[0002] Conventionally, the quality of a machined surface has been quantitatively evaluated using a data map (for example, see Patent Document 1).

[0003] Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2021-105825

[0004] However, the data map is data related to a surface facing in one direction among the machined surfaces. For example, the data map is data related to the top surface of a workpiece. [0008] A data map generating device and a computer-readable storage medium according to an embodiment of the present disclosure will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the following description, components having the same or similar functions will be designated by the same reference numerals. Duplicate descriptions of those components may be omitted.

[0009] In this application, "based on XX" means "based on at least XX," and includes cases where it is based on other elements in addition to XX. Furthermore, "based on XX" is not limited to cases where XX is used directly, but also includes cases where it is based on XX that has been calculated or processed. "XX" is any element (for example, any information).

[0010] First Embodiment A data map generating device generates a data map used for quantitative evaluation of a machined surface. The data map generating device is implemented in, for example, a numerical control device, a personal computer (PC), a server, a tablet terminal, or the like.

[0011] The machined surface is the surface of a workpiece that has been machined by a tool in a processing machine, such as a machine tool such as a machining center.

[0012] Quantitative evaluation is, for example, evaluating the quality of a machined surface using a numerical value that indicates the characteristics of the machined surface. The numerical value that indicates the characteristics of the machined surface is, for example, the distance from a predetermined plane to the machined surface. When the workpiece is placed on a table, the predetermined plane may be the top surface of the table or the bottom surface of the workpiece. In other words, the numerical value that indicates the characteristics of the machined surface is a numerical value that indicates the height of the machined surface.

[0013] The numerical values indicating the characteristics of the machined surface may be the arithmetic mean roughness Sa of the machined surface and the maximum height Sz of the machined surface. The arithmetic mean roughness Sa is also called surface roughness Sa.

[0014] The data map is two-dimensional information in which predetermined information is associated with each of a plurality of regions corresponding to the machining surface. The predetermined information is the above-mentioned numerical values that indicate the characteristics of the machining surface.

[0015] 1 is a diagram illustrating an example of a method for generating a data map. The data map is generated, for example, by a ray-casting method. In the ray-casting method, a predetermined virtual plane P is first divided into a plurality of regions of a predetermined division size.

[0016] The shape of the multiple regions may be, for example, a lattice shape. That is, the shape of each region may be a rectangle or a square. When the shape of each region is a square, the segment size is a numerical value indicating the length of one side of the square. The segment size is also called the lattice length. The shape of the multiple regions may be a triangle. In this case, the segment size is a numerical value indicating, for example, the length of the shortest side of the triangle.

[0017] Furthermore, the distance between each region and the machining surface MS is calculated. When the machining surface MS is generated by the machining simulation, the distance between each region and the machining surface MS is calculated based on a coordinate system set in the virtual three-dimensional space. Furthermore, the calculated distance is associated with each region and recorded.

[0018] The image of how a data map is generated by the Ray-Casting method is as follows: First, light rays are emitted from each region of a predetermined imaginary plane P toward the processing surface MS. Next, the timing at which the light rays emitted from each region reach the processing surface MS is detected.

[0019] Next, the time from when the light beam is emitted until the light beam reaches the processing surface MS is calculated. Next, based on the calculated time, the distance between each region of the predetermined virtual plane P and the processing surface MS is calculated. Next, a value indicating the calculated distance is associated with each region and recorded. This generates a data map of the processing surface MS.

[0020] 1, the distance from one of the multiple regions, region A1, to the machining surface MS is calculated to be, for example, 9.9. In this case, information indicating the distance, "9.9," is associated with region A1 and recorded. Similarly, information indicating the distance between each of the other regions and the machining surface MS is associated and recorded.

[0021] When a data map of the machining surface MS of a workpiece actually machined by a machine tool is generated, a light beam from a measuring instrument is emitted onto the machining surface MS to measure the distance between a predetermined virtual plane P and the machining surface MS. A value indicating the measured distance is recorded in association with each region. In this way, a data map of the machining surface MS of the actually machined workpiece is generated. The measuring instrument that measures the machining surface is, for example, one of a three-dimensional scanner, a laser confocal microscope, and a white light interference microscope.

[0022] 2 is a block diagram showing an example of the hardware configuration of a data map generating device 1. The data map generating device 1 includes, for example, a hardware processor 101, a bus 102, a read-only memory (ROM) 103, a random access memory (RAM) 104, a non-volatile memory 105, and an input / output device 106.

[0023] The hardware processor 101 is a processor that uses a system program to control the entire data map generating device 1. The hardware processor 101 reads the system program stored in the ROM 103 via the bus 102. The hardware processor 101 is, for example, a CPU (Central Processing Unit) or an electronic circuit.

