Fine moisture removal device

[0001] Cross-reference to related applications

[0002] This application claims the benefit of priority to Republic of Korea Patent Application No. 10-2023-0129140, filed September 26, 2023, and Republic of Korea Patent Application No. 10-2024-0127487, filed September 20, 2024, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference in their entirety.

[0003] The present invention relates to a fine moisture removal device.

[0004] Moisture contamination in petroleum and mineral oil products occurs for a variety of reasons, and the resulting problems pose a significant industrial challenge. A prime example is the mixing of brine with crude oil during extraction. Brine is formed when the crude oil is extracted along with the brine, a phenomenon where water, with its higher density, exists in the underlying geological formations where the crude oil is stored. While moisture is initially removed during the crude oil refining process, impurities in the form of fine water droplets or ions cannot be completely removed.

[0005] The refining process uses gravity differences to separate the water and high-temperature heating to evaporate the water. However, impurities such as sodium (Na+) and chlorine (Cl-) ions still remain during this process, requiring an additional washing process to remove them. This washing process involves adding purified water (DI water) and vigorous stirring to transfer the impurities into the purified water. However, even this process is difficult to completely remove moisture, so an electrostatic method using a high-voltage DC electric field is additionally applied to remove fine moisture.

[0006] Despite these complex purification processes, complete moisture removal is difficult. The aviation and aerospace industries, in particular, require strict moisture management, and even minute amounts of moisture can cause combustion imbalances or clog pumps and filters, posing problems.

[0007] Accordingly, moisture removal has become a key factor in determining oil quality, and this necessitates an energy-efficient removal / purification process.

[0008] The present invention provides a technology for efficiently removing fine moisture with low energy consumption and a simple structure instead of a high-cost, complex moisture removal process.

[0009] A fine moisture removal device according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises a separation housing having a separation space formed therein, a separation space connected to the separation space and having an inlet through which oil containing moisture can be introduced, an oil discharge port through which the oil can be discharged, and a moisture discharge port through which the moisture can be discharged, and a separation filter unit disposed in the separation space and separated from the bottom of the separation space, through which the oil passes but the moisture does not pass.

[0010] The above inlet and the above oil discharge port may be formed on the upper side of the separation housing, and the above moisture discharge port may be formed on the lower side of the separation housing.

[0011] The above fine moisture removal device is disposed in the separation space, and may further include a partition plate that divides the separation space into a filter space in which the separation filter unit is disposed and a discharge space connected to the moisture discharge port.

[0012] A connecting hole that connects the filter space and the discharge space and allows moisture to flow in can be formed in the partition plate portion between the above separation filter portion and the inlet.

[0013] The above separation filter unit can be inclined at 25° to 85° with respect to the upper surface of the partition plate.

[0014] The above separation filter part is arranged in the direction from the inlet to the oil discharge port, and the mesh of the arranged separation filter part can become denser as it gets closer to the oil discharge port.

[0015] The mesh of the above separation filter unit may be 100 to 3000.

[0016] The above separation filter unit may be a superhydrophobic filter.

[0017] The above-mentioned fine moisture removal device may further include a storage unit connected to the inlet and capable of storing oil containing moisture.

[0018] The storage unit may include a storage housing having a storage space formed therein, an inlet pipe formed in the storage housing and supplying oil containing moisture to the storage space, a water level control valve positioned in the storage space and installed in the inlet pipe and controlling the water level of the storage space, and a supply pipe formed in the storage housing and connecting the storage space and the separation space and supplying the oil containing moisture to the separation space.

[0019] The lower end of the inlet pipe and the center of the supply pipe are located on the same line, and the center height of the inlet port based on the lower surface of the separation housing may be lower than the center height of the supply pipe.

[0020] The above-mentioned fine moisture removal device may further include a pretreatment unit connected to the inlet pipe and capable of heating oil containing moisture.

[0021] The above fine moisture removal device may be installed in the separation housing and may further include an incline adjustment unit capable of setting the incline of the separation filter unit.

