setup is described that uses a material that changes shape with temperature.

[0088] A material component 120 may be selected that flexes differently depending on the temperature. It may be a bimetallic component.

[0089] As shown in Figure 6, such a part 120 may be a rod or bar and / or may be rigidly supported at one end to allow bending and / or deflection, thus allowing movement of the other end. As shown in Figure 6, in a first configuration, the smart material may bend to hold the lever 34 in its lowered position.

[0090] Heating may be applied to the bimetallic part 120 by activating some heating means such as an electrical resistor 121, through which an electric current may be forced to flow. By adjusting the electric current via the control unit 39, the temperature of the smart material part 120 is adjusted to a defined value. As a result, the bend changes shape in a temperature related manner.

[0091] Maximum current and maximum temperature will move lever 34 to the upper position (FIG. 7), less heating will move it to the intermediate position.

[0092] To the upper position, the limited speed is given by the thermal mass of the smart material component and the power used to heat it, and therefore only the time required to heat it up. To the lower positions, the limited speed is given by a combination of the thermal mass and cooling the smart material component experiences around it.

[0093] Another example of a setup using smart materials is shown in Figure 9. In this case, the difference between the different states of the mechanism is not a different position, but a difference in mechanical resistance or stiffness. Mechanical resistance may be understood as a quantity relating the force required to move a machine part with a velocity achieved by applying this force. It can also be understood as the ratio of such force to such velocity.

[0094] More specifically, as shown in Figure 9, the viscose type friction device 100 may include a fluid pusher for pushing out the viscose fluid when the working head 1 and / or the working head elements 7 move to conform to the body surface contour. To adjust the resistance of the fluid pusher depending on the speed, a smart viscose fluid may be used, configured to change its viscosity when subjected to a magnetic field and / or when subjected to an electric current.

[0095] More specifically, as shown in Figure 9, a connecting rod 101 moves an element 102 up and down in synchronism with the pivoting rotation of the head. This element 102 acts as an inner damping element. This inner damping element is located inside an outer damping element 103. The space between the inner damping and the outer damping is filled with a magnetic liquid 104. The magnetic liquid is located between the poles of an electromagnet consisting of an iron core 105 and one or more coils 106. The viscosity of the magnetic liquid 104 is modified with the aid of an electric current passing through the coil(s) 106.

[0096] Depending on the current, the coil(s) generate a magnetic field within the volume of the magnetic liquid 104. The higher the magnetic field, the higher the viscosity of the magnetic liquid. In turn, when the head rotates, a higher level of damping is perceived by the user. As the current through the coil 106 decreases, the characteristic reforms towards curve 31. In summary, the current through the coil 106 controls the torque required to rotate the head 1 at a particular rotation speed.

[0097] The strength of the electric field altering viscosity may be controlled by the electronic control unit 107 .

[0098] As a result, the mechanical resistance of the lever to vertical movement and, as a second result, the resistance of the head 1 to rotation 3 is also adjusted.

[0099] To achieve the aforementioned smooth transitions between the different states, the electric field is controlled to change at a defined rate.

[0100] In summary, there is a relationship between the rotational speed of the head 1 and the torque applied to this rotation. The electronic control 107 can adjust this relationship so that the head can pivot more or less easily and the transition is not perceived as an unexpected and sudden resistance. <<Other embodiments>> The present disclosure includes the following representative configurations.
