[0010] The present disclosure describes, among other things, package for a cosmetic formulation. The package includes a mixing apparatus to help mix components of the cosmetic formulation in the package, such as prior to application of the cosmetic formulation by a consumer. This can be helpful when the cosmetic formulation contains components that separate over time.
[0011] Some cosmetic formulations separate over time creating different visible layers inside the cosmetic package. For example, some formulas show rapid separation (e.g., exudation) in bulk that are often hidden by an opaque printed band on the package. In such a case, the consumer may agitate or shake the package the mix the lip color formulation and make the formulation homogenous before use of the formulation. Separation of the cosmetic formulation can be perceived as low quality by consumer.
[0012] Here, a cosmetic formulation package can have a built-in mixing system for the consumer to mix the cosmetic formulation before application. The mixing system can beintegral with the package. The mixing system can include a helical impeller that can be rotated inside the package, either when the package is open or closed. The impeller can be rotated by the consumer through use of a knob, such as at the base of the package. This can help agitate the cosmetic formulation to make it homogenous and ready for application. The impeller can be cored to allow inserted and removal of an applicator, such as a wand, in the package.
[0013] The cosmetic formulation package discussed herein can allow for easy mixing prior to consumer application of the formulation. The package can have a built-in apparatus that helps to easily mix the components of the formulation, without interfering with the normal application of the lip color composition. The mixing apparatus can be easy for the consumer to use.
[0014] FIG. 1 illustrates a perspective view of a package 100. FIG. 2 illustrates a side view of the package 100. FIG. 3 illustrates an exploded view of the package 100. FIGS. 1 to 3 will be discussed together.
[0015] The package 100 can include cap 110 with applicator 113 made of wand 112 and application portion 114, wiper 116, mixing apparatus 120 with cylindrical guides 122 and helix 124, base 126, and cylindrical container 130 with grooves 132. The package 100 can be used to hold a cosmetic formulation, such as a liquid lip color (e.g., gloss, stain, or oil), or other cosmetic formulation. The package 100 with the mixing apparatus 120 can allow for easy mixing of components of the cosmetic formulation when a consumer is ready to apply the cosmetic formulation.
[0016] The cylindrical container 130 can be, for example, a bottle or other container for holding the cosmetic formulation. The cylindrical container 130 can have a first end 131 and a second end 133 opposite each other at either end of the cylindrical shape. The cylindrical container 130 can have a hollow body 135 for holding the cosmetic formulation. A central axis A can run along the cylindrical container 130 from the first end 131 to the second end 133. The cylindrical container 130 can have a diameter and length suitable for a desired amount of cosmetic formulation. The cylindrical container 130 can be made of polypropylene or polyethylene terephthalate in an example.
[0017] The cap 110 can be sized and shaped for attachment to the first end 131 of the cylindrical container 130. The cap 110 can be used to open and close the cylindrical container 130, such as when a consumer would like to use the cosmetic formulation therein. The cap110 can be, for example, a cap removable by twisting, threating, snapping, or other appropriate methods. The cap 110 can be made of a polypropylene in an example.
[0018] The applicator 113 can be attached to and extending from the cap 110. The applicator 113 can be sized and shape for insertion into the cylindrical container 130 hollow body 135 when the cap 110 is secured to the cylindrical container 130. In some cases, the applicator 113 can be integral with the cap 110. In some cases, the applicator 113 can be detachable from the cap 110.
[0019] The applicator 113 can include the wand 112 and the application portion 114. In some cases, the wand 112 and the application portion 114 can be integral. In some cases, the wand 112 and the application portion 114 can be two separate pieces. The wand 112 can extend outward from the cap 110 and can optionally include a hole 111 for attachment to the application portion 114. The application portion 114 can be a sponge, brush, mascara brush, other brush, or another kind of applicator. The application portion 114 can be, in an example, a doe-foot shaped applicator. In an example, the application portion 114 can be ceramic or stainless steel.
[0020] The wiper 116 can be integral with or attached to the cylindrical container 130. The wiper 116 can be, for example, made of polyethylene. The wiper 116 can be used to help reduce the amount of the cosmetic formulation picked up with the applicator 113, such as by wiping or scraping a portion of the formulation off the applicator 113 when a consumer lifts the applicator 113 out of the cylindrical container 130.
