Abstract
Description
Component mounting system, reel holding device, and carrier tape supply method
[0001] The present invention relates to a component mounting system equipped with a tape feeder that feeds components to a component removal position by conveying a carrier tape, a reel holding device that holds a reel in the component mounting system, and a method for replenishing carrier tape.
[0002] Conventionally, a component mounting system has been known that includes a tape feeder that transports components to a component removal position by conveying a carrier tape, a component mounting head that picks up the components transported to the component removal position and mounts them on a board, and a reel holding device that holds a reel (see, for example, Patent Document 1 listed below). The reel holding device described in Patent Document 1 includes a reel holding unit that holds a reel adjacent to the tape feeder (component supply unit). The reel holding unit has, in the direction in which the reel and the tape feeder are aligned (front-to-back direction), a first reel holding section that holds the reel of carrier tape being pulled out by the tape feeder, and a second reel holding section that is located behind the first reel holding section (toward the operator) and holds a replenishment reel. When the carrier tape on the reel held in the first reel holding section runs out of components, the replenishment reel is moved from the second reel holding section to the first reel.
[0003] Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2022-169954
[0004] However, the conventional reel holding device described above has a problem in that the structure for transferring the reel from the first reel holding section to the second reel holding section is complex, which not only increases manufacturing costs but also makes the reel transfer process time-consuming.
[0005] SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a component mounting system and a reel holding device that can reduce manufacturing costs and enable easy and quick replenishing of carrier tapes.
[0006] The component mounting system of the present invention includes a tape feeder capable of simultaneously holding two carrier tapes containing components, feeding components to a component removal position by feeding a first carrier tape, and then feeding the components to the component removal position by feeding a second carrier tape after the first carrier tape has been fed, a reel holding device that holds a reel around which the carrier tape is wound, and a mounting head that picks up components from the component removal position and mounts them on a board. The reel holding device has a reel storage area that rotatably holds the reel, and a tape storage area located outside the reel storage area that can store the carrier tape from which the reel has been removed.
[0007] The reel holding device of the present invention is a reel holding device for a tape feeder that can simultaneously hold two carrier tapes containing components, feeds components to a component removal position by feeding a first carrier tape, and then feeds components to the component removal position by feeding a second carrier tape after the first carrier tape has been fed. The reel holding device has a reel storage area that rotatably holds a reel, and a tape storage area that is located outside the reel storage area and can store the carrier tape from which the reel has been removed.
[0008] The present invention provides a carrier tape supplying method for a component mounting system including a tape feeder capable of simultaneously holding two carrier tapes each containing a component, feeding components to a component removal position by feeding a first carrier tape, and then feeding the components to the component removal position by feeding a second carrier tape after the feeding, a reel holding device that holds a reel around which the carrier tape is wound, and a mounting head that picks up components from the component removal position and mounts them on a board, the method being performed when the tape feeder is only holding the carrier tape that has been unwound from the reel in a reel housing area of the reel holding device. The method includes removing the reel from the reel housing area and detaching the reel from the carrier tape, storing the carrier tape from which the reel has been detached in a tape housing area located outside the reel housing area, storing a reel around which a replenishment carrier tape is wound in the reel housing area, and having the tape feeder hold the replenishment carrier tape unwound from the reel.
[0009] According to the present invention, the manufacturing cost can be reduced and the carrier tape supplying operation can be carried out easily and in a short time.

[0011] An embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. Fig. 1 shows a component mounting system 1 according to one embodiment of the present invention. The component mounting system 1 is a system that produces mounted boards by carrying in and positioning a board KB in a horizontal direction, mounting components BH on the board KB, and then carrying it out.
[0012] 1, the component mounting system 1 of this embodiment includes a component mounting device 1A, a component supply device 1B, and a reel holding device 1C. In this embodiment, for ease of explanation, the left-right direction (direction perpendicular to the plane of the paper in FIG. 1), which is the transport direction of the board KB, is referred to as the X direction, and the direction perpendicular to the X direction in a horizontal plane (front-rear direction) is referred to as the Y direction. The up-down direction is referred to as the Z direction. Furthermore, the side of the Y direction facing the positioned board KB (the side facing from the left side to the right side of the paper in FIG. 1) is referred to as the "front," and the side away from the board KB (the side facing from the right side to the left side of the paper in FIG. 1) is referred to as the "rear."
