CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0001] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Application No. 63 / 671,841, filed on Jul. 16, 2024, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference in their entirety.BACKGROUND
[0002] Hair ties are commonly used, particularly with individuals having medium- or long-length hair, to fasten or secure hair. For example, a hair tie can be used to fashion hair into a ponytail, a bun, or braids, among other available hairstyles. Exemplary hair ties include ribbons, hair elastics (e.g., Scrunchies®), bands, hair rings, hair binders, and hair holders. A particularly popular type of hair ties is the hair band. Hair bands (also referred to as hair rings, spiral hair ties, coiled hair ties, coiled hair elastic ties, elastic ties, and telephone cord hair ties) beneficially allow for the focus of the style to be the user's hair rather than the hair tie itself. Many hair bands also include a traceless feature such that it leaves little to no trace (e.g., dents or bumps) on the user's hair after it is removed. Typically, hair bands are made of a thermoplastic plastic material such as thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) or thermoplastic rubber (TPR), both of which have good flexibility, allowing the ring-shaped coiled cord to be stretchable to a wide-open state and then restored to its original state.
[0003] In use, the hair tie is first stretched to a wide-open state so that allows a bundle of hair can pass therethrough, before being twisted into several more loops (e.g., 3 or 4 loops), each time passing the hair back through, until the hair is tightly and securely fixed, for example, into a ponytail. Unfortunately, if the user desires to form a bun, a second hair band must be used. Specifically, once the ponytail is formed, the hair is then coiled, wrapped around into a bun, and then secured with the second hair tie. Bobby pins, Scrunchies®, and other hair accessories may also be required to tighten the bun. Accordingly, there remains a need for hair ties that can be used to form a bun, in isolation, without necessitating the use of additional hair accessories, and further that can be manipulated to tighten and secure the bun once in place. These needs and others can be satisfied by the present disclosure.SUMMARY
[0004] In accordance with the purpose(s) of the invention, as embodied and broadly described herein, the invention, in one aspect, relates to hair ties having a cord with an elongated body that extends through various passages of a guide such that at least two loops are formed therefrom. In this way, the disclosed hair tie can be useful in, for example, styling hair into a bun, allowing for the use of a single hair tie and readily facilitating adjustment as needed to secure the hair. Also disclosed are guides having at least three passages formed in a linear or triangular fashion extending therethrough. Methods of making the disclosed hair ties and disclosed guides are also described.
[0005] Thus, disclosed herein are hair ties comprising: (a) a cord comprising an elongated body having a first end, a second end, and a length, wherein the elongated body is formed into a first loop and a second loop, wherein each of the first loop and the second loop have a circumference and comprise a first leg segment, a second leg segment, and a turn segment; and (b) a guide comprising a body having a first passage, a second passage, and a third passage each extending therethrough, wherein the first, second, and third passages each slidably receive the elongated body, wherein the elongated body extends from the first end to the guide and is slidably received through the first passage in a first direction, wherein the elongated body extends from the first passage and is slidably received through the second passage in a second direction, thereby forming the first loop, wherein the elongated body extends from the second passage and is slidably received through the third passage in a third direction, thereby forming the second loop, wherein the elongated body extends from the third passage to the second end, and wherein the elongated body is slidable through the first, second, and third passages to adjust the circumference of the first loop and the circumference of the second loop.

[0038] As detailed herein, the disclosed hair ties can beneficially be used to style hair in a bun. Because the disclosed hair tic includes at least two loops, a second hair tie is not needed. Thus, a ponytail can be formed using the first loop, and then the second loop can be used to secure the bun once the hair is wound up. Both the thickness and the length of the cord, as further detailed herein, are such that multiple loops can be formed and the ponytail and bun held tight. Moreover, because of the relationship between the size of the passages in the guide and the diameter of the cord, as further detailed herein, the cord can be adjusted to tighten or loosen either the ponytail or the bun or both by sliding the cord further through or out of the passages, with some friction resistance. Thus, for example, a ponytail can be formed using the first loop, at which point an end of the cord can be pulled further through a passage of the guide to tighten the ponytail. The hair is then wound into a bun and the second loop is wrapped around the bun to secure it. An end of the cord is then pulled further through a passage of the guide to tighten the bun. It is further noted that throughout this process, the circumference of each loop can be adjusted as needed so that further cord is available to form either the ponytail or the bun. In a further aspect, the hair ties consists essentially of the cord and the guide.

