Abstract
Description
Spacer core, slot die coater
[0001] The present invention relates to a spacer shim and a slot die coater and a coating method using the same, and more particularly, to a spacer shim configured to coat a plurality of coating liquids simultaneously, a slot die coater including the same, and a coating method using the slot die coater.
[0002] This application claims priority to Korean Patent Application No. 10-2023-0102447, filed on August 4, 2023, and all contents disclosed in the specification and drawings of that application are incorporated herein by reference.
[0003] Slot die coaters are widely used to coat active or insulating materials on battery electrode plates. Slot die coaters include a spacer shim sandwiched between two slot die blocks.
[0004] The spacer core forms a flow path within a slot die coater. The flow path includes an inlet flow path through which coating liquid is introduced from the outside, and a discharge flow path through which coating liquid is sprayed to the outside.
[0005] In the past, after coating an active material on an electrode plate, an insulating material was coated on the end of the active material coating area.
[0006] However, since the battery production speed can be increased by performing these processes simultaneously, a spacer core capable of simultaneously coating the electrode plate with active material and insulating material is required.
[0007] The present invention was created to solve the above problems, and the problem that the present invention seeks to solve is to provide a spacer core configured to coat multiple coating solutions simultaneously.
[0008] Another technical problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide a slot die coater including an improved spacer core.
[0009] Another technical problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide a coating method using a slot die coater including an improved spacer core.
[0010] In order to solve the above-described problem, according to one aspect of the present invention, a first spacer shim includes a shim body having a plate shape having a predetermined width, length, and thickness and a first surface having the width and the length; wherein the shim body includes an inlet trench formed by a groove recessed in the thickness direction in the first surface and configured to allow a first coating liquid to flow in along the thickness direction; and a flow path portion including a discharge trench formed by a groove recessed in the thickness direction in the first surface and configured to discharge the first coating liquid along the length direction; and an inlet portion formed by a groove recessed in the thickness direction at one end of the first surface in the width direction.
[0011] The above inlet may be open toward the width and length direction of the core body.
[0012] The above euro portion is formed on the inner side of the first surface,
[0013] The above inlet portion may be formed on the first surface on the outside of the flow path portion along the width direction.
[0014] The above inlet portion may be formed on the outside along the width direction from the discharge trench.
[0015] The above inlet portion may be spaced apart, at least in part, from the discharge trench.
[0016] The above inlet portion can be in contact with the discharge trench at an end along the longitudinal direction.
[0017] The depth of the above inlet portion may be substantially equal to the depth of the above discharge trench.
[0018] The above inlet and outlet trenches extend along the longitudinal direction,
[0019] The above inlet portion may have an extension portion whose width is extended in a direction along the longitudinal direction toward the discharge trench.
[0020] The inlet portion may have an end portion along the longitudinal direction whose width gradually increases along the longitudinal direction.
[0021] The above-mentioned core body may have a stepped portion formed by recessing inward along the length direction of the core body in an area where the first coating liquid is discharged and where the second surface forming the thickness meets the first surface and an area adjacent thereto.
[0022] The above-mentioned step portion may be provided in an area corresponding to the area where the inlet portion and the discharge trench are located.
[0023] In another aspect of the present invention for solving the above-described problem, a slot die coater may include: a first spacer shim according to the present invention; a second spacer shim provided on one side of the first spacer; a first slot die block coupled to one side of the shim body so as to face the exposed surface of the flow path; and a second slot die block coupled to the other side of the shim body so as to face the first slot die block.
[0024] At least a portion of the second coating liquid discharged from the second spacer core may be configured to flow into the inlet of the adjacent first spacer core.
[0025] The above-mentioned core body may have a stepped portion formed by recessing inward along the length direction of the core body in an area where the first coating liquid is discharged and where the second surface forming the thickness meets the first surface and an area adjacent thereto.
[0026] The first coating liquid discharged from the first spacer core and the second coating liquid discharged from the second spacer core can be discharged in a state of contacting each other at the step portion.