[0013] 1, the component mounting device 1A includes a board transport unit 11, a mounting head 12, and a head moving mechanism 13. The board transport unit 11 includes a pair of transport conveyors 11a spaced apart in the Y direction and extending in the X direction. The board transport unit 11 transports the board KB in the X direction using the pair of transport conveyors 11a and positions it at a predetermined working position. The mounting head 12 includes a nozzle 12N extending downward. The mounting head 12 can generate a vacuum suction force at the lower end of the nozzle 12N. The head moving mechanism 13 is, for example, an XY table mechanism, and moves the mounting head 12 in the XY plane.
[0014] 1, the component supplying device 1B includes a feeder cart 21 and a tape feeder 22. On top of the feeder cart 21, a table-like feeder base 21F extending in the X direction is provided.
[0015] The tape feeder 22 functions as a component supply unit in the component mounting system 1 and is detachably mounted on the feeder base 21F. The tape feeder 22 pulls in the carrier tape CT wound around the reel RL through the tape inlet 22G and transports it forward, sending and supplying the components BH to the component removal position 22K on the front end side. The carrier tape CT is a conventionally known type and has a configuration in which a plurality of components BH arranged in a row are individually enclosed on a tape-shaped base member.
[0016] When the leading end of the carrier tape CT is inserted into the tape inlet 22G, the tape feeder 22 detects this with a sensor (not shown), and then automatically starts transporting the carrier tape CT upon receiving a command from a control unit (not shown) included in the component mounting device 1A.
[0017] The tape feeder 22 in this embodiment is a so-called auto-load type tape feeder, and up to two carrier tapes CT, including a replenishment carrier tape CT, can be inserted into the tape inlet 22G. The tape feeder 22 starts feeding the first carrier tape CT (first carrier tape) forward as soon as it detects that the leading end of the carrier tape CT has been inserted into the tape inlet 22G, and starts feeding the second (replenishment) carrier tape CT (second carrier tape) forward after ejecting the trailing end of the first carrier tape CT. This allows the tape feeder 22 to continue supplying components BH as long as the replenishment carrier tape CT is inserted into the tape inlet 22G.
[0018] In this way, the tape feeder 22 in this embodiment is capable of holding two carrier tapes CT simultaneously, and by transporting one carrier tape CT forward, it sends a component BH to the component removal position 22K, and then by transporting the other carrier tape CT forward, it sends a component BH to the component removal position 22K.
[0019] When component mounting device 1A performs a component mounting operation, first, it operates board transport unit 11 to carry in board KB and position it at the work position. After board KB is positioned at the work position, it issues a command to tape feeder 22 to operate tape feeder 22 and start supplying components BH to component removal position 22K.
[0020] After the component mounting device 1A causes the tape feeder 22 to start supplying components BH, it moves the mounting head 12 back and forth between a position above the tape feeder 22 and a position above the board. When the mounting head 12 is above the tape feeder 22, it generates a vacuum suction force at the lower end of the nozzle 12N, causing the nozzle 12N to pick up (pick up) the components BH supplied by the tape feeder 22. When the mounting head 12 is above the board KB, it releases the suction of the components BH and mounts them on the board KB. When all of the components BH to be mounted on the board KB have been mounted by the mounting head 12 repeatedly performing this transfer operation consisting of suction and mounting of the components BH, the component mounting device 1A then operates the board transport unit 11 to transport the board KB to the outside. This completes the component mounting operation for one board KB.
[0021] Next, the reel holding device 1C will be described. The reel holding device 1C is a device that holds a reel RL around which a carrier tape CT is wound, at a position adjacent to the tape feeder 22. As shown in Figures 2 and 3 (Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along the line V-V in Figure 2), the reel holding device 1C includes a carriage 31 as a storage section holder and a plurality of storage sections 32 held by the carriage 31.
[0022] 2, the bogie 31 has a configuration in which two bogie halves 31H arranged on the left and right are connected to each other. As also shown in Fig. 3, each bogie half 31H has a bogie base 41 extending in the Y direction (front-rear direction) and two support columns (a front support column 42 and a rear support column 43) extending upward from the bogie base 41 and arranged on the front and rear sides, and the upper part of the front support column 42 and the upper part of the rear support column 43 are connected by a beam member 44 extending in the Y direction above the bogie base 41.