[0022] The above separation filter parts are arranged in a multi-layered manner from the inlet to the oil discharge port, and the slope adjustment part can be installed in each of the arranged separation filter parts.

[0023] The above-mentioned incline adjustment unit may include a hinge axis protruding from the separation filter unit and rotatably connected to the separation housing, a lever connected to the hinge axis and installed rotatably to the separation housing, and a catch formed between the lever and the outer periphery of the separation housing and allowing the rotating lever to be caught in steps.

[0024] The above-mentioned fine moisture removal device may further include a shielding member that connects the perimeter of the separation filter part and the separation space and blocks the passage of moisture between the perimeter of the separation filter part and the separation space.

[0025] The above shielding member can be folded and unfolded according to the rotation of the above separation filter part.

[0026] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the separation filter unit is composed of a super hydrophobic material to maximize the difference in interfacial tension and contact angle between oil and water, which effectively blocks micro droplets in the separation filter unit, thereby separating micro moisture present in oil, thereby improving the efficiency of removing micro moisture.

[0027] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the separation filter section is arranged and the meshes are sequentially and densely arranged so that moisture particles of various sizes can be accommodated, thereby further increasing the moisture separation efficiency and removing even fine moisture without missing it, thereby resulting in an improved fine moisture removal efficiency.

[0028] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the separation filter section is arranged at an angle to promote coagulation of water droplets according to the flow of oil, and has the effect of preventing clogging of the filter by allowing water droplets to fall downward without sticking to the filter as the oil passes naturally.

[0029] According to an embodiment of the present invention, blocked water naturally gathers downward due to the difference in specific gravity and is automatically discharged, so even if the separation filter part is used for a long period of time, there is a low possibility of it being clogged or damaged by water, thereby reducing maintenance costs and extending the life of the filter.

[0030] According to an embodiment of the present invention, an optimal separation filter unit can be provided for various types of oil, such as light oil and heavy oil, by adjusting the mesh and slope of the separation filter unit. Accordingly, by adjusting the angle and structure of the separation filter unit according to the characteristics of the oil, high compatibility with various oils can be secured.

[0031] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the unrefined oil is supplied to the separation housing by its own weight, eliminating the need for a pump. This reduces installation and operating costs, and reduces energy consumption.

[0032] According to an embodiment of the present invention, preheating oil to 25°C to 70°C reduces viscosity and increases moisture removal efficiency, while minimizing the generation of unnecessary vapor. This results in energy savings and lowers processing costs while maintaining fuel oil quality.

[0033] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the quality of fuel oil (gasoline, diesel, etc.) can be improved by removing fine moisture, and the oil from which moisture has been removed has higher combustion efficiency, and corrosion and wear in engines and equipment are reduced, thereby improving product performance and reducing maintenance costs.

[0034] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the slope of the separation filter unit can be adjusted through the slope adjustment unit depending on the type of oil, thereby achieving the effect of exhibiting optimal moisture removal performance suitable for various oils.

[0035] According to an embodiment of the present invention, since the inclination of the separation filter unit can be easily adjusted through the inclination adjustment unit, the operator can adjust the inclination of the separation filter unit without a separate tool, and thus the inclination of the separation filter unit can be set in various ways according to the type of oil, thereby improving usability.

[0036] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the shielding member prevents moisture from passing between the separation filter unit and the filter space, thereby having the effect of maintaining moisture removal efficiency.

[0037] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the separation filter parts are arranged to form multiple layers, and since a slope adjustment part and a shielding member are installed in each separation filter part, the slopes of the multiple separation filter parts can be varied, thereby increasing the efficiency of separating moisture and oil.

[0038] Figure 1 is a schematic diagram showing a fine moisture removal device according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0039] Figure 2 is a schematic diagram showing a fine moisture removal device according to another embodiment of the present invention.

[0040] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings so that those skilled in the art can easily implement the present invention. However, the present invention may be implemented in various different forms and is not limited to the embodiments described herein. Like reference numerals designate similar parts throughout the specification.