Finally, elongated body 217 extends from third passage 215 to second end 205. The circumference of first loop 207 and second loop 206 can be adjusted via sliding one or both of first end 204 and second end 205 farther away from or towards guide 203. As would be understood by one of skill in the art, first end 204 can optionally contain a closing means 218 and second end 205 can optionally contain a closing means 219. See FIG. 2C. Finally, elongated body 320 extends from fourth passage 319 to second end 305. The circumference of first loop 307, second loop 311, and third loop 314 can be adjusted via sliding one or both of first end 304 and second end 305 farther away from or towards guide 302. Claims
1. A hair tie comprising:(a) a cord comprising an elongated body having a first end, a second end, and a length, wherein the elongated body is formed into a first loop and a second loop, wherein each of the first loop and the second loop have a circumference and comprise a first leg segment, a second leg segment, and a turn segment; and(b) a guide comprising a body having a first passage, a second passage, and a third passage each extending therethrough, wherein the first, second, and third passages each slidably receive the elongated body,wherein the elongated body extends from the first end to the guide and is slidably received through the first passage in a first direction,wherein the elongated body extends from the first passage and is slidably received through the second passage in a second direction, thereby forming the first loop,wherein the elongated body extends from the second passage and is slidably received through the third passage in a third direction, thereby forming the second loop,wherein the elongated body extends from the third passage to the second end, and wherein the elongated body is slidable through the first, second, and third passages to adjust the circumference of the first loop and the circumference of the second loop.
2. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein the cord has a length of from about 10 inches to about 20 inches.
3. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein the cord has a diameter of from about 1.8 mm to about 5.0 mm.
4. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein the elongated body is an elastic elongated body.
5. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein the first end extends from the first loop and is adjacent to the second loop, and wherein the second end extends from the second loop and is adjacent to the first loop.
6. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein the first end extends from the first loop, wherein the second end extends from the second loop, and wherein the first end and the second end are adjacent to each other.
7. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein one or more selected from the first end and the second end further comprises a closing means to secure the cord.
8. The hair tie of claim 7, wherein the closing means is a knot, a bead, or a clasp.
9. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein the guide consists essentially of the body, the first passage, the second passage, and the third passage.
10. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein the body of the guide further has a fourth passage.
11. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein the first, second, and third passage are arranged in a triangular fashion.
12. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein the first, second, and third passage are arranged in a linear fashion.
13. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein each of the first, second, and third passages have a width of from about 0.1 inches to about 1.0 inch.
14. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein each of the first, second, and third passages have a length of from about 0.1 inches to about 1.0 inch.
15. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein the first direction and the second direction are anti-parallel to each other, the first direction and the third direction are parallel to each other, and the second direction and the third direction are anti-parallel to each other.
16. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein the first direction and the second direction are parallel to each other, the first direction and the third direction are parallel to each other, and the second direction and the third direction are parallel to each other.
17. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein the first direction and the second direction are parallel to each other, the first direction and the third direction are anti-parallel to each other, and the second direction and the third direction are anti-parallel to each other.
18. The hair tie of claim 1, wherein the hair tie consists essentially of the cord and the guide.
19. A kit comprising the hair tie of claim 1 and one or more selected from:(a) a hair styling tool; and(b) a hair accessory.
20. A hair tie comprising:(a) a cord having a length of from about 10 inches to about 20 inches and a diameter of from about 1.8 mm to about 5.0 mm and comprising an elongated body having a first end, a second end, and a length, wherein the elongated body is formed into a first loop and a second loop, wherein each of the first loop and the second loop have a circumference and comprise a first leg segment, a second leg segment, and a turn segment; and(b) a guide consisting essentially of a body having a first passage, a second passage, and a third passage each extending therethrough, wherein the first, second, and third passages have a width of from about 2.5 mm to about 5.0 mm, a length of from about 2.0 mm to about 5.0 mm, and each slidably receive the elongated body,wherein the elongated body extends from the first end to the guide and is slidably received through the first passage,wherein the elongated body extends from the first passage and is slidably received through the second passage, thereby forming the first loop,wherein the elongated body extends from the second passage and is slidably received through the third passage, thereby forming the second loop,wherein the elongated body extends from the third passage to the second end, andwherein the elongated body is slidable through the first, second, and third passages to adjust the circumference of the first loop and the circumference of the second loop.