[0023] The two carriage halves 31H are connected by a plurality of connecting beams 45 extending in the X direction, and the carriage 31 has an overall box-shaped frame structure. Wheels 46 are provided on the underside of the front and rear of each carriage base 41, and an operator can operate the carriage 31 (i.e., the reel holding device 1C) on the floor surface FL to travel the carriage 31. In this embodiment, the carriage 31 is installed in a position close to the feeder cart 21 (i.e., the tape feeder 22).
[0024] 2, the multiple storage sections 32 are attached to the carriage 31 while being aligned in the X direction (the left-right direction perpendicular to the direction of transport of the carrier tape CT by the tape feeder 22). Each storage section 32 has a configuration in which a pair of guide plates 51 are arranged opposite each other in the X direction at a distance greater than the thickness (X direction dimension) of the reel RL, and are connected by multiple spacers 52 extending in the thickness direction of the reel RL (see FIGS. 3 and 4).
[0025] 3 and 4, each guide plate 51 has a shape that spreads along the YZ plane (i.e., the plane along which the reel RL unwinds the carrier tape CT), and a plurality of spacers 52 connect both front and rear ends of each of the two guide plates 51. As a result, the accommodation section 32 is configured to have an internal space 53 that opens upward and into which the reel RL can be inserted.
[0026] 3 and 4, a partitioning means 54 is provided between the two guide plates 51 to divide the internal space 53 into a rear reel storage area 53A and a front tape storage area 53B. The partitioning means 54 is made of a partition member that extends substantially vertically in the internal space 53 between the two guide plates 51, and its lower portion is formed into a curved shape that forms a gentle arc toward the front. The curved lower portion of the partitioning means 54 functions as a bottom 54T (FIG. 3) of the tape storage area 53B. A plurality of reel receivers 55 made of roller members or the like are provided in the reel storage area 53A.
[0027] As described above, in this embodiment, the reel holding device 1C includes a storage section 32 having a reel storage area 53A and a tape storage area 53B, and a carriage 31 serving as a storage section holder, in which a plurality of storage sections 32 are arranged in a left-right direction perpendicular to the transport direction of the carrier tape CT by the tape feeder 22. That is, the reel storage area 53A and the tape storage area 53B constitute the storage section 32. The storage section 32 includes a pair of guide plates 51 arranged opposite each other at a distance greater than the thickness (width dimension) of the reel RL, and a reel receiver 55 that supports the outer edge of the reel RL within the reel storage area 53A at the rear of the internal space 53 formed between the pair of guide plates 51. In this embodiment, the storage section 32 further includes a partitioning means 54 between the pair of guide plates 51 that partitions the internal space 53 into the reel storage area 53A and the tape storage area 53B. The storage section 32 may be configured without the partitioning means 54 to reduce weight.
[0028] The reel RL is inserted from above into the reel housing area 53A of the housing section 32 (FIG. 5). The outer edge of the reel RL inserted into the reel housing area 53A is supported by a plurality of reel receivers 55 (see also FIG. 3). The reel RL housed in the reel housing area 53A is positioned so that the leading end CTT of the wound carrier tape CT can be inserted into the tape inlet 22G of the tape feeder 22 located in front of it.
[0029] 5, at least two of the reel holders 55, which abut against the lower edge of the reel RL and support the reel RL from below, are positioned so as to sandwich the center of gravity GV of the reel RL from the front and rear while supporting the reel RL. Therefore, the reel RL inserted into the reel housing area 53A can rotate (spin on its axis) within the reel housing area 53A.
[0030] The multiple reel receivers 55 are positioned so that they can support multiple types of reels RL with different outer diameters. Regardless of the size of the reel RL being supported, at least two reel receivers 55 supporting the underside of the reel RL are positioned so that they sandwich the center of gravity GV of the reel RL from the front and rear. This allows the reel RL to rotate within the reel housing area 53A regardless of its size.
[0031] 1 and 5, tape storage area 53B provided in storage unit 32 is located below tape inlet 22G provided at the rear end of tape feeder 22 when carriage 31 is installed in a position close to feeder cart 21. Tape storage area 53B stores a portion including the end of carrier tape CT from which reel RL has been removed from carrier tape CT being pulled in by tape feeder 22 (FIG. 1; details will be described later).