[0041] Then, a micro-moisture removal device according to one embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIG. 1.

[0042] Referring to Fig. 1, a fine moisture removal device (1) according to the present embodiment includes a pretreatment unit (10), a storage unit (30), and a removal unit, and efficiently removes fine moisture with low energy consumption and a simple structure instead of a high-cost and complex moisture removal process. The removal unit includes a separation housing (41), a separation filter unit (43), and a partition plate (42).

[0043] The pretreatment unit (10) includes a pretreatment housing (11) and a filter member (12) and lowers the viscosity to facilitate the flow of oil.

[0044] A pretreatment space (111) is formed inside the pretreatment housing (11). A pretreatment inlet (112) is formed on one side of the pretreatment housing (11) through which oil containing moisture flows in, and a pretreatment outlet (113) is formed on the other side through which oil containing pretreated moisture is discharged.

[0045] Oil containing moisture can be introduced into the pretreatment space (111) through the inlet (112), and oil containing moisture exceeding the capacity of the pretreatment space (111) can be discharged through the pretreatment discharge port (113). Oil containing moisture can be introduced into the interior of the pretreatment housing (11) by its own weight or the pressure of the pump.

[0046] A heating means (20) such as a burner or heater is disposed in the pretreatment housing (11). Oil containing moisture in the pretreatment space (111) can be heated by the heating means (20). The heating temperature may be 20°C to 70°C. If oil containing moisture is heated to 20°C, the heating efficiency is reduced, and if it is heated above 70°C, the amount of oil vapor evaporated from the oil increases, which may cause a safety hazard, and the superhydrophobic performance may be reduced, which may lower the moisture removal efficiency. The heating temperature may vary depending on the type of oil. For example, it may be around 60°C for heavy oil, and less than 30°C for light oil. By heating, the oil can maintain a viscosity for refining.

[0047] A filtering member (12) is installed inside the pretreatment housing (11). The filtering member (12) has a mesh structure. The mesh of the filtering member (12) may be 300 to 2000.

[0048] The filter member (12) can remove solid foreign substances contained in oil. The filter member (12) can be made of metal.

[0049] Oil containing moisture heated in the pretreatment unit (10) has a lower viscosity and can be discharged through the pretreatment outlet (113) and flow into the storage unit (30).

[0050] However, the preprocessing unit (10) may be omitted.

[0051] The storage unit (30) includes a storage housing (31), an inlet pipe (32), a level control valve (34), and a supply pipe (33), and receives and stores oil containing moisture supplied from the pretreatment unit (10) and supplies it to the separation housing (41). At this time, the storage unit (30) can perform a primary separation of moisture and oil by utilizing the difference in specific gravity between the moisture and oil.

[0052] A storage space (311) is formed inside the storage housing (31). Oil containing moisture from the pretreatment unit (10) can be introduced and stored in the storage space (311). At this time, the oil introduced from the pretreatment unit (10) can be introduced by flowing under its own weight without using a pump.

[0053] The inlet pipe (32) is installed on the upper surface of the storage housing (31). The upper part of the inlet pipe (32) protrudes from the upper surface of the storage housing (31) and the lower part is in the storage space (311). The lower end (32a) of the inlet pipe (32) is separated from the floor of the storage space (311).

[0054] The inlet pipe (32) is connected to the pretreatment outlet (113) of the pretreatment unit (10). Thus, oil containing moisture with foreign substances removed and reduced viscosity can be stored by flowing into the storage space (311) through the inlet pipe (32).

[0055] A supply pipe (33) is formed on the upper side of the storage housing (31). The supply pipe (33) has a preset diameter. The center (33a) of the supply pipe (33) and the lower end (32a) of the inlet pipe (32) are positioned on the same line. Oil containing moisture in the storage space (311) can be discharged through the supply pipe (33) and flow to the removal unit.

