Abstract
Description
A resistive plate detector that reads the positive and negative signals using a differential amplifier, respectively.
[0001] The present invention relates to a resistive plate detector that reads a signal using a strip pair, and more particularly, to a technique for reducing the load and noise of a resistive plate detector applied to TOF (Time-of-flight) PET (Positron Emission Tomography).
[0002] [Cross-reference to related applications]
[0003] This application claims priority from Korean Patent Application No. 10-2023-0102167, filed August 4, 2023, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.
[0004] Positron Emission Tomography (PET) injects a drug containing a radioactive isotope that emits positrons into the body, and then tracks the location of positron emission using a detector outside the body.
[0005] This tracking allows for noninvasive assessment of a patient's condition by examining the activity of injected drugs within the body. Accordingly, PET technology is widely used in various medical tests to assess patients' conditions, including cancer, heart disease, brain disease, and brain function.
[0006] PET observes two gamma rays emitted in nearly 180° directions when positrons emitted from radioactive substances injected into the body collide with surrounding electrons and annihilate each other, obtaining data corresponding to the line integral of the positron distribution and using the data to calculate a positron distribution image.
[0007] Specifically, if two detectors of PET detect gamma rays originating from the same positron-electron collision at times t1 and t2, it means that there was a positron on the line-of-response (LOR) connecting the two detectors, and thus the line integral value of the positron distribution on the corresponding line-of-response can be obtained.
[0008] Filtered backprojection (FBP) or expectation-maximization (EM) methods are widely used as methods for calculating a distribution image from the above line integral values.
[0009] A method to improve image reconstruction by more accurately estimating the position of the positron in the LOR using the time-of-flight (TOF) t=t1-t2 information observed from the detector has been studied since the early days of PET development, but it was difficult to realize due to the low time resolution of PET at the time.
[0010] Advances in PET technology since the 2000s have made it possible to apply this technology to image reconstruction using time-resolution. Currently, pixels are used to acquire signals from resistive plate detectors with high time resolution.
[0011] However, when trying to achieve the desired position resolution on a plane with a resistive plate detector, the pixel method requires a very large number of channels (n∝x×y), which causes problems of large load and noise.
[0012] Accordingly, the technical problem of the present invention is conceived from this point, and the purpose of the present invention is to provide a resistance plate detector that reads positive and negative signals using a differential amplifier, respectively, to reduce load and noise.
[0013] According to one embodiment of the present invention for realizing the above-described object, a resistive plate detector for reading positive and negative signals using a differential amplifier comprises: a plurality of first positive (+) signal strips formed in a strip shape extending in a first direction on a first surface of a first substrate and arranged parallel to each other; a plurality of first negative (-) signal strips formed in the same shape as the first positive signal strips on a second surface opposite the first surface of the first substrate and arranged in pairs opposite to the corresponding first positive signal strips and parallel to each other in the first direction; and a plurality of first ground strips formed in the same shape between the plurality of first positive signal strips and the plurality of first negative signal strips and arranged parallel to each other in the first direction; wherein output signals of a corresponding pair of first positive signal strips and first negative signal strips are input to a single differential amplifier.
[0014] In an embodiment of the present invention, the plurality of first positive signal strips, the plurality of first negative signal strips, and the plurality of first ground strips may be formed with the same shape, the same width, the same length, the same thickness, and the same spacing, respectively.
[0015] In an embodiment of the present invention, the plurality of first positive signal strips, the plurality of first negative signal strips and the plurality of first ground strips may be formed with the same shape, the same width, the same length, the same thickness and the same spacing.
[0016] In an embodiment of the present invention, each of the first positive signal strip and the first negative signal strip may have at least one resistor element and at least one capacitor element connected to both ends.
[0017] In an embodiment of the present invention, the width and spacing of the plurality of first positive signal strips and the plurality of first negative signal strips can be adjusted according to the target input impedance of the differential amplifier.
[0018] In an embodiment of the present invention, a resistive plate detector for reading positive and negative signals with a differential amplifier may further include: a plurality of second positive signal strips formed in a strip shape on a first surface of a second substrate spaced apart from a first surface of a first substrate and arranged parallel to each other; a plurality of second negative signal strips formed in the same shape as the second positive signal strips on a second surface opposite the first surface of the second substrate and arranged parallel to each other while facing each corresponding second positive signal strip in pairs; and a plurality of second ground strips formed in the same shape between the plurality of second positive signal strips and the plurality of second negative signal strips and arranged parallel to each other.
[0019] In an embodiment of the present invention, the plurality of second positive signal strips, the plurality of second negative signal strips and the plurality of second ground strips may extend in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction.