[0032] In this way, the reel accommodating area 53A accommodates the reel RL, while the tape accommodating area 53B does not accommodate the reel RL but accommodates the carrier tape CT from which the reel RL has been removed. For this reason, the tape accommodating area 53B does not require as large a dimension in the front-to-rear direction as the reel accommodating area 53A, and as shown in Fig. 3, the tape accommodating area dimension LB, which is the maximum dimension in the front-to-rear direction of the tape accommodating area 53B (i.e., the direction in which the reel RL and the tape feeder 22 are aligned), is smaller than the reel accommodating area dimension LA, which is the maximum dimension in the front-to-rear direction of the reel accommodating area 53A.
[0033] Next, a procedure for causing the tape feeder 22 to continuously supply components will be described. First, the operator inserts a new reel RL into the reel storage area 53A of the storage section 32 of the reel holding device 1C (arrow A in FIG. 5). As a result, the outer edge, including the lower edge, of the reel RL is supported by the multiple reel receivers 55 provided in the reel storage area 53A, and the reel RL is stored in the reel storage area 53A (FIG. 5).
[0034] After storing the reel RL in the reel storage area 53A, the worker pulls out the leading portion CTT of the carrier tape CT from the reel RL. Then, the worker inserts the leading portion CTT of the pulled-out carrier tape CT into the tape inlet 22G of the tape feeder 22 located in front of (above and in front of) the reel RL (FIG. 6). The worker may also remove the leading portion CTT of the carrier tape CT from the reel RL and insert it into the tape inlet 22G, and then store the reel RL in the reel storage area 53A.
[0035] When the tape feeder 22 detects that the leading end CTT of the carrier tape CT has been inserted into the tape inlet 22G, it pulls in the carrier tape CT and transports it forward, supplying the component BH to the component take-out position 22K, thereby enabling the component mounting device 1A to perform the component mounting operation.
[0036] The control unit of the component mounting device 1A is provided with a component counter (not shown) that counts the number of components BH removed from the component removal position 22K, and calculates the remaining number of components on the carrier tape CT being transported by the tape feeder 22 based on the number of supplied components BH counted by the component counter and the initial number of components on that carrier tape CT, which information has been obtained in advance. When the calculated remaining number of components on the carrier tape CT reaches a predetermined threshold, the control unit notifies the worker of this fact via a display device (not shown) such as a touch panel or a mobile terminal (not shown) provided in the component mounting device 1A, and instructs the worker to replace the reel RL.
[0037] The worker who has received the instruction to replace the reel RL removes from the reel housing area 53A the reel RL that is housed in the reel housing area 53A and from which the carrier tape CT is being pulled out by the tape feeder 22 (arrow B in FIG. 7 ).The worker then detaches the reel RL that has been removed from the reel housing area 53A from the carrier tape CT, thereby exposing the portion of the carrier tape CT that is being transported by the tape feeder 22, including the terminal end CTE (FIG. 8 ).
[0038] After exposing the portion of the carrier tape CT including the end end CTE, the worker does not return the reel RL removed from the carrier tape CT to the reel housing area 53A (arrow C in FIG. 8), but instead stores the exposed carrier tape CT (the portion including the end end CTE) in the tape housing area 53B located in front of the reel housing area 53A (FIG. 9). As shown in FIG. 9, the tape housing area 53B is located outside the reel housing area 53A. Thereafter, the tape feeder 22 draws in the carrier tape CT from the tape housing area 53B and continues the component supply operation.
[0039] As described above, the curved portion of the lower portion of the partitioning means 54 functions as the bottom 54T of the tape accommodating area 53B ( FIG. 3 ). Therefore, part of the weight of the carrier tape CT accommodated in the tape accommodating area 53B is supported by the accommodating section 32 through the partitioning means 54, reducing the load on the tape feeder 22 driving the carrier tape CT to transport the carrier tape CT. This maintains the operational performance of the tape feeder 22 at a level equivalent to when the carrier tape CT was wound on the reel RL. When accommodating the portion of the carrier tape CT from which the reel RL has been removed into the tape accommodating area 53B, the operator should ensure that the end CTE of the carrier tape CT spirals counterclockwise inward in FIG. 9 . This makes it easier for the tape feeder 22 to draw the carrier tape CT from the tape accommodating area 53B.
[0040] After storing the exposed portion of the carrier tape CT, including the end CTE, in the tape storage area 53B, the worker inserts a new reel RL for replenishment into the reel storage area 53A that has been vacant since the reel RL was removed (arrow D in FIG. 10). Once the reel RL is stored in the reel storage area 53A (FIG. 10), the worker pulls out the leading end CTT of the carrier tape CT from the reel RL in the manner described above, and inserts the pulled-out leading end CTT of the carrier tape CT into the tape inlet 22G of the tape feeder 22 (FIG. 11).
