Description

BACKGROUND

[0001] A need has been recognized in the prior art for devices which affix a towel to a person's head. Apart from headwear commonly worn by adherents in certain religions, head towels to remove perspiration or grime, particularly from one's face and neck, while also providing protection from heat, dirt, sun, and the like, are known. Head towels can be worn during heavy physical labor, exercise, sports activities, sun tanning at, e.g, a beach, and other recreational endeavors.

[0002] An example of the prior art is U.S. Pat. No. 5,062,157, which describes a headband towel. According to this prior art reference, there is disclosed a cloth towel member, fitted with side strips attached at one end of the towel member so that, when that end is placed against one's forehead, the strips may be extended around one's head and finally fastened together to provide a firm fit.

[0003] Prior art patents including the example above, however, are not convenient when worn with a hat. Thus, there is a need in the art for improved means for attaching a towel to a hat.SUMMARY OF INVENTION

[0004] According to an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a system for attaching a towel to a hat, comprising: a hat; a towel; a first magnet arranged on the inner left side of the hat; a second magnet arranged on the outer left side of the hat; a third magnet arranged on the inner right side of the hat; a fourth magnet arranged on the outer right side of the hat, wherein: the left side of the towel and the left side of the hat are positioned between the first magnet and the second magnet; and the right side of the towel and the right side of the hat are positioned between the third magnet and the fourth magnet.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0008] FIG. 4 illustrates a person wearing a towel attached to a hat according to an embodiment.DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0009] FIG. 1 illustrates components of the system for attaching a towel to a hat according to an embodiment of the present invention.

[0010] Hat 1 is a baseball cap in the exemplary embodiment of FIG. 1 but could be another type of hat. Lower side of towel 3 is arranged to drop down to cover the neck of a wearer of an embodiment of the present invention. Upper side of towel 4 is arranged to attach to hat 1. Upper side of towel 4 may have a seam arranged near the top of the towel.

[0011] Magnet 2 is shown outside of the towel and the hat, i.e., sitting on a table. In this exemplary embodiment, magnet 2 is not sewn into the hat or the towel, but in other embodiments magnet 2 may be arranged differently. Magnet 2 could be placed on the inner left side of the hat once the wearer is ready to attach the towel according to the embodiment.

[0012] In other embodiments, the outer magnets can be sewn into the towel at the upper right and left portion of the towel.

[0013] Magnet 5 is shown outside of the towel and the hat, i.e., sitting on a table. In this exemplary embodiment, magnet 5 is not sewn into the hat or the towel, but in other embodiments magnet 5 may be arranged differently. Magnet 5 could be placed on the outer left side of the hat once the wearer is ready to attach the towel according to the embodiment.

[0014] Magnet 6 is shown outside of the towel and the hat, i.e., sitting on a table. In this exemplary embodiment, magnet 6 is not sewn into the hat or the towel, but in other embodiments magnet 6 may be arranged differently. Magnet 6 could be placed on the inner right side of the hat once the wearer is ready to attach the towel according to the embodiment.

[0015] Magnet 7 is shown outside of the towel and the hat, i.e., sitting on a table. In this exemplary embodiment, magnet 7 is not sewn into the hat or the towel, but in other embodiments magnet 7 may be arranged differently. Magnet 7 could be placed on the outer right side of the hat once the wearer is ready to attach the towel according to the embodiment.

[0016] Magnets 2, 5, 6, and 7 can be arranged with north and south poles on either side. Areas of a magnet that have magnetic strength are called poles. Like poles repel, or push, each other. Opposite poles attract, or pull, each other. Thus, the north pole of a magnet will click together with the south pole of another magnet, and two north poles will push each other away. It is convenient for north and south poles to be arranged on opposite sides of each of magnets 2, 5, 6, and 7, so a user can easily configure the magnets to attract and hold the towel. The magnets could also come marked with North or South on either side, for example.

[0017] Magnets 2, 5, 6, and 7 can be comprised of a number of magnetic materials. Ceramic (ferrite) magnets comprise barium or strontium ferrite, and are the lowest-cost magnet material to use in embodiments. Neodymium magnets are magnet materials with the highest magnetic strength. Composed of neodymium, iron & boron, these strong permanent magnets are the most powerful class of magnet materials commercially available today and could also be used in embodiments.

[0018] FIG. 2 illustrates an inner view of a towel attached to a hat on one side according to an embodiment.

[0019] In FIG. 2, the towel is partially attached to the hat 1 on one side. Magnet 2 is placed on the inner left side of the hat 1. Magnet 7 is obscured from view and is positioned on the outer left side of the hat 1, holding the right side of the top of the towel 4 in place. Lower side of towel 3 is laying down on e.g, a table.

[0020] Magnets 5 and 6 have not yet been deployed to hold the towel on the right side of the hat. To complete the securing of the towel to the hat 1, the user can deploy magnets 5 and 6 on the inner and outer right sides of the hat or vice-versa.

[0021] FIG. 3 illustrates an outer view of a towel attached to a hat on two sides according to an embodiment.

[0022] In FIG. 3, the towel is attached to the hat 1 on both sides. Magnet 7 is placed on the outer left side of the hat 1. Magnet 2 is obscured from view and is positioned on the inner left side of the hat 1, attracting to magnet 7 and holding the right side of the top of the towel 4 in place. Lower side of towel 3 is draping down towards the ground.

[0023] Magnets 5 and 6 are holding the right side of the towel on the right side of the hat 1. Magnets 5 and 6 are obscured from view in the depiction of FIG. 3.

[0024] FIG. 4 illustrates a person wearing a towel attached to a hat according to an embodiment.

[0025] In FIG. 4, the towel is attached to the hat 1 on both sides which is situated on the head of person 8. Magnet 7 is placed on the outer left side of the hat 1. Magnet 2 is obscured from view and is positioned on the inner left side of the hat 1, attracting to magnet 7 and holding the right side of the top of the towel 4 in place. Lower side of towel 3 extends downwardly to cover the neck of person 8.

[0026] Magnets 5 and 6 are holding the right side of the towel on the right side of the hat 1. Magnets 5 and 6 are obscured from view in the depiction of FIG. 4.

[0027] The exemplary embodiment shows the hat being worn forwards, but other embodiments could feature a hat worn backwards, in which case the right and left sides would be switched. In an exemplary embodiment, the hat is a baseball cap, but in other embodiments any of a wide variety of different hat types could be used.

[0028] In some embodiments, one or more magnets may be connected by a small chain, wire, string, or the like so that the towel may actually hang down below the hat.

[0029] In some embodiments, a small hole(s) can be provided in the towel and the magnets can be connected by a beaded chain with clasps so that the towel could be removed when washing.

[0030] Having thus described a few particular embodiments of the invention, various alterations, modifications, and improvements will readily occur to those skilled in the art. Such alterations, modifications, and improvements are intended to be part of this description though not expressly stated herein, and are intended to be within the spirit and scope of the invention. Accordingly, the foregoing description is by way of example only of several of many potential embodiments, and not limiting.