[0024] The bus 102 is a communication path that connects the various pieces of hardware in the data map generating device 1. The various pieces of hardware in the data map generating device 1 exchange data via the bus 102.

[0025] The ROM 103 is a storage device that stores system programs, etc. The ROM 103 is a computer-readable storage medium.

[0026] The RAM 104 is a storage device that temporarily stores various data and functions as a work area for the hardware processor 101 to process various data.

[0027] The nonvolatile memory 105 is a storage device that retains data even when the power to the data map generating device 1 is turned off. The nonvolatile memory 105 stores, for example, workpiece data. The nonvolatile memory 105 is a computer-readable storage medium. The nonvolatile memory 105 is, for example, a battery-backed memory or a solid-state drive (SSD).

[0028] The input / output device 106 receives various data from the hardware processor 101 and displays the data on a display. The input / output device 106 also receives input of various data and sends the data to the hardware processor 101, for example.

[0029] The input / output device 106 is, for example, a touch panel. When the input / output device 106 is a touch panel, the input / output device 106 is, for example, a capacitive touch panel. The touch panel is not limited to a capacitive touch panel and may be a touch panel of another type.

[0030] 3 is a block diagram showing an example of the functions of the data map generating device 1. The data map generating device 1 includes a workpiece data acquiring unit 111, a detecting unit 112, a direction determining unit 113, a generating unit 114, and an output unit 115. The workpiece data acquiring unit 111, the detecting unit 112, the direction determining unit 113, the generating unit 114, and the output unit 115 are realized, for example, by the hardware processor 101 performing arithmetic processing using a system program stored in the ROM 103 and various programs and data stored in the non-volatile memory 105.

[0031] The workpiece data acquisition unit 111 acquires workpiece data. The workpiece data is three-dimensional data that indicates the shape of the machined workpiece. The data that indicates the shape of the workpiece includes data that indicates the surface texture of the workpiece. The surface texture is, for example, surface roughness.

[0032] 4A to 4C are examples of the shape of a workpiece indicated by the workpiece data. Fig. 4A is a perspective view of the workpiece. Fig. 4B is a plan view of the workpiece. Fig. 4C is a side view of the workpiece.

[0033] The workpiece data indicates a workpiece having a top surface and a side surface. A cylindrical protrusion is formed on the top surface. A pair of convex portions is also formed on the top surface at positions facing each other with the cylindrical protrusion at the center.

[0034] The side surface is concave inward near the middle of the workpiece height. In other words, the middle of the workpiece height is thinner than the top and bottom ends. The side surface is also twisted around the center axis of the workpiece, which extends along the Z axis.

[0035] The workpiece data is generated, for example, by a simulation unit (not shown) that executes a machining simulation. That is, the workpiece data acquisition unit 111 acquires the workpiece data generated by the simulation unit. The workpiece data may be generated based on data indicating the shape of the workpiece measured by a measuring instrument. Now, return to the description of FIG. 3.

[0036] The detection unit 112 detects the remaining machining surfaces MS for which no data map has been generated. That is, the remaining machining surfaces are the machining surfaces excluding the machining surfaces for which data maps have already been generated. In the example shown in FIG. 1, the remaining machining surfaces are surfaces that are not receiving light rays.

[0037] The machined surface means a part of the surface of the machined workpiece, and therefore multiple machined surfaces may be included in one flat or curved surface.

[0038] The direction determination unit 113 determines a direction for generating a data map. For example, if a data map of a workpiece indicated by the workpiece data has not yet been generated, the direction determination unit 113 determines a predetermined direction as the direction for generating the data map. That is, the direction determination unit 113 determines the direction in which the generation unit 114 will first generate a data map. The predetermined direction is, for example, the negative direction of the Z axis.

[0039] The generating unit 114 generates a data map of one of the plurality of machining surfaces based on the direction determined by the direction determining unit 113 .

[0040] Generating a data map based on a certain direction means generating a data map of a machining surface that is disposed in that direction when viewed from a predetermined virtual plane P. For example, in Fig. 1, the machining surface is disposed in the negative direction of the Z axis with respect to the predetermined virtual plane P. In this case, the generation unit 114 generates a data map based on the negative direction of the Z axis.

[0041] Furthermore, one machining surface for which a data map is generated by the generation unit 114 is a surface that directly receives light rays when it is assumed that light rays are emitted from a predetermined virtual plane P to a workpiece indicated by the workpiece data. Therefore, a data map is not generated for a surface among the multiple machining surfaces that does not face the predetermined virtual plane P.