[0041] The tape feeder 22 transports the carrier tape CT housed in the tape housing area 53B and discharges the end CTE of the carrier tape CT to the outside, and then starts transporting the carrier tape CT that has been pulled out from the reel RL housed in the reel housing area 53A and whose leading end CTT is inserted into the tape inlet 22G. This state is the same as that shown in Figure 6 above, and by repeating the same operations thereafter, the tape feeder 22 can continue to supply components.
[0042] As described above, the reel holding device 1C provided in the component mounting system 1 in this embodiment has a reel accommodating area 53A that rotatably holds the reel RL, and a tape accommodating area 53B that is located in front of the reel accommodating area 53A and can accommodate the carrier tape CT from which the reel RL has been removed. The tape feeder 22 first sends the carrier tape CT accommodated in the tape accommodating area 53B to the component take-out position 22K, and when the carrier tape CT runs out, sends the carrier tape CT of the reel RL accommodated in the reel accommodating area 53A to the component take-out position 22K.
[0043] That is, the reel holding device 1C of this embodiment has only one storage area for the reel RL (reel storage area 53A), yet is able to perform the same functions as a conventional reel holding device that had two storage areas for the reel RL. Because the reel holding device 1C of this embodiment only requires one area for storing the reel RL (reel storage area 53A), the configuration can be simplified and the manufacturing costs can be reduced.
[0044] Furthermore, the method of replenishing the carrier tape CT in this embodiment includes a step of removing the reel RL from the reel accommodating area 53A and detaching the reel RL from the carrier tape CT (reel removing step), a step of storing the carrier tape CT from which the reel RL has been removed in the tape accommodating area 53B located in front of the reel accommodating area 53A (carrier tape storing step), and a step of storing the reel RL around which the replenishment carrier tape CT is wound in the reel accommodating area 53A and holding the replenishment carrier tape CT pulled out from the reel RL in the tape feeder 22 (replenishment carrier tape holding step).
[0045] With this reel holding device 1C and carrier tape CT supplying method, the carrier tape CT can be supplied without moving the reel RL forward (below the tape feeder 22), making it possible to easily and quickly supply the carrier tape CT. Furthermore, the tape accommodating area 53B is located below the tape inlet 22G through which the tape feeder 22 draws the carrier tape CT, and in addition, the maximum dimension (tape accommodating area dimension LB) of the tape accommodating area 53B in the front-to-rear direction (the direction in which the reel RL and the tape feeder 22 are aligned) is smaller than the maximum dimension (reel accommodating area dimension LA) of the reel accommodating area 53A in the front-to-rear direction, making it possible to make the reel holding device 1C compact.
[0046] As described above, according to the component mounting system 1 (the reel holding device 1C provided in the component mounting system 1) and the method for replenishing the carrier tape CT in this embodiment, only one storage area (reel storage area 53A) for the reel RL is required, and the configuration is simplified, which reduces manufacturing costs and enables the replenishing work of the carrier tape CT to be carried out easily and in a short time. In addition, the size of the carrier tape CT in the payout direction (front-to-back direction) can be reduced, thereby making the size of the reel holding device 1C (and therefore the component mounting system 1) more compact.
[0047] While the embodiments of the present invention have been described above, the present invention is not limited to the above and various modifications are possible. For example, in the above-described embodiments, the storage unit holder that holds the storage unit 32 was a cart 31 that was provided with multiple wheels 46 and could travel on the floor surface FL, but the storage unit holder need not be a cart as long as it can hold the storage unit 32. Furthermore, in the above-described embodiments, the partitioning means 54 was a partition member, but the partitioning means 54 does not have to be a partition member and may, for example, be configured by arranging multiple spacers in the vertical direction.
[0048] Furthermore, the configuration of the storage section (storage section 32) is one example, and it is sufficient if it has a reel storage area 53A that rotatably holds the reel RL and a tape storage area 53B that is located in front of the reel storage area 53A and can store the carrier tape CT from which the reel RL has been removed. Furthermore, in the above example, the storage section including the reel storage area and the tape storage area is configured as a single member, the storage section 32, but the reel storage area and the tape storage area may each be configured as different members. In this case, the storage section refers to the combination of the member that configures the reel storage area and the member that configures the tape storage area.