[0020] In an embodiment of the present invention, the output signals of a corresponding pair of second positive signal strips and second negative signal strips are input to one differential amplifier, and the width and spacing of the plurality of second positive signal strips and the plurality of second negative signal strips can be adjusted according to the target input impedance of the differential amplifier.
[0021] In an embodiment of the present invention, the plurality of first positive signal strips, the plurality of first negative signal strips, the plurality of second positive signal strips, the plurality of second negative signal strips, the plurality of first ground strips, and the plurality of second ground strips may each have at least one of a rectangular shape, a shape in which both ends of the rectangular shape are narrowed into triangles, and a shape in which one end of the rectangular shape is narrowed obliquely.
[0022] In an embodiment of the present invention, a resistive plate detector that reads positive and negative signals using a differential amplifier can be applied to TOF (Time-of-flight) PET (Positron Emission Tomography).
[0023] According to the resistive plate detector that reads the positive and negative signals respectively with a differential amplifier, the load and noise of the signal can be reduced, thereby improving the performance of the applied TOF-PET.

[0037] Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to the drawings.
[0038] FIG. 1 is a schematic perspective view illustrating a resistive plate detector that reads positive and negative signals using a differential amplifier, respectively, according to one embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 2 is a detailed perspective view of the resistive plate detector of FIG. 1.
[0039] The resistive plate detector (1) according to the present invention is a device that outputs a signal for finding the position of a positron by applying it to TOF-PET (Time-of-flight Positron Emission Tomography). The resistive plate detector (1) may be a separate device from TOF-PET or may be a module of the device.
[0040] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, a resistance plate detector (1) according to the present invention includes a plurality of positive (+) signal strips (110) and a plurality of negative (-) signal strips (130) formed in pairs on each side of a first substrate (10), and a plurality of ground strips (120) corresponding to each positive signal strip (110) and negative signal strip (130).
[0041] A plurality of first positive signal strips (110), a plurality of first negative signal strips (130) and a plurality of first ground strips (120) extend in one direction (the first direction) and are arranged parallel to each other.
[0042] The output signals of the first positive signal strip (110) and the first negative signal strip (130) forming a pair are each used as inputs of one differential amplifier. The width and spacing of the plurality of first positive signal strips (110) and the plurality of first negative signal strips (130) can be adjusted according to the target input impedance of the differential amplifier.
[0043] In the present invention, the plurality of first ground strips (120) are not in a single flat shape but in the shape of strips, so that the signal does not spread widely from the ground but exits in a straight line along the ground strip, thereby reducing interference between channels and reducing signal noise.
[0044] For convenience, the first substrate (10) is referred to as the x-plane, and the second substrate (30) is referred to as the y-plane. The first substrate (10) has a second surface (13) opposite the first surface (11), and the second substrate (30) has a second surface (31) opposite the first surface (33).
[0045] For example, the first substrate (10) and the second substrate (30) may be PCB (Printed Circuit Board) substrates having a dielectric constant ε and a constant thickness (d). The first substrate (10) and the second substrate (30) may be single-layered or multi-layered. In addition, the first substrate (10) and the second substrate (30) may be formed parallel to each other at a constant distance (D).
[0046] In the present invention, the upper surface of the first substrate (10) is defined as the first surface (11), and the lower surface is defined as the second surface (13). In addition, the lower surface of the second substrate (30) facing the first surface (11) of the first substrate (10) is defined as the first surface (33), and the upper surface of the second substrate (30) is defined as the second surface (31). However, the above definitions are defined as examples for the convenience of explanation, and the upper, lower, left, and right of the substrate or surface may be changed according to location, selection, and need.
[0047] A plurality of first positive signal strips (110) are formed in a strip shape extending in the x-axis direction on the first surface (11) of the first substrate (10) and are arranged parallel to each other.
[0048] A plurality of first positive signal strips (110) may be formed in an extended rectangular shape or a modified shape thereof, and may be formed with the same shape, same width (w), same length (l), and same thickness (t). In addition, a plurality of first positive signal strips (110) may be formed at equal intervals on the first surface (11) of the first substrate (10).
[0049] For example, the width (w) of the first positive signal strip (110) may be 4 mm, the length (l) of the first signal strip (110) may be 160 mm, the thickness (t) of the first signal strip (110) may be 0.5 Oz, and the spacing of the first signal strips (110) may be 1 mm. However, these dimensions may be changed depending on the design.
[0050] A plurality of first negative signal strips (130) are formed on the second surface (13) of the first substrate (10) in the same shape as the plurality of first positive signal strips (110), and are arranged to face each corresponding first positive signal strip in pairs.
