Abstract
Description
[0001] A MODULAR BUILDING CONSTRUCTION PANEL SYSTEM WITH REINFORCED SOIL SECTION
[0002] TECHNICAL FIELD
[0003] The invention relates to environmentally friendly, modular and reinforced soil section building construction panel system with high energy efficiency, which will minimize the negative aspects of reinforced concrete in terms of environment and energy.
[0004] BACKGROUND
[0005] Concrete is the most common bearing system material used in today's building construction. During the production of cement, which is the main component of concrete, carbon dioxide emission to nature occurs. Today, in order to reduce this impact of concrete material on the environment, the production of cementless concrete is a fairly common area. However, cementless concrete production has not become widespread in ready mixed concrete plants yet. Besides, as a result of urban transformation works, building demolition wastes occur and these concrete wastes bring serious environmental problems with them.
[0006] Since concrete is a material with high compressive strength and low tensile strength, it is used with rebar. The rebar is an alloy. In the production of rebar (structural steel), many different elements found in nature are used. Therefore, structural steel both brings a burden to the nature and increases the cost of the building. In addition, reinforced concrete systems may be insufficient in terms of heat efficiency without additional applications. In this context, our invention is related to a modular, environment-friendly, reinforced soil section building construction panel system with high energy efficiency, which will minimize the negative aspects of reinforced concrete listed above in terms of environment and energy. In the selection of the soil material used in the creation of the invention, the soil construction application, which is widely used in Anatolia, has been the source of inspiration.
[0007] It is considered as the most important innovative approach that a product designed in today's engineering studies produces environmentally friendly (produced by the use of waste or least harmful to nature), sustainable, modular, energy efficient and economical solutions. In the literature, there are studies in which the expression “reinforced soil” is mentioned in title. However, all of these studies describe the structures used as earth retaining walls. In these studies, earth retaining structures that are usually built on the front face of slope to ensure the safety of the inclined slopes are described. For example, Aydm (2022) stated in his thesis that landslides can be stopped with an earth-reinforced retaining wall system. On the other hand, §at (2019) has defined earth retaining walls systems in his thesis study. He has stated that these systems consist of precast surface, steel strip or geotextile and soil filling material.
[0008] In addition, modularity in structures is an important area of interest in the literature. For example, Ye et al. (2021) have stated that modularity has become widespread in structural design, there are several different modular building applications, and multi-storey structures can be built modularly. In the study, it has been shown that low-rise or multi-storey structures can be produced in which containers are placed on top of each other with different joint details.
[0009] There are other studies in which soil and concrete components are used in the literature. Of these works, the work carried out by Tadesco et al. are a wall by itself and is completely different from our invention in terms of its intended use, details, features and design. In the study, it was stated that the soil material was used to absorb the blast effect. The work carried out by Shaojie et al. (Shandong Andi Architectural TechCo. Ltd.) includes a monolithic wall design that the soil filled prefabricated reinforced concrete plates placed between the prefabricated “I” section columns built on site. Therefore, it is a retaining structure with architectural features. None of these studies cover the production of a modular building in residential style. These studies are generally within the scope of retaining structure design and production stages are at macro level.
[0010] AIM OF THE INVENTION
[0011] The aim of the invention is that the geopolymer (cement-free) concrete approach, which is included in the literature as a solution for increasing cement consumption, and the production of recycled aggregate concrete, in which concrete waste is evaluated, is currently not widespread in the sector, so the use of conventional concrete is increasing rapidly and additional thermal insulation applications are needed after the construction of reinforced concrete load-bearing structures is completed. Another aim of the invention is to cause much less environmental problems than conventional reinforced concrete structures after the structures have completed their economic life.
[0012] Another purpose of the invention is that the structures have a modular feature. In the literature, there are studies in which the expression “reinforced soil” is mentioned in title. However, all of these studies describe the structures used as earth retaining walls. In these studies, earth retaining structures that are usually built on the front face of slope to ensure the safety of the inclined slopes are described. Therefore, these systems and the building element, which is our invention, are completely different.
[0013] Another objectives of the invention are to produce today’s buildings in an environmentally friendly, sustainable, high energy efficiency, modular, earthquake resistant, desired architecture and practically.