[0056] The water level control valve (34) is connected to the inlet pipe (32) in the storage space (311). The water level control valve (34) has a float structure. The water level control valve (34) is located outside the inlet pipe (32) and has an outer circumferential diameter larger than the outer circumferential diameter of the inlet pipe (32), and includes a valve body (342) that can be in contact with or separated from the lower end (32a) of the inlet pipe (32), and a rod (341) that protrudes from the valve body (342) and is inserted into the inside of the inlet pipe (32) and guides the valve body (342) when it is in contact with or separated from the inlet pipe (32). The outer circumference of the rod (341) is spaced apart from the inner circumference of the inlet pipe (32). The rod (341) prevents the valve body (342) from leaving the inlet pipe (32) when it is separated from the inlet pipe (32).

[0057] This level control valve (34) can be located on the water surface of the storage space (311). When the water level rises, the valve body (342) can block the lower end (32a) of the inlet pipe (32). Oil containing moisture cannot flow from the pretreatment unit (10) into the storage space (311). When oil containing moisture is discharged through the supply pipe (33), the water level of the storage space (311) decreases, and the valve body (342) can fall from the lower end (32a) of the inlet pipe (32). When the lower end (32a) of the inlet pipe (32) is opened, oil containing moisture from the pretreatment unit (10) can flow into the storage space (311).

[0058] Since the center of the supply pipe (33) and the lower end (32a) of the inlet pipe (32) are positioned on the same line, the valve body (342) and the lower end (32a) of the inlet pipe (32) are always spaced apart by a constant interval, so that oil containing moisture can continuously flow into the storage space (311) at a constant flow rate.

[0059] Meanwhile, moisture (water) and oil (oil) have different properties and do not mix with each other. Therefore, moisture and oil form layers in the storage space (311), which causes the oil to separate and float on top of the moisture.

[0060] Accordingly, in the storage unit (30), moisture and oil are primarily separated due to the difference in density, and the oil can be discharged to the outside of the storage housing (31) through the supply pipe (33). At this time, micro-moisture (micro water or micro droplets) may not be completely separated and may be discharged while being included in the oil. In addition, a drainage hole (not shown) for draining moisture is formed on the lower side of the storage housing (31).

[0061] However, the storage unit (30) may be omitted.

[0062] A separation space (411) is formed inside the separation housing (41) where oil and moisture are separated. An inlet (412) is formed on one upper side of the separation housing (41) to be connected to a supply pipe (33) and through which oil containing moisture flows in. The circumferences of the supply pipe (33) and the inlet (412) have the same diameter. The center height (L1) of the inlet (412) based on the lower surface of the separation housing (41) is lower than the center height (L2) of the supply pipe (33). Accordingly, due to the height difference between the supply pipe (33) and the inlet (412), oil containing moisture discharged from the supply pipe (33) can flow to the inlet (412) and flow into the separation space (411) without the pressure of the pump.

[0063] An oil discharge port (413) is formed on the upper side of the other side of the separation housing (41) through which oil separated from moisture in the separation space is discharged. In addition, a moisture discharge port (414) is formed on the lower side of the other side of the separation housing (41) through which moisture separated from oil is discharged.

[0064] The partition plate (42) is arranged close to the bottom of the separation space (411) inside the separation housing (41). The partition plate (42) divides the separation space (411) into upper and lower parts. Accordingly, the separation space (411) is divided into a filter space (411a) where moisture and oil are separated and a discharge space (411b) into which moisture separated from oil can flow. A connecting hole (421) connecting the filter space (411a) and the discharge space (411b) is formed in the partition plate (42).

[0065] The filter space (411a) is connected to the inlet (412) and the oil discharge port (413), and the discharge space (411b) is connected to the moisture discharge port (414). Oil containing moisture flows into the filter space (411a) through the inlet (412), and the oil separated from moisture in the filter space (411a) is discharged to the outside of the separation housing (41) through the oil discharge port (413), and moisture flows into the discharge space (411b) through the connection hole (421) and can be discharged to the outside of the separation housing (41) through the moisture discharge port (414).