[0042] When the direction determination unit 113 determines the negative direction of the Z axis as the direction for generating the data map, the generation unit 114 generates a data map of one machining surface based on the negative direction of the Z axis.

[0043] 4A to 4C, when the data map is generated by the generator 114 based on the negative direction of the Z axis, the detector 112 detects the remaining machining surface. The remaining machining surface is, for example, the side surface of the workpiece.

[0044] The detection unit 112 detects the remaining machining surface based on the generation status of a data map of at least one of a polygonal surface which is the machining surface, a surface which is a polygon approximation of a curved surface included in the machining surface, a first virtual surface created based on control points of a curved surface included in the machining surface, and a second virtual surface created based on sampling points obtained by sampling the machining surface at predetermined intervals.

[0045] 5 is a diagram showing an example of a machining surface made up of a plurality of polygonal surfaces. When the machining surface is made up of a plurality of polygonal surfaces, the detection unit 112 detects polygonal surfaces for which a data map has not yet been created, thereby detecting the remaining machining surfaces.

[0046] 6 is a diagram showing an example of a machining surface composed of curved surfaces. When the machining surface is composed of curved surfaces, the curved surfaces are approximated, for example, by polygons. That is, the curved surfaces are approximated by a set of multiple infinitesimal planes. In this case, the detection unit 112 detects the remaining machining surfaces by detecting, among the polygon-approximated surfaces, surfaces for which a data map has not yet been generated.

[0047] Furthermore, when the machining surface is composed of a curved surface, such as a NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines) surface, a virtual surface is created based on the control points of the curved surface. The virtual surface is, for example, a collection of infinitesimal planes passing through three adjacent control points. Here, the virtual surface created based on the control points is referred to as a first virtual surface. In this case, the detection unit 112 detects the remaining machining surfaces by detecting, among the first virtual surfaces, virtual surfaces for which a data map has not yet been generated.

[0048] Furthermore, when the machining surface is composed of a curved surface, a virtual surface is created based on sampling points obtained by sampling the machining surface at predetermined intervals. The virtual surface is, for example, a collection of infinitesimal planes passing through three adjacent sampling points. Here, the virtual surface created based on the sampling points is referred to as a second virtual surface. In this case, the detection unit 112 detects the remaining machining surfaces by detecting, among the second virtual surfaces, virtual surfaces for which a data map has not yet been generated.

[0049] When the remaining machining surface is detected by the detection unit 112, the direction determination unit 113 determines a direction for generating a data map based on the remaining machining surface. The direction determination unit 113 determines a direction for generating a data map based on a normal vector perpendicular to the remaining machining surface.

[0050] When the machining surface is formed by a plurality of polygons, the normal vector perpendicular to the remaining machining surface is the normal vector perpendicular to each polygon, i.e., the normal vector perpendicular to the remaining machining surface is the normal vector of the infinitesimal plane that constitutes the machining surface.

[0051] When the machining surface is formed by a curved surface, the normal vector perpendicular to the remaining machining surface is the normal vector of the polygonal approximation surface, the first virtual surface, or the second virtual surface.

[0052] 7 is a diagram showing the normal vectors of the remaining machining surfaces, that is, the arrows shown in Fig. 7 are normal vectors perpendicular to the machining surfaces for which a data map has not yet been generated.

[0053] 8 shows an example of a direction determined based on the sum of normal vectors perpendicular to the remaining machining surface. The determined direction is opposite to the direction indicated by the sum of normal vectors perpendicular to the remaining machining surface. In other words, the determined direction is parallel to the vector indicated by the sum of normal vectors perpendicular to the remaining machining surface.

[0054] The generation unit 114 generates a data map of the side surface based on the direction determined by the direction determination unit 113. When the generation unit 114 generates the data map, the detection unit 112 again detects the remaining machining surface. When the detection unit 112 detects the remaining machining surface, the direction determination unit 113 again determines the direction for generating the data map. The detection unit 112 repeats the detection of the remaining machining surface until there are no more remaining machining surfaces. In other words, the generation unit 114 repeatedly generates data maps until there are no more remaining machining surfaces.

[0055] The output unit 115 outputs each data map generated by the generation unit 114. The output unit 115 outputs each data map to, for example, the input / output device 106. The input / output device 106 displays each data map on a display. This allows the user to evaluate the quality of the machined surface based on each displayed data map.

[0056] 4A to 4C may be rotationally symmetric with respect to a central axis extending along the Z axis. In this case, the direction indicated by the sum of the normal vectors of the side surface of the workpiece is the negative direction of the Z axis or the positive direction of the Z axis. Alternatively, the sum of the normal vectors of the side surface of the workpiece is a zero vector.