[0024] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0025] With the developing technology and population growth, the construction is increasing rapidly, many new buildings for residential and commercial use are being built and the existing buildings are transformed. Today, the most common systems used in building construction are reinforced concrete bearing systems. The situation increases the concrete production and consumption rapidly. In this context, it is expected that concrete consumption will exceed 18 billion tons per year in 2050. The increase in concrete consumption also increases the production of cement, which provides binding in concrete. Therefore, the demand for cement is expected to increase by 200% in 2050 compared to 2010.
[0026] While producing cement, carbon dioxide is emitted to nature. Although there are solutions in the literature in which different materials are used as binders instead of cement in concrete and even cementless geopolymer concrete approaches, it has been seen that these solutions have not become widespread yet.
[0027] In today’s most of ready mixed concrete plant, traditional cementitious concrete is produced. The first problem to be solved by our invention, which is thought to be beneficial in the construction industry in the field of environment and energy, is optimizing concrete consumption in building construction. In addition, by limiting the use of structural steel in our designs, positive results arise in terms of both cost and environmental effects.
[0028] Along with the environmental problems related to the increase in concrete consumption in new building production, the concrete waste generated during the transformation of the existing building stock also creates a serious environmental burden. Recycled aggregate concrete studies are carried out in this area in the literature. However, as in the production of cementless concrete, these studies have not become widespread in practical engineering applications. Because the structural designs using this new type of concrete material should be included in the relevant structural design standards and codes. The second problem to be solved in our invention is to reduce the damage caused by concrete waste to the environment. These two problems guided the environmental technical impact desired to be achieved with our invention.
[0029] In addition, most of the buildings built today do not have modularity. The dismantling of a building that is no longer in need of use and moving it to a location that needs use provides a benefit both in terms of environmental effects and cost. The fact that the building systems subject to our invention have a modular feature creates a technical effect together with this benefit.
[0030] The technical effect of our invention in the field of energy is that the thermal insulation properties of the concrete material are weak, the heat transfer coefficient is high (1.5-2 W / mK) and it requires additional applications in terms of energy saving. It is an important advantage in terms of energy efficiency that the panel sections designed within the scope of our invention consists of 67% soil (granular sand) material and that the soil has three times more insulation properties compared to reinforced concrete (0.5 W / mK).
[0031] Another technical effect is the long construction period of a traditional building, which brings problems in terms of environment, energy and cost. With our invention, modular building systems can be produced in a much shorter time than traditional buildings.
[0032] The invention is a panel system made of soil (2), concrete panel (1) and steel plate (3) materials, which form the main component of the reinforced soil structure bearing system. The section of the panel system consists of 67% soil (2) and 33% concrete panel (1) (Figure 2). For example, a panel section designed to be 150 mm thick consists of 100 mm soil (2) and 50 mm minimum reinforced (minimum rebar) concrete panel (1). Therefore, the section consists of 67% soil and 33% concrete.
[0033] Steel plates (3) are designed for the assembly of panel systems and the modularity of the building system (Figure 3). In concrete panels (1), there is minimum reinforcement (rebar) to prevent superficial cracks and for the connection detail with the steel plate.
[0034] In order to bring together at least two of the panel systems subject to the invention, a steel plate (3) is placed between the two panel systems and they are mounted to each other with bolts (5). In this way, the structure gains modularity and a very fast production can be realized. The vertical and lateral load capacity of the wall formed as a result of the joint is quite high.
[0035] The invention consists of four main parts. These parts are; The “U” sectioned concrete panel (1), the bolt (4) that connects the concrete panel (1) with the steel plate (3), the steel plate (3) and the bolt (5) that connects the modules with each other. After the joining of the steel plates (3) with the concrete panel (1) is completed, the soil (2) material is compressed into the section. After the soil (2) material is compressed, the upper surface of the “U” section is covered with a steel plate (3) as well as the side surfaces, and the final module is obtained. How the created panels are combined with each other is given above.
[0036] The fact that the concrete panel (1) is in the form of “U” section is completely for the structural system to work together in a statically safe manner and for the soil (2) material not to go out of the section during the economic life of the structure after panel joints. The use of granular soil (2) material in our invention is both in terms of compression and in order to prevent plants in the cross section. The fact that the joints are composed of steel plates (3) and connected with bolts (5) is for the high vertical and horizontal stability of the structure.