[0066] The separation filter unit (43) is arranged in the filter space (411a) and is located between the partition plate (42) and the inner upper surface of the separation housing (41). The separation filter unit (43) is arranged adjacent to the connection hole (421). The portion of the partition plate (42) where the connection hole (421) is formed is the portion between the separation filter unit (43) and the inlet (412). The separation filter unit (43) is arranged to be inclined at an angle of 25° to 85° based on the upper surface of the partition plate (42). Here, when the oil is light oil, the partition plate (42) may be inclined at an angle of 25° to 45°, and when the oil is heavy oil, the partition plate (42) may be inclined at an angle of 75° to 85°. The incline of the separation filter unit (43) may vary depending on the type of oil.

[0067] There is an effect that the moisture separated during the process of passing through the separation filter unit (43) due to the slope of the separation filter unit (43) gradually coagulates according to the flow rate and flows into the discharge space (411b) through the connection hole (421).

[0068] The separation filter unit (43) can be made of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), silicon nanoparticles, fluorocarbon polymers, silica nanoparticles, graphene-based materials, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), carbon nanotubes, etc. Accordingly, the separation filter unit has superhydrophobic properties.

[0069] The separation filter unit (43) has a mesh structure with fine holes, and the mesh may be 100 to 3000.

[0070] The separation filter parts (43) are arranged along the length direction of the partition plate (42) to form multiple layers. The number of separation filter parts (43) may vary depending on the design of the fine moisture removal device (1). When the separation filter parts (43) are arranged, the mesh of the separation filter part (43) close to the inlet (412) may be 100, and the mesh of the separation filter part (43) close to the oil discharge port (413) may be 3000. That is, the mesh of the arranged separation filter parts (43) becomes denser as it gets farther from the inlet (412).

[0071] The arrangement of the separation filter unit (43) can accommodate the particle sizes of various fine moistures, i.e., micro droplets, present in the oil. The separation filter unit (43) with different meshes is arranged in multiple layers, thereby improving the moisture separation efficiency.

[0072] Meanwhile, a joining groove (431) is formed on the inner upper surface and periphery of the partition plate (42) and the separation housing (41) to which the edge of the separation filter part (43) is joined. The separation filter part (43) can be separated and joined in a sliding manner to the joining groove (431).

[0073] Oil containing moisture that flows into the filter space (411a) through the inlet (412) comes into contact with the separation filter unit (43). At this time, due to the super hydrophobic properties of the separation filter unit (43), differences in interfacial tension and contact angle, the oil passes through, while moisture does not. Since the oil containing moisture flows by its own weight, no unnecessary pressure is applied to the filter space (411a).

[0074] Oil that has passed through the separation filter unit (43) can be discharged outside the separation housing (41) through the oil discharge port (413). In addition, moisture that has not passed through the separation filter unit (43) can form a layer with the oil in the filter space (411a) and flow into the discharge space (411b) through the connecting hole (421) as a guide of the inclined separation filter unit (43). Moisture in the discharge space (411b) can be discharged outside the separation housing (41) through the moisture discharge port (414).

[0075] The following describes the operation of the fine moisture removal device (1) described above.

[0076] The pretreatment unit (10) heats the oil containing moisture that has flowed into the pretreatment space (111) to a temperature ranging from 25°C to 70°C. At this time, for heavy oils generally used as fuel, the temperature is around 60°C, and for light oils, the temperature may be 20°C or higher. The heating temperature range can achieve sufficient viscosity reduction for moisture removal in light and heavy oils, and can minimize the generation of oil vapor.

[0077] The oil containing moisture that has been heated and pretreated in the pretreatment space (111) flows into the storage space (311) by its own weight without using the pressure of the pump. The oil containing moisture in the storage space (311) flows into the filter space (411a) through the inlet (412) and comes into contact with the separation filter unit (43) having super hydrophobic properties. Due to the difference in interfacial tension and contact angle of the separation filter unit (43), the oil passes through the separation filter unit (43) and moisture does not pass through. That is, the separation filter unit (43) has the function of blocking moisture through the super hydrophobic mesh, and the blocked moisture is collected downward due to the difference in specific gravity and then flows into the discharge space (411b) through the connecting hole (421) and is discharged to the outside of the separation housing (41) through the moisture discharge port (414).