[0027] According to one aspect of the present invention, multiple coating solutions can be applied simultaneously. In particular, when multiple coating solutions need to be coated adjacently, a first coating solution can be discharged from a discharge trench, and a second coating solution can be discharged from an adjacent inlet. Therefore, the speed of the coating process can be improved by replacing the process of coating multiple coating solutions individually with a process of coating simultaneously. Furthermore, the problem of misalignment or difficulty in aligning the coating solutions along the discharge direction depending on the coating tolerance when coating individually can be solved by coating simultaneously.
[0028] According to another aspect of the present invention, the first coating liquid discharged from the first spacer core and the second coating liquid discharged from the second spacer core are discharged while in contact with each other. Therefore, the accuracy of the coating process in which the first coating liquid and the second coating liquid must be coated side by side while in contact can be improved. In particular, the process in which the first coating liquid and the second coating liquid must be coated side by side while in contact requires that the alignment according to the direction in which the coating liquids are discharged be precisely matched. If this is not the case, there are problems such as the first coating liquid and the second coating liquid being coated without being in contact or one coating liquid encroaching on a part where the other coating liquid is to be coated, but such problems can be solved by the configuration of the present invention.
[0029] According to another aspect of the present invention, the second coating liquid discharged from the second spacer core does not come into abrupt contact with the first coating liquid discharged from the first spacer core, but rather comes into contact with the first coating liquid over a gradually increasing width, thereby preventing the problem of the first coating liquid and the second coating liquid mixing due to abrupt contact.

[0043] Fig. 1 is a plan view showing a first spacer core (10) according to the present invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing a first spacer core (10) according to the present invention.
[0044] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, the first spacer core (10) includes a core body (100) including a euro portion (110) and an inlet portion (120).
[0045] For the convenience of explanation, a three-dimensional coordinate system is shown in the drawing. The extension direction of the X-axis is the width direction of the core body (100), the extension direction of the Y-axis is the length direction of the core body (100), and the extension direction of the Z-axis is the thickness direction of the core body (100).
[0046] The core body (100) may be a plate shape having a predetermined width, length, and thickness. The core body (100) may have a first surface having a width and a length. The first surface may be located in the positive direction of the Z-axis and may be a surface parallel to the XY plane.
[0047] The core body (100) may include a euro portion (110) and an inlet portion (120).
[0048] The flow path (110) may include an inlet trench (111) and a discharge trench (112). The flow path (110) may be formed on the inner side of the first surface. The flow path (110) may be formed on the inner side in the width direction of the first surface. The flow path (110) may be formed on the inner side in the length direction of the first surface, except for the end of the discharge trench (112) through which the first coating liquid is discharged.
[0049] The inlet trench (111) is formed as a groove recessed in the thickness direction on the first surface and can be configured to allow the first coating liquid to flow in the thickness direction. Referring to FIG. 7 together with FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the inlet trench (111) can be connected to the coating liquid supply unit (7) and manifold (9) of the slot die coater (1) described later.
[0050] The discharge trench (112) may be formed as a groove recessed in the thickness direction on the first surface and configured to discharge the first coating liquid along the longitudinal direction. The discharge trench (112) may have an open end so that the first coating liquid may be discharged along the longitudinal direction of the shim body (100). The discharge trench (112) may be provided at one end in the longitudinal direction of the shim body (100). The discharge trench (112) may be communicated with the inlet trench (111). The first coating liquid introduced through the inlet trench (111) may be discharged to the discharge trench (112).
[0051] The discharge trench (112) is provided on both sides in the width direction of the core body (100) as illustrated in FIG. 1, and may have a left-right symmetrical structure based on the length direction of the core body (100). However, the discharge trench (112) may be provided on only one side among the two sides in the width direction of the core body (100).
[0052] The inlet (120) may be formed as a groove recessed in the thickness direction of the shim body (100) at one end in the width direction of the first surface. The inlet (120) may be open toward the width and length directions of the shim body (100). That is, the inlet (120) may be provided at the width and length direction ends of the first surface and may be in the form of a groove recessed in the thickness direction of the shim body (100) so as to be open toward the width and length directions of the shim body (100). The inlet (120) may be open in the same length direction as the length direction of the shim body (100) in which the discharge trench (112) is open. At least a portion of the second coating liquid discharged from the second spacer shim (20) of the slot die coater (1) described later may flow into the inlet (120).