[0021] The base 126 can attached to the cylindrical container 130 by the grooves 132 at the second end 133. The base 126 can serve as an end for the package 100. In the package 100, the base 126 can also act as a rotatable knob. A consumer can rotate the base 126, such as in the direction B, to actuate the mixing apparatus 120. The inside of the base 126 can include one or more ribs, textures, or protrusions configured to engage with corresponding portions of the mixing apparatus 120 to engage and rotate the mixing apparatus 120. For example, the base 126 can be shaped such that it “clicks” when rotated by a consumer and indicates rotation of the mixing apparatus 120 in the package 100 when clicking.
[0022] Ribs on the outside of the base 126 can indicate to the consumer what and where to turn. The grooves 132 on the second end 133 of the cylindrical container 130 can allow for the base 126 to snap securely to the cylindrical container 130.
[0023] The mixing apparatus 120 can be used by a consumer to manually mix the cosmetic formulation in the cylindrical container 130 in a direction B around the axis A. Insome cases, the mixing apparatus 120 can be activated in a clockwise direction, in some cases, the mixing apparatus 120 can be activated in a counterclockwise direction.
[0024] The mixing apparatus 120 can include a rotating impeller inside the package 100. When rotated, the impeller can mix the cosmetic formulation therein. The rotating impeller can be rotated by activation of a manual rotational driver, such as one in the base126 of the package 100. For example, the ribs 128 on the cylindrical guides 122 can be shaped to engage with the base 126 such that when the base 126 is rotated, the cylindrical guides 122 is rotated.
[0025] The rotating impeller can be, for example, in the shape of a helix or a double helix, such as the helix 124. In some cases, multiple helixes can be used. Height and pitch of the one or more helixes can be adjusted based on the desired mixing.
[0026] The helix 124 can, for example, have one or more ribbon-like shapes winding in the helical pattern. The ribbon-like shapes can have one or more flat edges that aid in collecting and mixing the cosmetic formulation when the helix 124 is rotated. The helix 124 can help collect any separated portions of the cosmetic formulation, and when rotated, mix them back together. The rotating impeller can rotate when the consumer rotates a knob serving as the base 126 for the package 100. The rotation of the helix 124 inside the package can help quickly mix the formulation inside.
[0027] The cylindrical guides 122 can run through the middle of the helix 124, such as along the axis A. The cylindrical guides 122 can allow for insertion and removal of the applicator 113 into the package 100 despite the mixing apparatus 120. The helix 124 can be formed around the cylindrical guides 122. The cylindrical guides 122 in the center of the helix 124 can allow the applicator 113 to go through the helix 124 and not interfere during mixing.
[0028] The flexible friction disks 127 on the bottom of the mixing apparatus 120 can be used to help insert the mixing apparatus 120 into the base 126. The flexible friction disks127 can help seal the base 126 to the flexible friction disks 127 while still allowing rotation of the mixing apparatus 120 therein. The disks 127 can provide an airtight seal on the bottom of the package 100.
[0029] The package 100 cylindrical container 130 can be, for example, a clear bottle, so that a consumer can see the results of missing the cosmetic formulation therein. Mixing the cosmetic formulation in the cylindrical container 130 with the mixing apparatus 120 can bedone either when the package 100 is open or when the package 100 is closed. If mixed when the package 100 is closed, the applicator 113 can be inserted into the cylindrical guides 122.
[0030] The cosmetic formulation in the package 100 can be a variety of types, such as a lip color or treatment, lip gloss, lip oil, lip tint, a face cosmetic formulation, such as a concealer, foundation, liquid blush, liquid bronzer, liquid highlighter, brow gel, mascara, eye shadow, or other cosmetic makeup formulation. In some cases, the cosmetic formulation can be a skin care formulation, such as an eye serum.
[0031] The package 100 and its components can be made of a variety of polymers or plastics, such as polyethylene, polypropylene, or other suitable materials. The package 100 and its components can be made through a mold process, such as injection molding. The package 100 can be made through a printing process, such as a three-dimensional printing method.Various Notes & Examples