[0078] Therefore, by forming the separation filter unit (43) in multiple layers, it is possible to prevent moisture (fine water droplets) from penetrating the separation filter unit (43) due to the flow of oil.

[0079] In addition, by arranging the separation filter section (43) at an angle, the fine moisture captured between the separation filter sections (43) is naturally discharged into the discharge space (411b) through the connecting hole (421) through the angle, thereby improving the efficiency of removing fine moisture.

[0080] Additionally, the removal efficiency of fine moisture is increased during the natural movement of incoming oil containing untreated moisture.

[0081] Additionally, as the oil containing moisture passes through the inclined separation filter section (43), moisture particles may gradually aggregate and be discharged depending on the moisture and flow rate removed.

[0082] Next, another embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIG. 2.

[0083] Referring to drawing 2, the fine moisture removal device (2) according to the present embodiment has most of the components of the embodiment described with reference to FIG. 1, and may further include a slope adjustment unit (50) and a shielding member (60).

[0084] The incline adjustment unit (50) includes a hinge shaft (51), a lever (52), and a catch (53), and is installed in the separation housing (41) to rotate the separation filter unit (43) to set the incline of the separation filter unit (43). The incline adjustment unit (50) and the shielding member (60) may be arranged in each of the separation filter units (43) forming multiple layers. Accordingly, the incline of the multi-layer separation filter units (43) can be varied by using the incline adjustment unit (50), thereby increasing the separation efficiency of moisture and oil. In the present embodiment, the joining groove (431) to which the separation filter units (43) are joined is omitted.

[0085] The hinge shaft (51) protrudes from both sides of the separation filter unit (43) and is coupled to the separation housing (41). A bearing or the like is installed between the hinge shaft (51) and the separation housing (41) to facilitate rotation of the hinge shaft (51). The space between the hinge shaft (51) and the bearing, and between the bearing and the separation housing (41), has an airtight structure.

[0086] A lever (52) is rotatably arranged on one outer surface of the separation housing (41) and is coupled to a hinge shaft (51) on one side. The lever (52) can be held by a worker. When the lever (52) is rotated, the separation filter unit (43) can rotate in the filter space (411a) via the hinge shaft (51).

[0087] The engaging portion (53) is formed on the inner surface of the lever (52) and the outer surface of the separation housing (41). The engaging portion (53) includes an engaging groove (531) formed on the separation housing (41) and an engaging projection (532) formed on the lever (52). The engaging grooves (531) are arranged along the circumferential direction based on the hinge axis (51). The engaging projection (532) protrudes from the lever (52) and is inserted into the engaging groove (531). The engaging groove (531) is formed in a semicircular shape, and the engaging projection (532) is formed in a hemispherical shape corresponding to the engaging groove (531). When the lever (52) is rotated, the engaging projection (532) can be gradually engaged with the engaging groove (531). As a result, the separation filter unit (43) can be maintained in an inclined state when the catch (532) catches the catch groove (531).

[0088] The shielding member (60) can block moisture and oil from flowing between the edge of the separation filter unit (43) and the periphery of the filter space (411a). One end of the shielding member (60) is connected to the periphery of the filter space (411a), and the other end is connected to the edge of the separation filter unit (43). The shielding member (60) has a folding structure and can be folded and unfolded according to the rotation of the separation filter unit (43). The shielding member (60) can be made of the same material as the separation filter unit (43).

[0089] Accordingly, according to this embodiment, since the inclination of the separation filter unit (43) can be easily adjusted through the lever (52), the worker can adjust the inclination of the separation filter unit (43) without a separate tool, and thus the inclination of the separation filter unit (43) can be set in various ways according to the type of oil, thereby improving usability.

[0090] In addition, the shielding member (60) prevents moisture from passing between the separation filter unit (43) and the filter space (411a), thereby having the effect of maintaining moisture removal efficiency.

[0091] It has most of the components of the embodiment described with reference to Fig. 1.