[0051] In other words, the first positive signal strip (110) and the first negative signal strip (130) formed on the first substrate (10) can be formed to correspond to each other on opposite sides of the overlapping position by matching one to one. For example, a total of 32 pairs of corresponding first positive signal strips (110) and first negative signal strips (130) can be formed, thereby forming 32 channels.
[0052] Likewise, a plurality of first negative signal strips (130) are formed in a strip shape extending in the x-axis direction on the second surface (13) of the first substrate (10) and are arranged parallel to each other.
[0053] A plurality of first negative signal strips (130) may be formed in an extended rectangular shape or a modified shape thereof, and may be formed with the same shape, same width (w), same length (l), and same thickness (t). In addition, a plurality of first negative signal strips (130) may be formed at equal intervals on the second surface (13) of the first substrate (10).
[0054] A plurality of first ground strips (120) are formed in a strip shape extending in the x-axis direction inside the first substrate (10) and are arranged parallel to each other.
[0055] The plurality of first ground strips (120) may be formed in an extended rectangular shape or a modified shape thereof, and may be formed with the same shape, same width (w), same length (l), and same thickness (t). In addition, the plurality of first ground strips (120) may be formed at equal intervals.
[0056] In one embodiment, the first positive signal strip (110), the first negative signal strip (130), and the first ground strip (120) formed on the first substrate (10) may all be formed to overlap with the same shape and size in the x-axis direction.
[0057] In this embodiment, for convenience, it has been described that a plurality of first positive signal strips (110) are formed on the first surface (11) of the first substrate (10) and a plurality of first negative signal strips (130) are formed on the second surface (13) of the first substrate (10). However, conversely, a plurality of first positive signal strips (110) may be formed on the second surface (13) and a plurality of first negative signal strips (130) may be formed on the first surface (11).
[0058]
[0059] As an example, the second substrate (30) may further include a plurality of second positive signal strips (330) and a plurality of second negative signal strips (310) formed on opposite sides, respectively.
[0060] Similarly, second ground strips (320) may be formed between the corresponding second positive signal strips (330) and the second negative signal strips (310).
[0061] A plurality of second positive signal strips (330), a plurality of second negative signal strips (310) and a plurality of second ground strips (320) extend in one direction (the second direction) and are arranged parallel to each other.
[0062] In one embodiment, a plurality of second positive signal strips (330), a plurality of second negative signal strips (310), and a plurality of second ground strips (320) formed on the second substrate (30) may be formed in a second direction that is perpendicular to the first direction.
[0063] The output signals of the second positive signal strip (330) and the second negative signal strip (310) forming a pair are each used as inputs of one differential amplifier. The width and spacing of the plurality of second positive signal strips (330) and the plurality of second negative signal strips (310) can be adjusted according to the target input impedance of the differential amplifier.
[0064] The plurality of second positive signal strips (330) may be formed in an extended rectangular shape or a modified shape thereof, similar to the plurality of first positive signal strips (110), and may be formed with the same shape, same width (w), same length (l), and same thickness (t). In addition, the plurality of second positive signal strips (330) may be formed at equal intervals on the first surface (33) of the second substrate (30).
[0065] In one embodiment, the plurality of second positive signal strips (330) may be formed with the same shape, same width (w), same length (l), and same thickness (t) as the plurality of first positive signal strips (110).
[0066] A plurality of second negative signal strips (310) are formed on the second surface (31) of the second substrate (30) in the same shape as the plurality of second positive signal strips (330), and are arranged to face each of the corresponding second positive signal strips (330) in pairs.
[0067] In other words, the second positive signal strip (330) and the second negative signal strip (310) formed on the second substrate (30) can be formed to correspond to each other on opposite sides of the overlapping position by matching one to one. For example, a total of 32 pairs of corresponding second positive signal strips (330) and second negative signal strips (310) can be formed, thereby forming 32 channels.
[0068] Likewise, a plurality of second negative signal strips (310) may be formed in a strip shape extending in the y-axis direction on the second surface (31) of the second substrate (30) and may be arranged parallel to each other.
[0069] A plurality of second negative signal strips (310) may be formed in an extended rectangular shape or a modified shape thereof, and may be formed with the same shape, same width (w), same length (l), and same thickness (t). In addition, a plurality of second negative signal strips (310) may be formed at equal intervals on the second surface (31) of the second substrate (30).
[0070] In one embodiment, the plurality of second negative signal strips (310) may be formed with the same shape, same width (w), same length (l), and same thickness (t) as the plurality of first negative signal strips (130).
[0071] A plurality of second ground strips (320) are formed in a strip shape extending in the y-axis direction inside the second substrate (30) and are arranged parallel to each other.
[0072] The plurality of second ground strips (320) may be formed in an extended rectangular shape or a modified shape thereof, and may be formed with the same shape, same width (w), same length (l), and same thickness (t). In addition, the plurality of second ground strips (320) may be formed at equal intervals.