[0057] In this case, the direction determined by the direction determination unit 113 is a direction along the Z axis. Alternatively, the direction determination unit 113 cannot determine a direction. In other words, the direction determination unit 113 cannot determine a direction for generating a data map of the side surface of the workpiece.

[0058] In this case, the direction determination unit 113 may determine a predetermined direction as the direction for generating a data map. The predetermined direction may be, for example, the negative direction of the Y axis. This allows the direction determination unit 113 to determine the direction for generating a data map of the side surface of the workpiece.

[0059] 9 is a flowchart showing an example of processing executed by the data map generating device 1. In the data map generating device 1, first, the workpiece data acquiring unit 111 acquires workpiece data (step SA1).

[0060] Next, the detection unit 112 detects the remaining machining surfaces (step SA2). Next, the direction determination unit 113 determines the direction for generating a data map (step SA3). Next, the generation unit 114 generates a data map of one machining surface (step SA4).

[0061] Next, the detection unit 112 determines whether or not there are any remaining machining surfaces (step SA5). In other words, the detection unit 112 determines whether or not data maps have been generated for all of the multiple machining surfaces.

[0062] If there is a remaining machining surface (Yes in step SA5), the direction determination unit 113 again determines the direction for generating the data map based on the remaining machining surface (step SA3).

[0063] If there are no remaining machining surfaces (No in step SA5), the output unit 115 outputs the data map (step SA6), and the process ends.

[0064] <Second Embodiment> When a data map of a machining surface is generated by emitting a light beam from a predetermined virtual plane P to the machining surface, the angle between the machining surface and the light beam may be relatively small. In this case, the characteristics of the machining surface cannot be accurately represented in the generated data map. In other words, the closer the machining surface and the light beam are to being parallel, the lower the accuracy of the data map. This is because the number of data points acquired is relatively small compared to the size of the machining surface. On the other hand, the closer the angle between the machining surface and the light beam is to 90°, the more accurately the data map represents the characteristics of the machining surface. This is because the number of data points acquired is relatively large compared to the size of the machining surface.

[0065] 10 is a diagram showing the relationship between the processing surface and the light rays emitted onto the processing surface. In the example shown in Fig. 10, the processing surface includes a first surface S1 perpendicular to the Z axis, a second surface S2 intersecting the Z axis at a relatively large angle, and a third surface S3 intersecting the Z axis at a relatively small angle.

[0066] When the data map generating device 1 generates a data map relating to the first surface S1, the data map generating device 1 generates a data map with relatively high accuracy. On the other hand, when the data map generating device 1 generates a data map relating to the third surface S3, the accuracy of the data map generated by the data map generating device 1 becomes low.

[0067] Therefore, the data map generating device 1 can predict whether the accuracy of the generated data map will be high or low by evaluating the angle α between the processing surface and the ray irradiated onto the processing surface. Furthermore, the data map generating device 1 can regenerate a data map of the processing surface that is predicted to have low accuracy so as to have high accuracy, based on the evaluation result of the angle α between the processing surface and the ray irradiated onto the processing surface.

[0068] Fig. 11 is a block diagram showing an example of the functions of a data map generating device 1 including an evaluation unit. The functions of the data map generating device 1 shown in Fig. 11 other than the evaluation unit 116 are the same as the functions of the data map generating device 1 shown in Fig. 3. Therefore, only the evaluation unit 116 will be described here, and a description of the other functions will be partially omitted.

[0069] The data map generating device 1 includes an evaluation unit 116 in addition to a workpiece data acquisition unit 111, a detection unit 112, a direction determination unit 113, a generation unit 114, and an output unit 115. The evaluation unit 116 is realized, for example, by the hardware processor 101 performing arithmetic processing using a system program stored in the ROM 103 and various programs and data stored in the non-volatile memory 105.

[0070] The generation unit 114 generates a data map of one of the multiple machining surfaces based on the direction determined by the direction determination unit 113. For example, when a data map of the machining surfaces of the workpiece shown in Fig. 10 is generated, the generation unit 114 generates data maps of the first surface S1, the second surface S2, and the third surface S3 based on the negative direction of the Z axis. Here, one machining surface is a surface that includes the first surface S1, the second surface S2, and the third surface S3.

[0071] The evaluation unit 116 evaluates whether or not the angle between a normal line perpendicular to one machining surface and a vector indicating the direction determined by the direction determination unit 113 is equal to or greater than a predetermined value. The normal line perpendicular to one machining surface is a normal line perpendicular to one or more surfaces included in one machining surface.