[0053] The inlet (120) is provided on both sides of the shim body (100) in the width direction as illustrated in FIG. 1, and may have a left-right symmetrical structure based on a central axis that passes through the center of the width direction of the shim body (100) and is parallel to the length direction of the shim body (100). However, alternatively, the inlet (120) may be provided on only one side of the both sides of the width direction of the shim body (100). The inlet (120) may be formed further outside the discharge trench (112) along the width direction of the shim body (100).
[0054] According to this configuration of the present invention, multiple coating solutions can be coated simultaneously. In particular, when multiple coating solutions need to be coated adjacently, a first coating solution can be discharged from the discharge trench (112), and a second coating solution can be discharged from the inlet (120) adjacent thereto. Therefore, the speed of the coating process can be improved by replacing the process of coating multiple coating solutions individually with a process of coating simultaneously. In addition, when performing the process of coating individually, the problem of misalignment or difficulty in aligning the coating solutions along the discharge direction depending on the coating tolerance can be solved by coating simultaneously.
[0055] Fig. 3 is a drawing showing an enlarged portion of a portion of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a drawing showing an enlarged portion of a portion of Fig. 3.
[0056] The detailed structure of the inlet (120) will be described with reference to FIGS. 3 and 4.
[0057] The inlet portion (120) and the discharge trench (112) may extend along the longitudinal direction of the shim body (100). At least a portion of the inlet portion (120) may be spaced apart from the discharge trench (112). The end of the inlet portion (120) along the longitudinal direction of the shim body (100) may be in contact with the discharge trench (112). That is, the inlet portion (120) and the discharge trench (112) may be spaced apart along the longitudinal direction of the shim body (100) and may only be in contact at the end. However, alternatively, the inlet portion (120) and the discharge trench (112) may be configured to meet further inward than one end of the longitudinal direction of the shim body (100). The inlet (120) and the discharge trench (112) are configured to be spaced apart from each other along the width direction of the core body (100), and the width of the inlet (120) and / or the discharge trench (112) can be expanded so that they meet each other at an end or an area adjacent to an end along the length direction of the core body (100).
[0058] According to this configuration of the present invention, the first coating liquid discharged from the first spacer core (10) and the second coating liquid discharged from the second spacer core (20) are discharged in a state of contacting each other. Therefore, the accuracy of the coating process in which the first coating liquid and the second coating liquid must be coated side by side while in contact can be improved. In particular, the process in which the first coating liquid and the second coating liquid must be coated side by side while in contact must have precise alignment according to the direction in which the coating liquids are discharged. However, when the alignment is not precisely performed in this way, there are problems such as the first coating liquid and the second coating liquid being coated without contacting each other or one coating liquid encroaching on a part where the other coating liquid should be coated, but this configuration of the present invention can solve these problems.
[0059] Referring back to FIGS. 3 and 4, the inlet portion (120) may have an extension portion (A) whose width is expanded in a direction toward the discharge trench (112) along the longitudinal direction of the core body (100). The inlet portion (120) may have an extension portion (A) that extends along the longitudinal direction of the core body (100) to have a constant width and then expands in width at the end. The extension portion (A) may have various structures, such as a structure in which the width is rapidly expanded in a multi-stage format or a structure in which the width is gradually expanded in a tapered manner. For example, in the case where the end portion of the inlet (120) along the longitudinal direction of the core body (100) as shown in FIG. 4 gradually widens in width along the longitudinal direction of the core body (100), the discharge width of the second coating liquid discharged from the second spacer core (20) does not rapidly expand toward the first coating liquid discharged from the first spacer core (10), but gradually expands, thereby preventing the problem of the first coating liquid and the second coating liquid mixing due to the rapid expansion of the discharge width of the first coating liquid.
[0060] Figure 5 is a front view showing the first spacer core (10) according to the present invention.
[0061] Referring to FIG. 5, the depth of the inlet (120) may be substantially the same as the depth of the discharge trench (112). The depth of the inlet (120) along the thickness direction of the shim body (100) may be substantially the same as the depth of the discharge trench (112) along the thickness direction of the shim body (100). In this case, the first coating liquid discharged from the first spacer shim (10) and the second coating liquid discharged from the second spacer shim (20) may be discharged at different heights, thereby preventing a problem in which one coating liquid goes under or rises above the other coating liquid and is coated.