[0073] In one embodiment, the plurality of second ground strips (320) may be formed with the same shape, same width (w), same length (l), and same thickness (t) as the plurality of first ground strips (120).
[0074] In one embodiment, the second positive signal strip (330), the second negative signal strip (310), and the second ground strip (320) formed on the second substrate (30) may all be formed to overlap with the same shape and size in the y-axis direction.
[0075] In this embodiment, for convenience, it has been described that a plurality of second positive signal strips (330) are formed on the first surface (33) of the second substrate (30) and a plurality of second negative signal strips (310) are formed on the second surface (31) of the second substrate (30). However, conversely, a plurality of second positive signal strips (330) may be formed on the second surface (31) and a plurality of second negative signal strips (310) may be formed on the first surface (33).
[0076]
[0077] FIG. 3 is an exemplary cross-sectional circuit diagram of the resistance plate detector of FIG. 2, and FIG. 4 is an exemplary planar circuit diagram of the resistance plate detector of FIG. 2.
[0078] Although FIGS. 3 and 4 represent the first substrate (10), the second substrate (30) may also have the same configuration and may be applied to the following description.
[0079] Referring to FIGS. 3 and 4, each of the first positive signal strip (110) and the first negative signal strip (130) may have at least one resistor element and at least one capacitor element connected to both ends.
[0080] In other words, a capacitor (C11) and a resistor (R11) may be connected to one end of the first positive signal strip (110), and a capacitor (C12) and a resistor (R12) may be connected to the other end. In addition, a capacitor (C21) and a resistor (R21) may be connected to one end of the first negative signal strip (130), and a capacitor (C22) and a resistor (R22) may be connected to the other end.
[0081] Although FIGS. 3 and 4 illustrate the first positive signal strip (110) and the first negative signal strip (130), the second positive signal strip (330) and the second negative signal strip (310) may also be connected to a resistor and a capacitor. In addition, two or more resistor elements or capacitor elements may be connected, and their positions may also be changed.
[0082]
[0083] Figures 5 to 7 are examples of the shapes of the strips of Figure 2.
[0084] In the present invention, the first positive signal strip (110) may have a rectangular shape extending in one direction or a modified shape thereof.
[0085] FIG. 5 illustrates that the first positive signal strip (110) has a rectangular shape, and FIG. 7 illustrates that the first positive signal strip (110) has a shape in which one end is obliquely narrowed.
[0086] Fig. 7 has a shape in which both ends are narrowed into triangles. In this case, refraction caused by a change in width when a signal is transmitted through a trace can be reduced.
[0087] Although the first positive signal strip (110) is representatively illustrated in FIGS. 5 to 7, the same can be applied to the first negative signal strip (130), the first ground strip (120), the second positive signal strip (330), the second negative signal strip (310), and the second ground strip (320).
[0088]
[0089] Fig. 8 is a schematic plan view of the resistance plate detector of Fig. 2.
[0090] Referring to Fig. 8, the first substrate (10) and the second substrate (30) may each further include connectors. The connectors may be formed in extensions of the first substrate (10) and the second substrate (30), and the positions shown in Fig. 8 are exemplary, and the design of changing the positions is freely possible.
[0091] Capacitors (C11, C12, C21, C22), resistors (R11, R12, R21, R22), etc. formed at both ends of the signal straps are connected to a differential amplifier (not shown). The differential amplifier, capacitors (C11, C12, C21, C22), resistors (R11, R12, R21, R22), etc. may be formed on connectors formed on the first substrate (10) and the second substrate (30).
[0092] The width and spacing of the signal straps can be adjusted according to the target input impedance of the differential amplifier.
[0093] According to a resistive plate detector that reads positive and negative signals using a differential amplifier, inter-channel interference can be reduced by forming a ground strip separately from the signal strip. This reduces noise in the resistive plate detector and improves the performance of the applied TOF-PET.
[0094] Although the present invention has been described above with reference to embodiments, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various modifications and changes can be made to the present invention without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention as set forth in the claims below.
[0095] Initially limited to applications such as Parkinson's disease research, positron emission tomography (PET) operates based on crystal scintillators and optical intensifiers. This device is increasingly being used for cancer diagnosis. Time-of-flight PET and whole-body PET, which incorporate time-of-flight measurement capabilities, are being developed, but these are very expensive.
[0096] Recently, the possibility of manufacturing high-performance TOF-PET devices at low cost by replacing the crystal scintillator and optical amplifier with a resistive plate detector has been revealed. Therefore, it is expected that applying the resistive plate detector of the present invention to TOF-PET devices will enable the production of low-cost, high-performance devices.