[0072] The evaluation unit 116 evaluates that the angle between the normal line perpendicular to the first surface S1 and the vector indicating the negative direction of the Z axis is less than a predetermined value. The evaluation unit 116 also evaluates that the angle between the normal line perpendicular to the second surface S2 and the vector indicating the negative direction of the Z axis is less than a predetermined value.

[0073] On the other hand, the evaluation unit 116 evaluates that the angle α between the normal line perpendicular to the third surface S3 and the vector indicating the negative direction of the Z axis is equal to or greater than a predetermined value.

[0074] If the evaluation unit 116 evaluates that the angle α is equal to or greater than a predetermined value, the detection unit 112 changes the detection result of the remaining machining surface. For example, if the evaluation unit 116 evaluates that the angle between a normal perpendicular to the third surface S3 and a vector indicating the negative direction of the Z axis is equal to or greater than a predetermined value, the detection unit 112 detects the third surface S3 as the remaining machining surface. In other words, the detection unit 112 considers that a data map for the third surface S3 has not yet been generated. As a result, the data map for the third surface S3 is regenerated based on an angle other than the negative direction of the Z axis (see FIG. 12 ).

[0075] 13 is a flowchart showing an example of processing executed by the data map generating device 1. In the data map generating device 1, first, the workpiece data acquiring unit 111 acquires workpiece data (step SB1).

[0076] Next, the detection unit 112 detects the remaining machining surfaces (step SB2). Next, the direction determination unit 113 determines the direction for generating a data map (step SB3). Next, the generation unit 114 generates a data map of one machining surface (step SB4).

[0077] Next, the evaluation unit 116 evaluates whether the angle between the normal line perpendicular to one of the machining surfaces and the vector indicating the direction determined by the direction determination unit 113 is equal to or greater than a predetermined value (step SB5).

[0078] If the evaluation unit 116 evaluates that the angle is greater than or equal to a predetermined value (Yes in step SB5), the detection unit 112 changes the detection result (step SB6), and then the direction determination unit 113 determines the direction for generating the data map (step SB3).

[0079] If the evaluation unit 116 evaluates that the angle is less than the predetermined value (No in step SB5), the detection unit 112 determines whether or not there are remaining machining surfaces (step SB7). In other words, the detection unit 112 determines whether or not data maps have been generated for all of the multiple machining surfaces.

[0080] If there is a remaining machining surface (Yes in step SB7), the direction determination unit 113 again determines the direction for generating the data map based on the remaining machining surface (step SB3).

[0081] On the other hand, if there are no remaining machining surfaces (No in step SB7), the output unit 115 outputs the data map (step SB8), and the process ends.

[0082] As described above, the data map generating device 1 includes a detection unit 112 that detects the remaining machining surfaces for which no data map has been generated among the plurality of machining surfaces, a direction determination unit 113 that determines a direction for generating a data map based on the remaining machining surfaces, and a generation unit 114 that generates a data map of one machining surface among the plurality of machining surfaces based on the direction determined by the direction determination unit 113. Therefore, the data map generating device 1 can generate a data map that can be used to evaluate the quality of the plurality of machining surfaces of a workpiece.

[0083] Furthermore, the detection unit 112 repeats the detection of the remaining machining surfaces until there are no more remaining machining surfaces. Therefore, the data map generating device 1 can generate a data map for all machining surfaces of a workpiece including a plurality of machining surfaces.

[0084] Furthermore, the detection unit 112 detects the remaining machining surfaces based on the generation status of at least one of the data maps of a polygonal surface included in the plurality of machining surfaces, a surface obtained by approximating a curved surface included in the plurality of machining surfaces to a polygon, a first virtual surface created based on control points of the curved surface, and a second virtual surface created based on sampling points obtained by sampling the plurality of machining surfaces at predetermined intervals. Therefore, the detection unit 112 can generate data maps for all machining surfaces, regardless of whether the machining surfaces are flat or curved.

[0085] Furthermore, the direction determination unit 113 determines a direction based on a normal vector perpendicular to the remaining machining surface. The direction determined by the direction determination unit 113 is parallel to a vector indicated by the sum of the normal vectors of the remaining machining surfaces. Therefore, the data map generation device 1 can sequentially generate data maps of the remaining machining surfaces for which data maps have not yet been generated.

[0086] The data map generating device 1 further includes an evaluation unit 116 that evaluates whether the angle between a normal perpendicular to one machining surface and a vector indicating a direction is equal to or greater than a predetermined value, and when the evaluation unit 116 evaluates that the angle is equal to or greater than the value, the detection unit 112 changes the detection results for the remaining machining surfaces. Therefore, the data map generating device 1 can generate a data map with high accuracy over the entire machining surface.