[0062] Fig. 6 is a part of a side view showing the first spacer core (10) according to the present invention.
[0063] Referring to FIG. 6 together with FIG. 2 and FIG. 5, the core body (100) may have a step portion (130).
[0064] The step portion (130) may be positioned in the direction in which the first coating liquid is discharged. The step portion (130) may be formed such that an area where the second surface forming the thickness of the shim body (100) meets the first surface and an area adjacent thereto are recessed inward along the longitudinal direction of the shim body (100). The step portion (130) may be configured such that a portion located below along the thickness direction of the second surface (in the direction parallel to the Z-axis) protrudes further outward along the longitudinal direction of the shim body (100) than a portion located above. The step portion (130) may be formed over the entire second surface along the width direction of the shim body (100). However, the step portion (130) may be provided only in an area corresponding to an area where the inlet portion (120) and the discharge trench (112) are located. That is, the step portion (130) may be provided only on one side and / or both side ends of the core body (100).
[0065] According to this configuration of the present invention, the first coating liquid discharged from the discharge trench (112) and the second coating liquid discharged from the inlet (120) can be discharged while falling to the step (130) and contacting each other. Compared to when the coating liquid is directly discharged from the discharge trench (112) and the inlet (120), since the coating liquid is discharged by falling downward along the thickness direction of the core body (100) by gravity, the possibility that the first coating liquid and the second coating liquid will not be discharged without contacting each other can be significantly reduced.
[0066] Referring back to FIGS. 1 and 2, the first spacer core (10) may include a fastening hole (140) for coupling with a slot die coater (1) to be described later.
[0067] At least one fastening hole (140) may be provided to penetrate the core body (100) so as not to overlap with the euro portion (110).
[0068] The fastening hole (140) can be used when installing the first spacer shim (10) to the slot die coater (1). The inner circumference of the fastening hole (140) can be provided with screw threads for bolt fastening. At least one fastening hole (140) can be provided in the inner region of the shim body (100). At least two fastening holes (140) can be provided in the inner region of the shim body (100).
[0069] Figure 7 is a drawing showing a slot die coater (1) according to the present invention.
[0070] Referring to FIG. 7, the slot die coater (1) may include the first spacer shim (10) described above. In addition, the slot die coater (1) may include a second spacer shim (20), a first slot die block (3), and a second slot die block (5).
[0071] The second spacer core (20) may be provided on one side of the first spacer core (10). The second spacer core (20) may be provided on both sides of the first spacer core (10). The second spacer core (20) may be provided in an area where simultaneous coating of the first coating liquid discharged from the first spacer core (10) and the second coating liquid discharged from the second spacer core (20) is required. When the second spacer core (20) is provided on one side of the first spacer core (10), the discharge trench (112) of the first spacer core (10) located in an area where the second spacer core (20) is not provided may be blocked to prevent the first coating liquid from flowing out.
[0072] The first slot die block (3) can be joined to one side of the sim body (100) so as to face the exposed surface of the euro portion (110).
[0073] The second slot die block (5) can be joined to the other side of the sim body (100) so as to face the first slot die block (3).
[0074] The first slot die block (3) may include a coating liquid supply unit (7) connected to the inlet trench (111) of the first core spacer. However, the coating liquid supply unit (7) may also be installed externally.
[0075] The detailed structure of the coating liquid supply unit (7) is not shown, but it may include, for example, a coating liquid introduction chamber that is sunken in the thickness direction (parallel to the Z-axis) of the first slot die block (3), a coating liquid introduction hole that is connected to the coating liquid introduction chamber and is perforated in the thickness direction (parallel to the Z-axis) of the first slot die block (3), and a coating liquid supply pipe that has one end connected to the coating liquid introduction hole and the other end connected to a pump.
[0076] The slot die coater (1) can supply the coating liquid using a plurality of pumps (P1, P2). The number of pumps can correspond to the number of the first spacer shims (10) and the second spacer shims (20). Each pump can independently supply the coating liquid to each spacer shim through the coating liquid supply unit (7). However, the number of the plurality of pumps (P1, P2) is not necessarily limited to the number of the first spacer shims (10) and the second spacer shims (20), and for example, the pumps supplying the coating liquid to the second spacer can be connected to each other and be one.
[0077] The manifold (9) is provided in the first slot die block (3) or the second slot die block (5) and is configured to receive a coating liquid in its internal space. For example, the manifold (9) is provided in the first slot die block (3) located at the top and has a hollow semi-cylindrical structure, with a semi-circular outer circumference located at the top and a rectangular outer circumference located at the bottom, so as to face the first spacer shim (10) and the second spacer shim (20). This manifold (9) is connected to the coating liquid supply unit (7) and receives the coating liquid. When the coating liquid is filled in the manifold (9), the coating liquid can flow along the first spacer shim (10) and the second spacer shim (20).
[0078] The first slot die block (3) and the second slot die block (5) can be joined by at least one bolt fastening structure (B).
[0079] The detailed structure of the bolt fastening structure (B) is not shown, but it may include, for example, a bolt fastening hole formed in the first slot die block (3) and having threads formed on the inner surface, a bolt guide hole formed in the second slot die block (5) and guiding bolt insertion from the outside, and a bolt inserted through the bolt guide hole and coupled to the bolt fastening hole.
[0080] The detailed structure of the bolt fastening structure (B) is not limited as such. The bolt fastening hole may be formed in the second slot die block (5), and the bolt guide hole may be formed in the first slot die block (3). In addition, various bolt fastening structures (B) known in the art may be employed.
[0081] The coating liquid discharged from the slot die coater (1) can be continuously discharged onto the surface of the substrate (D) transported by the roller (R).
[0082] Fig. 8 is a drawing showing a first spacer core (10) and a second spacer core (20) included in a slot die coater (1) according to the present invention. Fig. 9 is a drawing showing a slot die coater (1) according to the present invention coating a substrate (D).
[0083] Referring to FIGS. 8 and 9, the slot die coater (1) may include a plurality of first spacer shims (10) and second spacer shims (20). The slot die coater (1) may include seven first spacer shims (10) and six second spacer shims (20). The first spacer shims (10) and the second spacer shims (20) may be arranged at regular intervals along the X-axis direction.
[0084] A slot die coater (1) can simultaneously form a first coating layer (C1) corresponding to the number of first spacer cores (10) * 2 and a second coating layer (C2) corresponding to the number of second spacer cores (20) * 1 on the surface of a substrate (D) progressing in the Y-axis direction along the progress direction of the substrate. However, the discharge trench (112) of the first spacer core (10) located at the outermost end can be formed to be blocked.
[0085] According to this structure, at least a portion of the second coating liquid discharged from the second spacer core (20) flows into the inlet (120) of the adjacent first spacer core (10), so that the first coating liquid and the second coating liquid can be coated simultaneously while in contact with each other. When the second coating layer (C2) at the center and the first coating layer (C1) in contact with the second coating layer (C2) at both sides are referred to as one coating layer set, six coating layer sets can be coated, and approximately the center of the second coating layer (C2) and the center of the adjacent coating layer set can be cut to produce 12 electrodes, which can be used in the production process of the electrode assembly.
[0086] Below, a coating method using a slot die coater (1) is described.
[0087] A coating method according to the present invention may include the steps of: preparing a substrate (D) having a pair of short sides and a pair of long sides extending between a pair of short sides; preparing a slot die coater (1) according to the present invention; and using the slot die coater (1), a second coating liquid discharged from a second spacer core (20) at a predetermined interval along the long side direction (the direction parallel to the X-axis) on one surface of the substrate (D) forms a plurality of second coating layers (C2), and a strip-shaped uncoated portion extending along the long side direction (the direction parallel to the X-axis) is formed between second coating layers (C2) adjacent in the short side direction (the direction parallel to the Y-axis), and at the same time, a first coating liquid discharged from a first spacer core (10) forms a first coating layer (C1) along the long side direction (the direction parallel to the X-axis) that covers the boundary between each second coating layer (C2) and the uncoated portion adjacent thereto with a predetermined width. In this coating method, the substrate (D) may be a metal foil current collector, the first coating layer (C1) may be an insulating coating layer, and the second coating layer (C2) may be an active material coating layer.
[0088] As described above, the present invention has been described with reference to the attached drawings, focusing on preferred embodiments. However, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that numerous obvious modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the present invention. Accordingly, the scope of the present invention should be construed as encompassing such numerous modifications by the appended claims.
